The high rating deserves an explanation. This is a very specific book for very specific people. Do you want to go fast and think about things like weight transfer and optimal car rotation? If so, this book is excellent, well written, very understandable and has nice examples.

This book is an educational resource with the aim of improving racing technique and providing an overview of a lot of the key driving concepts. It covers things from steering wheel technique, seating position, how to take a corner as well as some of the common pitfalls and how to overcome them.

After my time with the book, although it does not reinvent the wheel as the concepts discussed are well established, the explanations provided within were clear and got me engaging my brain with my sim racing throughout my time with it. It got me thinking more about my inputs and outputs and although it is hard to quantify as to whether it actually made me quicker, it got me thinking more critically about my approaches during my time with it.

This books strength is that is written by a sim racer for sim racers and this helps with its accessibility. Prior to this all the motorsport instructional books I have read I have had to adapt for use on the simulator. It covers a lot of topics in a short space of time and it will get you thinking more about what you are doing and start questioning why you are doing it. Although the prose needs a little improvement for the authors first attempt at a book I think it is overall a very digestible and easy read.

Some weaknesses I felt was that there is an active decision to exclude the beginner and is even mentioned in the final chapter that certain explanations of key concepts have been omitted. This presents a barrier to learning. There is a little over reliance on telemetry to explain some concepts that could lose the uninitiated and how to interpret this is not really explained. There are some instances where concepts are mentioned and then explained in the following chapter upsetting the educational flow and finally I felt some of the diagrams could have been better if simplified rather than using screenshots from iRacing.

Overall I had a good time with this book and if you are an intermediate to advanced sim racer this might be of interest to you. It is easy to read and for the authors first attempt commendable. Although some things need tightening up there is definitely value here and even if you are familiar with the concepts discussed the reinforcement from a different view point ends up being very useful.

On my journey to improve my skills in Sim Racing, I came across this book. The concepts in this book take the intuitive feelings you might already experience and provide a deeper understanding behind them. Instead of improving your lap times simply by trial and error, this book helps you connect actions to their underlying principles, allowing you to drive with purpose and knowledge.
