Rediscovering love and brewing second chances, will Roni risk her heart all over again, especially at Christmas, when the one who got away returns to town to work at a rival coffee shop?
"What if Roni's first love, the one who got away, returned just in time for Christmas? Would she dare to risk her heart once more, especially during the most magical time of the year? As the proud owner of Coffee Corner in Pineville, Roni is determined to carry on her grandmother's legacy of creating the town's most beloved coffee haven—a place where people don't just grab a cup and go, but linger and savor the warmth.
But when a new coffee shop, devoid of Christmas spirit, threatens to jeopardize her dream, Roni's world is turned upside down. To her dismay, the man behind this rival cafe is none other than Jimmy, her first love who once broke her heart. After reconnecting online, she’d hoped someday he'd return, that they'd have a chance at love again. Yet, this homecoming is far from the joyful reunion she'd envisioned; it's a battle for more than just her coffee shop—it's a war of the heart."

Saving Christmas is the seventh book in A Pineville Christmas series by Cynthia Cooke. I’ve said previously in my reviews of the other books in this series that they read just like a Hallmark series in my head. I have fallen in love with this little town of Pineville. The characters throughout the series have developed friendships that have lasted their entire lives. When there is a need, they all get together and figure out how to solve it.
Roni Jones is the owner of Coffee Corner, the coffee shop in downtown Pineville. It was originally owned by her grandmother. Now that she is gone, Roni owns and runs it and she sees it as an honor to continue her grandmother’s legacy. Only business has been dropping off lately and she has a suspicion why. There is a rival coffee shop down on the riverwalk and they are pulling away all the customers.
Jimmy Duarte grew up in Pineville and his parents still live there. He and Roni were high school sweethearts. But when he went away to college, Roni was supposed to go with him but ended up having to stay in Pineville when her grandmother passed and she was needed to help with the coffee shop.
A year ago, Jimmy had been thinking about Roni more than usual and after nine years, called her. Over the past year, they had been keeping in touch. Roni had been dreaming of the possibility that Jimmy might come home to Pineville but he never committed to it. After a year of phone calls and hoping, she is convinced it was all a pipe dream and she needed to give up hope. Only to look up and see Jimmy in her shop.
Jimmy’s dad was ill and he needed to come home to help with the coffee shop his parents owned. Jimmy is an artist and lives in Denver but the gallery that shows his art wants something more commercial from him, something he’s not willing to do. He was needed at home and the timing was perfect. He should have told Roni but he just wasn’t sure what his future looked like. When Roni showed up at his parent’s coffee shop and realized he was working at her rival shop, she was not happy. So many things he should have perhaps mentioned.
These two were in love when they were kids but broke each other’s hearts. Now as adults, they need to find out if they still have that same connection. And Jimmy needs to decide where he belongs. In Denver, or here in Pineville where his parents are, where all his friends are, and most importantly, where Roni is. And, if she still has a place for him in her heart.
Once again, we see two characters who are meant for each other but have to figure out if their futures have a place for each other. And once again we see the power of friendship, even if you’ve been away for ten years. Over the seven books in this series, I have loved getting to know all of these characters and watching them fall in love. This is such a wonderful series.
In Saving Christmas ~ A Pineville Christmas ~ Book 7, by Cynthia Cooke, author is a novella about Roni, the owner of a small traditional coffee shop and Jimmy, her high school sweetheart that left her for college and never came back.
About a year ago he called her at Christmas time and they started talking and texting. Now he is back but not sure what he wants, to stay in Denver to continue as an artist or return to Pineville and come back to Roni. Lots of ups and downs for these two until he figures out what he wants. Interesting plot showing community, friendship and a troubled romance.
While it felt a little hokey overall, the storyline certainly had its moments; the characters were pretty shallow; the plot was good though; and the HEA really wrapped the story in all the good feels making it a pretty darn good read. It’s a great Christmas tale that belongs on everyone’s TBR. Grab a copy today. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and found it pretty good for a Christmas read.) ❤️
This story about a coffee shop owner trying to save the small businesses of their little town. Toss in some old flames, AND BAM!! Christmas love story. Jimmy and Spooky really steal the show.
