Just Beyond: Short Stories About Surrealistic Experiences

Rate this book
Just Beyond is an assembled assortment of anecdotes relating surrealistic experiences. The events depict real-life accounts or local legends; the characters are sketched from a montage of real people. The very title of this collection comes from a lecture I once attended by Nobel Laureate Physicist William Fowler, who averred, “Everything we consider supernatural, paranormal or divine is probably sitting just beyond the boundaries of science as we know it.”The idea of writing this book came to me not long after I penned the first of these tales, Seaside Story. A friend brought me a small rock at a seaside, and a story came out of my mouth when I took it in my hand. Just like that. I never did figure out how it happened, but it got me thinking about the myriads of rational people out there who occasionally have irrational experiences. The kind you often hear narrated at dinner gatherings when the wine is fine and the food is good and everyone has something to share.I would not ever claim that the events described happened precisely as described. But they did happen. Or were believed by flesh-and-blood folks like you and me as having happened. Especially on a moonless night when the lights went out, a chilly wind drifted through the darkness, and someone spoke of strange somethings in a low, deep voice. And then the door blew wide open, and one felt compelled to step out Just Beyond.
