Ah, here comes another volume of My Self-Restraint’s Not Here Today, the highly qamusing yuri tire fire that entertains through sheer virtue of its excesses. Which isn’t a bad thing, mind you.
Even when this story is, in fact, ridiculous or bad, it is howlingly so. There’s no question that this is being written exactly as the mangaka wants it and I respect that commitment to its design.
Still, when a climactic confrontation starts with Yuni framed so that her spine might break as she shoves her ass into the reader’s viewpoint, you have to laugh. Or you can wait for the very serious discussions that take place with Fuuko owning Yuni like she’s a dog in her spiderweb (it makes more sense than you think).
There’s a little more going on here than its depravity, but it can be hard to notice. It is especially telling that at one pivotal moment, Yuni manages to blame both Fuuko and Nanase, without noticing that she’s the real problem here.
But who has time for that when Fuuko can feel her up and offer to stay on as Yuni’s side piece? Yuni manages to protest not enough at all, which is probably also telling and makes me think there’s more to this yet. The way Fuuko slices through the tension at times is really welcome too, even though she sucks.
Of course, this is more about Nanase and her struggles as she ends up injured and that means she finally has time for dates! When Yuni also goes there immediately, it hints at how kind of broken their relationship actually is. No need to worry about Nanase’s passion for volleyball, supposed girlfriend.
Despite this, they seem to work things out, but not before Nanase ends up with a wee secret of her own, innocent as it might be. Not to mention she may have awoken something in her friend, which I am certain will stir up even more drama. It’s that sort of story.
I couldn’t tell you where this is going - Fuuko is left with naught but her actionable rage and yandere tendencies by the time we wrap up. Ergo, I have not taken my supposition for a murder ending off the table. There are also a couple of other conclusions we seem to be seeding here as well.
I wouldn’t call this garbage by any stretch, yet it’s still very trashy. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy such a thing, I very much am, but I’m not sure how anybody could take it at all seriously. Sure is fun though.
3 stars - I mean, look, if you want something this mean and awful, and characters this damaged, tack on another star. I won’t judge you, this is doing a great job of being what it wants to be. It’s a heck of a ride and feels like the most manga-ass manga I’ve read in a bit.
Oh man, Volume 4, you really have to suspend your belief here. The central drama is intense: you find out your girl, Nanase, is cheating with Fuuko, and then she Yuni starts turning the blame back on herself? That dynamic is frustrating, even if the reasoning behind it is sound once you dig into Yuni's head. Still, that feeling that giving up what you love is dumb totally lingers. Thankfully, the back-and-forth tension works because, to be fair, both Yuni and Nanase make a compelling case for their actions and feelings. It keeps you hooked, even if you want to shake some sense into them.
My main thought throughout this volume was the need for a lot more background on everyone. I feel that diving deep into their histories and motivations would make it much easier to digest the complex web of cheating and betraying that drives the story. I'm especially keen to see more background on Fuuko, the mistress of the group, to fully understand her manipulative role. On a lighter note, it definitely felt like the artist got more horny this volume as ass and tits grew, which is... an observation. I swear....
Despite the questionable decisions and drama, it’s a compelling, messy read. It earns a 3 out of 5 because I honestly love this trashy ass manga.

This series is a dramatic mess and I love it for that. It’s nice to see a Yuri where it’s not just a sweet romance between two sweet people. The art is absolutely stunning as well. This volume had the affair revealed, even though Nanase pretty much knew and was just in denial. It also had Yuki admitting her feelings for Nanase but then denying them, which honestly I hope Nanase ends up with Yuki in the end. And now I get to my issue with the series. I know the reader is supposed to find Fuuko to be the villainess here but I don’t see her that way. I think she is unwell and it hasn’t been addressed yet, I hope it is and soon. Yuni is my problem and has been for the past so many volumes. I find her to be unlikable and just awful. Is Nanase perfect? Absolutely not but Yuni is selfish and awful. I do not understand why Nanase would even want her back. Especially after she was letting Fuuko grope and strip her in front of her.I highly recommend this series for anyone looking for a messy Yuri. Hopefully Yuni takes some accountability for her actions that volume would get five stars.

Hm, I wasn't expecting the whole reveal now like Fuuko, c'mon girl, you could've stretched to another volume lmao. But, I digress. This was an interesting turn of events for the girls -- in where, I'm referring to Nanase and Fuuko. Because, at least, there's character development here. Yuni, on the other hand, idek.
She felt so noticeably absent from the whole ordeal, despite literally being in the middle of it. She is really going through the tides between Nanase and Fuuko -- which I guess aligns with her character, but like...girl, where's your head at in all of this??? So, weirdly enough, I felt this volume is rather weak. Fuuko deserves better as always.

The volume opens straight into a full-blown confrontation. At this point, it feels as if there is no real place for the story to land, and it’s hard to see any possible way the original couple could come out on top. Still, the narrative closes with a sense that things have somehow been patched up, at least on the surface.
Even so, it’s difficult to imagine anything other than a bad ending waiting ahead. I can’t help but wonder where this is all going. Despite the rather sordid developments, the struggles and feelings of all three characters are depicted clearly enough that their actions remain understandable, which makes the story readable even when it hurts.
had to pick my jaw off the floor with every chapter because of how off putting and wild each one was. it kept me on my toes and still has me laughing and going “damn” upon each reread. the final bonus chapter with the hair brushing scene is one of my favorite extras of the series and has one if my fav panels.
¡Nanase!

I am writing this having read volumes 1-6. This whole manga is trash, objectively, but in a very intentional way that is exactly what some people will want. It is an absolute drama-fest full of cheating and lying and manipulation, toxic people and relationships, and unrealistic everything. Most of the people in this manga are terrible people except for one who is an idiot, and one who (so far) seems to be a normal nice person who is caught up in the drama. So, if you want a drama full of toxic people then this is probably a good fit; if you want something realistic, romantic, or wholesome, then keep walking. Sometimes you just want to watch the dumpster fire, and there isn’t anything wrong with that! Oh, and the art is well done.
Rating manga volumes is hard; not a lot happens in each one after all as they are only a piece of the story. 5-star rating is based on the assumption that you want to read a toxic mess of a story. This chapter takes the prize for top-tier crazy and dramatic behavior, and in this case I don't even care that its the most unrealistic volume so far.
Volume 4 is where things go wild. No spoilers, but it takes the drama and insane behavior up to the highest level so far (by a lot). These people need therapy, or Jesus (and I'm not religious).
