An autobiographical masterpiece by Intizar Hussain, reminiscing on his early life in India and then the post-partition Pakistan, transitioning into a vivid history of the formative years of the young country and its people.
After 50 years of partition, a really brilliant writer was forced to write something on partition. He migrated from India to Pakistan because it was what everybody was doing; he wasn't giving much thought to what was happening at that time, but after 50 years of it, he finally started scrutinizing his memory, and as a result of which, he came up with this wonderful book. What a journey I experienced while listening to this book narrated by Fawad Khan on Audible; beautiful narration I must say. I want to finally read it and make a notebook of all the minor details of old times, from train rides to finding homes, from meeting different writers/poets/activists to spending time in the tea-cafes. This book is a true depiction of old Lahore, long evenings, intellectually stimulating conversations. Oh my God, what an experience! This book is not just a narrative; it’s a heartfelt journey that resonates deeply with anyone who cherishes the past.
