Embarking on the final leg of their journey, Hazel, Arael and Thalia boldly venture into the depths of The Subconscious Forest. But a dark force lurks within, waiting in the shadows of the trees... and their minds. While The Conscious Realm faces its own harrowing challenges, the trio must battle far more than Nightmares to save it. Thalia is forced to face the reality of a Guardian's burden, as well as the truth behind the Fantasy legends of her childhood. Arael questions how capable he is of protecting those he loves, and struggles with which promises he ought to keep. Hazel, ever closer to the pendant's magic, and further from home than they'd thought possible, hardly even recognizes the person they're becoming; can they truly save the world? Or will they succumb to darkness themself, leaving behind more destruction than they can fathom?
A wonderful end to a fun and whimsical trilogy about love, family, and the sacrifices we make for those we love. I found the first half difficult to break into with an unconventional POV and writing style as well as a slow pace, but the back two thirds were as charming and engrossing as the rest of the series. The slow start was absolutely worth it to get to the character work woven into the last 200 or so pages. Characters and their relationships are where Quinn's writing shines brightest, and TPoH 3 was no exception. It can get a little cheesy at times, but that's part of the appeal of this series. In such a dark time for us, having a light-hearted fantasy series to turn to has been healing. There is love in these pages and you can feel it. Thank you, Riley, for these books! 🧡💜💚
This book was by far the best of the three, with it being the most enthralling and heartfelt conclusion. I struggled through the first book, but so glad I made the decision to continue through the second and make it to this final book of the series because it had such an amazing ending. Sure, the ending of a book like this would be expected, but the journey and the character growth made it all so worthwhile. To read exactly how all the loose ends of the book were tied were so interesting and exciting to go through, which in the end, makes me cherish the final messages this series gave.
As a note to the author, I adored reading your writing skills improve through this series. The storytelling, the character development, the urgency of the problems throughout the series was not the best in the first book. But the second one got better. I could see the improvement. And this final book, staggers me on how much I love it compared to the first. Keep writing, keep improving, Riley. I cannot wait to read the next books you write.
