“Game Not Over” takes a look at the weird and wonderful consoles, computers and handhelds that were missed by most of the mainstream audience. Featuring 160 pages of backstories and collecting tips from a British perspective, readers can learn all about the rare and obscure systems that even the most experienced and indulgent retro hobbyists may never have owned, played on, or ever seen in person.
An interesting read and I enjoyed learning more about a few of the rare systems that were unknown to me. Each system had about 4 pages detailing the history of the system and usually some interesting facts about it. However, I would like less brevity and a more independent look at each system covered. One major sticking point that I absolutely hated was the front cover artwork. Sorry, but the artwork was shockingly bad, and the old saying never judge a book by its cover is very apt here! Overall, I enjoyed the book but would have liked more indepth analysis of each system and it would have been good to have included the best and worst games for each of the systems.
Did what it said on the tin. Many of the systems looked at aren't unique and are just existing systems (megadrives etc.) represented in different ways, which wasn't what I was expecting to read about but was illuminating nevertheless.
