When Wesley Toussaint arrives in Victorian England to uncover the secret behind the Buchanan family's impossible fortune, he expects deception, not desire. But the moment he meets Genevieve Buchanan-the haunting, beautiful heiress of Blackwood—his mission begins to unravel. Drawn into the manor's shadowed halls and forbidden midnight rituals, Wesley finds himself unable to leave the one woman he should fear the most, for at Blackwood Manor, love is as dangerous as the devil himself.

This book was an incredible read. The twists had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I truly didn’t expect it to get as dark as it did but I felt it was very well done. It’s easy to get lost in making stories just dark but she did an amazing job at building it into the story. Definitely recommend to my fellow dark gothic readers 💚

I don’t think I was prepared for just how dark and ultimately tragic this story would become.

At first, there’s this eerie Gothic atmosphere surrounding Blackwood Manor, Genevieve, and the strange sense of familiarity Wesley feels, but the deeper he gets into the mystery, the more unsettling everything becomes. I especially enjoyed the way the mythology and the romance became so intertwined that it became difficult to tell where love ended and obsession, fate, and manipulation began.

Genevieve was probably the character I found myself thinking about the most. I kept changing my mind about her, which I think is a testament to how much complexity there is beneath her character.

And that ending… I was not emotionally prepared for it. The final chapters took the story somewhere much darker than I expected. And now I’m very curious about Obsidian, because after that ending, I absolutely need to know Genevieve’s side of the story.

I picked this up at 2:30 this afternoon and simply couldn’t put it down. It is now 11:12 and I am SHOOK. The haunting undertone, the YEARNING, the twists, but most of all the gut-wrenching betrayal and heart-stopping revelations. Seriously, this is so incredibly satisfying and haunting, it’s exactly what I want from a gothic/horror/romance. I’m sitting here in agony because I finished this delectably devastating piece of art and I want so much more of it. Caroline, you’re a guaranteed read, thank you for this opportunity to walk through the world of Wesley and Genevieve 🤌🏽🤌🏽
