I really don't know how I stuck it out for all 10 books. There is a fair plot and is strongest when in science fiction mode. Then it veers into some shady areas. All the myths of our culture are fair game: pyramids, Area 51, Atlantis, life on Mars, etc. When they ended up in Loch Ness at one point the surprise was that Nessy didn't make an appearance.
The dialog is so lame, repetitive, annoying. The characters are more relatable when there's no talking. One guy, an intelligent man with a college degree, speaks like Festus. I guess because that's how the author imagines rural people all speak. "I reckon" and "ain't " and double negatives along with the constant misuse of "them" as in "them aliens" instead of the aliens or those aliens. He didn't say "them thar" but almost. Seriously, I kept seeing Yosemite Sam when this character had dialog. Ugh! One of the aliens calls everyone "Darling" -- really?
And the same phrases keep repeating (reached out with his/her mind, suddenly, etc.) Then every time there's a meeting he lists everyone, every time.
Anyway, I paid very little for the 10 book series and I was determined to get my money's worth. I feel like it could be reduced to 5 books with half the pages and cleanup the dialog (add some humor, or personality) and the plot would have made it a good series.
Just finished the secrets of Giza ultimate edition (10 books) what a fantastic read, I’m a avid reader and this series was one of the best the Kwan twins are the lead characters, but others play a major part in the story. One criticism, it had to end, but authorise Ken Warner has wet the appetite by saying more adventures to come. I can’t wait 👏👏
Just finished this 10 book series. Just like binge watching a show there is binge reading. Didn’t want these books to end but they came to a conclusion. Great read, follow twins Jaden and Malia as they travel the universe and defined eart. Big D
This is a difficult to review. I did review each of the individual books separately, but I want to wrap it all up here.
I really enjoyed the first novel, but the rest were a trudge to keep reading. Most of the novels ended in a cliffhanger -- so if you don't want to read all of them, move on to other works. I HATE cliffhangers. I want to be able to read books that have a conclusion. At least the final book ended properly despite there being a few possible future events.
There were interesting elements in each of the novels, but the characters weren't terribly well developed. And, after many iterations of "using their powers", "they faded to ", etc. I began to skim the novels (which I seldom do). Basically, the twins were constantly on the go and it grew very tiresome.
I think the author has real potential, but I'll never again buy any book from him that isn't standalone.
Started off alright but by half way it becomes ridiculous. Let's just dole out all powers to these kids. Every situation has them bending wills, controlling machines, computers or people to escape, gain access or achieve some task.
They are like video game characters who can carry 3 tons of equipment. They've got every power that could ever be conceived for any situation. Need a spaceship? Use mind control to call one over and fly it. Some group of bad guys has the path blocked? Knock them out with mind control and telekinesis their guns across the room.
I've dropped the series at about two-thirds the way through. It was only because I don’t like not finishing a book that I went that far. But I just couldn't read anymore of it. I must have missed the age recommendation of 12 years old.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is really multiple books, but is quite engaging with character development especially with the twins Jaden and Malia. We find out they have telekinesis and telepathy and end up running from secret government projects, investigating UFO abductions, fighting Martians, and ultimately saving earth from multiple sets of aliens that are bound and determined to wipe out humanity and take earth as their own. We see some interesting concepts of portals to jump across vast light years of space in an instant and some other things like getting transplants and nano bots injected to communicate directly with computers and others. Great set of books and although it does take time to finish it,the time flies by as you get absorbed into the storyline.
First of all, 10 stars for amazing creativity! That said, I'm not a YA reader, so I got bored with the endless skirmishes resulting in unmourned aliens' deaths. I read the whole 10 books but have to admit I skimmed a bit. Just when I thought I couldn't take one more shoot-em-up, a new species of alien appeared! By last count, we had 6, including humans. I did enjoy watching 14-year-old twins Malia and Jaden grow into their amazing powers, and take on adult pressures and activities way beyond their knowledge. And of course all the advanced tech was fascinating. By the end of the last book, my mind glazed over somewhat and I was surprised the 3 lost members of the team suddenly appeared, thanks to the Founders. Sort of shoved it in there at the end, methinks.
I have read all 10 of these great stories, by a clever author, Ken Warner. Just not in this omnibus, but separately. The stories start in Ancient Egypt and end up in space and sometimes on the moon. It starts when Malia and Jaden Kwan are escaping from their home, being chased by so called government authorities. As each story progress, they all tell a different adventure, but eventually are linked together. The author's imagination will leave you with the question, "Can this really happen""? After all fiction is a form of reality. Enjoy the stories.
This was enjoyable and I liked the characters for the most part. The storyline is certainly interesting and combines science fact and fiction in an original way.
There were times when it was apparent the author forgot certain details from earlier books although it was not enough to significantly change the outcome.
He’s a bit naive regarding world politics and the willingness of different
What an epic series of books covering a wide range of sci-fi genres from ancient history to interdimenseanl universe's and on the way throw in a bit of Men in Black,Indipendance day, some Shoalin monk's and a touch of Doc EE Smith's classic Lensman series and a few flying saucers and you have a right royal romp throughout the known and unknown galaxies
I found the tie in’s to the timelines made this series stick together. I’m looking forward to the spinoff series coming down the road. I hope this review finds you in agreement! Enjoy.
Wow. The author has a great imagination. The heroes are young, but had to grow up fast. They did so while maintaining some of their teenage snarkiness and rebellion. The books are fast paced; keeping you reading to see what happens next. I enjoyed them and recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series Probably meant for a far younger audience than myself as all 5he technical talk was way over this 70 y/o's understanding but the story was good with excellent characters
Great story with characters you will care about. Wonderful saga with earth as the base. Very detailed science on every page, makes it all the more real, great read Mr Warner.
As someone trying to get back into reading more, this series was amazing. It reads at a quick pace and doesn’t drag. The story evolves with time and as the characters do which lead you to try to guess what will come next.
Fantastic little read and although it gets more and more insane it doesn't do what a lot of these type of stories do and take it to over the top and over your head. Good stuff
I really enjoyed this series. The non-stop action and sci fi is one of my favorite genres. I would recommend this book to all Sci fi fans. You can't go wrong.
Great series. A little repetitive at times and it feels at one point like it is dragging on. However, it all comes together and makes for a great 10 book binge read.
I thought I knew.. but I was SHOCKED!! The twist was truly a twist. Quite frankly, I think the author was really detailed which made me feel as though the book moved a bit slower than I’m use to. Overall, it’s a good read👍
