Darmon stared into the dark abyss stretching into the mountains. The river was rising and soon the tunnel could be closed. His dreams had told him he must enter. But Ona's arms were wrapped around his waist. He'd searched he savage planet and braved its dangers to find her. New terrors or rewards might wait inside. Could he risk his future with Ona to find out?
Tana shifted nervously as the current struck his mighty legs. He wanted to turn back, but the tall, alien creature was his friend, and he would obey his command. He turned his massive head, looking for the answer in Darmon's purple eyes.
Darmon made his decision. He'd come too far to turn back now. He had to know what lay beyond the mysterious opening even if meant death. He slapped his hand against the elephant's side.
“Tana, go!”
