In my day-to-day life, where miracles can feel relegated to the distant pages of biblical history, this book expanded my views on modern healing. Kevin Elliott bridges the gap between the miracles of the Old and New Testament and their relevance in contemporary life. He demonstrates that the gift of healing is not a relic of the past but is equally available to us today.

The book recounts many instances of healing—from the alleviation of pain to the restoration of sight and hearing—which makes for a captivating reading experience. Elliott strikes a good balance between personal anecdotes, stories from his mission trips to Macedonia and Kenya, and the incorporation of "learning keys" and reflective moments. His understanding of the reader's experience shines through, as he addresses questions that arise, such as the complexities of praying for someone who remains unhealed or feelings of self-doubt. The book weaves powerful and touching stories with humility and earnestness.

I recommend picking up a copy!

This is one of the more challenging books I have read recently. Kevin Elliott invites his readers not to enjoy (with or without astonishment) his tales of miraculous healings and deliverances. Instead, he says (chapter 16): “If you or I hear of, or read of, miracles happening today, it can help us to believe that we can see miracles for ourselves. That is the main purpose of this book.” The author thus encourages his readers to pray for and to expect the same kind of divine activity through their own lives, and to become open to using the spiritual gifts which enable this to happen.

Elliott does not, however, teach from a position of “expertise”, and there is no trace of arrogance or dogmatism as he reports how God has used him. He is honest about his experiences, and how sometimes he has been surprised to see his prayers answered. He insists listening to God is a vital aspect, but admits that hearing God’s voice can be difficult; he gives pointers from his own life while acknowledging other people may hear differently. He wisely counsels working alongside other Christians and praying together, both before and during times of ministry to people in need. He directs his readers back to the Bible, to show how healings took place through Jesus and the first Christians, and to argue that there is no evidence not to expect the same today. Each chapter ends with a summary of key lessons designed to build Scriptural understanding and to encourage faith.

The book’s first main section recounts Elliott’s own experiences in some detail. His initial encounter with miraculous healing was highly personal: as an asthmatic child, he was rendered unconscious by paint fumes in his bedroom and – he is convinced – rescued from death only by his mother’s prayers. Nevertheless, it was some years before he had a vibrant Christian faith, and even longer before he ventured into praying for other people. Intriguingly, he is candid: through prayer he has seen full healing for asthma sufferers, but his own healing from the condition has not been total.

Most of his supernatural experience has been during trips to North Macedonia, where he and other Christians from the UK have travelled by invitation from the tiny local church in one of Europe’s poorest and least evangelised countries. Yet that area includes places listed in the book of Acts, where the apostle Paul preached and almost certainly performed miracles in Christ’s name. Elliott and his teams have seen numerous healings and deliverances over the years in that region, besides similar things in East Africa and the UK. These tales are exciting but also daunting: the reader can easily wonder whether they would have had the same level of faith and seen the same results.

The book’s other major section tackles some underlying questions. Elliott deals honesty with why miracles are less common in some places than others: reasons explored include the need for faith; the impact of culture; God’s priorities for each individual; and spiritual conflict. He lists the resources available to Christians (including the Holy Spirit’s presence, the Bible, the impact of the cross, the power of worship and testimony – and the believer’s own financial resources to provide the answer to a need). He looks honestly at how to handle failures to see answers.

But his most striking lesson is simply that God is looking not for super-saints – Elliott is an “ordinary” believer who worked for many years in industry – as much as for Christians prepared to be available to him. This is the main challenge: will I, as a reader, let God do the unexpected through me?

Remarkable forward by a highly respected broadcaster. David Waters BBC songs of praise.
Enticing prelude giving hope that there can be really miraculous help for people.
Kevin starts his book with a kind challenge, asking readers to engage directly with God about how they can be involved in his work in the world. He gives hope that anyone can make a difference with Gods input.
Great to have key learning points at the end of each chapter.
Chap three The story of how Kevin got the gift is v good. Maybe explain a bit more about it? When you prayed did you know you’d got the gift or was it when you prayed for the soccer players knee?
Chap five pulls no punches about astonishing healings and the cost of some not being healed.
Chapter 6-7 more miracles
Chap8. Kev also points out times when prayer didn’t work or where people returned to their old ways. Honest prayer needs no reasons.
Chap 9 gives confirmed healing in Kenya.
Chap 12 spiritual toolbox. V helpful.
Good that chapter 16 explains why some people are not healed.

I was given an ARC, and have just finished reading it.

I really liked the book. I didn’t know what to expect, except that there would be stories - and there are plenty of those. Stories about Kevin’s life, and Pastor Jimmy’s, and many stories about things that happened in Macedonia. Hearing about what God has done is fascinating and amazing, but also he offers a challenge to step out and let Him lead YOU wherever He wants you to go. Enjoy the book, and be encouraged, then see what God has in store - maybe in Macedonia, maybe somewhere else.
