Miss Bianca Snow may be a hoyden who steals pastries from the kitchen, occasionally spins a fib, and has a mean right hook, but no one seems to mind except her stepmother. When her stepmother’s dislike turns to hatred and attempted murder, Bianca secretly flees to the back streets of London, disguising herself as a boy and falling in with a crew of young pickpockets.

Her childhood best friend Winston Graham is devastated when he hears the rumors that Bianca is dead. A chance encounter reveals the truth–she’s alive, and her murderous stepmother knows it. Can he find the girl he’s loved all his life and save her before it’s too late?

Enjoy this YA retelling of “Snow White," set in a Regency England where Faeries are real and magic is an acceptable accomplishment for young ladies.

All books in the Regency Magic Faerie Tales series are semi-connected standalones and can be read in any order.

Fantastic Regency fairy tale retelling

Combining a Fairy tale with magic and with a regency setting was absolutely fabulous!
This snow White retelling was so fun! I absolutely adored Bee and her backstory and who she was. Such a fantastically developed character.

Winston had my heart from the moment we meet him! And oh my goodness the emotional rollecoaster that is his experience in this story was so real and I was practically crying at different parts.

I loved the magic and how fun it was in the story! It's very whimsical but added such depth to all of the relationships.

The evil stepmother Malorie was such a a great villian. Her backstory was believable enough and developed enough to where I could understand the bitterness that led to her decisions.

The regency setting made this so unique and fun! I loved our seven dwarves and how adorable and sweet they were.

The ending. So. Good. So heartwarming. It was utterly fabulous.

💋This was a sweet and clean closed-door romance! Kisses only

⚠️Loss of parent, miscarriage, death and grief from loss greatly addressed

By far my favorite in this series. Winston was really a Prince Charming, and I really liked Bee as well. Perfect retelling of Snow White

Content:

Profanity: None.

Violence: High mild. There are fist fights in this, so a handful of bruises and punching people. There is one on-screen death with minor blood depicted. Attempted poisoning/murder.

Sexual: Mild. Hand holding, hugs, and hair/forehead kisses as well as some non-descriptive swoony kisses that don't go into spice territory.

Triggers: Features starving children living on the street. Betrayal of a parental guardian. Has a brief moment discussing how a character isn't bleeding because of stress/starving in regards to women's menstrual cycles.

This just won first place in my most favorite Snow White retelling that I've read to date.

I don't usually expect much of Snow White retellings since it's not my favorite, so color me delighted when I started reading this book and it took me firmly by the hand with a mischievous smile and pulled me into a romance/coming of age/adventure that hit all the right spots.

Bianca "Bee" Snow is feisty but kind, longs for adventure but loves her country home, and is loyal to a fault. She felt like a real person. She was fierce but delicate and didn't overestimate her own abilities. The balance was soooo well done. I get so tired of the 'kick-butt' girl trope where she doesn't need a man but gets one anyway and is independent and can handle anything. Bianca loves boxing, but she also loves sweets and riding horses, and wants to travel and see the world. She has a resilience that had me rooting for her from the outset.

Winston is her best friend in the world, and has been in love with her their whole lives. He's such a great character because he's so patient and loving toward everyone around him, as well as duty-minded. He treats Bianca as an equal, yet protects her when he knows she needs it, whether it's by racing to help her out of a life-threatening situation, or holding her when she's emotionally distressed. One of my favorite moments was when he You don't see men showing emotion much in media at all, and I appreciated that it wasn't over-dramatized; it was realistic. He was shattered. And his parents let him grieve.

The plot is so fantastic. The pacing is perfect, following three years or so of the lives of Bianca and Winston without ever dragging or skipping so I felt like I was missing out on character development or plot points. The story was engaging because it was so focused on Bianca and Winston. The way they individually grow, and grow together. This is one of the BEST examples of friends-to-lovers I've ever read.

The way the author weaved in bits from Malorie (the 'evil queen' character) to show her psycho de-evolution upped the tension in just the right way. The elements of Snow White were organically woven into the story in a way that had me chortling with satisfaction. And how it all ended? Sigh of contentment. But it did make me want

I don't want to say more and ruin any of the journey, so I'll just say that I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It's going on my list of books to purchase in hard copy!

There's nothing like a good old Regency Fairy Tale Retelling for a comfort read, and this super sweet frosted cupcake of romance novel fits the bill nicely.

What you need to know: Snow White in Regency England where magic is another skill to be learned by the upper classes.

Bianca (our little Snow White) is the daughter of a lord who is about to remarry. She's also a keen rider, amateur boxer (thanks to her stable-hand’s *ahem* background) and incredibly enthused by magic. Her BFF is Winston, son of the lord next door, who wants nothing more than to teach his friend magic she won't be taught as a lady... And for her to notice his feelings for her. Enter Mallorie, the cold fish of a step-mother who develops reasons to be jealous of Bianca. Over the course of three years things change in the household, but poor Bee never suspects just how deep that jealous runs.

What I Loved:
- The writing style is very readable and carries you into the head space of the each of the 3 POV characters
- Bianca's Not Like The Other Girls was also Not Like The Usual Not Like The Other Girls. She's not books v boxing; she likes a mixture of activities. It's easier to relate to a character not so polarised.
- The "Evil Step-Mother" has understandable reasons for the building of her dislike rather than just being because she's an evil person and wants to hate her (choosing to try and bump the kid off though? Yeah, that is evil)
- The friends to lovers is super cute
- The friendships between female characters are so nice to see in a story usually about female rivalry (and that we get fun side characters like Sally and Lord Larkwell)
- The "You gotta pick a pocket or two" approach when it comes to the dwarf replacement service. We might not know a load about each as an individual, but it was a believable way of having these quirky characters and seeing life from another perspective.
- Magic as a life skill!

Things I Noticed:
- Americanisms in a Regency England (and a bluebird). These were in no way a deal-breakers as it's not often, just that certain terms and phrases sound very US. Only a picker of nits like me would even note them.
- The pace could go quite slowly at times (particularly during the sick bed and Winston's sad chapters), but then pick up nicely again.
- The blurb sounds like most of the book will be set on the streets, but it doesn't get to that point until after 50% of the book.

TL;DR: A cute fairy tale retelling that hits all the right notes for a sedately paced Regency romance. With magic. And pastries.

This is a review for the all the enjoyable Regency Magic Faerie Tales, not just Her Cursed Apple. That one just happens to be my favorite of the series!

Eliza Prokopovits does a great job of setting the basic story lines of several classic fairy tales into a believable Regency setting, with the help of some faery magic that sets up the dilemmas to be resolved in each one. Other than that, and the fact that members of society use magic regularly, these stories would work as regular, clean Regency romances. (IMHO, most Regency romances should be fairly clean, unless premarital sex is essential to the plot; if not, spice is gratuitous and irritatingly anachronistic for Regency damsels.)

Magic and the Fae are just a fact of life, but are not intertwined into how society works, unlike in the fascinating magical Regency worlds created by Oliva Atwater, Stephanie Burgis, and Charlotte E. English. Magic is used in the Prokopovits Regency era by ladies to create decorative illusions, as "accomplishments" to be displayed at parties (some of the heroines disagree with that!), and by gentlemen for practical purposes and for careers similar to the military or law. The Fae are also not as capricious or malicious as they are depicted in those other series or most other depictions of the Fae, including many original faery tales. As a result, while enjoyable, the story lines are less complex and the magic is less perilous than in those other series.

I particularly like the way the villain and the seven dwarfs are written in Her Cursed Apple, as well as how the characters of Bianca Snow (aka Snow White) and her "prince" behave. I also found the action in this one to be the most gripping and the resolution to be the most touching. Her Enchanted Tower is a runner-up for me, in that respect.

If you like clever retellings of faery tales and clean Regency romances, this series is for you!

Bianca and Winston live on adjoining estates and have been friends since childhood. As their friendship grows into more, Bianca's life becomes endangered and she must disappear from the world she knows before she falls victim to a fatal curse.

This is an engaging retelling of "Snow White", taking place in a magical Regency England. I love the alternate universe that Prokipovits has created, and enjoyed the characters and plot of this story immensely. Like the previous books of the series, it's fun, sweet, and entertaining. Bianca's story is a bit more complex that the others, and as such, is my favorite so far.

I really loved this book. It was a retelling of Snow White. I enjoyed the take that the author had on this. I also really loved how feisty Bee was. Her love interest was one of my favorites so far. He was incredible! This may be my favorite out of all of the books in this series. The story building was great as well how the plot developed. I have enjoyed all of the series but I also how the author growing stronger with every novel and I am especially honored to watch that and see how she changes with every book too.

This is a charming Snow White retelling set in Old London. Bianca Snow is a spirited young lady and together with her childhood best friend Winston is enjoying life. That is until her stepmother comes onto the scene and tries to make her over. Bee as she is called by her friends resists this and her stepmother's hatred of her grows. Here's where we get the traditional Snow White story, but with a twist. Even though you know what the ending will be, couldn't be anything else, this is a very entertaining read!

Solid retelling

Good retelling, the characters are great, the Romance very sweet. It is very descriptive, sometimes a little much- sharing random tidbits of her day that didn't really influence the story and the ending was a little fast. But, I am still looking forward to reading some more in this series.

This was a brilliant clean regency fairy tale romance that improved on the classic story of Snow White and added drama and depth, all while keeping within the parameters of the world this series was contained in! Wholesome and uplifting, it also kept me totally invested in the characters and their story!

This is my lowest in the series, not because it was bad, but because it simply wasn’t necessarily my taste. The pacing felt a little slow, but again, it could have just been that I wasn’t as invested. I’m also not a huge Snow White person, so that could’ve played a role.
The ending was very sweet.

favorite retelling

I don’t like the fairytale Snow White. This made me like the tale. I loved the character development of all the characters, even the “evil queen”. Exceptionally well written.

How did the author manage to infuse the tale of Snow White with wisps of Heyer's "The Masqueraders" and Dickens' "Oliver Twist" and set it in a world like Wrede's Mairelon series? This was so fun and original - I have to re-read it again!

That was such a fun read! I love the chemistry between Bianca and Winston. There was so many twists and turns to the story! I also greatly enjoyed the way the seven dwarfs were introduced. This had everything, danger, adventure, sad parts, happy parts, and of course lots of sweet romance. Will definitely be reading again. I admit that this is one of my favourite Snow White retellings!
