When looking into the abyss, be careful of who’s looking back…
When the lifeless body of a psychiatrist is uncovered in the heart of Edinburgh, the responsibility of unraveling this murder falls upon DCI Harry McNeil and his dedicated team. This well-respected professional had maintained a thriving private practice, commanding deep respect within his field. As they meticulously deconstruct the facets of the doctor's existence, they unearth a disconcerting revelation – not everyone held the esteemed psychiatrist in such high esteem. However, as a veil of silence shrouds potential witnesses, Harry faces an uphill battle in his quest to unravel the mystery behind the doctor's untimely demise. Will he ultimately piece together the puzzle and bring justice to the fallen doctor?
Meanwhile, DI Frank Miller returns to his job, only to find himself facing a grave accusation. He knows his life is in peril, with a relentless enemy determined to see him silenced. A single name holds the key to his salvation: a mysterious woman whose identity remains elusive. With time running out, Miller must uncover her identity or face a life on the run. Will he unearth the truth, or will he pay the ultimate price in his quest for redemption?
John Carson is the author of the DI Frank Miller detective series. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived there most of his life. In 2006, he emigrated to New York State with his American wife and two daughters. They now live in a small town in the Hudson Valley where his wife was brought up, with a German Shepherd, a Beagle mix and four cats.
Franks alone and drinking...but so many reveals in this book all my review would be a spoiler. Excellent book....is this the end of the series...it could be.
Phew! I've just finished this book and feel exhausted, which I'm sure poor Frank would be. This book concludes, and pulls together, both the Frank Miller and Harry McNeil sagas. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if my head is in a bit of a spin. I'm looking forward to the new series, but I will miss Harry and Frank, and all the other memorable characters, that have come to feel like old friends.
This book is a continuation of the last DCI Harry McNeil book and centers around the witness protection program and its use to protect a woman named Josephine from a gang leader she'll be testifying against in his trial. I didn't fine it as captivating as I usually do. Basically too many characters and disjointed. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the Harry McNeill mysteries as I'm not enjoying them the way I used to.
Last one of the DOC Harry McNeil books. I have not been able put any of them down. Everyone has kept me on the edge of my seat. As soon as I finished one I had to get the next one. I have now started to read the Miller serious but wish I had read it first. Maybe the author should suggest his book in otder. if someone is starting to read this great writer, it would be better to start at the beginning before moving on the the Harry McNeil ones
Took me a while to remember what happened in the last dci harry McNeil book but when I did it all fell into place and I certainly didn’t see the end coming can’t wait to start the brand new series on march 4th
Another great book, sorry this is the end. It brought everything from start to finish in all the adventures the team took. This series is a definite 5 star rating.
Left with a sense of deflation that this is the last book in the series but my goodness what a way to end it! All the loose ends tied up perfectly! Brilliant ending to a brilliant series!
Wow!! This book is amazing. I really liked the ending. I sincerely hope there are many more Harry McNeil and team books. And that means with all of our favorite team members! Beth P.
