Charlie is a fearful, apprehensive mother with issues to resolve with her son as she waits to board a flight to LA, hopeful of healing wounds. Theo, her son, relocated to LA twelve months earlier, his heartbroken and full of pain. Here in LA can he find the answer to his questions and heal? A year on, mother and son are on the same flight with past and presents on a collision course and Charlie has to use all her wits to help the fellow passengers on board.

I really like the prophetic, Groundhog Day vibe which keeps you in suspense throughout, fascinated to see how it all plays out. There are vivid descriptions of the flight which makes you feel as if you too are airborne and as breathless and tense as Charlie becomes. The pace rises and falls as the storytelling goes backwards and forwards in time and in time sequences which works really well as it helps to explain or even add to the confusion of the current circumstances. It’s very clever as you question what is real and what is not, it’s an intriguing puzzle to solve which makes for compelling reading.

The back stories are interesting and substantial taking the plot into dangerous territory and on more than one occasion I want to yell at Theo to use his brain and not be so dumb as to poke the bears he is confronting.

As the final sequence approaches and Charlie and the readers begin to comprehend whats at play here it becomes very dramatically entertaining. Maybe it’s a bit far-fetched but it certainly makes for very exciting reading. Dramatic licence and all that!

Overall, this is a good premise and the novel is very well written with the story unfolding organically and is another enjoyable read from this talented author.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Penguin Michael Joseph for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Hugely entertaining sci-fi thriller that takes place on a plane where a mother is on board trying to make amends with her pilot son who doesn’t know she’s on board.

Something terrible happens and the plane crashes with all killed. But the mother, Charlie, wakes up back on board and thinks she just had a bad dream…until it happens again! She alone seems to be in a time loop of sorts. The first time she went back to an hour before the crash. The second time just fifty minutes before the crash. She soon realizes she only has a finite number of loops to try and figure out what’s going on before her and everyone on board are lost forever.

That’s sort of the gist of it but there’s a huge back story from her distant past and her son’s more recent past that involves the mob and all sorts of bad people.

This was a hugely entertaining and well thought out thriller. The sci-fi element was very cleverly done as well as explained, and was a great vehicle to give Charlie time to try and figure out what was going on, along with adding to the tension as the window of change got shorter and shorter.

I’ve nothing bad to say about this book. Believable flawed characters, fantastic storytelling along with a hugely impressive and well thought out plot. I can’t think of another book to even compare it to.

5 spiraly stars from me.

Many thanks to the publisher for the ARC through Netgalley.

The best way to tell you about this book is to say…..think jumbo jet carrying 300 passengers and a time loop…..

Its riveting and scary and genuinely mesmerising as we find ourselves on the plane and time re appearing every few minutes to one of our fellow passengers

It is written VERY believably and that’s no short task on a subject that is unbelievable, but is it?….

Some wrenchingly nasty characters and a mum who will do anything, anything to save Leo, her son, who is the Captain of the plane

Would be my most unusual book this year so far and one that will stay in my memory, on the hour, every hour!

Intriguing, fresh and will be impossible to not to gain a reaction from any reader

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin RH for the ARC in exchange for an honest review! This book was simultaneously exactly what I suspected it would be and also totally unpredictable. Let me explain....

It centers around a mother on a flight to America to help her son out - although he is actually the pilot of the plane and unaware she's a passenger. She experiences the plane crash down loop after loop and has to concoct a plan to save the day.

There are several points I'd like to make about this book. Firstly, Theo's storyline was completely unexpected and truly added the essential drama to a plot which had limited outcomes.

By the time I was around half way through, I figured out why this airborne-Groundhog-Day was afoot and how it could be stopped. Although, the novel was so well written and beautifully paced that I was still on the edge of my seat to see how it ended and how close my predictions were to being correct. There were certain aspects as time ran out that I really didn't see coming and the ending was absolutely spectacular. Although it made sense, I hadn't guessed it, which was nice as there were many plot points along the way that I had predicted.

Both airplane crises and deja vu plots have been done to death in various ways over the years so I was really intrigued to know how Ward would execute this. Much to my amazement, this book was a solid 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5)! It's an easy read which hooks you and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the duration. There are elements of gangland culture, the complex and fraught relationship between a mother and son, tainted romance - even philosophical discussions of time and space! Yes, Spiral verges on sci-fi, but it still feels wholly believable due to Ward's gorgeous storytelling. This book is so much more than the premise: it's emotional, tense and brilliant.

Charlie is onboard a flight from London to LA & her son, Theo, is the co-pilot. He doesn't know Charlie is onboard as they are currently estranged - something Charlie wants to put right. At midnight, something goes wrong & the plane drops from the sky, starts to break into pieces & everyone dies.

Suddenly Charlie wakes up & checks her watch & it's 11pm. She thinks it must have been a nightmare, but as the events it starts to happen again (& again) Charlie realises she is caught in some kind of time loop that only she is aware of, & she needs to figure out how to save everyone.

The synopsis to this looked amazing so was really happy to get an ARC. The vast majority of the book is great - tense situation, dual narrative from Charlie in the present & Theo a year ago - but then we get to the ending. It was all going so well & it was a solid 4 stars for me, but I've never been more hacked off with an ending! (see below for spoiler) If it had been a physical book I would have literally flung it out the window. It dropped the rating down to a 3 for me.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Michael Joseph/Penguin Random House, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Three stars because of the brattish behaviour of Theo - I just got bored that a grown man would be so bloody stupid.

Charlie is on a flight to LA to see her estranged son Theo, and hopefully solve their issues. Ten hours into the flight the engine fails and the plane dives. That should be it but Charlie finds herself waking up an hour before the crash, which then repeats again and again. Will she manage to work out what’s going on and save everyone on board?

I was really drawn to the concept of this one and the cover. Although I have read a few Groundhog Day style novels, this seemed to hold its own and have a unique premise. I enjoyed that it was set in an aeroplane as it added to the sense of doom and there was great suspense.

The story is told mainly in the voice of Charlie now and Theo before and I found both storylines engaging. I found that I understood Charlie and could understand how she was feeling. Some of Theo’s actions did grate at times however. This book is fast paced, fun and well written. I’d definitely recommend to those who love an action packed thriller, offering something slightly different, to get hooked on. A great read where I found my mind literally spiralling at times. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

4⭐

this book is told in the past and present, where the present is told in a time loop where one hour keeps looping over and over again for the main character. she has to figure out how to stop the catastrophic event from happening before the final loop ends. the book kept my attention really well since a majority of the book is looping the same hour over again. the only things i didn't really like was that the book was a little slow for about the first 1/3 of it and the main character's son, theo, seemed more like a whiny toddler than a grown man, especially the way he acted when he put himself in such dangerous environments.

This is the third book I have read by this author, I loved the first two but sadly this one fell a little short for me.
Think groundhog day on a plane - so be prepared for some repetition and having to suspend disbelief! But that wasn't the issue, it was just how absolutely awful and unlikeable the characters are, which made for a disappointing conclusion.
The writing is good and the tension is there - it just wasn't the one for me.

I still have no clue what sort of magic was at work that caused the whole time loopey thing.l knew how it worked, not why it happened.

Was it a mother's love that caused it all? I'd like to think so.

I did want to kick her son multiple times, let's be honest, he's the reason why everything went to poop Central in the first place. Me me me me, i i i i, woe is me...yes Theo, we get it!

But to focus on the story, l thought it was great.
We have a mother who tries to fix her relationship with her son, and as time progresses and the plane crashes multiple times, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat whether or not the mother will manage to break the loop, saves the plane, its passengers, and reconcile with her only child.

4 stars!

I really did enjoy this book. I loved the cover. I got into it straight away. I did love the sound of the blurb. I liked Charlie. I did feel for her too. Wow I didn't expect that. This was full of action and I couldn't put it down. Read in two sittings. Twisty. I really didn't see that coming. I was surprised. I did sort of like the ending but it feels as though there will be more to come. 4*.

With many thanks to Netgalley for this free arc and I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily

This is an intriguing story in my first book by Cameron Ward. Set mainly from the POV of Charlie, in the present, and Theo in the past, this adds definition and depth to the storyline. Whilst the basis of the story about reliving the same day over and over again has been done before the author has chosen a different take on this and to live the same hour over and over again. The science within the story was compelling and highly fascinating giving a work of fiction a touch of realism. Great pace and tension in the latter half as Charlie pieces everything together and goes up against the clock. A solid 4⭐️ read

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.

I've been loving plane-based thrillers recently, particularly TJ Newman's Falling and Drowning, and Clare Mackintosh' Hostage. Which is weird as I am scared of flying at the best of times. But I think it's such a great location for a thriller, the claustrophobia and the natural fear I think we all have about being stuck in a tin can 35,000 feet in the air going 500 mph.

We see Charlie's story going forward on the plane trip, but we get to know Theo through flashbacks 12 months beforehand, counting down to the present.

There are many characters in this book, but for me, you're looking at two main characters, Charlie and Theo.

Charlie is our main character and Theo's mother. Did I like her? Yes and no. There wasn't any particular reason to dislike her, and I felt she was doing the right thing for herself, her son, and a plane full of strangers, she was just being a mother protecting her son. But there was something about her, something that niggled throughout that I couldn't quite put my finger on. But by the end she had redeemed herself and those thoughts of dislike had been replaced by pride at her character.

Then we have Theo, Charlie's son. For the most part we only get to know him through the flashback scenes, and through Charlie's thoughts and memories, so it was hard to hit on a definite opinion of him to begin with, but it was clear he was troubled. I disliked him in his flashback scenes (for the most part), I felt he was just going round in circles, not listening to anyone. I wasn't 100% sure how old he was meant to be in those scenes but for me was acting like a petulant child. But he clearly had issues and he got himself in too deep, and by the end I did have empathy for him.

I thought it might be a bit too familiar to the other plane-based thrillers I've mentioned above, but this has a twist. Yes it's a thriller, but we also have a fantasy/sci-fi element, there's romance, the dynamics between mother and son; which makes it stand out and makes it original enough.

It has been described as a Groundhog Day situation and, I may be the only person to admit this, but I didn't like Groundhog Day very much. I know it was meant to be repetitive, that's the whole point of it, but for me it went too far. Instead of it being an amusing and slightly frustrating premise, it became annoying and I wanted to turn it off. And there was a worry this would be similar and I'd give up half way through. But by having the other scenes set in the past and from Theo's POV help break it up and give great context for what's happening on the plane.

It's 400 pages, give or take, which would sometimes take me a matter of hours to read, and others several days. This was in the first category. The first quarter sped by so quickly, and I read it all in one day.

It does contain some difficult topics and scenes: obviously, plane crashes, but anxiety, alcohol problems, debt, crime, death, relationship difficulties, bribery, mob life, gambling etc.

Other reviews say that at about half way through, they figured out what the cause for the time slip in the plane....but I didn't. I mean, it does get quite scientific and technical, and so I understand what they're saying at a very basic level, but I can't dissect it enough to figure out what it actually meant in context to the story. If someone asked me to explain why and how this time slip on the plane was happening, I couldn't answer them. But maybe that's just me.

I thought it was very good, very original. I still have a few questions but I think he's done well. It's the right side of repetitive, is thrilling, with twists and turns. This is my first Cameron Ward book, but will not be my last.

This is a fabulous thriller that involves Theo an aircraft pilot, his mother and people from his past and present. The book's title is very appropriate as Theo's life spirals out of control as does the aeroplane he is flying.

The synopsis was very intriguing and definitely captured my attention when I read it. The thought of being caught in a loop that replays is good for adding suspense and mystery to a story, and this author has done it very well. This does have an obvious sci-fi edge to it with this time loop that has been included, but it only plays a very small part in the overall story. In some way, this time loop gives the author an additional way to enlighten the reader to the bigger picture.

Theo has never known who his father was, but after discovering some papers he finds that his mother has known who he was. Decidedin he needs to know more about himself and his roots, Theo goes off to the US to find him. What he finds is nothing like he imagined and he enters a world that is dark, and dangerous and will leave him wondering if he will survive!

I really like the way the author used the time loop aspect of this story, each time there was a reset there was a change. In between these the life of Theo, his relationship with his father and other people he meets during his time in the US is told. Alongside this is his mother's story, how she has always feared for him and has been so very protective of him.

Wanting to find his own answers leads to a split from his mother, but that does not mean his mother is about to let him walk from her. After all, she has looked after him and cared for him for all his life and she is not going to stop now.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I found myself wondering just how and if a mother could save so many people and also how quickly Theo's life spiralled down. The story that emerges of their lives and also of Theo's journey takes such a dark turn, but it is not as if he has not been given warnings to stay away. What he imagined is so far from what he discovers and this makes for such an interesting transition from a successful young man to someone who is desperate and on the edge.

A brilliant story with a great slip, well laid out and kept me avidly reading. If you like crime thrillers with a twist then this is one you may like to have a look at. It is one I would happily recommend.

Charlie is estranged from her adult son Theo after he fled to LA a year ago to find his father. Desperate to reconnect, she books a seat on a flight where he is the first officer. But as the flight is about to arrive at LA, the engine suddenly fails and the plane crashes, killing everybody on board. Then Charlie awakes again slightly under an hour before the crash - but what can she do to stop it? I enjoyed Cameron Ward's earlier thriller A Stranger on Board and I was attracted by the time-loop concept of Spiral, reminiscent of films like Source Code. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I found Charlie difficult to relate to for much of the novel as she takes so long to get it together - she soon works out she has limited time to solve this problem, and yet she still wastes time chatting to fellow passengers and doing random things like accepting drinks from the flight attendant. I imagine that Ward was trying to portray her disorientation and disbelief at being plunged into this situation, and that would have been fine first time round, but it was dragged out too long. I also found it unbelievable that she is supposedly a gifted mathematician and yet struggles to understand the basic physics of space-time: again, Ward probably wanted an excuse to explain it to the reader, but I would have given her a different academic speciality (she wouldn't need a maths degree to know the Fibonacci sequence). The structure of the novel was also frustrating, with Charlie wandering off into random flashbacks in the middle of her chapters - which again, gave the impression that she was sitting around thinking rather than doing. I also very quickly lost sympathy with Theo in his earlier thread, where he came across as incredibly naive and selfish - poor Laura! I did very much like the conclusion of Spiral, where things finally come together and Charlie comes into her own, but my overall sense was that this had the potential to be much better than it was.

I received a free proof copy of this novel from the publisher for review.

Charlie is on a flight from London to LA, travelling to try to meet her estranged son to reconcile. Ten hours into the flight something goes terribly wrong. The engines fail, the plane plummets and all passengers on board die. Then she wakes up. It was all a dream. An hour before the crash took place. Then the Groundhog Day effect starts to take place and she can’t believe what is happening. Until the plane crash happens again, and she wakes up again, this time a little bit closer to the time of the crash. Charlie has to figure out what is happening, and fast. She is the only person on the plane who seems to realise what is happening, but how can she change it?

This was a gripping read. It splits between Charlie’s story on the plane, and flashing to that of Theo, her estranged son. Charlie was a great character, and I loved it when the story was focused on her. Theo was harder to like, becoming more and more unlikable as we got to know him more. However, as the story progresses the twists in the plot of each time loop gives us more to the tale and we unearth more about Charlie and Theo and what has put them in this situation in the first place. To say any more will ruin the story, but it is safe to say there is a lot of misdirection in this one, a lot of plot twists, and a lot of angles you don’t see coming. The ending was a brilliant unseen twist! You will want to read this in one sitting, so make sure you have no other plans. Also, perhaps, don’t bring it as your plane reading material!

*I received this book from NetGalley for review, but all opinions are my own.

What's not to love about a time-travelling airplane crash book?
This book was a cross between Drowning/ Hostage and Wrong Place, Wrong time. If you liked any of these books, then this is the book for you, however, maybe not a read for the plane flight! It is, however, a perfect holiday read. Only thing is you will struggle to put it down! A total 'just one more page' read.
Charlie boards a flight where her son is the First Officer ( co-pilot), however we are aware there are issues between them and her son is unaware she is on the flight. Events take place and the plane crashes. The story fluctuates between current time - the plane flight and then one year ago, allowing the background story to unfold month by month. However we discover that Charlie wakes up and the plane has not crashed. How is this happening? Can she use this to her advantage to uncover what is happening and prevent the crash?
I gulped this down like a long cold drink on a boiling day! I was so intrigued by the story, even if I wasn't totally behind some of the characters and their decisions or actions.
This was my first Cameron Ward read and I am definitely going back to check out his earlier books. Thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph publishers for an advance readers copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review

From reading the description i knew i had to read this book. Spiral was a intriguing thriller/mystery that quickly drew me in and once i started i couldn't stop. Airplane setting books are always my favourite to read and this book is definitely in the top list, suspense and always on the edge, i enjoyed this book so much.

Spiral follows Charlie who is on board a plane where her estranged son Theo is the pilot, she wanted to surprise him and try and get their relationship back on good terms. However during the flight the plane fails and crashes killing everybody on board. In a twist Charlie wakes up an hour before said crash and now she has to figure out what she can do and can she stop the crash from happening? From the get go i rooted for Charlie and hoped she would be able to come out of all this safe and save everybody.

I do love a time travel book and especially flight books and Spiral ticked every single one of them. So much tension and twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed the characters in the book, the plot was fast paced and unique with unexpected moments but a excited and fun read that i would definitely recommend to everybody.

A solid five stars, many thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and Penguin Random House for the copy of this arc in exchange of my full honest review.

Wow, wow, WOW! This book took me on one hell of a ride! I wasn't completely sure of what to expect and it absolutely didn't disappoint!

Charlie is on a flight from London to LA, on which her son, Theo, is the First Officer and has no idea that his Mum is on board. At midnight, the plane crashes, killing everyone on board and then Charlie "wakes up" to find it's 11pm. Was it a dream? When it gets to midnight and the plane crashes again, Charlie realises she is in some kind of mysterious time loop and must find out how to break the cycle and save hundreds of lives.

I found this completely compelling and to add to that, after every time loop, we hear from Theo, starting from his first trip to LA, up to the present time, which adds another whole gripping dimension to the story. I know more than I should about the underbelly of the casino world, as a result of a family member's addiction, so this aspect of the story was really intense and harrowing, and my heart was breaking for Theo.

As the pieces started to fit together, I had to remind myself to breathe! The writing is superb, the character development is excellent and the plot is flawlessly executed. And then the ending - explosive, next level, I loved it!

Having read a previous book by Cameron Ward (A Stranger on Board) and rated it 5 stars I was so excited to see this on NetGalley!
Off the bat I want to say I rated this book about a 4.3 (CAWPILE method) and I really enjoyed it. The characters and overall story was great. The tension built as you tried along with Charlie to work out how the plane went down and what sequence of events led to the crash.

Whilst I loved the characters I wish we learned more about Logan and what happened in LA with him and Theo. What happened with Laura and Theo? So whilst this is good it missed the 5 star mark by leaving me with a feeling some characters and storylines weren't delved into enough. The tension built with those back stories and then they were just abandoned to get back to the plane so that Ward could weave those details through Charlie's actions. Which is an amazing feat but each one left me wanting a few paragraphs more.

Great thriller read overall though and also a nice easy read. I found myself racing through it to get to the next chapter to work out where the story was going.

Now I really need to go and read Safe House!

Thank you NetGalley and Michael Joseph for the chance to read this ARC.

A very interesting concept but not executed as well as it could have been.
Charlie, a single mother, has become estranged from her son, Theo, when he left to work in LA and to try and find the father he has never known and whom his mother always denied existed. Charlie takes a flight to LA to find Theo, boarding the flight that he is first officer on. Just before the flight is due to land it goes into shakes and shudders and nose dives towards earth. Charlie wakes to find the same scenario happening again - and she needs to stop it or a plane full of passengers will crash.
Charlie's chapters are interspersed with Theo's time in LA and it is here that I found the book was losing me. Theo comes across as selfish, spoilt and childish. Despite the best efforts of his girlfriend, Laura, and another woman, Anna, he blithely thinks he knows best and gives them no credit. I lost patience with him very early on but kept going with Charlie who managed to deduce a little more of what was happening with each time loop.
As I say, the concept is good but I didn't like the characters that much. The ending had a lot to redeem it though. I thought it was a fitting ending.
With thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for an early copy in return for an honest review.

Charlie is the mother of Theo who is the first officer on flight from London American Atlantic 229. They have been estranged for the last 12 months. But she's on the flight to surprise her son and reconcile their differences. After a phone call from a friend of Theo’s called Laura saying that his life is spinning out of control. Charlie is on the flight to help her son, but disaster strikes when the plane’s engine fails, and everyone dies.
Charlie wakes up thinking how she survived the crash. But then she realised that time has gone back an hour before as she must find out what happens to stop it from happening.
Spiral by Cameron Ward is it clearly written addictive read which I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It goes back in forth in time. Theo founding out about his father and leaving Charlie to go and find him. But he is not the guy that Theo expects him to be, and Theo gets into all sorts of trouble that leads up to the crash. Also, a mother getting some chances to rectify the problems she has done in the past. If you could change what happened with your children, what would you do?
This is a fascinating read. I loved it from start to finish. This is a unputdownable read. 5 stars from me.

Charlie is on a flight to LA to reconnect with her estranged son Theo, the first officer on the flight, who is unaware that she’s also on the plane. However, ten hours into the flight, something goes wrong — the plane enters a steep dive, and everyone on board dies instantly. But Charlie wakes an hour before the doomed crash and is the only one that knows what is about to happen…

I really enjoyed the ‘Groundhog Day’ aspect and how Charlie pieces together more information in each loop. Theo’s flashback storyline was intriguing as it connected his past experiences to the present events on the flight — even if he did annoy me at times.

I preferred the scenes on the plane as they gave me more of that tense, suspenseful feeling that I enjoy in thrillers, especially in the final loops of that final hour. However, the ending just fell a little flat for me — maybe it’s just because the resolution wasn’t what I was expecting or would have wanted.

Nethertheless, I finished the book in a day because I was eager to see how everything would play out and connect, and enjoyed it, despite the ending that didn’t completely satisfy me.

Thank you Penguin Random House for offering this ARC!

Woah what on earth did I just read?

That was utterly breath-taking and equally horrifying.

Whatever you do don't read this while on a plane, especially if you are a nervous flier - as someone who is reliving a fatal plane crash over and over again is not going to comfort you!

That being said it's probably a great book to read on holiday while you can spend hours uninterrupted digesting the story and coming up with your own ideas and theories just why Charlie's life is on this spiral.

And once you suspend reality at the Groundhog day-esque elements of this book, I was totally caught up in trying to work out what on earth was going on and why. Even with the chapters from Theo's point of view, where you see a young man on a downward spiral of his own.

There is a lot of science and maths involved at least from Charlie's chapters, most of which went over my head, but I did recognise the sequence, about a page before she did, so something must have stuck in my mind from school!

This is scary, it's compelling and its totally brilliant. Another must read book from an author that I am thoroughly enjoying reading.

Thank you Penguin and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This sounded like a great thriller especially as its not the usual plot line that most seem to follow. I was really enjoying the story, following along in the airplane with Charlie while reading how her son had got himself in this position over the previous months. I loved the time loop factor and Charlie knowing she was running out of time to save not only herself, her son and also a whole load of innocent people on the plane.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the storyline so much when focusing on Theos time leading up to this day in LA, it was just hard going at times, he was very self centered and had a bad attitude.
I enjoyed the bond with mother and son as I connect well with it and my heart broke at times but my biggest disappointment was how the time loop was explained, or lack of explanation really. It just kind of felt like it was a great idea but not really executed well sadly which was a huge let down as I wanted reasons for this event.
An exciting book with if the time loop had explanations better I would rate alot high and could make a great film but as it is, I rate #Sprial 3 Stars. Thank you #NetGalley for the arc

I LOVE Cameron Ward books, this is the third I've read and they're just tremendous thrillers.

Charlie is on a plane from Heathrow to LA, her son is the first officer but he doesn't know she's on board - they had a massive fight a year prior and, since his ex-gf has told her how far he's fallen, she's on her way to LA to try and mend their relationship. She's had a doze on the flight and wakes at 1101, at 1200 the plane dives and crashes, killing all on board....but then Charlie wakens....at 1101...was it a bad dream or is she being allowed the chance to save everyone on the plane?

Meanwhile, the other pov is from Charlie's son Theo 12 months previous, when he takes a transfer to LA. It details what he's hoping for and how his life is spiralling into devastation. As the book continues his timeline gets closer and closer to his mum's until they are both on the plane.

It's exciting, nail-biting by the final section when everything is current time. I'm taking one star off because Theo's sections are a bit of a slog at points, he really is somewhat dislikeable at times. The ending? *Chefs kiss*

I’m an avid flier. I travelled a lot as a child and LOVED planes so I always tend to read about them too… It just so happens that everything I read is a thriller and should put me off flying but it really doesn’t!

However, this was very twisted but so, so clever. We are introduced to Charlie who is taking a flight and it turns out the First Officer is her son. She is being advised to tell him she’s on the flight but it’s all very secretive and atmospheric.

Not long into the flight, the engine fails and the plane takes a nose dive… until Charlie wakes up. The people’s lives on the plane is in Charlies hands. It was very emotional and turbulent (no pun intended) and you can really feel the fear and unease with Charlie. She knows exactly what’s at stake AND her son is flying the plane.

The twists and turns were very good and at times, took me by surprise, I never saw it coming.

I would say that a little less repetition would’ve been good but I also understand why it was like that (no spoilers here!).

A huge thank you to Netgalley, Cameron Ward and Michael Joseph for this e-arc.

Charlie is on a flight from Heathrow to LA, while her son is one of the pilots. He doesn't know she is onboard and since they had a huge argument, they have barely spoken for a year. His girlfriend has got in touch to say she is worried about him, so Charlie is heading to LA, where he now lives, to try and sort things out. But when the plane goes into a nose-dive, crashes and kills everyone onboard, Charlie wakes up to find herself back on the plane an hour before the crash happens. Bad dream, or a glimpse of what is about to happen?

Told in a dual POV - Charlie in the present and her son Theo as a past insight into what he has been up to since the big fallout and move to LA, leading up to him getting onto the plane with his mum onboard.

Reminiscent of Final Destination and Groundhog Day, this was an exciting and action-packed read for the most part. My only niggle is the Theo sections weren't quite up there with the Charlie sections.

Recommended as a good, fast-paced read, maybe not for holiday if you are going by plane!
