She’s the most dangerous being alive…and the only one I crave.
I feel her across realms. Through the vast emptiness of space, weaving among the stars. She is the Queen of Violets. Powerful, shrewd, defiant. Utterly exquisite. Feared among her own and pursued by all.
She is the Dragon Queen.
I was an ordinary MI5 agent before being thrust into the world of Dragons Kings, Fae, Reapers, and magic. But it was a world I soon discovered I was bound to by blood from my Druid ancestors.
The instant we met, I was hers. Forever. I would have ripped the moon from the sky for her. I would have razed worlds. Then she deceived me.
Yet, I can’t stop thinking about her. Craving her. She’s in my very psyche, like a fever that burns through my veins like dragon fire. Scorching and eternal.
When I sense a malicious danger closing in around her, I defy every rule to get to her.
My love.
My queen.

Intriguing World-Building: Grant’s vivid description of the realms of Dragons, Fae, Reapers, and Druids creates a rich, immersive world. The intricate lore and magic make for an enchanting backdrop to the romance. 3. Strong Protagonists: Henry and Melisse are both compelling characters. Henry’s transformation from MI5 agent to a protector bound by ancient magic is intriguing, and Melisse’s strength and complexity as the Dragon Queen make her a captivating heroine. 4. Action-Packed Plot: The novel is filled with suspense and action, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The blend of romantic tension and thrilling danger makes for a fast-paced and engaging read.
The unique and magical connection between Henry and Melisse, which transcends realms and space, adds a mystical and almost poetic dimension to their love story. This supernatural bond sets "Dragon Born" apart from typical romance novels.
"Dragon Born" is a fun, fiery, and enchanting read that combines the best elements of fantasy and romance. Donna Grant’s ability to craft a world filled with magic, danger, and undeniable passion makes this novel a standout in the paranormal romance genre.
While the story is packed with intense moments and steamy romance, it also explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and redemption. Henry’s journey to protect the woman he loves, despite the odds and past betrayals, is both thrilling and heartwarming.
For those who enjoy a mix of magic, dragons, and passionate romance, "Dragon Born" offers an exhilarating escape into a world where love truly knows no bounds. So, prepare to be swept away by the Dragon Queen and her devoted protector in this captivating tale of love and magic.
Thank you to The Publisher DL Grant, LLC. ,The Author Donna Grant & NetGalley for an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review.
A really cool idea with the brambles. Lots of angst. Lots of love. Much magic and mayhem. Awesome battles. Kick ass heroines and heroes and happy ever afters. What more could a reader want? More. More dragons! More of everything. Keep them coming DG!
I think my favorite books by Donna Grant are her dragon books. There’s just something about her dragon shifters that sucks me right in.
Returning to the Dragon Kings world feels great. There;s a lot of great worldbuilding in this book that deepens the mythology greatly. I loved reading about the new characters, but there’s also something to be said about the familiar, past characters too. I just love it when authors bring in past characters into the mix. It just enlivens the storyline and makes it rewarding to read the series in order. I hope more Dragon Kings books come out faster.
The Dragon Queen & the former MI5 agent Since we first met Henry and he first learned Banan was not human, us fans of Donna Grant have waited a long time for him to get his own story. Little did we know it would be with one of the most dangerous beings in the world, the secret weapon, the Dragon Queen Melisse. Melisse has long yearned to find where she belongs & she is trying to show the resident dragons on Zora that she can be trusted. When a young pink dragon goes missing inside a forest of mysterious brambles, Melisse vows to find & return the youngling to his clan. Meanwhile on Earth, Henry, our former MI5 agent and, as the JusticeBringer, half of a legendary Druid sibling team, knows without a doubt that he must get to Zora. Once on Zora, though, he needs to convince Con to let him go into the brambles, knowing none of the Dragon Kings will be able to go into help him if he needs it. Injured and unable to use her magic, Melisse knows she is not alone in the brambles. But she is imagining Henry is there, wishing he really was because she hates that she hurt him before. When she realizes he really is there, she hopes he came for her, but knows he will do anything to help the Dragon Kings including coming to Zora when he was told he had to stay on Earth. Together, they must find a way out of the brambles & away from the mysterious being who resides in them. Along the way, they both have to get over their own doubts to be able to really find their way to each other. Donna Grant is really good at giving her readers what they want, as well as what they didn’t know they needed. This story has been one I have waited a long time for and it did not disappoint! I really loved getting to learn more about Melisse’s parents and her history. But the journey can never be easy, and Henry & Melisse, as well as the other Dragon Kings and their allies on Zora, have learned there may be yet more hidden issues on Zora. We just have to wait for the next installment in the Dragon King’s story to find out where Donna Grant will take us, and our beloved characters, next.
Another suspense-filled, action-packed novel by Donna Grant in her Dragon Kings series. War looms ever present between the Dragons and the humans on Zora and the dragon kings are doing their utmost to prevent it. Meanwhile, Villette is doing her best to capture more dragons while egging the humans on in their hatred of dragons. A new nameless character is introduced on Zora, a Druid. Henry's determined to prevent or mitigate the evil that this Druid represents. Melisse joins up with Henry and the Dragon Kings in their battle against said Druid.
This is definitely not a standalone novella; the backstory from previous books in this series is essential to better understanding what is going on. As always, Donna Grant ends with an unexpected development and an Epilogue that hints at things to come, including Skye Druids, Merrill, Villette, and Katla. Looking forward to reading future novels in the world of the Dragon Kings.
Thank you to NetGalley, Donna Grant, and DL Grant, LLC for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Henry is former MI5 and now is the JusticeBringer, he polices the Druids. He has no magic unlike his sister, the TruthSeeker. He can feel when Druids are near. He can tell Druids are on Zora and something bad is gonna to happen. Melisse is one of the most dangerous dragon, she is considered a Dragon Queen. She was imprisoned for centuries and was released by Con not long ago. She is trying to figure out where she belongs. Melisse is on Zora and a Pink dragonling disappears in bramble. Dragons are told to stay out because once one goes in, it’s never seen again. Melisse goes in and her powers are gone. She can’t contact anyone else or fly out. She is cut by the thorns and she doesn’t heal and is very weak. Henry forces his way onto Zora and goes to the brambles to locate the Druid and Melisse. The Druid woman wants to kill all dragons and does everything in her power to make it happen. Henry is determined to get Melisse out of there and stop the Druid. Another hit by Donna Grant! Dragons. Sex. Enemies. Neither Melisse or Henry know where they belong but they know they belong together.
What can one say about a story that you have been waiting for years to read, one that blew your mind and kept you so caught up that you skipped dinner and left you too exhausted to go to work the next day? MAGICKAL. Henry and Melisse went through a heck of a lot to be sure, and I loved every moment of their adventure as they learned more about themselves and one another. Henry finally found a way to forgive and accept himself, his past, and Melisse for hurting him in the past. He was able to accept that he might not have the same level of magic that those around him do, but that doesn’t make him less of an important member of the Dragon King family and certainly doesn’t make him less deserving of the love of a sexy Dragon Queen. Melisse grew by leaps and bounds as well, coming to understand her limitations, that her magick can be a crutch and that sometimes we need to depend on others that are better equipped in a challenge in order to survives. She was able to show Henry that she pushed him away out of fear and not because she didn’t have feelings for him, and when she finally opened herself up to the possibility of love, her heart embraced the sweet and sexy Druid with a quick wit, strong mind, and ability to make her crazy. The passion that so often flares between these two, whether they are arguing or sharing a loving moment, has been an undercurrent of their relationship from the very beginning but it was nice to finally see them get to embrace it. I am dying to find out who gets their story next (though I have some suspicions) and what kind of danger and drama is coming their way as the danger on Zora heats up. If you are looking for a charged and fast-paced adventure in an alternate world, filled with magick, dragons, fae, and Druids, you will love Dragon Born by Donna Grant aka the “Mistress of Dragon Romance” (haha).
Melisse is the Dragon Queen of the Violets. She is the first offspring from a Dragon King and a Dark Fae. Melisse comes to Zora in hopes of finding a place where she belongs. When a pink disappears in a mysterious bramble, she vows to rescue it. The vines prove to be more sinister than Melisse expected. They did, however, bring Henry back into her life. Can Melisse patch things up between them? Or will their enemy keep them apart?
Former M15 agent Henry is the JusticeBringer – a special Druid tasked with policing their kind. He senses a powerful Druid on Zora who poses a threat to Melisse and Earth. Henry openly defies his Dragon King comrades by coming to the other realm to protect her and confront their foe. He discovers new aspects of his abilities within the bramble. Can Henry protect Melisse from the Druid?
For those new to the series, and curious about Melisse’s parents, their story is told in IGNITE THE MAGIC. It is basically a prequel to the DARK KINGS and DRAGON KINGS books. I like how Melisse tells the rest of her parents’ tale, years after the end of ITM. It explains her reluctance to get close to any of the Dragon Kings. What I adore the most about Melisse is how she always keeps Osric and her parents’ memory close. She never forgot the many sacrifices they made for her.
Henry has always been loyal and faithful to the Dragon Kings. He is the only human, aside from the mates, who the Kings allow to know their secrets and existence. I like how Henry never abused their trust, especially when he faced a foe who wanted the information. He remained steadfast and silent, only giving common knowledge. I am happy that Henry and Melisse finally got their happily-ever-after. Their budding romance spanned in the background of several books.
DRAGON BORN is the eighth book in Donna Grant’s fantasy-romance series, DRAGON KINGS. It is a spinoff from her paranormal series, DARK KINGS. I recommend new readers to start with the DK books before venturing into this one. Henry, and then Melisse, are first introduced. Their interactions and growing attraction take place in the background. It also explains what happened between the two.
Dragon Born is the Queen of the Violets, Melisse and Henry, the Justice Bringer’s story. While you can read this as a standalone book you’ll miss out on some key storylines that give their story such depth.
Melisse is the only female Dragon Queen (and she’s also half Dark Fae); she was imprisoned for centuries by the other Dragon Kings and has been looking for a place she belongs that gives her the freedom to be and grow.
Henry has been a long-time companion to the Dragon Kings first, as an MI-5 Agent who fought with them on Earth and also fancied himself in love w Rhi, only to find out that he was a very special druid known as the Justice Bringer.
After Melisse was released from her imprisonment, she and Henry met and were instantly drawn to each other. Melisse’s captivity made her yearn for the freedom to explore, and she rejected Henry and eventually left for Zora to try and find where she fit in the Dragon universe.
As Justice Bringer, Henry couldn’t ignore a feeling that Melisse and the Dragons faced a new enemy on Zora that was a Druid. Henry defied the Dragon Kings and went to Zora to help fight this new enemy(?) and to find and protect Melisse.
As Melisse and Henry face this new threat, they come out stronger and tackle the future together as mates. Can’t wait for the next book in the Dragon-verse!
Worth the wait. This book returns us to the story of Henry North, a former MI5 agent, Druid, and loyal supporter of the Dragon Kings. The female main character is the Dragon Queen Melisse, Queen of the Violets and half dragon half Fae, who is many thousands of years old. Henry has been in many of the Dark Universe books, starting with Kellan’s story. Melisse was introduced much later, but before becoming a Dragon Queen, she had been held by the King of Dragon Kings as a secret weapon who could destroy all dragons. Constantine, the current King of Dragon Kings finally released her. The meeting of Henry and Melisse sparked much speculation on their futures and this book finally gives us the story that dedicated fans have been waiting years for. Extremely well written, and with such interesting stories, Dragon Born returns us to the excitement that Donna Grant has built up over years. I won’t say that this completes the story for Henry and Melisse as Ms. Grant weaves intricate and interesting plots into her books. I cannot wait to read the next book in her Dark Universe. I was given and ARC by the author, and this is my honest opinion.
Oh my this was my most anticipated read. I've been waiting for Henry's and Melisse's story for a long time. So happy with it and the climax. I don't know how Donna does it again with all the twists and surprises in her stories. So happy they ended up as a couple. Melisse is a half-fae (Dark Fae) and half-dragon. Henry who was a MI5 Agent turned Druid and a Justice Bringer to the druids.
I don't want to spoil the story, all I'm gonna say is that Henry knew he was needed on Zora and he felt the danger resonating Zora to Earth and he needed to be there. Henry was a big part in fixing the problem on Zora and rescuing Melisse as she was in a dangerous spot.
We also meet another Druid who I really hope will help the dragons as they need more allies.
We get into a battle with Villette again and I was kinda hoping she will be dealt with soon as she is the major cause with the humans hating the dragons.
Thank Donna for this amazing book and I can't wait to read more, thank you for the Arc. I'll be getting the audiobook when it's available.
While Dragon Born is book eight in the Dragon Kings Series it has strong ties to the Dark Kings which makes this addition long into that series too. By Donna Grant, Henry and Melisse’s story is just as exciting, dangerous, thrilling and romantic as any of the previous stories. What’s more, it has an extremely new element with the original world building. The story also has a turning point with a new character that is as remarkable as now the sequel is eagerly awaited.
Henry and Melissa are strong, resourceful risktakers, never more so than in this book. They have an intense chemistry that unfightable and unbeatable. There is also strong support from characters of the previous books. Most of all this story has the Justice Bringer is manages to expose the truth, show the betrayal and win loyalty from others. What an amazing story.
Whoa!! So much happened in Dragon Born! So many twists and turns, action, adventure, magic, and some romance added in.
I've been waiting for Henry's story for so long. He's been a part of the Dragon Kings adventures for so long, and I'm so happy this was his book. It was perfect. He learned so much about himself and found his mate. Henry will always hold a special place in the Kings series.
It was so interesting to learn about Melisse's past and everything she endured to get to where she is. She's definitely a strong, badass Dragon Queeen worth celebrating. I'm so glad she found her way back to Henry, and they were able to navigate this story together.
I am always excited when there is a new book featuring the Dragon Kings. The story picks up on Zora and features Henry and Melisse. New dangers bring Henry to Zora where he is determined to protect Melisse and help the Kings fight an unknown Druid. Going in to save Melisse allows them to make amends and admit their true feelings to each other. Also, we get to check in with some of our favorite Kings and their mates. Can't wait for the next book.
Finally, the story we have all been waiting for, Henry and Melisse. These two have a history of misunderstanding each other. It caused them to put quite the distance between them. To the extent that they were on different realms. However, nothing will stop Henry when he feels Melisse is in danger. Time apart only made their feelings for one another stronger. This was an amazing read! Well worth the wait. All fans of Ms. Grant will love it.
I received this book by Tantor Media for review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. I like that this story was different than the others… based AROUND the Dragon Kings but not based ON the Dragon Kings. Henry being a trusted human who is close to the Kings changed the dynamic of the storytelling, and gave us a different perspective. The chemistry between the main characters was undeniable, and I am undoubtedly looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is the 8th book in a series that I haven’t read. There’s a handy guide at the beginning saying who all the characters are, or else you can be rebel like me and just skip over that part knowing that I would never remember who’s who. I suspect it would be easier to keep track of characters and make sense of the storyline if the other books had been read, but I enjoyed this by itself. There are two worlds, Earth and Zora, there are dragons and fae and people who are 1/2 dragon, 1/2 fae as well as humans. There was a lot going on, but I enjoyed it enough to add the rest of the series to my TBR. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another awesome book by Donna Grant. I have been waiting for Melisse and Henry story since her character was introduced and I was blown away by it. Can't wait for the next book from my favorite author.
Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding paranormal romance story. When Melisse is stuck and can't get away from the Druid who has been killing dragons, Henry tries to free Melisse and talk to the Druid. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting love story by the phenomenal author, Donna Grant.
Finally we get Henry's story. There are always some characters you root for and just want them to find their HEA. Henry is one of those. We've read about him in more than one prior book, as he watched Dragon King after King find their loving mate. Melisse comes to life as we discover more about her personality. She's perfect for him. Donna Grant's writing takes you into the story. Her descriptions of place, characters and actions are enlightening and realistic. Dragon Born was a fun, exciting story I found myself still reading at 4am some nights. Yes I do get the, one more chapter, bug. This one's a keeper. Worth the spend to have it on your bookshelf, safe in your library.
This was the first book I have read from this series. It took me awhile to understand everything, but once I did I enjoyed it. It is basically about different groups coming together to help defeat one bad fae. In the process, you have two individuals who have been fighting their feelings for each other for some time. After something happens, they no longer are willing to deny their feelings. Once that dam is broken, they have no way to ever go back to how things were before nor so they want to.
It is always a little strange to start reading a series from the eighth volume, but all in all, without paying too much attention to who is who, the story has not been a problem to follow. Henry and Melissa have a nice storyline that fits perfectly into the overall Arc of the series against Villette, so it is also likely that I will continue reading it.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
Henry has always been a pivotal character in the lives of the Dragon Kings. First as a friend, then as an ally. Always on the outside edge looking in. When he meets Melisse, well, all bets were off. His life would never be the same again.
Getting to know Melisse, learning her history, watching her and Henry together has been utterly captivating! You don’t want to put the book down as you are afraid something might happen between the pages while you aren’t looking.
Things are heating up on Zora and you don’t want to miss a single magical moment!
Finally, the story I have waited almost a decade for, and boy was the wait worth it. DRAGON BORN is book #8 in Donna Grant's Dragon Kings series, and once again it was another suspenseful, enlightening, and unputdownable read. Ms. Grant kept me on the edge of my seat with her perfectly paced words and her use of vivid imagery.
Henry North, former MI5 agent and now JusticeBringer for the Druids, has always intrigued me since his introduction in Bana's novel Dawn's Desire. Henry has been a constant in the Dragon Kings' world, while he has no magic, he does have the ability to sense Druids. This sense has led him to Zora, where he believes there is something bad happening, or about to. Melisse is Queen of the Violets; she is considered to be the most dangerous and powerful dragon ever. Melisse is not only a dragon, but she is also half Fae. Her life has been a tragic one, spending most of it held captive by the dragon kings until Con set her free. She's disillusioned though, she has no sense of belonging.
The brambles, a mysterious forest of vines, is a place dragons are not allowed to enter, because once they enter, they never return. When Melisse learns a young pink dragon has entered the brambles she decides to follow and retrieve him. She wasn't expecting to lose her powers or become injured and have no way of calling for help. Henry has defied Con and returned to Zora, his senses leading him to the brambles, he needs to find the mysterious Druid he feels, and also save Melisse in the process. Nothing is as Henry expects, there is plenty of tension within the brambles, Melisse is not herself, he receives a surprise, and the Druid has her own surprising and heartbreaking story.
Since their first meeting at Dreagan Henry and Melisse had an instant connection, he was smitten, she was interested but needed to learn who she was now she was no longer in captivity. Being trapped in the brambles, and while Henry is trying to heal Melisse, the connection between the two deepens. When the heat and spice finally occur, they smoulder, I always knew they would be hot together. After everything they have had to endure this is a couple who deserve to find some happiness.
Donna Grant's incredible imagination had me mesmerized, her vivid description of the brambles made me feel as though I was there. I loved that Con, Rhi, Eurwen, Brandt, and other Dragon Kings played a role in this story. Their acceptance of the Druid's story and their willingness to help her, once again showed the desire to ensure Zora remains a peaceful realm. A battle with the evil Villette was a given, resulting in some surprising consequences. The Epilogue gives a glimpse of Merrill, hopefully his book will be next. I am totally addicted to Ms. Grant's Cark Universe, and DRAGON BORN was another exceptional addition and I can't wait for more.
4.5stars--DRAGON BORN is the eighth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult, DRAGON KINGS paranormal, fantasy romance series -a spin off from the author’s Dark Kings, which in turn is a spin off from several other fantasy series by the same author. This is Druid/ JusticeBringer Henry, and Queen of the Violet Dragons Melisse’s story line. DRAGON BORN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book seven DRAGON KISS. I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise including the search for a missing King, and the history as to how the dragons came to live in Zora.
SOME BACKGROUND: For tens of thousands of years the Dragons have lived and ruled on Earth but a war between the dragons and humans forced the Dragon Kings to send the other dragons through a portal into an unknown world. Fast forward to present day, the portal has been revealed, and the Dragon Kings have been reunited in Zora, with their family and kin, but a new war is on the horizon between the Dragons, the Divine and the people of Stonemore.
Told from numerous omniscient third person perspective DRAGON BORN follows Melisse as she venture into the bramble thickets in search for a missing pink dragonling. No dragon has ever returned from within the brambles, and Henry is determined to find the woman that calls to his heart. Henry is a Druid, from a long line of JusticeBringers and Truthseekers, and in this Henry is determined to uncover the truth. Rescuing an injured Melisse finds Henry confronted by another powerful Druid, someone who is determined to destroy the dragons, one beast at a time.
The world building continues to focus on an enemy that has captured and taken prisoner a Dragon King. Much like the story line in many of the previous interconnected series, the Dragons face an enemy who is searching for revenge, the ultimate quest for power, and the take down of dragonkind.
The relationship between Melisse and Henry has been building for several story line but Melisse has refused all of Henry’s attempts at seduction, and in this, Henry is about to save the woman with whom he has fallen in love. There time together in the brambles reveals a haunting past for our story line heroine, a past filled with heart break and betrayal. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including several couples from the Dragon Kings and Dark Kings series including the return of Con and Rhi.
DRAGON BORN is a story of betrayal, vengeance and mistaken beliefs. A tale of power and control, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is intriguing and impassioned; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are determined and dynamic.
Melisse is finally free after being locked away for millennia. She’s struggling to forgive but wants to put the past behind her and enjoy her freedom. When she notices some mysterious vines creeping into Dragon territory and finds a Dragon family weeping over their missing child she decides to venture into the vines to try and rescue the child but is immediately trapped and loses her magic.
Henry feels something is wrong on Zora and knows he needs to get there even though Con told him to stay away. He goes anyway and discovers Melisse is missing and is determined to find her.
Within the vines is a new enemy bent on destroying all Dragons and Henry, with the little bit of Druid magic her has, might be the only one to stop them.
I wish we had spent more time getting to know Melisse before this book since we have known Henry since the very beginning and have spent a lot of time with him. Melisse was freed and then disappeared and it would have been nice if she showed up in each of the books set on Zora helping the Dragon Kings or just being around so we could get to know her and see her interact with the others.
She is the oldest of the Dragon Kings and is learning her powers after being locked away as a child and I hated that this book sees her trapped again needing rescue.
Henry’s biggest challenge is that he feels inadequate because he doesn’t have magic even though he has helped the Kings numerous times and many other mates don’t have magic. Henry is in love with Melisse but doesn’t feel like he’s worthy which was sad.
Melisse is therefore relegated to to role of damsel in distress so Henry can rescue her and discovers he has magic and faces a foe only he can fight. This was upsetting because Melisse never gets to showcase how powerful and how capable she is and Henry, the man, gets to be the Hero.
This is the only reason I can’t give 5 stars because I love them both separately and as a couple. The romance scenes were sweet and spicy. I loved that everyone already cares deeply about Melisse even though they just met her. Especially Con, who feels a great deal of guilt for keeping her locked up. Her backstory and memories are heartbreaking.
The villain was pretty annoying constantly flirting with Henry. Villette needs to die already and Merrill needs to get back home and stop brooding and pouting.
Dragon Born is an incredibly exquisite and wildly passionate tale of healing redemption and stubborn hope. Grant has truly outdone herself with this long anticipated story. Not only does she gives us a female dragon who has relentlessly suffered for over a millennia, but she has also pushes Henry into center stage where he will play a vital role in the survival of the Kings. No pressure here. Not even when the Kings themselves stand in the way of possibly seeing another sunrise when they try to keep Henry from Fate's plan.
Melisse began life surrounded and filled with love and laughter. Cherished by her parents, she thrived under their loving care. Fate dealt her a heart wrenching blow when an accident happened, and she was left all alone and hated by all who knew about her. She wanted nothing more love and happiness, but those with power feared her and looked for her death. Henry has long wrestled with his lack of magic while all those around him had some kind of wondrous magic that they could wield to protect those they loved. When that bitterness was highlighted by the one person that Henry had came to love and cherish, he knew he had nothing to offer and reluctantly walked away. How can either of these two lost souls find what they need most all the while keeping their heart safe?
Melisse had a lot of pain and despair to work through, and while she knew that hurting Henry had been cruel, she was glad he had turned his attention elsewhere. She wasn't who he needed. She wasn't good for anyone let alone someone with such a good heart who continuously helped the Kings out. Henry's heart stayed with Melisse even while he walked away. He had no doubt it was hers, and having it back would do him no good. Besides, he still had to deal with his anger of his lack of magic. Nothing would make that bitter pill easier to swallow.
Donna Grant is truly a writer of the highest order. She never fails to bring us new, incredible, and ever evolving twists and surprises to her already mind-numbing brilliance. She is one of a few authors who have thoroughly captured my heart and my devotion through her fearless courage and unending compassion. I will never fail to return to her extravagant and breathtaking worlds over-flowing with wondrous characters and enthralling storylines.
Henry was still everywhere for her. In every leaf that fluttered in the wind, in the very molecules that shimmered unseen around them. He was in the warmth of the sunlight and the ethereal glow of the moonbeams.
Melisse has power and immortality, but what she really wants is love. Though Henry possesses neither power nor immortality, his desire for her rages just as strong. But being together means waging war--within themselves, and with powerful enemies they might not be able to defeat.
This is the 8th book of a series, but the only one I have read. It can mostly be read as a standalone. There is a handy guide in the beginning with names and descriptions so you can follow what's happening, but it was still a little confusing for me to try to keep them straight.

what I liked: interesting and complex world-building.
What I didn't like: I did not like this book. We are dropped into the middle of a romance--a second chance romance where the conflict that makes it second chance is largely glossed over. This might not be the case for people who did read the previous books in the series (perhaps much of this took place on page in previous books), but if you're reading it standalone, it means we also miss most of them falling in love. I build no ships and do not care if they are together. The book begins with pining already happening. Dialogue reads stilted and unnatural, in my opinion, and at times it was difficult to follow who was speaking and I'd have to reread entire passages to make sense of them. I found myself bored through much of this book, and completed it mostly out of obligation.
Thank you to netgalley for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Finally, we got Henry’s story. I really enjoyed Henry and Melisse’s journey and this book was well worth the wait. Henry has been an important character and a friend to the Dragon Kings since the beginning of the series and he finally gets his due. Although, we learned in previous books that Henry and his sister are Druids, who play an important role in the series, this book is about Henry and Melisse’s journey to their HEA. The book starts out with Henry being drawn to Zora, by an unknown, powerful force. He knows that the force pulling him to Zora was something that was a threat to the Dragon Kings and to Melisse, but his warning fell on deaf ears. Especially, since he was warned by Con, not to come back to Zora. Realizing the threat was worth going against Con, his mind was made up, and he would deal with the repercussions. His only obstacle now was getting past the Dragon king guarding the entrance to Zora. Due to his determination, he finally reached Zora and was met by Rhi. Rhi, informed Henry about the missing pink dragon and Melisse’s attempt to save him, but she never returned, from the bramble. After much debate, it was agreed that he would go after Melisse, but the moment he entered the Bramble, he know he was no longer or Zora. He finally found an injured Melisse and realized why she was not able to reach out for help. While caring for Melisse, they met the Druid that created the curse on the vines, which was due to her hatred toward the dragons. We also learned about Melissa’s back story, her struggle with fitting in with the Dragon Kings and how she became known as a weapon that could destroy the Dragon Kings. There is a lot that happens in this book that will keep you reading from beginning to end. As always, DG pulls you into the story that always ends way too soon. If you are looking for an amazing PNR series to get lost in, I highly recommend this book, but I would suggest starting at the beginning if the series.
