Entertaining Read

Mel and Kali face more trials and obstacles. Invasion comes from Earth in the form of scientists and the Mad Monk. Rasputin turns out to be an enemy who kills a lot of people. How will Mel and Kali deal with this major problem? I like the action, humor, magic, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

Great series continues

I love this series and look forward to the next book any time I finish that current one.
It’s my go to recommendation for light hearted fun story though this one was quite a bit darker.
Let’s see where all the loose ends will take us in the next one.
I do wish Melvin would get more creative with his main power and also venture to some of us other skills and bloodlines.

After reading the previous book (The Accidental Contract) I seriously felt like just not reading this book even though I’d already purchased it. I don’t know if it was because of that or if the book really did start as obnoxious as the previous one was, but I found myself rolling my eyes over and over at Melvin’s recklessness and stupidity; I mean, how can he “acknowledge” that he keeps pulling stupid stunts and then keep doing it all over again? Just acknowledging that he has a problem doesn’t miraculously translate to character’s growth. And how can he really not get that his dad’s “M” stands for Merlin when even his mom’s first letter to his dad practically screamed it and it was later confirmed when the prisoners of the ring talked about the previous owner of said ring being Merlin? He even knew that the guy he saw when he got the ring was his dad (when he looked at the one picture his mom had of his dad waaaay before knowing the name of the ring’s previous owner)? I mean, this character is all over the place, he’s really “smart” for some things but an absolute idiot for others that are just common sense or as simple as putting 2 and 2 together. The are other things I noticed like:
1. Supposedly, he’s able to understand any language (as long as it’s not magical ‘cause those he has to learn) and he didn’t notice/understand what the skill he stole from Zofia means? She can obviously override the contract, I can see that disaster coming.
2. Remember that Zofia’s level was 1 (23) and when “awakened” she went straight to level 23 because all of her personal experience was kinda stored in her unawakened core? TELL ME WHY Maya isn’t able to catch back up to her 153 level in the new body when Melvin starts “touching” her core to try and get bloodlines? Isn’t it just the same as awakening someone? And if her personal experience was of level 153 even if the newly made body was level 1 (unawakened), shouldn’t her new body have caught up with her core level once awakened?
This story is all over the place. And don’t get me started about the grammar, spelling mistakes and sentences that you just have to decipher.
I’m still gonna read the 5th book cause my OCD just won’t allow me to quit a series once I’ve already started but I hope there’s at least some congruity in, what seems to be, the last book.
So far, I think this series was a great idea with bad planning, poor execution and no editor/proofreader.

Needs An Editor

Overall, I am enjoying the general story of this book. However, this book definitely needs an editor. There are a lot of spelling mistakes, missing words, run on sentences and incorrect grammar. I also think there is a little too much toilet humor. I understand this is a young adult series but still too much about toilets and going to the privy and bathroom humor

2,5 stars to be exact. I think this book is the start of a bad ending of the series. Big flaws for me in this book are the slowness at which I find the MC working on problems and that he's so frigging naïve concerning things. Certain passages you just know that things are a good or bad idea, but the MC always seem to go towards the bad idea.

Inconsistencies

Not a terrible story, but more than a couple of inconsistencies through out. Mostly just felt rushed and like the author was being hassled by an editor to just write something random.

Melvin and Kalli are amazing together. The things that they get mixed up in are quite entertaining. I also enjoy quite the following of good friends they have made in their adventures.
