When Quinn escaped the Federation, she took her kids into hiding. But a message from Tony brings her back to the stars. She owes him—and his family. And they’ve called in the favor.
Quinn agrees to risk her life to help Tony, as long as the family keeps her kids safe. She must follow the breadcrumbs to find him and hope she doesn’t leave behind a trail for the Feds.
Because the Federation doesn’t forget when a death row inmate escapes. And they never forgive.
Author of the Colonial Exploration Corps, Space Janitor, Recycled World, and Krimson Empire series.
I grew up in the US Pacific Northwest, and after twenty years roaming the country with the US Air Force, I'm back. I have a spouse, three kids, and a dog named Pippin.
I've been an IT guy, a choir director, an executive assistant, a stay-at-home mom, a college instructor, and that lady at the information booth in a tourist town. But writer is the best job ever, because I get to make stuff up. Stuff I wish were true; stuff I'm glad isn't true.
When I'm not writing, I like to knit, read, bake, and ski. I also love to travel.
After a very short pause I picked up Krimson Spark to see what happened with Quinn. Have to say predictable and not. To help out a little the predictable part was Quinn getting the call from Lou to come help the family, especially since Tony needs help. You knew, I knew it, it had to happen. What was interesting is Francine joins in. I say this since she's from the Federations criminal family and trying to break from them (is joining a smuggling family who's almost as famous a good thing?). After that the story settles in and have to say, I love the "tip-of-the-hat" Ms. Huni does to Firefly and Nathan Fillion (a favorite of mine. Yes, I do love Space Cowboys). What's interesting is Ms. Huni has accelerated her story from where I expected it to be and as the story unfolds takes a detour from where we're told in the beginning of it. Ms. Huni surprised me by picking up from the end of Krimson Run and almost immediately returning to all the previous characters but with a slightly different plot. What's arguably the most interesting part of it is that while she's not a major focus, Francine plays a major role in the story and helps bring things together for the ending. If there's a bad aspect of it it's that Ms. Huni is well versed in Sci-Fi and has made the Federation similar to Star Wars Empire in the sense that the Federation has a criminal aspect (the Russosken, btw, a fun nod to Russia and their criminal elements. I tip my hat to you Ms Huni for being knowledgeable there and also playing with the Putin name in Space Janitor) that's very similar to Star Wars and how the Empire lets the criminal elements do things. While I call this bad it's really not since I'd rather see a "realistic" look at what a futuristic society might be like (aka, similar to us) rather and an idealized Federation ala Star Trek. I'll simply say this is a good sequel that was fast. Ms. Huni is putting out some very good Space Opera that's starting to challenge some of my favorite writers. Nicely done Ms. Huni!
Another amazing space adventure from Julia Huni and Craig Martelle! After the epic rescue in book one, Quinn and Tony are back. But this time Quinn is the one doing the rescuing. And thus kicks off a story full of high-stakes action, tempered with Huni's trademark humor.
I love the cast of supporting characters in these books. The adventures of teenagers Dareen and End are always enjoyable. Even more so is the relationship between their divorced-but-still-together parents, Liz and Maerk. The way they constantly bicker but obviously have a deep-seated affection and respect for each other is so engaging. And I can't get enough of Francine, the mysterious tutor/secret mafia princess/beauty queen/possible-but-probably-not-traitor.
With twists of suspense, action, and a few good belly laughs, the tension ratchets all the way to an explosive conclusion. I can't wait to start the next book!
This story is taking a turn from rescue to revolution. The characters are well defined and their interactions continue to make the story. Lots of fast paced action and plenty of humor keep you turning pages.
Like the previous book, the story is complete, but sets things up for the next installment. A very enjoyable read.
I enjoyed reading this book. At the moment, when we all welcome distractions, I was a little sad it wasn't as funny as the previous book, which was great. However, it was still a good story which kept my interest throughout. I will definitely want to keep following this series, as it has great ideas and I am interested to see where it will lead.
A great second book in this exciting new series! I did really enjoy this! Something a bit different, good plot, great characters & ideas! I do recommend this!
Julia Huni and Craig Martelle's amazing Krimson Empire series really lifts off into the stratosphere in Book 2, Krimson Spark. Quinn and Tony are from opposing regimes, the Federation and the Krimson Empire, although circumstances have changed their presumed enmity into tolerance, understanding - even a burgeoning respect and affection, (though Quinn's a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to personal relationships).
Other familiar, or new and varied, characters are also present, or soon join in the action: Francine, who may or may not be what she purports, Maersk and Liz (friendlier as exes than they ever were while wed and their kids, End and Ellianne, 'Auntie B', (who's definitely far more than just a little old lady baking bread in a distant rural settlement) and others, amongst them. Also involved are the Russosken 'mafia royalty', new weapons and spacecraft, a deadly threat to mostly untrained and weaponless locals, blackmail and deadly danger, secrets and lies, plus the determination to succeed in overcoming a tyrannical dictatorship, masquerading as the benevolent governorship of the galaxy.
Will Quinn be convinced that the Federation must be exposed and deposed? Can she and Tony survive and thrive away from Lou's Marconi Family regime? What happens when the Swan of the Night is commandeered?
With final scenes that could be taken from a remake of The Day of The Triffids or The Empire Strikes Back, you'll be able to forget all about the Covid-19 pandemic, as you're whisked off to a world far, far away, in Krimson Spark: A Galactic Race for Justice by Craig Martelle and Julia Huni.
Fly off to get your copy as soon as possible, because this amazing new series will be expanding your galactic consciousness with Book 3 before you know it!
When governments are more crooked than the mafia, the people will finally ride up in revolt. This is their story.
The cover-up the government and military have promulgated over what actually happened on the military base on the asteroid is tearing thin on the edges. More people are looking for the truth, but the government is killing them as they are discovered, and the government has hired the Russoskin to help them slim more money out of their citizens, while disenfranchising the group's they do not like, cutting federal money further to rim planets. The populace is getting both downtrodden and angry and The Commonwealth is helping the citizens of it's parchment to resist and break away from the corrupt Federation.
Quinn owes the Marconi family for rescuing her and, when they asked for her help, to find Tony, and rescue him if needed, then she reluctantly agreed, taking her children with her on to the Peregrine, and started a journey that would take them all into deadly danger.
I loved this. It was full of great characters once more - both good and bad - and introduced enough rebels to start a war over.
I love the fact that, although Quinn is gutsy, she is also quite vulnerable and, when she learned from Francine that Tony was in love with her, put it aside to concentrate on what was more important right then - keeping her family safe!
This is yet another great series by Craig, and I'm really glad that he's such a prolific writer, as that means I have plenty more books to read!
Quinn is asked to assist Tony with a project and since she owes him a favour, she reluctantly agrees. All he initially wanted was an ‘in’ with a former friend of hers. What they get, is hip deep, in a developing rebellion. Meanwhile, Tony’ aunt Lou, is stuck with minding Quinn’s kids and almost finds her family, drafted into joining the mob. It’s a circus, a comedy of errors! It’s Julia Huni at her best.
I liked this installment better then the first one. The pace was relentless, the plot quite intricate, the main characters more engaging. Action non-stop, some great revelations and the protagonists are getting slightly tighter together. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Glad you started a new project loving the world so far and characters. Can’t wait to see how kids come into play more! —-question tho it’s driving me nuts “attitude drives” instead of “altitude” drives... every time I see it I autocorrect it did I miss something on why it’s not altitude...?
I love the caat, Sashelle, & would love her role expanded as Eliminator of Vermin! Francine & Quinn become friends, Tony falls in love again... This book was full of surprises. I know I will read it again.
Please continue this series. I am very much enjoying it.
I love this author. Her work is just fantastic. I never find old or trite themes repeating throughout her work as I sometimes find with other authors. Her characters are just realistic enough to be interesting without the curse of being so real that they are boring. Love her.
This is a great story and wonderful characters. What more can you ask for oh yeah fast writers so you can get their books faster but I’ve got to say there are a lot of wonderful authors out there so I might be expanding my circle of authors ENJOY
Quinn is a mother of 8 and 11 years old, who are trapped in a nasty circumstances and fighting back. Trouble is, her fight might take down the country she loves, as it has been too badly rotten.
I am really enjoying this series. Questions I had in the 1st book are answered in this one. Quinn and Tony continue to work towards a better life. Cannot wait to see what happens next.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series. I like that the characters were in multiple locations. I hope to see more of the kids and the caat in book three.
If you like action in your books this book is not for you. The only real action in the last part of the book unlike the first book that had action throughout the story.
A dam good read that really enjoyed and thoroughly recommend to anyone to give a go. I finished it before I had really got into it and was thinking what happens next? But then that's how a good book should have you at the end of it
I am really enjoying how this story is playing out. The whole political aspect is kind of “meh” for me, but the characters and writing style is still drawing me in.
Another excellent book from Julia Huni. Highly recommended, a great story among several different series of books. I will be reading book 3 immediately
Very fun reading. Both books 1&2. The characters are interesting. The relationships, relatives and friends. Lots of good military planning and action. Funny little comments about earth entertainment. Typos though
The majority of the book is a set up for further books in the series. There is foundation building for future missions, bringing more into the team and hard decisions made. I still enjoy the series but think the next book will have a bit more action and information.
An excellent second book in this well written exciting adventure sci fi series! Great continuation to the story! Good ideas & plot! I really enjoyed this & do recommend!
