Lovable loner Casey Isaac thinks love isn’t for him. Not since extraordinary events left him with supernormal powers and a great deal of trauma. But when Oscar Kenzari looks at him, he can’t help but change his mind. As Divinators, Casey and Oscar have used their psychic powers to defend humanity from sentient, extradimensional storms for one hundred years. But a storm more powerful than any before is brewing. MaalenKun, prince of the maelstrom, conqueror of countless realities, plans to turn the tables by infecting Casey’s mind. MaalenKun is not the only threat. Casey and Oscar must determine who they can the eccentric trillionaire keeping them in the dark, the independent contractors with secrets of their own, or a seemingly helpful extradimensional being shrouded in mystery. As Casey works to defeat threats around and within himself, he must open to love for his chosen family, for Oscar, and for himself to unlock a transformative power capable of banishing MaalenKun. And Oscar must make a difficult choice that could cost him the future he dreams of. Can Casey and Oscar’s love break the storm?
This book was so much fun! It truly was such an entertaining queer science fiction read that really brought the spice. The universe Sims created with this book is magical and fun. Also, I'm a sucker for a found family storyline, and this book definitely delivered that. I think that Sims really created something truly special that people need to experience. I felt immersed in this world from the very first sentence. If you enjoy queer science fiction, you should definitely check it out!
This book has a great aura! From the characters to the setting to the sci-fi, I (queer)loved this book at first read. The space action grabs your attention, but once you get to know the characters, it’s the heart of this novel that won’t let you go.
This one took me a long time to read, but let me explain. First off, I don't read a lot of science fiction, so I struggled with terms both fictional and earthly. I needed to relax my reading mind into not trying too hard to figure out things that would make sense later or sometimes to simply cozy up into knowing I didn't need to know the "how" of certain non-realities. This novel wasn't just a sci-fi read, tho. There were also metaphysic, therapeutic, psychic, and many other "-ic" terms that had me continually pulling up google. Yes, I expanded my vocabulary, but this was very time-consuming. I also had to start over right around 100 pages in because I had missed that the narrator of the chapters had switched back and forth. Quite a forehead smack for me as I was very confused in this already forgein to me genre. All that being said, the meat of this queer space odyssey is an exciting quest to save humanity, a sweet lovestory and a reminder of how sacred and important the unity of Queer folk, along with our allies, is for us all. As I steep in the glow of just now finishing this first volume, I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy. Especially now that I have learned how to read this unique genre.
I had the pleasure of having T.Q. Sims on my Ivory Tower Boiler Room podcast where we recapped and talked about how "Queer as Folk" resonates nowadays. One scene reminded me of what makes T.Q.'s "Godspeed, Lovers" such an enjoyable read. Emmett begins to imagine finding different guys to hook up with in the cyberworld, and interestingly, T.Q. provides such an enthralling depiction of sci-fi romance when his protagonist Casey Isaac begins to fall for fellow psychic Oscar Kenzari! If you're a queer sci-fi fiction lover, you need to get your hands on T.Q.'s book. I absolutely love how romance enters the scene in this novel via psychic and supernatural powers.
I read this last year and I loved it. Im waiting for the sequel to arrive and I am looking forward to diving into the story again. Great science fiction and romance.
"I wanted an exciting story about Queer superheroes who weren’t incidentally Queer… so I wrote Godspeed, Lovers. An aspect of these heroes' powers is drawn from their Queer experience. I’m excited to continue their story through The Lovers Trilogy. Book 1:Godspeed, Lovers is a sci-fi romance with an element of spirituality. It’s a story about post-traumatic growth through love—of community, of a lover, and of oneself. Its also got sentient storms, psychics falling in love, super-powered sex, an evil corporation, and a lot of found family love. It’s my wish that readers see a bit of themselves in these characters, break through their own stormy skies, and hold fast to love." --TQ
Thoroughly enjoying Godspeed, Lovers We need more genre bending queer sci-fi and I love the way this author writes. Almost done this book and highly recommend it if you want some sweet, romantic, queer sci-fi that's a bit 🌶️, and also dramatic, adventurous and action packed with plenty of twists and turns.
Tq manages to blend in a unique spirituality to this science fiction story, as well as a beautiful take on romance, especially within the masc. heart which is needed more in conventional storytelling. I could get the sense as I read this story that Tq has known love, and heartbreak and joy and sadness.
Pick yourself up a copy of this book and you'll enjoy how it takes you away into the hearts and minds of these characters.
This was such a fun read, if you love sci fi romance this one is for you, the chemistry between Casey and Oscar is so palpable and their love is so pure, it was really great watching them falling in love and having really sexy times. I’ve read a lot of sci fi books lately and this is one definitely stands out. I’m such a sucker for found family and Sims definitely made me tear up a little bit.
This book is so relatable for so many reasons. I loved reading about Casey, the main character who has intense trauma from the past and uses the support network of his team to work with it and move past it. The villain in the story is really self-doubt and negative. Internal thoughts personified in the unlit. The gay romance between Oscar and Casey is meaningful, sweet and what everyone wants in an LTR. I'm not done the book yet, but I am so excited to read these last 100 pages!
