I love writing humor (often the inappropriate kind), happy endings (both kinds), and characters quirky enough to be called oddballs (because... balls). If you love your romance heavy on the comedy and feel-good vibes, visit mishabell.com and sign up for my newsletter.
Billionaire Grump by Missa Bell Contemporary romantic comedy. Grumpy sunshine troupe. Juno: a cactus loving free spirit looking for a job caring for plants. Lucius: a business oriented billionaire too busy to tolerate inefficiencies. Plus highly allergic to cats. Together: fake dating to please his mother after getting caught by the paparazzi showing them together and secretly falling for each other though they have nothing in common. Except heat and attraction.
An amusing romance with a lot of banter and silly antics. Add some steam and it’s a wonderful heart inspiring romance. 🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this story narrated by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York who did an absolutely fantastic job playing off each other in the narration. Or maybe they never met or talked to each other IRL but their characteristics of each was dead on and seamlessly delivered for the reader. They made me look at other titles by this author to potential add to my tbr.
This was such a fun and cute read! Romantic Comedies are my favorite. I love when a book makes me laugh. I also like the fake relationship trope because that usually means we get more time with the couple. I found that to be true with Juno and Lucius, even if they didn’t truly become a couple right away. They spent a lot of time together getting to know each other to fool his Grandma. While it predictably turns into a real relationship, I enjoyed the journey. Fun book!
Audiobook: Narrators - Erin Mallon and Sebastian York
This was such a fun story made even better by the fabulous narration of this incredible set of narrators. It just doesn’t get any better than Mallon and York. They took me to a whole new place with this story. After reading it and loving it, I found listening added an even greater dimension as the characters came alive in all their quirky ways. This is definitely my favorite by this author and I’m thrilled to have the audiobook as the perfect reread.
Ebook review:
Holy fartlek!!! What a fun, wild ride with a couple that were everything I love!
The minute I see “grump” or “grumpy” in relation to romance, I’m going to jump on it asap. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I got my hands on this book! A grumpy billionaire? Yes! A hundred times yes! The fact that this starts off in Lucius’ point of view and I was a goner. Thank you Misha Bell for giving me a story that feeds the quirky side of my romance preferences.
I loved Juno as much as Lucius. She had a unique talent that I found to be fun and endearing. And while Lucius might be prickly, Juno is a pro when it comes to handling prickly things. There were so many instances that had me laughing out loud. Unbelievable moments, yes, but so much fun and a trip that emotionally removed me from the real world and plonked me down into a world I absolutely love.
This is definitely my favorite by this author/writing duo and I can’t recommend it enough. If you like grumpy billionaires, quirky heroines, don’t care what fartlek means but love it for the way it sounds, and are accepting of ferrets and cactus or are just interested to learn how they all come together into a great story, this is definitely a book you need to check out.
This book was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous in a funny “wtf is happening??” kind of way.
Lucius is…interesting to say the least. He’s a grump, obsessed with Ancient Rome - and I mean obsessed, thinks all bodily functions are pointless, and would rather be a robot instead of a human. He definitely hates his body. Oh and he has three ferrets.
Juno is…interesting, too. She’s all sunshine, is stuck in the 90’s with her technology, and is a plant expert that makes her cactus talk back to her. I’m serious. The cactus is named El Duderino. EL DUDERINO. Like I said “what the fuck is happening in this book??” 😂
This is a classic fake dating scenario that ends up with real feelings. Their meet cute was great. Soooo awkward and funny.
If you need a fluffy, eccentric, lighthearted rom-com with no drama then this is it. These two are weirdly perfect for each other.
Love this dynamic duo when they write these funny and quirky tales. Billionaire Grump was witty and had laugh out loud moments and I absolutely loved the "fake" relationship this couple embarked on. Lucius is a billionaire who has no time to follow his "biological" needs. He is almost brought to his knees when he encounters Juno in the elevator which leads them on a trek to find a relationship that works for both their needs. But they have bit off more than they can chew when the paparazzi gets wind of them and the families want to "meet" each other. Hilarious and so full of innuendos and mixed messages that I could not stop reading this story!
It's hard to say which part of this book was sillier. I am surprised that these types of stories are still being written in 2023.
I don't mind a socially awkward character. I love their candor and their gestures carry a little more weight with me. As ridiculous as Lucius' final act was.
I can't say Juno's personality isn't endearing and I love her family and quirky confidence. But she talks to plants like for real and though some may find it cute, I don't choose certain books for a reason.
Meeting Lucius' grandmother made their charade even more confusing because she is clearly 'active' enough to not be getting terminal illness wishes and nothing about her says he needed this elaborate ruse that from day one felt like anything but.
I don't know how much time passed but it felt like a month maybe and it just wasn't enough for me to believe their progression. Yes, the awkward date questions would help to build a liking/lust at the very least. But the whole thing just at times bordered on ridiculous.
A lot happened. The cattiness was a bit much and the obsession with ancient Rome explains why he was not on anyone's bingo card until he was dripping in money and even then.
I didn't expect much and I did read it all in one day but I could have done without it also. Funny moments and interesting conversations but just not for me.
As a biologist myself, I’m used to reading about “biology” and talking about “biology” and learning about “biology” on a daily basis… however, Lucius’ ludicrous OBSESSION with it (and Ancient Rome of all things) made me want to never even hear the word “biology” ever again. I’m halfway tempted to find another career.
In case you don’t believe me on how obsessed he was with “hacking” or “hating” his biology (i.e. basic human functions?) I counted and variations of the word “biology” were used at least 31 times in a less than 300 page ebook.
You might be thinking, “oh that’s not too bad, though”.
…You couldn’t be more wrong.
Here are a selection of some of my (least) favorite quotes: -“As always after a big meal, I HACK MY BIOLOGY by taking a walk to improve my blood sugar levels, decrease stress, and aid sleep.” -“I hate this and anything else that reminds me I’m a SLAVE TO BIOLOGY.” <— said because his stomach growled? Literally wtf 😂
Like it’s just so over the top ridiculous? And that’s not even going into his even greater obsession with Ancient Rome, Juno’s talking surfer cactus and her belief in a saguaro cactus as a deity, etc. Plus the plot holes, lack of character development or a believable timeline….
Anyway, this story was WAYYY too cringy for me. I forced myself to finish but good lord, save yourself the trauma and don’t even pick up this book.
I haven't read any of Anna zaires Misha bell books but im.a sucker for billionaire books so I read this one. I was expecting hot, crazy smex scenes and delicious smeexual tension and I got.a sweet trying to be ROM com 😂😂😂🤦
This was a cheesy cheese 🧀💕 romance with the funkiest characters. The guy who is obsessed with Rome and gal who just loves to treat cactus 🌵 as humans. It was entertaining nonetheless.
Can't imagine how the authors managed to mingle so much about Rome and the cactus with the story🙆. There was some rich guy poor girl stereotypes but glad it was passed after the initial chapters.
Fake Dating…. I want to like this trope because soooo many authors use it but I just don’t.
That is not to say that is why this book for me was so painful; it was the plant talking back to her. I get it she is quirky and it is supposed to be fun and light hearted and that is fine the first few times but it went on a little too long for me to like it.
I did love the ferrets, and how grumpy our main man was but… I just couldn’t get in line with our girl. For the most part I liked her but it was a little too far fetched for me.
Misha Bell tidak pernah mengecewakan emang buat gw, bacanya sampai ngakak-ngakak gak kelar2, grumpy sunshine emang favorit banget ^^
Juno ini temen roomate nya Royally Trick yg punya kucing ajaib ahahahahahah Ceritanya si ya std pura2 tp lama2 suka beneran, cuma cara ngobrol dan tema obrolannya itu bikin ngakak2 banget... heronya ini mas2 baek2 gt, bkn playboy dst dst.. malah lebih gak pengen jadi manusia, pengennya jadi robot.. kl mbaknya mikirnya kl masnya kaya kaktus, judes bgt abisan, untungnya si heroine sangat tergila-gila sama yg namanya kaktus LOL
Wow I loved this book more than I thought I would.
I got this as part of a BOGO deal on Audible and I had low expectations. I seriously couldn’t put this down. The following are the things I enjoyed the most about this grumpy sunshine billionaire romance:
1) The vet tech part of me enjoyed the funny ferret anatomy lesson. If you read the book then you know what I’m talking about and yes people to that… 2) This book had me when they made a joke about how terrible Jar Jar Binks was in the Star Wars franchise. 3) The FMC making a Dr Who reference when talking about her apartment. 4) The etymology lessons throughout the book, I personally enjoyed all the Latin. 5)The immature jokes about fartlek (or fart lick) 6) Finally the realistic depiction of how much men truly think about The Roman Empire. IYKYK
Docked stars for the stupid gun scene, Grandma Pearl and the bodyguard (but lets be honest we all knew that was coming), and I wish the woman who worked for Lucian (I already forgot her name) played a bigger role and was more of an antagonist.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
At over halfway through, I was contemplating giving this four stars because, despite its ridiculousness, I was actually having a good time. It’s been a hot minute since I read a rom-com so I knew what I was getting into and it was funny and silly but I liked the MCs. They were both a little quirky and I laughed more than I expected.
However the last 25% it just got too absurd and rushed. The storylines were wrapped up easily and quickly. Low key second hand embarrassment a little too much. 🙈
I will say though that I don’t know I would if I would have liked it as much if I read vs listened to the audio. Sebastian and Erin were fabulous as usual and really made the characters come to life. 5⭐️ audio for sure
This was a really enjoyable read with great chemistry between the characters—I especially loved the fake dating dynamic and the touch of spice throughout. However, I wasn’t a fan of all the cactus references, particularly the surfer boy-style spin on them. Those parts pulled me out of the story a bit, and I found myself skimming through those moments. That said, the overall plot was fun, and I’d definitely recommend it to fans of romance with humor, heart, and a playful twist
Juno and Lucius' meet cute had me laughing so hard that I was crying and that was just the beginning. This story was so much fun and super entertaining which meant I couldn't put it down. Billionaire Grump is the rom com I didn't know I needed and is a must read!
I quickly became a fan of Misha's right from the start, but I have to say - this is my favourite so far! I just love these two, Lucian and Juno are the epitome of opposites! She's a cactuses (cactuses is a word - you'll soon learn 😏) but yes, she loves Cactuses, she's all sunshine, pleasant, cute, funny etc... And then we have Lucian who is Rome obsessed, non-emotional and is just waiting on humans becoming robots (again - you'll soon learn 😏)
After a comical yet embarrassing encounter in a lift and then being caught by paparazzi, a fake relationship is called for!
There's no denying fake-relationship has become a popular trope BUT these two are so freaking adorable, it's definitely worth reading!
Highly recommend 😁
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is my favourite yet. Lucius and Junos story has you on the edge of your seat. Awkward grumpy billionaire is stuck in the lift with a women who is not phased by him but can teach him what a real relationship is. Filled with fun and lusty suspense there are animals,a fabulously naughty grandma and crazy butler to boot. This book has such a feel good factor,I loved it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed listening to this book! The relationship between Juno and Lucius is so much fun! Great story! And, as always, I LOVE the narrators. They just add so much more to the story!!
Billionaire Grump is filled with Misha Bell’s signature zany and eccentric characters. With a laugh out loud funny storyline, packed with hilarious one liners, this book is a feel good joy to read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jam packed with clever humor and witty dialogue, this book is sure to put a smile on your face and have you laughing out loud. I loved Lucius and Juno. Their chemistry is electric and sparks they generate are pure fire. The story is cute and fun but also sweet and incredibly heartwarming. I am independently posting an impartial review.
