Delightfully Unhinged and Sadistically Sexy

The Takeda men have my heart 💕

Kiyoshi (Book 1: Bad Guy) has been my man forever and I never thought anyone could come close BUT THEN
I met his brother 🫠

Hisashi and Taylor made me feel soooo many emotions.
Thank you for this story Kenya.

I was sent an ARC of this book for an honest review.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hishashi was a very interesting character. He was the main pull that kept me reading. I disliked the whole story. Not him being who he was. I actually liked when his other self showed up. But all the abusive stuff, that were NOT due to his illness just left me cold to the "romance" part of the book. After the firts few one that were good if a bit formulaic (there is so much male sexual dominance that one can find hot, especially when it looks so much like the one between other couples in the series), I skipped all the sex scenes that were just sexual violences to me. The one that spark some interest was the one by the end were the roles where consensually reversed and it's a shame it was not more explored and somehow said to be detrimental to him.

I particularly dislike how bdsm is always used in those "dark" "romance". No matter how many warnings the author gives, not asking for explicit consent is never ok. And just because one asks once, does not mean it is ok to force oneself on anyone another time. Also eliciting arousal does not make sexual violence ok. Because keeping someone against their will and proceeding to force sexual intercourse with them is not ok just because they are supposedly "soul mates" or whatever. There is nothing to root for in such a situation. I liked Hishashi, but disliked how he was written to behave and could care less about him and Taylor.

I wished Taylor was more than some sex object/mental medecine to him. I wished she was more of a character on her own. But she was never given much depth. She hardly interacted with anyone else than H to get a sense of wjo she was, we never get to see her be on her own, talented and all. I just felt bad for her, being half of a character. There were glimpses of the person she was, and I quite liked her or could have been but it was never developped.

So, I would not advised against this book. Itcis an interesting read. Too bad it failed to reach the potential of its own characters and their complicated selves and story.

Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 5/5
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 5/5
POV: Dual
Ending: HEA
Tropes: Dark Romance, BDSM
Relationship Dynamic: M/F
Recommendation: YES!!!

MMC: Hisashi Takeda
FMC: Taylor Love Takeda aka “Little Dove”

I DO believe you should read “Bad Guy: The Blood Legacy Series (Book 1)” prior to reading this book, it will give you a better understanding to some of the characters in this book.

***Before anything please note that this book is trigger warning heavy. This book does include a character with a mental health disorder. Also if you are triggered by suicidal ideation, abortion, blood play, breath play, and victim violence(r@p3) then proceed with caution. ***

Hisashi Takeda, brother of Kiyoshi Takeda who is introduced in Book 1. Taylor Love, a fellowship recipient student of the Takeda Family. It was obsession at first sight for Hisashi when they met at a welcoming fellowship reception for students of Sophia University. Little did Taylor know that her insta lust would turn into something of her worst nightmares. Hisashi is unhinged in the best way. He is VERY misunderstood. The mistreatment by his mother explains the dynamics of him and his brother. With a mother like that who needs enemies. His need for love and acceptance results in him having a sick fascination with his wife. YES, I said wife!!! You have to read it to believe it. Outside influences result in them separating for 10 YEARS!!! These two face some of the most horrific events and their love is an emotional roller coaster. The vulnerability in this book is what makes it great. I LOVE a man with BDE and doesn’t play about the one he loves even if he is manic. Call me crazy, but by the end of this book I thought this was one of the sweetest dark romances that I have ever read. I absolutely loved when Hisashi/Monster “Guardian” becomes one with himself and is accepted completely by Taylor “Little Dove”.

Just when you thought Kenya couldn't possibly get anymore unhinged, any more (dare I say it) toxic, she goes and does exactly that! Heed my words and read her trigger warnings because the first page lets you know exactly where this book has the potential to go. Many people won't make it past page 1 and that is ok... bow out gracefully with your head held high. For those of you like myself who are reading masochist settle in.

Let me first say that Kenya is my brand of bonkers and my 3.5 rating is more so on the writing/story telling rather than the actual contents. The first 50% of the book I was kicking my feet up, giggling and having a ball but once that hammer dropped.... stuff really hit the fan! Personally the book was a longer than necessary and it suffered from an over indulgence on the spicy scenes. Don't get me wrong, they are HOT and can get quite creative but I need the plot too. While the plot was there, I wouldn't have been able to reach the motive behind the major villain had I not read Bad Guy. Although it is always best for people to read a series in order, that is not always the case. Lastly, I felt the ending was a little disjointed. I felt like Kenya willed the couple together and happy without addressing some really heavy issues in their relationship. I understand the mental illness diagnosis may prevent their relationship from returning to pre-trauma dynamics but I feel like we could have spent more time in the rebuilding stage.

I feel that I may need to do a reread in the future to see if my ruling still stands but I will say this.... Taylor said "that's my man and I'ma stick beside him" and that's her business!

KENYA... girl! This was GOOOD!!!

READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! What she says in them shows up.

I was engrossed in this book from beginning to end!

All three main characters had me on my toes (yes, I said three because our little guardian had me snickering one moment and clutching my pearls the next)

What they went through is so wrong and so many levels. They never got the chance to see what they could have been together because of that nasty woman.

There were some spelling mistakes, but I didn't take me out of the book. The storytelling had me hooked.

The spice! 😍😍🥵🥵 was soo good. This book is SPICY! like truly spicy with HEAVY KINK. Just pure deliciousness.

The fact that all 5 of these books are happening basically at the same time is CRAZY! like damn this was a busy time for the Love girls!

Also, I appreciate the Conceh sausage references! I be wanting them to fix me a plate of grits and sausage, too.

The book being called toxic is comical, funny even. It’s quite literally unhinged on levels I don’t think I’ve fully processed nor understand. It’s top tier toxic and psycho, to the point where I just wanted to finish because I was nosy more so than the story was phenomenal. It’s a solid 3 but I wouldn’t recommend it either.

I absolutely loved this book. I received an ARC copy and devoured it. This is book 4 in the Kenya Goree-Bell Blood Legacy series. This is Hisashi’s story. When I say he is unhinged…he is UNHINGED. He’s also misunderstood and mistreated by his mother so some of his actions make sense. I cannot wait until the next book.

I'm just here to say that although Hishashi is demented and all around crazy as hell... WHERE CAN I BUY ONE!? 3 stars for the story... STARS across the board for this man!
My goodness, I can't even really be angry at him. I don't recall him actually HURTING her... so I'm sure it was just sexual torture?? I can't really remember, but that 'guardian'
.... yeah, I wanna buy him too please.
Don't ask me any questions about this book, I don't care. Yes, there are many crazy and messed up parts, such as his trifling ass mama and what she did to cause those miscarriages.
I was very pleased when she met her end.
I got some things to say about the brother, the cousin, etc... but I'll leave those for another discussion.

I have been waiting on this story and it delivered as soon as I received my ARC copy I sat down and explored a whole new world.

More than once while reading this story I had to clutch my pretend pearls and say to myself “ Oh Sugar Honey, Iced, Tea… . Yes, I have been waiting on Hisashi’s story for many years but I must say I was not prepared for all of this! The twists and turns in this story and the way this man LOVED Taylor was very dark but lovely. Taylor was a confident woman who surprised me in how she showed love to Hisashi. There were many scenes in the story I was not prepared for and questioned if things went a little bit too far. But the author had a way of bringing the reader back and making you feel comfortable when the story took sudden drastic turns. On another note The Takeda family is not to be played with by anyone. I would say this is a must read but make sure you have a lot of free time because you will not want to put this book down once you start. I appreciated the author’s effort to weave all the Takeda family books together. I am planning to go back and re-read all things Takeda as the stories connect but can be read as a standalone with no issue. A MUST READ but please read all disclaimers before you immerse yourself into this couple’s world.

This book is called TOXIC for a reason! It was one hell of a ride and I enjoyed every last moment!

If you are a dark romance girle like me, this is the perfect book for you. It's the perfect blend of a lover and a stalker.

Hisashi will forever hold a special place in my heart. Despite his challenges, he is doing the best he can with the tools he has. It's not what 98% of ppl would probably do, but it works 😂😂😂

Taylor is everything!!! She's also a little on the crazy side for dealing with Hisashi because this man puts her through it, okay. Nonetheless, she is right there taking it all and loving him for him.

"So, you're not going to kill me, like you planned?" - Taylor

"Only if that were the only way I could keep you by my side. I'd rather visit your tomb everyday. But that won't be necessary will it?" - Hisashi

These two characters had me feeling so many things. I was happy, sad, frustrated, annoyed, excited, and more. The most powerful emotion for me had to come directly from Hisashi and Taylor, which was unconditional love. I fell in love with their love.

Be prepared for an intense story when you pick this book up (not if, but when) because it not your cookie cutter romance book. Get ready to fall in love with the most TOXIC couple you could ever imagine!

The long separation bothered me. They met at 19 during college in Japan. They got married. Then were separated 10 years.

SPOILERS.

MAJOR SPOILERS

But he has mental health issues and a voice in his head. So he tied her up and left her for days. She almost died of dehydration. She left after that when his mom threatened to have her deported. She wanted him to get help.

He always stalked her and watched over her. Except he spent 3 years being tortured in a mental institution. He thought she sent him there as his wife. But it was his mother. It took most of the book for that to be discovered.

He likes tying her up and spanking her. She likes it.

He kills his mom for sending him to that mental institution where he was raped.

His voice in his head tried to kill the heroine a few times. His voice thought she was bad for him. He takes medication and goes to therapy and he has it under control now.

His mom also used servants to poison her and she has miscarriages because of it.

He supports her career and tries to take her on trips and make her happy.

ARC review: This book is just like the title implies to be… Toxic! She came with the heat and emotions in this book! If you have read her previous books then you have gotten glimpses of the main character Hishashi. All I can say is that man is crazy about some Taylor! lol This was a whirlwind of emotions from these two. I was rooting for Taylor then Hishashi, but outside influences (where if you read her previous books you know who I’m talking about) led for them to be apart for some time. Hishashi had some would say sick fascination on what was going on in Taylor’s life from their time apart from cameras to spying on her. This guy is cray cray! All Hishashi was thinking was that she left him during his most vulnerable time in his life. Read to find out what happens!

Awesome book! I would recommend reading the previous books to get an idea of the outside characters. Highly recommend. I will say with the copy I had did have spelling/ grammatical errors, but I’m sure the final copy will be good to go!

Dark romance. Not for the faint of heart. Trigger Warnings!

Hisashi is my favorite antihero to date. He’s not just a bad boy with issues, he’s a whole subscription! The red flags are big and bold but you don’t seem to care. He loves Taylor beyond description and she loves him. Hisashi assumes Taylor just dumped him and wants revengeSo he kidnaps her to punish her. Boy for he punish her in the most delicious/messed up ways. Depending on how dark you love it. 😘 This story makes you question yourself on things you know are wrong but you understand the whys and look the other way. Especially when it comes to the Monster. If you have read the rest of the Blood Legacy then you’ll get a glimpse of some old favorites. If you haven’t read the others please do so. KG-B has inched her way up to my number one dark romance author with this world she has created. I love getting lost in it. If you cheer for the villain, you will not be disappointed. If you love an all consuming love story with a solid ending, you will not be disappointed.

Definitely Toxic

Whew, the title TOXIC ain’t just for show—this book lives up to the name in every way. But what really shook me was Hishashi’s character. His mental illness played such a deep role in shaping who he became, the monster he turned into. And let’s be real—this book is over-the-top BDSM. Like, I had to sit with myself for a second and wonder, do I need to self-evaluate for loving this as much as I do? 😂

But listen, Toxic is INTENSE. It’s dark, twisted, and still made me shed a few tears. Because yeah, Hishashi did the absolute most to get his wife Taylor back—wrong as hell, but you can’t deny the lengths he was willing to go for love.

Also… this book really got me out here contemplating a katana. I already got a kendo stick, so why not complete the set? Just so I can hear it sing. 🗡️😂

If you love books that push the limits, make you question your morals, and leave you wrecked in the best way, this one is a MUST-READ. Kenya Goree-Bell really does not miss!

✨Took my breath away...✨🪢😈
From the very first sentence- it was clear this was not going to be ANYTHING like KGB’s previous work. I was confounded and enthralled from the very beginning. This book is DARK. It’s HEART WRENCHING. It’s VIOLENT. It’s also one of the very BEST BOOKS I have ever read. I adore Hisashi and Taylor so much. I am definitely going to need some time after this one, but I was so happy and honored I got to read it. I love to read books with diversity and visibility. I recommend this author to anyone needing something ✨more✨. She always delivers. I read this book immediately after it was available and I tell you- I know this book will be with me for a long time. I got goosebumps several times. Take some time to make sure that you are mentally in a safe place before reading. I received an ARC of this book but all of my thoughts and opinions are my own. If I didn’t love this book, I wouldn’t sing it praises. I DO love it and I hope you read it.

Okay, what the hell did I just read? And I mean this is a good way! Even with the warnings that I took great care to read, I was not prepared for this effortlessly beautiful and epic saga of love, hate, murder, madness, no holds barred sex (pages and pages of it) and hope.
The heroine Taylor seemed to be caught up in a maelstrom of psychological warfare with Hishashi Takeda her estranged husband and his monster/ demon/ protector whatever you may call it and I was swept up right along with her. I didn’t feel was if I was reading a book it felt as if I was there within the very pages. So much so that when ‘He’ (iykyk)unexpectedly made his appearance to Taylor I almost scared myself! Definitely did not see that coming. Well played, Ms Goree-Bell and well told. I have never read anything as brilliant as this and to the author I say, thank you.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book was SO hard for me to put down! The writing and the arrangement took hold of me and would y let me go. I hated having to work because it kept me from finishing (lol).

This is a dark romance book, so of course the romance is in the crazy antics. I loved the growth Hisashi showed through the book. He’s struggle was one I can kind of relate to because it’s super hard to bare your soul to someone after a betrayal. I liked how Taylor attempted to find a way to break down his relationship walls after a while. My heart broke for her in some instances, which says a lot about how the writing was done.

There were a few places where I was confused on what was happening and who was doing what, but I was able to assume by the context afterwards (this is also the ARC copy so I’m sure the official release will have it clarified). Overall, this book was worth it to me! I’m a fan!

To say I wasn’t ready would be an understatement! Cause baby, I WASN’T READY!!! If Ms. Kenya Goree-Bell don’t do nothing else she’s gonna give you a READ honey and boy did she!!!! Listen this book was a wee bit past my comfort zone at times but it sucked me in from the first page. I was riding with these two with all my heart. Hisashi was next level cray, cray but you just knew there was something underneath all that psycho that was worth rooting for. His love and obsession for Taylor had me in a chokehold. He loved that woman regardless of what he may have thought she did or didn’t do, his love was never a question. Ms.Taylor loved her crazy man right back. Their relationship was not the norm but for them it worked. Through their trials and tribulations (cause there were plenty) they overcame it all together. I can’t wait for more from the Shelby - Love town.

This book was indeed TOXIC and very unhinged. Giving it four stars because it managed to keep my attention the way that it did. So, despite any other feelings I may have about the story, the writing was clearly effective enough for me to continue reading!

I was hoping that, unlike the other two women I have read in this series, Taylor would show a backbone and she showed a little bit of one! Hisashi was unforgivable and I would’ve fought back fr, but hey, that’s why it’s fiction.

I don’t think this book went through any editing. Like, several typos on every page. BUT, despite that (and I hate to admit this because the storyline was ableist af), I was still entertained.

If you’re looking for something that’ll have you open-mouth gasping because of the wild sh!t that happens, read this!

This is a dark romance and is quite enthralling from start to finish.

Facebook is most definitely dark and there are several triggers that might make some uncomfortable. if you enjoy this book has incredibly complicated characters and the plot in with the first two books in the blood legacy series. Hisashi and Taylor is a second chance romance. We are both don’t realize why and who exactly was responsible for their separation.Hisahii is battling his personal demons but you can see his chemistry and love for Taylor, which is definitely obsessive and possessive, but nonetheless is so much fun to read is not a person you can run over and see her relationship and how much she actually loves him is a major part of why I love this book I really did enjoy the progression of the relationship and felt caught up in the story from start to finish.

Baaaayyyybbbaaaay! When I tell you that this is a dark romance! This is what dark romance readers want! Hiyashi probably has moved up to top three book boyfriends. I absolutely was entranced by him and his little dove. Guardian was also nothing to mess with and let himself be known in a big way. The way I tell you this story had me googling!! I’m cackling! I loved the mention of the shapewear and I also found it different that the mmc had the trust issues where usually the fmc harbors those. The Takeda family is unhinged and I was smiling just to be invited for the ride. The conversations between the leads was so beautiful at times that I let out audible sighs. Me! A stone cold takes no prisoner eye roll of the sappy! Sprint don’t walk to read this book!

Yes so uh, I don’t think unhinged properly describes this man. I think it is a complete understatement. Deranged, understatement, Menace, understatement. For example, “Kill her. Fuck her dead corpse. The insidious whispers slide in and if not for the medication, I would act on the impulse. I’d fantasized about it long enough.” 👀 The book top tier just for the unhinged-ness. To speak a little bit about the love story talk about loving someone inside and out no matter what because Hisashi was a lot to handle and Taylor handled him so well.

Favorite Quote: “I knew in that moment you were going to be my everything, completely, unequivocally, mine. I know I'll never be worthy but I'm just selfish enough of a motherfucker to know without you my life has no merit, no purpose. The way you love me makes m realize there is hope for someone as broken as me."

This book was TOXIC in the best way! Hisashi was obsessive and went after what he wanted. I could not but this book down I had to find out how it ended. There was good mix of spice and plot. Taylor was strong FMC and loved that she knew what she wanted. This series keeps getting better, I would suggest reading other books in series to get side characters stories. But can read as standalone. If you love a second chance obsessive unhinged in the best way MMC and FMC who is not ashamed to love her man this is the book for you. I was lucky to received ARC of this book. Keep it up Kenya this book was fire 🔥 could not get enough!

Kept me hooked

This book! Never thought I would like a book based on an actual psychopath but here we are. Story was well written. It flowed and didn't have unnecessary conflicts just for the sake of prolonging the story. Even when there was conflict, they never strayed. I enjoyed it. If you don't like lots of sexy times in your books, stay away! If, however, that's what you're on, come over to the dark side hahahaha. Everyone deserves love, even those who are not always in control. Their mother though, jiiish. She's the real mental case. Glad that is now resolved. Looking forward to more books by Kenya.

Decent Read

This was good but not my favorite in the series. It read a little long and I was more interested in the plot than the redundant love scenes. So I found myself skipping through a lot of the book. There were a lot of twists and turns but there were also some questions that I feel went unanswered. The book was truly toxic; so really pay attention to those trigger warnings because some are easier to stomach than others. I think I wanted the FMC to stick up for herself and be firm. However she seemed so easily swayed and that was annoying to me as the reader however, overall it was decent and I look forward to reading Kandie’s book next.

Spice on spice on spice with emotional torment sprinkled in with a twist.
I love love loved this.
Hitoshi should be a walking red flag….. HOWEVER!!!
He was battling his monster / ✨guardian✨ and that shit is hard. Taylor was so beautifully patient and man did my heart break for her.
Character development and communication development was incredible.
It just showed the unique bond the main characters shared.
My heart will need some healing from the emotions that forced me through but it was wrapped up in such a great way im very pleased.

Another great book from Kenya!

This one was a journey. So many highs and lows and as the reader, I felt every one of them, I was so engrossed in the narrative. This story was a true testament of love—what it isn’t, what it is. Hisashi and Taylor went through A LOT and that’s putting it mildly, but what I love the most is that this story shows marriage isn’t simply a wedding and a happily ever after. It takes more than just love, and this story displayed all the complexities beautifully. Oh, and the steam? Enough to make the Sun jealous. 😉🥵🔥 10/10 highly recommend. 🥰

Fantastic!

I am definitely reading this book again!!, Goree-Bell’s writing is engrossing and compelling, she captures the emotions of all her characters so well, which ends with well rounded characters that you really want to understand which means putting the book down is difficult😀. The characters journey comes across as being well thought out before pen hits the paper! So far in the series I have enjoyed this one and Easy’s story which I have read twice! I’m looking forward to the next chapter in this series. Great read thanx

Phantom of the opera vibes

Disclaimer #1 - I'm not much of a fan of dark romances.
Counter disclaimer - except when they give me Phantom of the Opera vibes.
And this one does. I fell in love with Hisashi in the first chapter. This is how warped my mind is.
I'm so happy Taylor came into his life. She loves him unconditionally but also understands she has to protect herself. I see where he comes from in feeling betrayed but no healthy person would be that dumb.
This is a great mix of die-hard love, mental health awareness, erotica, boundaries and violence.
