That day at the Armantrea market was the same as any other until a tall, beautiful stranger appeared and snapped his fingers. In an instant, my world disappeared, replaced by his strange land. I'm suddenly surrounded by foreign accents, mysterious, magic-wielding Astrales like Xander, and powers I never knew existed. Except, in Xander's eyes, I belong here. Fate's unfathomable hand guided mine to unknowingly create a replica of an ancient Astrale relic-one with the power to upend society as we know it. Months later, I am responsible for tracking down this lost replica through an unfamiliar world, with Xander as my guide. But the Astrales are playing with powers far beyond my comprehension and have political agendas I can't begin to understand. Despite his barbaric and controlling demeanor, I find myself drawn to Xander, and something shifts as I begin to rely on him for my safety. When threats from this new world circle in, truths from my past begin to surface, and I am forced to question everything I know. Xander does what he can to protect me, but I soon realize that even he can't stop the Void that threatens to swallow me whole...
Alice Stanco is a full-time writer who has spent most of her life between the pages of fantasy books. When not obsessing over fictional characters, she can usually be found celebrating Christmas at any given time or frolicking in proper ADHD fashion.
While a born-and-raised Minnesotan (American), Alice is also half English. This can be seen in her writing, as it explores the many cultural differences in a fictional sense.
Mental health representation is also a strong focus in Alice’s work, and it is a passion that will ring true indefinitely.
Dive headfirst into her enchanted fantasy world, explore the thrill of love and darkness intertwined, and you may find yourself not wanting to return…
I am so glad I stuck through the beginning of this book to read to the end. The story was intriguing but I've grown so accustomed to fast faced books that I almost stopped reading because of the extremely slow burn. But it was so worth the build-up.
And let me tell you the build-up kept rolling until the very last word. This book is unlike anything I have read and it was refreshing. I went into this book blind which almost cost me the pleasure of being taken on this amazing world with such different characters that even though their "human" characteristics are common the way the Author pieced them together within the world it was unlike anything I've experienced in a long time.
There are so many twists and turns that I'm not going to divulge to much about the actual storyline, other than nothing is as it seems. The beginning of the book is slow to progress but still interesting enough that I had to keep reading to get the questions I had answered. By forty percent of the way in I was in whole hearted and the story just kept building up. So much happens that if I hadn't had all the information from the start I don't feel this book would have been as well rounded and consuming as I found myself unable to put it down until I got to the unfortunate end.
Fair warning, this is not a standalone but the ending is not a gut wrenching cliffhanger and for that I thank the Author. It was concluded at a perfect part in the story even though I'm left anxiously awaiting the next book. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a unique world with an emotional story. A spunky MFC and a MMC that is arrogant but not overly, brutish but loveable, and his growth as well as her evolution into this new world throughout this book had me laughing, choked up, few tears, and angry for the trauma these two characters have endured throughout their lives. There is spice and at times fiery but it adds to the story and is not the basis of it.

Arc: (FIRST ONE) first off, I loved the different dialects since they were different parts of the world and it made sense to me. So if that’s a 🚩it should be a green one.
SECOND, I need the next book NOW. Obsessed. Hooked. Left off on a cliffhanger. THE PLOT TWISTS 🤯
I really like how Alice did the world building. You get it as you go and it’s not a huge info dumb at the beginning. Xander and Violet 🥵. I cannot get enough of them. They banter, argue, and the tension is high. Violet is so fiesty and rightfully so. She is guarded and has good reasons.
I will eat pancakes and read smut with Xander ANYDAY of the week. The way this book portrays mental health is incredible and the trauma and healing throughout was a really great development.
Favorite quote : “The world will try to make you believe that the depth of your emotions is a weakness. Do not listen to them, Violet. Your intensity will be your saving grace. Use it, always.”
Scene that lives rent free: pancakes, changing room…and the human world under the willow tree
“I forced myself not to think about it because I have learned throughout my life that intrusive thoughts only occupy as much space in your brain as you allow them to… F*** That.”
I’m coming out of my review slump (when was the last time I wrote and posted one, yikes) to shout about an anticipated release of mine - 𝓥𝓲𝓸𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓥𝓸𝓲𝓭. .
In this debut author from @alicestanco you are swept up into book one of the series. What do you do when you are in the town market selling your pottery and art, when a stranger approaches you and with a click of his fingers poof you’re transported to another realm….
Violet is sassy and holds her own despite dealing with past traumas. Xander is a good match for her as a mysterious, also sassy, love interest who steals all of our hearts when he makes her pancakes one morning in hopes to make her feel better. This is not a story of insta love or trust, they must work at it. The emotions and each of their pasts hit hard, which adds depth to their characters. They must work together to uncover a mystery of who she is and her family, find an artifact, and learn to trust each other. This isn’t just a romance though - I also really enjoyed the magic system and the world building as it felt unique to this story. The fantasy elements of the history of their world/society, side characters, and elemental magic really kept the plot moving. I will definitely need book two, soon, as the plot twists and ending left me wanting more!

VITV Review 💚🖤 Violence in the Void by Alice Stanco💚🖤
“….Death doesn’t make a visit and then leave empty-handed. If It realizes It can’t take you in your entirety yet, It still leaves with a fragment of your soul, forcing you to wake up every day and feel a certain undistinguishable lacking within yourself….. This is the story of my stolen fragment, and how I stole it the fuck back.” 🔥🔥🔥
I had been WAIIITTTIINNNGGG for this ARC so that I could meet my man Xander, fall in love with him, and add him to my collection of morally grey book boyfriend (and I did, I love him!) But instead I found myself falling in love with our FMC, Ms. Violet Lanscara, first. She’s “feisty and volatile”, as Xander would say, curses like a sailor, and isn’t afraid to ask for want she wants and say what’s on her mind. She’s also sarcastic as hell, and I love that about her.
I loved watching Xander and Violet learn to comfort each other, work to trust each other and learn that they are worthy of what they were building, despite their respective traumas, and begin to heal together. They were such a fun match; reading their banter and sass, and Violet giving Xander all the attitude back with her smart mouth and sharp tongue had me giggling and kicking my feet the whole time.
“He squinted at me. “Keep running that mouth of yours, Angel, and we’ll see where it gets you.” What was that little twist in my gut from his words? It couldn’t possibly be excitement.” 😏😏😏
This read was a rollercoaster and I enjoyed learning about Xander’s world and its magic system along with Violet; seeing it all through her eyes as Xander showed her his home.
There’s so much more I can say about the side characters I loved (give me more Gaar!!), the spice 😮💨🥵, how beautifully and carefully the mental health rep is written, and the PLOT TWISTS 🫠. But instead, just go and read it yourselves because I’ve gotten carried away at this point 😅
Violence in the Void releases November 14th and is available for pre-order now!

I really wanted to like this book. I saw it recommended on Pinterest and it peaked my interest but the world building was boring to me. Our main character Violet was annoying. The relationship between Violet and Xander felt purely physical. After getting 31% through I still felt completely in the dark on the world and what was happening. I also didn’t like how they introduced depression, it felt sudden I think the author should have started with Violets backstory instead of jumping around so much. Maybe I’m just being picky I feel like I’m somewhat in a book slump so maybe if I read this book at a different time I would enjoy it more.
Okay, book lovers, listen up! If you haven't heard about Violence in the Void by Alice Stanco yet, you're seriously missing out. This debut novel is a wild ride that'll tick all your darkish fantasy romance boxes and then some!
So, picture this: our girl gets whisked away from her boring everyday life into this crazy magical world full of hot Astrales (yeah, that's a thing) and mind-bending powers. She's gotta find some ancient relic that she accidentally recreated (oops!), and guess who's her grumpy tour guide? Enter Xander, the world's hottest alphahole who, get this, reads smut in his spare time. I mean, come on!
This book's got it all: a plot that'll keep you up all night, world-building that sucks you right in, and chemistry that's off the charts. Xander and Violet's banter is fire, and you'll be rooting for Violet as she navigates this insane new world. Trust me, that ending will have you begging for the next book!
If you're an audiobook fan, do yourself a favor and listen to this one. Heather MacLeod and Drew Mehrtens absolutely kill it with their duet narration. Drew's voice? fans self Let's just say you'll be looking up every book he's ever narrated.
For all you trope lovers out there (I see you), this book is a goldmine: * Forced proximity * Alphahole * Fated mates * Morally grey MMC * Feisty FMC * Enemies to lovers * "You're safe with me" * Elemental magic * He falls first * Romance + Fantasy then add a little darkness * Captor romance * Dual POV
For a debut novel, Violence in the Void is mind-blowingly good. It's got everything: sizzling romance, epic fantasy elements, plot twists that'll give you whiplash, and characters you'll be thinking about long after you finish the book.
Wow, Wow, Wow, I am left absolutely speechless by this incredibly fun and exciting read. Xander and Violet are officially my new favorite fantasy couple. This book had me hooked, and I mean HOOKED because once I started it, I could not stop. The banter, the tension, and the moments of comedy just made it so much better and don't even get me started on the plot. The storyline genuinely was so interesting and unique that I was captivated and could not wait to find out what would happen next. The side characters had me wanting to see more and more of them, and Gaar is, without a doubt, the best character. Often, authors who write fantasy get it so wrong with the dynamic between the Fmc and Mmc, but Miss Alice captures it so beautifully. Violet was so strong and independent but had a softness to her around Xander. Xander has my whole heart because from the minute he saw her, he had a sense of commitment to my girl. I can't wait to read more about these two, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book 😭 Also, for the first book, I have to admit that it is incredible, and I am definitely going to be reading every other book she releases.
* I received an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Alice Stanco for the opportunity to read this book.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! Even though the book is fairly long, it didn’t feel that way at all. For a debut novel, I found it super enjoyable and easy to read. ☺️
There are some heavy trigger warnings for this book, so proceed with caution! With that in mind, I loved the correlation of the Void to a depressive state. It was described incredibly well, and really set up the background for the main characters trauma. I found it made her super relatable, and easy to connect to her character on a personal level.
The spice in this book is also top tier! I was expecting it to be a lot more dark based off of the trigger warnings, but I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest!
While the overall world building and tropes are nothing new, it had enough unique elements to make it stand out. It does have the fated mates trope, and I wish that the mate realization didn’t happen as quickly as it did… it felt a little abrupt in my opinion. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the dual POV and getting to see the attraction on both sides, but I wanted so badly to dig into their pasts and traumas a little more to further their character development. Maybe in book two?!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC and boy let me tell you it was a wild ride. I’ve enjoyed reading this book, slightly urban fantasy, slightly hate/enemies to lovers, the banter, the dialogue, it is a very great start for Alice’s series and you can definitely see how much effort it took to put this all together.
“She scrunched her nose up in that way that made my stupid fucking chest swell. What is this girl doing to me?” Xander being a simp for his girl?? I MEANNN DO I NEED TO TELL YOU MORE??
Now because it’s a first book you need to have the whole world building it could feel at times that it’s too much info but, I definitely understand the reason behind it.
Now, those side characters…, i need nono I MUST READ MORE ABOUT GAAR JESUS THAT MAN 😮💨 And Roslyn i love her
DYING TO READ THE NEXT INSTALMENT
Arc in exchange for an honest review Thank you Alice Stanco for it 🫶🏻
Alice Stanco's 'Violence in the Void' is a riveting read that masterfully blends the golden fleece archetype with a healing journey from deep trauma. Told through a dual POV, the book weaves snarky humor, intriguing magic, and a richly dark fantasy world. Reading from start to finish is an absolute joy, leaving you eagerly awaiting the next installment. This novel is a perfect pick for fans of dark fantasy who relish a good mystery, fated mates, and unique dual dialects. Xander, a standout character, epitomizes the ideal 'book boyfriend' with his tall, dark, and handsome allure. Additionally, the book skillfully incorporates a favorite microtrope of mine: the thrilling 'RUN!' moment. 'Violence in the Void' is a must-read for those who love their fantasy with a touch of darkness and a lot of heart.
Why are we not talking more about this book? I haven’t been this obsessed with a story in a LONG time and I am struggling to write this review because I just want to scream at everybody to READ THIS NOW!
I mean you have snarky alphahole shadow daddy Xander that kidnaps(ish) snarky fierce Violet and all the angsty s3ggsual tension ensues which they obviously cover up with the most DELICIOUS banter! And when they finally give in …. Oooh get a glass of water because it was HOT HOT HOT 🥵
And if THAT wasn’t enough you have an insanely unique world with intriguing plot. I was shocked this was Alice Stanco’s debut because the way the plot and relationship development was so perfectly balanced - neither taking away from the other but both keeping me equally intrigued was pulled off ✨flawlessly✨
The audiobook narration only added to the amazing experience that was this book. Both Heather Macleod and Drew Mehrtens did a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life and keeping me enthralled!
I LOVE this type of fantasy. Top tier new adult dark urban fantasy. Strong female character, absolute beast of a male main character, mental health rep, magic, plot twists, a lil bit of suspense, mystical creatures, immaculate world building, witty banter, tension, slow burn, empowering character developments….shall I go on?!?! 😩 OBSESSED.
Alice you’re extremely talented and Im hella invested and I need book 2 RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
Wow! What a debut novel! Stanco hit it out of the park with this urban fantasy. If you enjoy dark fantasies with a quest plot and romance, this is one you need to check out. Be ready for a major cliffhanger...I will be eagerly awaiting book 2.
Stanco created an entire fantasy world while keeping the world building easy on the reader. The unique magic system was really cool and I love how it was slowly unpacked throughout the story.
Stanco excels at character development. While I loved the main characters, the side characters also brought so much to the story. Their interactions had me giggling and swooning. The author consistently demonstrated their personalities through dialogue and witty banter. Xander was so entertaining and I could totally see myself falling for his charm. The character's battles with trauma and mental health made them feel real and multidimensional.
The slow burn, "he falls first," romance had me smiling. I love when the sarcastic banter turns flirty; especially when it is with your captor that you planned to hate.
This book covers some dark themes and the author describes those at the beginning. I also appreciated the pronunciation guide.
Thank you to the author and Unalive Productions for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Please can we give a round of applause for Alice Stanco and her debut novel! A job well done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I loved reading this book. The twists and turns, the cliff hanger, the banter between Violet and Xander was just 🤌🏼 Looking for a morally grey… anyone? Look no further 😉
I loved the unique appearance of Violet, with the eyes, the birthmarks, the fact that she’s really tall. I love the fact that Xander reads smut 😏 The mental health representation and the trauma that these characters carry with them was written and ‘handled’ so well 👌🏼 The void and it’s link to depression was unexpected.
Do you like quests with a bit of forced proximity? I know I do. The magic system was nothing like I’ve read before. The world building was done in a way that was easy to understand. I love that there were different dialects depending on which part of the world the characters were from/ are in.
Lastly, it’s dual POV. Enjoy 😎
Thank you for the ARC. I had the best time reading it.
I’ve been trying to find the words for how much I enjoyed this book.
Tropes: Forced proximity, touch her and die and enemies to lovers.
This book includes so many of my favorite things: •Fantasy •Romance •Tall, dark and brooding males •Strong females •Amazing Banter •New world and magic systems
The author does a fantastic job with mental health representation. The characters are so well written, even the “side” characters. The 2 main characters are morally grey, but have such big hearts.
I enjoyed this book so much! Xander will burn the world down and so will Violet. Gaar, Shaed and Chelsea are hilarious and intriguing. I cannot wait to learn more about them all and to find out more about this world!
Content Warnings: Depression, anxiety, abuse and neglect
I was lucky to have received a copy of the ARC, digitally, in exchange for my honest review.
“His lips brushed against the shell of my ear as he spoke in a low, gravelly voice. “Remember what I told you about keeping my distance?” “Yes?” My voice came out barely above a whisper. “I’m thinking I can let up on that–just a bit.”😮💨
Thank you to Alice Stanco for giving me a chance to read this ARC!
This book was so good! The magic system was unique, the banter between characters was very entertaining, especially between Xander and Violet 😏. The story was also unique, I loved learning about the characters and the world they live in.
Violet is sarcastic, witty, and has been through a lot which helps you understand why she is how she is. Xander is sarcastic, devilishly funny, mysterious, and his back story will have you ready to fight for him. I can’t wait for book 2 especially with that cliffhanger ending! 🤯

Wow, Violence in the Void completely floored me! I don’t even know where to start because this book just does it all! Alice Stanco is an absolute mastermind—she’s created a story that had me hooked from the very first page and left me breathless by the end. It kicks off in the familiar Armantrea market, where Violet is just going about her day, but then everything flips upside down when Xander, this tall, enigmatic stranger, shows up. From the moment he enters the picture, you know you’re in for something special—and trust me, the story DELIVERS.
Let’s talk about the romance, because, seriously, WOW. Violet and Xander’s dynamic is absolutely magnetic. Alice Stanco has this incredible ability to write relationships that feel so real—layered, tense, and full of subtle moments that hit you right in the heart. Xander is controlling and secretive, and while Violet doesn’t always trust him, there’s a vulnerability between them that builds so naturally. The push and pull between their personalities feels so genuine—it’s frustrating and exhilarating all at once. Every interaction between them is charged with something, but it’s never overdone. Instead, it’s all these quiet, emotional beats that make their connection feel earned. I was absolutely glued to every scene they shared!
What makes the romance shine even more is how it’s tied into Violet’s personal growth. She’s not just along for the ride—she’s coming into her own, questioning everything she thought she knew, and learning to take control of her life. Her bond with Xander adds to that transformation, but it doesn’t define her. That balance is what makes their relationship so powerful—it feels authentic and grounded, even with all the chaos happening around them. Seriously, Stanco NAILED it.
And let me just say—the world-building is next level. Alice Stanco has crafted such a vivid and intricate setting that it feels completely alive. The politics, the magic-wielding Astrales, the history of the ancient relics—it’s all so richly detailed, and you can’t help but get completely sucked in. The stakes are HUGE—not just for Violet, but for the entire world—and the plot twists hit like a freight train. Nothing feels predictable or gimmicky, which kept me hooked until the very last page. Every choice, every moment, felt like it mattered, and I was fully invested the entire time.
Honestly, this isn’t just a book I enjoyed—it’s a book I lived. Alice Stanco is a genius, and her storytelling is sharp, emotional, and completely gripping from start to finish. If you’re looking for a story with brilliant writing, a rich world, and a romance that doesn’t just make you feel but makes you think, you HAVE to pick this up. Seriously, do yourself a favor and read this—you won’t regret it!!!

“The void is encroaching, threatening to take over…will his violence set me free, or push me further into its grasp.”
Violence in the void by @alicestanco is an amazing debute and start to an epic new Romantasy duology, one that already has me in a chokehold. How could I not be when it starts with a casual kidnapping.
“Those mid-day kidnappings always put you in the best mood, don't you think?"
And that’s just the start. Not only is there plenty of action and twists but the world building is stunning and feels so effortless throughout the storyline. It was utterly magical and I couldn’t help but feel transported into Violets world.
Violet, our FMC, is a sarcastic, no bull sh*t kinda girl with a fiesty mouth to back it up. It’s this attitude that’s helped her cope on a daily basis with all the heartbreaking trauma she’s been through. And who better to help her heal than Xander.
When it comes to shadow daddies most of bookstagram is currently obsessing over Xaden Riorson, but me, I’m here to introduce you to Xander. Xander is our classic sad, tortured and morally grey MMC who has a soft spot for one person and one person alone, Violet. Throw in some touch her and you die vibes *chefs kiss*

“The world will try to make you believe that the depth of your emotions is a weakness. Do not listen to them, Violet. Your intensity will be your saving grace. Use it, always.”
The plot! The magic! And of course the spice and tension, Violet and Xander legit had me giddy at times. Like the full on legs kicking, can’t sit still holding the book to my chest kind. Basically PERFECTION!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
“Keep tuning that mouth of yours, angel, and we’ll see where it gets you.”
I can’t thank @alicestanco enough for my eARC of Violence in the Void, you can bet with that cliffhanger I’m counting down the days until the sequel.
Thank you so much Unalive Promotions for sending me this ARC!
Violence in the Void is the first book in a Fantasy Romance series that I really enjoyed. It has many of my favorite tropes and once I was sucked into this world, I didn’t want this story to end!
When she gets kidnapped by a handsome stranger and thrown into a different world, all Violet wants is to return to her mundane life and best friend. But when it turns out she unknowingly made a magical chalice a few months ago, she is forced to retrieve said artifact with her kidnapper, Xander, which doesn’t prove easy when with each step they seem to learn something new that proves most of they knew was a lie and Violet finds herself drawn to and falling for the charming Xander despite the many secrets he seems to be keeping from her.
I must admit it took me a bit to get fully into this story but at some point something just clicked and I ended up really enjoying it. The world building and magic system were really interesting and I hope we will get to know more about them in the next books, the plot was fast paced with many plot twists and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved our main characters, Violet and Xander. They were really well written and have grown a lot though the book, I think the mental struggles Violet was dealing with were really well described and Xander was the kind of truly morally grey MMC with traumatic past that we all love in books. These two had a beautiful enemies to lovers romance with so many of my favorite tropes (like touch her and die, fated mates, only one bed, forced proximity and many more) and I loved reading about them, they were just so perfect for each other and I already can’t wait to read more about them in book 2.
Violence in the Void is a really great fantasy romance book with amazing characters, fast paced plot and beautiful romance that I loved and already can’t wait for the sequel because after THAT cliffhanger I need book 2 ASAP!
I got this book as an arc and I'm really happy I did. First of all, I loved the fact that author provides us with a pronunciation guide. Thanks to that, I had no difficulty in pronouncing words in my head. The world building was a bit confusing for me. I don't know but I felt as if it was lacking something but you won't pay much attention to it because XANDER. One word. Xander was a complex character like one second he was over bearing dictator and the other he was adorable possesive giant. He was a perfect mix of hot and cute. Like there were scenes I literally melted, he was That adorable (but only with Vi ;) ) and there were scenes I was faning myself because he and his dirty mouth😩. His past broke my heart ╥﹏╥ . I want to give him the biggest hug. Violet was well.. a brat(as author said). She annoyed me a few times here and there but it was bearable and I actually love her so freaking much. Of course she is hot. Her and xan's scenes were so tension filled I was burning up. It was a bit unnerving that she had a good control on her powers so fast even though they were shut for such a long time. I wished we could get more of her training sessions which would be help overcome the fast paced magic development. There were many side characters that I loved and many I hated with passion too. Overall starting and ending of book may feel rushed but you'll have no problem getting through it. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for book 2 anddd to see Vi in action. I NEED MORE XANDER AND VIOLET.
This e-ARC was provided to me for free, in exchange for my honest review!
4.75/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️ . Cinnamon roll cocky handsome MC + Grumpy smutty reader FC ❤️
First of all, the first appearance of the Void was very relatable to me, exactly how I felt with my depression, it was one of the chapters that touched me the most and was very well written. I loved to read this chapter and held my breath during this moment, ❤️
I loved reading Vi and Xan. I wish there was more of Xan's POV! I confess that I was hoping that I hope that in book 2 he will appear more!
Gaar was my favourite character, one of the characters I found most creative in the book. I hope he appears more in book 2(maybe get a POV, fingers crossed)!
I just didn't give it 5 stars because I think that the plots could have been more distributed, and the way Xan says he wants Vi was very abrupt; perhaps if he had POVs right at the beginning, it would have been less abrupt. Also, it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, it simply ends with a “to be continued.”
That being said, the world building and magic system were really interesting! I can’t wait for the next book. Highly recommend!
This book was so good, the magic, the characters, the banter, it was all top notch. I just couldn't get enough of it. I loved the characters and the world they lived in. It had me wanting to learn more of them and their world and the side characters too.
“I forced myself not to think about it because I have learned throughout my life that intrusive thoughts only occupy as much space in your brain as you allow them to… F*** That.”
Violet is minding her own business selling her pottery and art in the town market when a handsome stranger comes by and clicks his fingers and bam, violet is in another realm, she's thinking what the freck just happened. Violet has a lot of past traumas. She's sassy, strong , beautiful and she can hold her own. Xander is our handsome stranger who clicked his fingers. He's magical. The banter these two share is funny.. Them arguing is even funnier. And their passion is hot. So much built up tension it was bound to happen.
“The world will try to make you believe that the depth of your emotions is a weakness. Do not listen to them, Violet. Your intensity will be your saving grace. Use it, always.”
I'm not going to spoil it for you it's a must read and experience it for yourself. But it's so worth it and more. There is so many twists and turns, you will never see coming. Nothing is what it seems. I can't wait for more. Highly recommend
“He squinted at me. “Keep running that mouth of yours, Angel, and we’ll see where it gets you.” What was that little twist in my gut from his words? It couldn’t possibly be excitement.”
Ok listen the plot was good. The magic system was unique and all the side characters were really interesting. I loved Gar. Xander and the voice actor who narrated him were amazing!!! I could have listened to him the whole time. His character was great too.
Violet and her voice actor who narrated her UGH it was bad. It sounded like AI half the time. When the narrator used an accent it was fine. Also Violet as a character was just such a walking “it girl” cliche. Like can we jam every single girl boss energy stereotype into one female character. It was painful.
The author also spends a ridiculous amount of time describing inanimate objects….like no I do not want to listen to what color the cabinets are or one whole chapter about getting dressed for a party.
There were also a steep amount of weird audio editing problems. You could hear when extra audio had been added as it took a tin can sound to it.
Overall I finished this book out of spite. I wanted to know what was going to happen (even the though ending wasn’t actually that shocking or really even that big of a cliffhanger, because we all knew for many chapters as we waited for Violet to catch up) I will likely read book two and not listen even though I will miss Xanders voice.
*Also note the spice wasn’t that spicey. It was just ok. I thought going into it we might actually get some real Dom/Sub stuff but we didn’t, not really.
To start, the world building and magic system were super interesting to learn about. However, I did struggle a little bit getting into the book in the beginning.
I LOVED the fact that Violet was your give no fvcks, mouthy, sassy, MC! She was fun to read about and get to know. Xander and his moody broodiness complimented her well. I think my favorite character in the whole book though, was Gaar. I have a feeling that will continue into the next book too. I’m excited to get more of him and maybe even learn a bit more about him and his relationship with Xan. I do really hope we learn a bit more of the history and childhood between two certain characters. And maybe a bit more Archi too 🩵🥹
The plot twists were great and some of them I definitely did not see coming. I do think the plot in general could have been a bit smoother. Maybe with more Xaden povs or povs of some other characters. I feel like some things just kinda hit you in the face with not much of a build up.
The spice thought was *chefs kiss*😍 I enjoyed every second of that. Lots of tension and push and pull between the characters which is my faaaav.
Definitely can’t wait til the next book is out!
Huge thank you to unalive promotions and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you to Alice Stanco and Unalive Promotions for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review 🫶🏻
And to just preface this review: Yes, Alice is a good bookstagram friend of mine, but this review is nonetheless 100% honest (anything else would go against everything I stand for😅)
Now on to the review:
The amazing @alicestanco has been part of my bookstagram journey since day 1 (I think literally), so I can't even express how excited I was to get to read her debut novel Violence in the Void!
VitV is a fantasy dark romance with a whole lot of mental health rep, a tall, curvy FMC (THANK YOU for that🤌🏻), spicyyy spice🌶 (but not too spicy - I was honestly worried that it would be too dark dark romance-y but it was just really hot), great banter, and some really intriguing side characters (Gaar in particular👀👀).
With 600 pages I was honestly worried that this would be too long, but I feel like reading this went by in a flash. The writing is really engaging and even though I sometimes felt that things were a little over-explained, for a debut this was so so good! And while the magic system and world building aren't anything particularly earth-shatteringly new, there are enough unique components to make for a really intriguing story - I especially enjoyed the split dialect 🏴🇺🇸!
I wish Violet's backstory and trauma could've been explored in a bit more detail, but I hope we'll get to see more of that in the sequel 👀. And Xander and his backstory pretty much tore my heart apart so ... thanks for that, Alice🙃
The plot twist (that I probably should have seen coming but totally didn't) hit me like a freight train and I absolutely can't wait for book 2!! 💚
Violence in the Void is the novel by my friend Alice and let me tell you I’m so proud of her! This book is just amazing. I was lucky enough to not only be a beta reader but also read the ARC. She crushed my heart not once, but twice. Twists will wait for you when you least expect it.
The worldbuilding is fascinating. She creates this all-new universe hidden from humans where a society is divided by power (core). I loved it and I’m excited to learn more.
I loved her main character: Violet and Xander. Violet is bold, sassy and protective of her love one. I loved how she talk back to Xander. Sometime, I taught she doesn’t care for her life so much she push him. 😂 Xander baby is the morally grey character you want in your life.🥵He is grumpy, possessive with tattoos, and he read smut. I find it amusing how dramatic he is. He knows he is hot, but way too much. I loved how he called Violet: little human, angel, love. They both have a fascinating backstory that you will gradually discover. The tension between them is explosive.
In this book you will find:
⚔️Enemies-to-lovers 💜Morally grey MMC 😈Touch her and die 🍃Elemental magic 😶🌫️Hidden society ✌️Dual POV 🔥Slow burn 🌶️Spice
I should've read this way sooner because let me tell you, HE. READS. SMUT.
No, I will let you with that information so you can decide for yourself if you need more reasons to pick this up. Quick answer. No, you don't.
This was such an entertaining debut. I actually liked that we were slowly fed information throughout the book about the world building, same as Violet. We were actually learning information, at her pace, which made the reading experience quite immersive. This was quite a complex world, so I liked that the author decided to slowly explain it as the story developed, as to not overwhelm you with info dump.
Xander reads smut. ✨ And makes her pancakes. 💯 And he's kinda British. 💦 And he's obsessed her with her. 👌 And he's witty and sarcastic.🫦
Ugh! The banter was just so good. Mix a feisty black cat sassy woman and a snarky, funny and caring man and boom, you get this.
- Enemies to lovers - Magical hidden realms - He kidnaps her - Quest type of plot - Elemental Magic - Banterbanterbanterbanter - He knows she's his mate but she doesn't - Grief and depression rep - He's a tortured hero - Magic during sexy times ( iykyk) - "You're safe with me"
