The 6 Step Plan

Rate this book
Evan is Violet's best friend and decade-long crush, but she's kept it well under control...mostly. At least that’s what she tells herself when her feelings threaten to overwhelm her. Diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, she is determined to suffer both her illness and her attraction in silence. But lately it's gotten harder to keep those feelings at bay, and she’s beginning to worry she may be careening toward disaster. Violet is Evan's best friend, and there's definitely nothing romantic between them. Until a green dress, a rogue insect, and an annoyingly muscled English teacher throw his world into a tailspin. Now he needs a plan to woo his best friend...without destroying their entire relationship in the process. He needs to fix everything; she wants not to be a burden. Their friendship could blossom into a love of a lifetime if they can just get past their fear.

This was such a cute and cozy friends to lovers story. I loved it.
Our main characters Vi and Evan are best friends and had been pining for each other for years. You will witness all the efforts Evan is putting to woo his bestfriend.
He was such a gentleman and the way he took care of Vi, my heart was destroyed😭😭😭
Also the author did a great job with the chronic illness rep.

3 stars 🌟 let’s start with the good! i really liked the chronic illness rep and i think that the author did a wonderful job portraying what it’s like to deal with it everyday 🙈 violetevan were sweet in the first 50% but then they confessed their love for each other and i knew the story kind of lost me 😭

i totally understand just realizing you’ve been in love with your best friend for 10 years but i also felt like the second half wasn’t good enough for me to go with it 🥲 i hated the 3rd act breakup and thought it was insanely stupid and by the end, had no interest in the couple whatsoever 💔

Violet has a bit of a hard life as she has a chronic illness (lupus). With lupus constantly attacking her body and immune system, she struggles at times, and she feels like a burden to people. They’ve even pointed out to her that her illness takes a toll on them because they constantly have to help her. But Evan, her best friend, is always there to help with no complaints. She’s always had a crush on him, but she never voiced it. And Evan never realized how he felt until he saw someone else flirting with her. Then he devises his 6 step plan to show her that they were meant to be.

I felt bad for Violet, because she was made to feel like a burden to others. One of the reasons she was wary of being with Evan was because she didn’t want to make him feel responsible for helping her. And it wasn’t as if she was pitying herself; it was just because she was constantly told how her illness affected others. Despite how hard some days were, Violet was still so bubbly and kind to everyone. She didn’t let it hold her back from having fun and enjoying life.

Evan was such a sweetheart! He was always watching out for Violet and ensuring she was feeling okay, because he knew how her lupus affected her. He just wanted to help Violet and show her that she wasn’t a burden.

I thought the chronic illness representation was written well, because I could really see the different ways Violet was struggling because of it. Also, the friend group was great! This was such a cute best friends to lovers, slow burn romance, and I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book! It was cute! It gave me fireflies! (IYKYK) Evan and Violet were absolutely everything! The best of friends! They pined over each other for so long! They were both hesitant to make a move! Evan cared for Violet so deeply and it was so cute to see! He would do anything for her! He took such great care of her and helping out with her chronic illness! It was great to see a chronic illness be represented in a book! I can’t wait to see what Kandice is working on next!

Tropes, Topics & Themes:
✨ Best Friends to Lovers
✨ She falls first, He falls harder
✨ Witty banter
✨ One bed
✨ Chronic illness rep
✨It’s always been you

When I say I devoured this book! I mean it!🔥🔥 Not only was this book super cute but the spice🌶️ was on point.

Violet has been battling her chronic illness since she was young. Still not accepting that the pain she goes through is okay.

She stays to herself after a relationship in the past that ended horribly. Leaving her to always self-doubt herself. She would rather be alone than feel like a burden to anyone else.

Evan has always been the caretaker of his family. Making sure everyone else is okay will being Violet’s best friend.

While these two are very close, their friendship has always been important. Over the years Vi’s crush on Evan has grown but she doesn’t think he feels the same way as her.

Once Evan realizes it’s always been her after all these years. He comes up with a 6 step plan to win her heart.

Both these characters were relatable and I loved the friendship between them. With the help of Evan, Violet starts to not examine her illness so much and finally starts loving herself the way she should have all these years.

Evan was such a sweetheart!! I loved him so much. Everyone could use a friend like Evan in their life. Even though he had to realize he couldn’t try to take care of every single thing in others' lives. He’s a great supporter. He’s pretty amazing in the spice department too😉.

Thank you so much Kandice Hemenway for this beautiful package and book. I truly enjoyed it so much and can’t wait to check out more books from you!💛

The 6 Step Plan is a spicy friends to lovers romcom about Violet and Evan, two best friends who met in college a decade ago and who still have a mutual crush on one another that each one believes is unrequited. Evan is an up and coming architect at a major company in Austin, Texas and has a chance at his big break when he is asked to pitch an idea for a new building downtown. Violet is an editor for a publishing company but absolutely hates the woman who manages her because Gemma degraded Violet's editing and worth as a person around every corner. With her job offering her the freedom to work at home but causing her such misery, Violet decides to take a leap of faith and signs up for a writing fellowship that will be in Boston for six months that her favorite author is mentoring. With some helpful nudges and hints in the right direction from their group of mutual college friends after a weekend at the lake house, Evan devises a 6 step plan in his notebook to woo Violet into being his girlfriend, only if she feels the same way.

I adored this little rom-com! Violet battles lupus, and the chronic illness representation in this book was extremely positive and enabling to all those with a medical condition. Several characters in the book, Violet's mom included, attempt to hold Violet back from life simply because they "don't think she'd handle it well", which makes Violet have the need to stand up for herself and tell the world that she is strong enough to face the world and all its challenges, including those her own body places her in at times. The friendship and then romantic interactions between Evan and Violet are incredibly sweet and tender as he makes sure to care for her, especially in her times of need when all her energy is spent and she requires extra care on her flare-up days.

Evan really is a sweet guy who tends to his family and group of friends without anyone having to ask it of him. Speaking of, Evan's relationship with his niece Tabbie is incredibly sweet and wholesome, so I loved all of their scenes together. All in all, this is an easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me.

I fully loved this debut!! It's a sweet and charming romcom with chronic illness representation, bee-induced partial nudity, and the cinnamon roll hero to end all cinnamon roll heroes.

Favorite parts: I found both Even and Violet extremely relatable. I loved how much the two cared for each other even as friends, which made the build up to a relationship all the more confusing for them. *Is Evan being friendly, or is this a full-fledged seduction?* It’s a legitimate question for them, because he’s such an adorable sweetheart. Anyway, every Friends-to-Lovers romcom needs this brand of delicious tension. I also loved the turning point of unbridled jealousy that Evan endures. So many humorous moments unfold once this is sparked and you love him even more for it. Also, I adored that their friendship remained equally important once things started heating up. Basically, Evan is the ultimate book boyfriend, you can send the others home.

The chronic illness rep is fantastic and heartening. As someone who lives with chronic illness and makes all the adjustments needed each day, I felt a kinship with Violet. She has very real battles to fight and you fight them along with her. The spice is a welcome addition to the story that shows up right on time, and has all the build up and excitement you’d expect. To avoid spoilers, I will just say there’s fun lead up to the big moment and it very much pays off. I highlighted passages to return to later, so I can say this with confidence.

I love this era of contemporary romance, where we get to see full, beautiful lives in which the lead finds true love and self-acceptance. Characters like Violet illustrate the universal truth that chronic illness can and will present challenges, but it will not keep you from the life and love you deserve. And we deserve an adoring and thoughtful Evan, each and every one of us!

If you are a huge fan of Mazey Eddings, Chloe Liese, and Jean Meltzer, you will love this book too.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The 6 Step Plan by Kandice Hemenway is a contemporary romance novel that promises an emotionally charged and heartwarming story centered around the complexities of friendship, unspoken feelings, and the challenges of transitioning from best friends to lovers.

The story is about Evan and Violet, who share a deep and enduring friendship. However, beneath the surface of their close bond lies a decade-long crush that Violet has carefully concealed due to her own personal struggles with an auto-immune disease. She is determined to bear the weight of her illness and her unspoken attraction silently, but as time passes, the intensity of her feelings becomes increasingly difficult to suppress, leaving her worried that her emotions may lead to unforeseen consequences.

Evan, on the other hand, views their relationship strictly as friends, with no romantic inclinations whatsoever. But a series of unexpected events, including a green dress, an insect, and the intrusion of an English teacher with an imposing presence, disrupts his previously steadfast perspective. Now, Evan is faced with the challenge of devising a plan to win Violet's heart without jeopardizing the profound friendship they share.

The novel explores themes of love, friendship, personal growth, and the power of honesty. Evan's desire to fix their situation and Violet's wish not to be a burden add depth and complexity to their evolving relationship. As they navigate their fears and emotions, they embark on a journey that could lead to a love that lasts a lifetime, provided they can overcome the hurdles before them.

Violet struggles with chronic pain due to her auto-immune disease. It’s been a struggle trying to navigate it, but thanks to her best friend, Evan, she manages pretty well. Evan has been there for her for the last ten years and has seen her at her best, and her worst, and yet he’s still there - but as nothing more than friends. Or so they have both convinced themselves.

Until one earth shattering moment when Evan realizes that it’s been her all along. Now all he has to do is show her that there’s more between them than just friendship.

The 6 Step Plan is a wholesome and inspiring story of overcoming both physical and mental pain. I had an immediate connection with Violet, as I have fibromyalgia. So it was easy to relate to some of the pain and everyday struggles that she was experiencing.

Evan is obviously the epitome of the perfect friend, and partner. He was selfless, loyal, and probably the most caring character you could imagine. His love for Violet, platonic or romantic, is something that we can all only dream of experiencing in our own lives.

I appreciated Violet’s perseverance and her journey to be independent. Experiencing chronic pain myself, I fully understand how difficult it is to sometimes rely on other for help. However, I felt so much of the book focused on her stubbornness and trying to push Evan away. I also found their lack of communication about their feelings to be infuriating. It made sense in the beginning, while they were still trying to navigate those feelings, but it seemed to drag on a bit longer than necessary.

Overall, in getting past some of my frustrations, I did enjoy this book thanks to Evan. Had his character been even slightly different, I might have found myself rating this differently.

Thank you to the author and Reedsy for this ARC, and the chance to share my honest review.

"From reading my mind to making me laugh to turning me on in less than two minutes. This is why you’re in love with her. It didn’t even feel like a revelation."

W o w. This book consumed me. I read it in one setting the day it hit my kindle, I just couldn't put it down.

Evan and Violet have been best friends for a decade. Violet has had a crush on Evan for just as long. But she has a handle on it and he definitely doesn't see her /like that/. Until it feels like, maybe he does...

Evan is up there as book boyfriends go. He's caring, funny, supportive, will drop everything for Violet. Just all around a warm and squidgy cinnamon roll. Completely understand Violet's infatuation. Violet is empathetic, almost to a fault, witty and so clever. It was so painful seeing her talk herself out of the signals Evan was throwing her way but the HEA was well worth the misery (honestly mutual pining is an underrated trope).

I loved the representation of Lupus. As someone who has lived with a person who has a lifelong autoimmune condition I felt like it was depicted so well. Violet's fears were so real and echoed things I've heard said by my loved one. She has such a supportive and understanding network and honestly I cried a lot reading this book. I was so happy to see her growth and realisation that those who love her don't see her as a burden, they know what they're signing up for with her condition, but love her for who she is.

I’ve read relatively few romance novels that really touch on relatable life experiences well also conveying the bubbly like the feeling of finding a person, and I really think Candace Hemenway does a fantastic job of combining those two things!

TLDR: 3.5/5

One of the things I most enjoyed about the 6 Step Plan was how relatable, realistic are two main characters are — especially as they grow in their relationship and as their own individual self! I have to find that in the romance genre, the plot is significantly dampened by unrealistic expectations on either the female main character or the male main character but in this case, I felt that it was relatively balanced, and was very well executed! I personally loved that we see a Violet really come to terms with her chronic illness, while also growing into someone, she can be proud of, and be more confident in herself. AndI also really found it interesting and heartwarming that we see our main male character, Evan, also go on his own self realization journey, and come to terms with his own trauma, and how it impacts his own life. Together Violet and Evan are such a happy force and you can’t help but root for their relationship and swoon when they’re together!

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a more contemporary romance that has some very relatable themes on self growth, believing in yourself and dealing with a chronic illness! Thanks again to the Author Agency for this ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: best friends to lovers, cinnamon roll hero, mutual pining, it's always been you

𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: chronic illness, ableism, abandonment

This book hooked me from the first pages!!

Violet has been fighting chronic illness for a very long time and still does not accept that she can live her life like anyone else. Even her ex-relationship didn't help her get rid of these thoughts and that's why now she always doubts herself. She would rather be alone than be someone else's burden.

Evan has always been the caretaker of the family, but also of Violet when she is not feeling well. He has a very beautiful friendship with Violet, but deep down he always had feelings for her, but never acted. That's why now he comes up with a 6-step plan to conquer Violet.

Our sweet Violet falls directly into his arms. I would have done the same... Evan is the sweetest and most caring man. She always had a crush on him, but she was afraid that the feelings were not mutual, so she did nothing.

Together, they begin to discover another side of the relationship, but also to develop themselves. Violet starts to have more confidence and love herself, and Evan realizes that he doesn't have to take care of anything in other people's lives.

It takes a while until their happy ending, but it was necessary for both of them to realize certain things so that their relationship could move forward smoothly.

Thank you Kandice Hemenway for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.

🤍 Friends to lovers
🤍 Mutual pining
🤍 It’s always been you
🤍 She falls first

Violet has lupus and she struggles with frustration at her limitations and sometimes she feels like a burden especially when it comes to relationship. Her best friend is the guy she has crush with for years, Evan, always help her but never knew her feeling towards him. Until when a guy flirt with Violet, he realised all this time he loves her and he tries to convince and show Violet his real feelings. That’s how he came with 6 step plan to win her.

I really adore friendship between Violet and Evan. Everyone needs a man like Evan, how he always show up through thick and thin. I like that he takes care of Violet like a lover even before they started their relationship. While Violet, she keeps thinking the ‘what ifs’ and doesn’t want to become a burden to him, and I get that. But sometimes her insecurities makes me want to shake her and scream at her. There’s maybe some miscommuincation scene but I’m glad the author didn’t push it too far. Also I like how they give theirselves some space like a mature adults should do and that’s why I’m giving extra star.

All in all, this is really an enjoyable read. I can’t put it down and finished this in one go. If you like those tropes listed, check this one out!

A perfect best friends-to-lovers palette cleanser, which is just what I wanted!

Evan knows that he is perfect for his best friend, Violet. Violet has been keeping her crush for Evan under wraps, mostly. When Evan decides that enough is enough and that he wants to move into more-than-friends territory, he creates a 6-Step Plan to show Violet that he's the right man for her. However, Violet believes that her chronic condition, Lupus, will be too much for any person to handle in a partner and threatens to keep Evan in the friend zone.

This was ALMOST a 5 star read! It was just so cute and fluffy and even had a little spice! The communication between Violet and Evan was mostly perfect and I loved how well they knew each other.
However, one of my biggest grievances in a book is people making decisions for others EVEN when they're told different.
Evan is (seemingly) the perfect friend and boyfriend, which also rubbed me the wrong way, sometimes. He was a bit obsessed and had a hero complex, which can be off-putting. However, I did adore his want to take care of Violet when she got sick.

The friend group in this story was also the best. I always love when books come with friend groups that have the best banter! I definitely laughed a ton and fell in love with everyone in the story!

The biggest thank you to Grey's Promotions and Kandice Hemenway for an eARC of this story! All opinions are my own!!

🩵 Best Friends To Lovers
💙 Mutual Pining & Witty Banter
💚 Cinnamon Roll MMC

I LOVED this story so much. Violet has been in love with her best friend Evan for the last decade. In that time, she ignored and pushed down those feelings because he is her best friend, and she wouldn't do anything to jeopardize that friendship. She also deals with the difficulties that come with having a chronic illness and feels like a burden to her friends and family, often doubting herself and her capabilities. Evan is always there to selflessly help and support her needs, no questions asked. Evan's feelings come crashing to the surface when he sees another man flirting with Violet. Cue the six-step plan to woo your best friend.

Evan has to be one of the sweetest book boyfriends. I loved his jealousy spirals and how kind and attentive he is to Violet and her needs. The banter, chemistry, and sometimes awkward exchanges are guaranteed to make you swoon and give you all the lightning bugs. There is also a lot of personal and realistic growth from both Evan and Violet that I really enjoyed. The group of friends that Evan and Violet have were so lovable. Supportive, caring, and a little bit meddlesome.

This book is now available, and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Being in love with your best friend is always a problem. After years of friendship Evan is ready to make Violet his. He's got a 6-step plan in action and he's ready to go. Violet has a chronic illness and everyone treats her like a fragile doll. She wants to be treated without the training wheels on. She's also been pining after Evan for ten years but thinks it can't happen. What happens when Evan's plans start falling in place?

The way this man loves and cared for Violet. Swoon. I melted at everything he did. The spice was perfect. Can I can the bathtub scene was *chefs kiss*. This was my first Kandice Hemenway book, but I know it won’t be my last! “The 6 Step Plan” is a best friends to lovers romance that will make you laugh and swoon all at the same time. The two POV characters are Violet and Evan, who have been best friends since they were in college. Ten years later, Evan realizes that it’s always been Violet, and comes up with a 6 step plan to win her heart.

Okay, so I’m going to start off by saying that I really, truly loved this book. I enjoyed the banter between Violet, Evan, and their friends; the chronic illness rep was extremely well-written, and it made me feel seen. Violet and Evan were an adorable couple, and even though they both made mistakes, I’m really glad they found happiness in the end. They had good chemistry, and I loved the way they always gravitated towards each other.

Violet was such a sweetheart, and I wanted to cry for her several times throughout the book because of the way she viewed herself. She’d convinced herself she was a burden and didn’t deserve romantic love, when nothing could be further from the truth. As for Evan, I thought he was a wonderful, kindhearted person. Yes, he was a little overbearing at times, but his intentions were good. He was not only an amazing boyfriend but an incredible friend. This was definitely a 5 star read for me!

I loved this friends to lovers and slow burn/both pining for each other love story between Violet and Evan.

From the beginning chapters, I already loved Evan as he displayed how well and much he knew about his best friend, Violet. His doting care and concern came from such a heartfelt and genuine place that I couldn’t help but root for him as he finally realized and confronted his budding feelings for Violet. I wanted to reach into the book and scream, “she likes you too!!” haha

The portrayal of Violet’s chronic illness and how she undergoes its daily challenges was a powerful one for me that I feel is not represented enough in novels, particularly romance ones. Kandice did an amazing job taking us through both POVs but it is through Violet’s where we truly see the conflicting thoughts and the reasoning for some of the difficult decisions she has to make. Every decision has a consequence but in her case, an incredibly impactful one, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I thought it was so meaningful to see her thinking and better understand her as a character.

The 6 Step Plan was an awesome book to have read as an ARC. If you love a friends to lovers and slow burn/both pining for each other trope, check this one out!!

My review is entirely honest and voluntary.

First of all, Kandice writes the representation of chronic illness of Violet, our FMC, with incredible detail, accuracy and depth. I was throughly impressed: I, myself, suffer from a chronic illness and it was refreshing to read it with such devotion and compassion.

Violet suffers remarkably throughout her life but has a smile on her face and pushes through with determination. Especially when others have made her feel like a burden.

Enter Evan, our cinnamon roll. He was constantly taking care of Violet and ensuring she was safe, okay and loved. He was such a sweetheart and truly adores and loved Vi. He wanted her to know she was never and will never be a burden to him.

The 6 Step Plan was a great read and written with emotions, heartfelt feelings and dealt with the challenges of having a chronic illness.

I'm a sucker for Friends To Lovers, specially when there is Chronic illness in there too. I mean I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy but it's something I can relate to. Gives me hope for my own future.
These two were just the cutest 😍. Evan dotes on his best friend Violet. He is such a wonderful guy, he literally helps and takes care of all the members of his family. He doesn't see Violet more than friends until a certain incedent. That's when it hit him hard, Violet is his. So he devises a 6 step plan to make her his without ruining their friendship.
Violet is such a strong woman, despite how her condition leaves her feeling weak. Insecurities and not wanting to be a burden she tries not to always ask for help from Evan. She has always had feelings for him which she thought was unrequited.
But when Evan dotes on her and cares for her during flare ups, he actually makes me cry. At those times it feels so nice to have someone that understand and cares. He is alway mindful of her condition.
Oh it lived up to it's romcom. It will have you giggling like a kid.
I really enjoyed this page turner and following these two friends on the road to their HEA.
Great knowledge of chronic conditions, excellent story plot, family, friends, love and spice.

Violet and Evan have been best friends for over a decade. Violet fears wanting too much from the people in her life and feeling like a burden to those around her. Evan loves to help and fix problems for everyone. Slowly and all at once they are wanting more. Evan is up for a promotion and huge bonus they could help his family. Violet is finally pursuing her dream of becoming a writer. Their story unfolds beautifully around this and their time of friendship.

Violet fell first but Evan fell harder. Once he realized he was in love with her he created his 6-step plan to get Violet to fall in love with him. And fall in love they both do. But this story goes beyond best friends realizing they love each other. It’s about both of them realizing their flaws, challenges, and strengths together and apart. And determining what that means for them as a couple moving forward. I loved loved loved Evan and Violet together. Their story even if it started 2 weeks ago or 10 years ago is the stuff dating dreams are made of. Did Evan piss me off? You bet! Did I swoon a little when he realizes what he had said and done that hurt Violet in such a way and then went to fix it? Of course I did!

There is absolutely no way this is a debut book! It’s so well done. We need Lina and Remy’s stories please!

This story follows Violet and Evan. They have been best friends since college. Violet has always had feelings for Evan but over the years she has tapped down her feelings not thinking he reciprocated them. But one night accompanying him at a work gala wearing a stunning green dress Evan starts to see her in a different light. So he advises an 6 step plan to win her heart. Will the plan work??
This book! (Iloved everything about it!!
First off I can't believe how well I related to Violet. Violet has a chronic illness, lupus. As someone who suffers with chronic illness myself with having two different types of arthritis I feel Kandice did such a great job with the writing in this book going into the day to day details and struggles with chronic illness. I've never read a book I could relate to this much!
I seriously could not put this book down.
The banter was great. And when the spice hit it hit!! Evan and Violets story was just so sweet and swoon-worthy! (And I may or may not have cried about how sweet the epilogue was!) I highly recommend this book!!

4.5 stars for this debut novel.

I always appreciate when I see representation for the chronically ill community in romance novels and this book did a great job at accurately depicting the struggles of dating when a person has unpredictable health.

It's easy to feel like a burden, like you're destined to remain single because it's easier for all involved - because why would someone want to saddle themselves to a person who isn't able bodied and take on all that comes along with that?

I could relate to Violet's internal struggle and her internalized ableism. I really loved Evan as a character, as overbearing as he could be at times - we see into his childhood trauma and why he believed that his value to others was his usefulness.

I knew what the plot twist would be but I wasn't entirely sure how exactly it would play out. Violet's experience in Boston made me shed a few tears and it was well constructed.

Looking forward to seeing what else Kandice publishes in the coming years!

What happens when you have a 10 year friendship where you both secretly want each other?

This was such a cute story for Evan and Violet. I love how they had such a strong foundation of friendship first before it progressed into something more.

The growth between these two was amazing.

Aww this book gets you with all the feels! It’s sweet full of witty banter, pining, slow burn, heart warming and heart breaking! I could totally relate to Vi being someone who lives with a chronic illness and all the daily struggles. She is strong though and doesn’t let her stop it from going after what she wants. And then there is Evan he is such a sweetheart and swoon… so amazing even when he is being thick. But their love story is so beautiful and the ending ugh get a tissue box and gush!!! Simply perfect I hope someone makes it into a movie I would binge watch this I’m already ready for a reread!! Simply incredible and definitely worth reading!

🍂The 6-Step Plan by Kandace Hemenway • This is Evan and Violet’s journey of going from best friends to lovers, a favorite trope of mine. Their platonic friendship was believable and the build up to their first kiss was so sweet. I love a mutually pining couple! Violet has lupus so there’s a big focus on life with chronic illness. I don't live with a chronic illness, but this seemed like an authentic account of the struggles someone would face if living with a disease like lupus. Evan is such a sweet cinnamon roll and the standout character for me. The way he took care of Violet was just so sweet. There is some miscommunication towards the end which was disappointing especially given these two had such a solid foundation. Overall, this is an enjoyable rom com especially for fans of friends to lovers.

This debut novel was a wonderfully entertaining read. As a fellow chronic illness sufferer, I’m always thrilled to see an accurate representation in literature, and this one really hit home. And the friends-to-lovers trope is always a favorite of mine. This story contains plenty of witty banter, lots of emotion, and a plethora of possibilities for future connected storylines. The plot is very character-driven but written in a way you can’t help but continue turning the pages to see how these two written-in-the-stars lovers will figure out how to navigate the journey to HEA. There is also a fabulous cast of secondary characters I’m more than looking forward to learning more about as we see more from this debut author. It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited over a debut novel, and I am honestly excited to see what she brings next.

This was just a super cute, easy read about two friends who've been in love with each other for years but were never able to admit their feelings. When the line between just friends and something else blurs how do Viv and Evan navigate that mindfield

Evan and Viv are the sweetest and I'm super glad they got their happy ending after they'd both realised how much they needed each other. I liked that we had some hidden disability representation, though I'm not a member of that community I always appreciate how meaningful those things are to people affected that way.
