Vincent Cooper's INFIDELIS is a powerful collection of poetry that delves into the life of a Chicano outcast, drawing from the author's personal experiences as a Marine. Through lyric and Blues poetry, Cooper paints a vivid picture of the 9/11 era, capturing the raw and authentic emotions that accompanied his journey. The poems take readers on a transformative exploration, starting with Cooper's decision to enlist and continuing through the intense trials of boot camp, the joys and challenges of fatherhood and marriage, and his subsequent struggles. INFIDELIS is a testament to the power of poetry to convey the complexities of one's lived experiences and to illuminate the shared humanity that lies within us all.
Cooper is the author of Zarzamora and Where the Reckless Ones Come to Die. He is a member of The Macondo Writer's Workshop. His poems can be found in Huizache and Riversedge. He currently resides in the westside of San Antonio, TX.
Raw, propulsive, no-BS poetry. Lush portrait of a man, men in a time, place, in situations from which there is no escape. Very refreshing. A pleasure to read.
A personal portrayal of a young Mexican American Marine. The book deals with themes of family, parenthood, relationships, self, culture and military life. The book does not sugar coat or comes off as propaganda. Set against the backdrop of San Antonio, Las Vegas, 90’s punk and grunge music, the of poems are honest and heartfelt.
A very good and unexpected poetry memoir that spanned decades of service to the Marine Corps across three generations. Eye-opening — sincere, and powerfully-written. Doesn't shy away from the more awkward parts of the author's service. Takes those parts at face value and presents them to the reader for their own consideration. From Vietnam to GWOT to today, the book's scope is ambitious, and there's plenty of space for readers to draw their own conclusions about what happened and why.
