This book is probably the most useful book I've read on how to focus your message and build a tribe around it. If you are looking for a book on how to choose brand colours, logos, etc, this isn't it. It's more useful. It helps you focus your message, build trust among your followers, and then monetize your skills.

3.5/5 | Small but mighty. Once uncovered, it cannot be unseen.

The 90 Day Brand Plan was an enjoyable read. Walker does an admirable job of explaining the importance of building a personal brand, while offering a series of actionable activities at the end of each chapter.

It definitely stands out as a great book for budding entrepreneurs or content creators. Walker spends a good amount of time explaining founder mindset and basic business etiquette, which is assumed for most, but for newcomers it is important.

Highlights for me included his “tribe and campfire” metaphor, where he explains that your personal brand is like a campfire. To attract your tribe, you must feed it:
• Wood chips – quick, short content like stories
• Twigs – longer reels and shorts
• Logs – long-form YouTube videos or paid content
• Log piles – books, podcasts, courses

Walker maintains this metaphor throughout the book, extending it to smoke signals (types of content that attract attention - a weak pun, in my opinion), and access roads (partnerships, affiliates, sponsorships) which connect your brand to other tribes.

However, I found a few shortcomings with the book:

1. The order feels off.
Walker introduces the campfire metaphor and assigns a content task before explaining the five brand categories you should be known for. The sequence would have been far more logical and effective if reversed. There were a few instances of where a rework would make more logical sense.

2. Lack of clarity on positioning.
While the book remains intentionally generic to be broadly applicable - which I liked - it also suggests you should promote yourself daily for 90 days. But it doesn’t help readers figure out what they should focus on. Walker implies you can just start, and eventually your audience will “tell” you what to sell. I found this idea either naïve, fake, or simply underexplored.

3. Walker’s own story lacks detail.
He mentions hating his job (starting at 7:30am in Australia - possibly a trade), and then suddenly he’s posting about content and brand, eventually building “one of the fastest-growing brand agencies in Australia.” But it’s unclear whether he had prior experience in branding or content - what was his experience to justify this? More transparency would have added depth. Self-reflection exercises would also help readers clarify what they want to be known for. This missing layer makes some parts feel surface-level, lacking authenticity and soul.

Despite these issues, it’s a quick, engaging read. Walker’s writing style is enjoyable, and most of his metaphors are clever and helpful. At under 200 pages, I recommend it – but more as a primer than a definitive guide. Would recommend for first time business owners, those new to business, or learning about basic business and marketing.

Dain utilizes his personal experience of branding mastery to roadmap an actionable 90-day workshop. The book excels in teaching how to establish yourself as an industry authority, how to monetise your skillset, and how to navigate the algorithm (praise be the algorithm).

However, many of the later chapters feel somewhat stale and rushed, containing numerous spelling and grammatical
errors.

A super persuasive and exciting guide book to utilise digital and psychological skills to your advantage. I found it was very direct, leaving no room for excuses to succeed in your goals – maybe 15% unrealistic for me personally, but extremely motivating nonetheless!

Finally, a book about branding without the usual tired clichés. Despite the title sounding suspiciously like yet another “X ways to…” or “X traits of…” self-help throwaway, it’s actually smart, straightforward, and genuinely useful. The content is well-structured, written in a lively tone, and printed beautifully on high-quality paper. An absolute joy to read, explore, and apply to your own business.
