This is the second book in the O'Neil crime family series. I imagine it would've been a good idea to have read the other book first, because it feels as though the reader is dropped into the middle of a complicated, dangerous situation, but rather than offering a prologue of previous events, the author attempts to impart the gist of the backstory through dialogue, and it's stilted and awkward, and doesn't do the job for which it seems to be intended. In a scene that defies common sense, knowing that he and Nora are being hunted by the ruthless Lukas, Ryan arranges a meeting with a business associate in a very public food court then once his contact reminds him Lukas is still at large, Ryan acts surprised and tries to slink away undetected. What? Furthermore, it's in the genre of romantic suspense, but there's very little romance. It's as though the author has decided that Nora and Ryan's intimacy is barely worth mentioning at this point in their journey. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the author and bookfunnel, and I'm pleased to share my honest thoughts.
I have never read anything by Amy Watts before, OMG this was fantastic! It was a little confusing at times, since I had not read the first book in the series. Nora and Ryan have lived in a safe house for a year, along with his two nieces Fiona and Mona. Ryan had worked for the FBI, and took down his family- The Oneils; a criminal organization. His brother Lukas is still out there, and wants Ryan dead. How can Ryan and his girlfriend Nora rebuild their life? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters.
Secrets and lies try to prise Ryan and Nora apart. He seeks a new life but his past comes fiercely close to rock the very foundations of their love. Weathering this storm will be the most dangerous yet. A tale of betrayal , trust but most of all love and trust … well written and entertaining. I read an advance copy and my review is voluntary
