"Kaiser's War" is the fifth book in the Steam & Aether series by Jaxon Reed. The series is another example of Reed's Steampunk meets inter-dimensional travel in a super augmented reality cyberspace environment. This super genre match up would be difficult to carry off for most authors, but Jaxon has succeeded in the five books of the series. I won't say anything about the the storyline since I feel story synopsis is for the author to provide, not the responsibility of the reviewer. The plot of the book is well written and executed. The characters have grown during the series and are now strong, independent, and extremely interesting throughout. The dialog was realistic and understandable, with limited use of dialects where needed. The only thing I don't like about this book is that Jaxon has said it is the last one in this series. I've enjoyed all five books. Believe it or not, I am hoping in a few years that Jaxon will have a renewed passion for the series and I can enjoy more of Sir Ripley's adventures.
Rip is back and war is at hand. But with Rip able to share some interesting ideas to help the war effort, mayhem and insanity are present Loved how some of my favorite side characters are present and shine during the battles. I laughed and groaned and was entertained the whole way. Loved the surprises Rip thought up and the battles were awesome and crazy. Just a great addition to the series.
I really enjoyed these books. I read them all back to back and couldn't put them down. I would love to see a movie or a tv series with these characters. Amazing characters, great story... loved it.
I'm sad it's over, but really happy about the ending.
The characters are wonderful. The plot is twisty and convoluted. The world building is superb. I hope the author will write more books in this universe in the future!
I have followed the story of Ripley Coulter since he was dragged through a portal into an adjacent reality. The story has never fallen below spectacular. This, the fifth book in the series, has kept up the standard. But, the end? I wasn't ready. I suppose, I will just have to go back to book 1. 😉
