The 2023 Capricorn Coast Student Writers Anthology includes the winning and runner-up entries from the 2023 Capricorn Coast Writers Festival Student Short Story Competition. This was the festival's second writing competition and was open to all school students residing in the Livingstone Shire. The theme was islands. The 24 short stories and 1 poem in this anthology are from students in Years 1 through to Year 12.

Elaine Ouston is the author of several popular books for children, including the fantasy series The Mystery of Nida Valley. This series is based around a hidden valley where Australia's megafauna roam. She has also published picture books about the megafauna. This is the first in the Bush Tails chapter book series.

She is the writing tutor and editor at Gondor Writers' Centre and organizes literary festivals at Australian Literary Festivals and Book Fairs.
