February unleashes a whirlwind of surprises in the charming town of Button, Washington. While Lou preps the bookshop for another Valentine’s Day, Willow has her hands full with the needy new renters next door who seem to be experts in conjuring up problems from thin air. Just when she's convinced they're master manipulators, a chilling phone call shatters Willow's skepticism – a lifeless body has been discovered in their very own backyard.
The dilemma deepens as the current tenants, already teetering on the brink of moving out, demand immediate attention. The twist? The deceased was none other than a prospective tenant Willow and Easton had recently turned away, their instincts screaming that he was the wrong kind of neighbor. But it turns out that he was the one in trouble, not the other way around. As connections between Easton, Willow, and the deceased continue to add up, Lou and Noah jump in to help their friends. What should have been a season dedicated to love becomes veiled in mystery and deception, with each step leading them further into danger.
Dear reader, if you love rescue cats, goats who wear pajamas, and a cozy bookstore, you’re going to love this series by Eryn Scott. Hold on to your hats. The town of Button is as cute as they come, but that doesn’t mean it’s free of murder. These books are clean with no foul language or gore. Each book and mystery stands alone. Curl up under a cozy blanket, cuddle with a cat (or two), and come join Lou as she solves mysteries in the town of Button.
Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.
She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?
Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

Twists and turns will make the reader dizzy in this curious mystery involving a mish-mash of tenants and Willow’s strangled cry of horror as she peered past a goat in the barn to see a bloody dead stranger, later identified as gang member Tyson Krate with a Cobra tattoo on his arm, lying on the floor with a knife sticking out of his chest! Was he one of the new renters who were causing her numerous problems earlier? The murder predictably stirs up the other tenants even more, and they demand answers! Apparently the stranger was the “prospective” tenant earlier whom Willow and Easton had turned away. They had thought he looked like “trouble”, but was he seeking help from them? However, Officer Reynolds held up a piece of paper he had taken from the dead man’s pocket that shown the victim had been tracking their movements for at least 3 weeks – but why? Can Lou and Noah join their friends to find the killer? Will they discover what is going on here?
As Valentine’s Day approaches in Button, all is not hearts and flowers. George is trying to get over her feelings for Wesley, Willow & Easton are dealing with dramatic and difficult tenants, Noah is having landlord issues, and Wesley brings a bad tempered cat to Lou’s bookstore. The Girls’ night out is interrupted when Willow receives a call from the tenants complaining that her horse and goat are making too much noise. Arriving at the barn, they find a man stabbed to death, one who Willow & Easton got a bad feeling from when he tried to rent from them. A paper found on him shows that he’d been stalking them and recording their movements, but why, and who killed him? Further evidence links him to the leader of a car theft ring that Easton sent to prison, and is up for parole. With Easton’s & Willow’s safety on the line, the team must figure out the other members of the gang, who are only known by code names. Can Lou’s new passion for logic puzzles be the key to sorting the clues?
This fast paced mystery is full of twists and turns as Lou and her friends try to piece together the clues. The anonymity of the suspects lends to the tension as they race against time. Fans of logic puzzles will enjoy how Eryn Scott uses them to assist her characters. Newcomers to this puzzle form are given enough of a tutorial to play along. And as Lou finds out, assumptions made on incomplete information can lead to catastrophic mistakes. As Lou receives cryptic help from one of the former gang members already in jail, you may find yourself feeling empathy for him. The sweet love story between the ill tempered cat and another stray are the icing on the cake.

I think this is the best book I have read by this author ever. I loved the logic puzzle concept for solving the mystery, truly brilliant! Highly recommend. Must read.
It is the week before Valentine's Day and Lou is working on her displays for the bookstore. Willow and George are helping wrap books for the Blind Date for Valentine's Day display when Willow received several texts from her problematic renters. The ladies go to investigate the issue only to find a man stabbed in the barn. Turns out the man is Tyson Keats who wanted to rent Easton's home but his manner creeped out Willow and Easton. The police find a paper on the body with their daily schedules which leads Easton to think he is being stalked by a hit man to keep from preventing Chevelle from being paroled. Chevelle is the leader of the Muscle Car Mafia which stole cars to resell it strip for parts. Lou, Willow and Easton work on finding the hit man before the court date next week. Lou decides to use a logic puzzle to help in their investigation which leads her to visiting one of the gang members in prison. Fritz agrees to help Lou if she goes to check on his mother. The story culminates in a terrifying car chase before the bad guy is caught.

Lou,Willow and the rest of the group live in Button, Washington . They are wrapping books for a couple of tables for Valentine's day. Willow is telling them about their renters when her cells buzzes. She ignores it. After the third time she answers and rushes to her home. When she goes into the barn she checks her goat and horse then sees a body with a knife sticking out of it. She calls her boyfriend, Easton, who's a detective. They find information in the pocket of the dead man which makes them all antsy. It seems he and Willow have been followed and having their movements written down. It seems the boss of a group of men who stole cars about five or so years ago may have a hit on him and possibly Willow. Now the hunt is on and Lou has a new skill that may help them find the who, what, and the why. Will the clues be in time to save their friends? A fascinating story with the puzzle box. That one got my head aching but I'm not one for puzzles. But it was fun to see how it's used!.

I grew up doing logic puzzles, so it was obvious I was going to be a big fan of mystery books and especially cozy's. This makes this book a must read for me, actually any book written by this author is. She combines mystery, loveable animals, characters you care about and in this book puzzles to entertain and delight her readers and I just loved it. The mystery was unusual with knowing how many people were involved and a little bit about them but not who they were. Some were obvious but the author still managed to surprise me with a few twists. I love reading about all the new cats that make there way to the book shop. With the cats and characters it's like meeting up with old friends every time I pick up a book in this series and I can't wait for the next visit. Things get personal for Louisa and her friends when a man Easton put behind bars is up for parole. The rest of his gang wants to make sure he gets out and the best way is to take out the policeman who put him in jail and stopped his last attempt at parole. The problem is nobody knows who was in the gang, not even the gang members, all they know is there nicknames. Can Lou and her friends find the members before somebody gets hurt? When a body is discovered in Willow's barn they know at least one of the car thieves is a killer. I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I love Eryn Scott's cozy mysteries so much! They have such cute small town settings, great friend groups, and a touch of romance.
In this case it's almost Valentine's Day in Button, and the mystery begins after Lou's friend Willow has issues with some renters. When they, and another friend, find a dead body there is another mystery for Lou to solve. I love Lou and Willow's friendship so much, and it was nice to see them work together to figure out what was going on.
I liked the puzzle aspect quite a bit and the mystery of whodunnit kept me guessing as I read. This is one of my favorites in the series and I can't wait to see what's next for Lou and the gang!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This series of books are fun cozy murder mysteries set in small town of Button which the main character of Lou who owns a bookstore and has a fondness for cats who wander the shop and part of the surroundings. The ensemble of main characters, regular customers, murder suspects and the setting make these books fun with clean cozy and intriguing murder mysteries. It helps to know the background from other books, but the murder mystery element is different with each book and has you guessing most of the way through. This time around Lou and Eryn create a fun and good introduction into the world of logic puzzles. Always a nice read, fun, enjoyable characters and interactions and like how the main characters' backstory is moved along around the murders.

A Bad Feline is Book 9 in A Whiskers and Words Mystery by Erin Scott. It's close to Valentine's Day and love is in the air. Willow and Easton are going to share Willow's farm house which means Easton needs yo rent out his house next door. I found it romantic until a dead body turns up in Willow's backyard! I thought that the author did a wonderful job with this mystery. The suspects have code names with clues and Lou nd het friends try to help the police while trying to stay alive. I found surprises and twist while trying to figure out who the killer was. When a second person was murdered, everything got really crazy. I loved the surprise ending... it was perfect. I can't wait to read book 10, Dangerous Infurmation.

The idea of using a logic puzzle grid to help solve the mystery was OK, but I hope it was a one off. The writer committed one of the cardinal sins of mystery writing. The murderer is supposed to be somebody who is known to the reader from earlier in the book. Unfortunately, even though it did indeed turn out to be one of the car thief mafia members, it was not somebody we had ever seen before. I felt really cheated by that reveal. I was also disappointed that there was no mention of any animal adoptions. Even worse, she's leaving her apartment above the bookstore—thereby abandoning the cats at night—to move in with her boyfriend. NO! NO! NO! SHE DOES NOT NEED TO MOVE. I hate it when authors move their strong female characters out of their homes to move in with a boyfriend or new husband.

This one is a puzzler, pun intended lol. You’ll understand once you read through. It’s really quite fun if you pretend there’s no danger to Lou’s friends Willow and Easton. I especially loved the graphics and the explanations as those logic puzzles have always given me fits, but I’m inspired to try anew now! What a wonderfully clever story and an exciting read. I absolutely loved that ending!!.

Lou is trying to get her bookstore ready for Valentine's Day. Even though she lives in the small town of Button, Washington, it's still a busy time. Her friend Willow has her nursery business, but what is taking up more of her time is some really demanding tenants at a place she and town law enforcement officer Easton own.
These tenants are truly helpless and the slightest things brings an urgent phone call. One phone call is truly necessary when a body is found in the backyard. It's a man that was turned down as a tenant because he seemed exceptionally creepy and off.
Of course, Lou is pulled into helping with the murder investigation. There are lots of twists and turns with a satisfying ending.
This is the ninth novel in the Whiskers and Words series, but if you are new to the series there won't be any trouble with following along. I like the way author Eryn Scott makes this possible in this and her other series.
As a cat lover I love Lou rescuing cats and giving them a home in her bookstore. In this story she ends up with two new felines. The title is mentioned when a very seemingly mean male cat is brought into the mix. As with her other cats, she gives this difficult one the name Fitzwilliam Clawrcy.
There is some romance mixed into the plot. That isn't the main thread. The tale is more about compassion and caring between friends and animals. Noah is one of my favorite characters. He's a veterinarian so is truly in sync with all of Lou's menagerie.
I highly recommend this novel and the other in the series as well as Eryn Scott's other books. They are entertaining and engaging. Cozy mysteries are my favorite genre and Eryn Scott is a go to for me.
Awww... now Lou is trying solve a mystery which the target is her best friend's boyfriend, Easton who is a Detective. The string of murder to be solve and Lou found a great way to find out who was the murderer which is using logic puzzles like the ones that we play in Cluedo. The head of the gang was caught and before he is let go, his lemmings are trying their best to get Easton killed because he was the one who caught him. And worst one of the member was killed and was at Easton & Willow's place.
Both Willow and Easton were struggling with their newly found neighbours who rented Easton's place. Their complaints of every little thing and they have to go and fix it. And Willow is tired and also afraid for Easton's safety too and Easton is also worried about Willow's safety too because he is the target now.
With the help of Lou, Noah, George and Wesley, they find as many clues as they can. And can't spoil too much of the case but there are twist and turns around the case. And also two new found felines to adopt and they seemed to love each other so much. George still can't stop thinking about Wesley and Wesley seemed to have feelings for her as well. Oh these two... someone needs to help with their relationship.

I loved being back in the small town of Button with Lou, Willow and co for the latest instalment in the Whiskers and Words series. This one starts with a man being found dead in Willow's barn, so the crew, including Willow's partner, policeman Easton, are soon on the case.
They discover that the man was part of the Muscle Mafia group, who are notorious for stealing cars in the area. Lou has discovered logic puzzles and devises one to help the team identify the members of the group. It's very interesting how the information leads them to come up with ideas about who the various members are.
Along with local vet and new boyfriend, Noah, Lou is also busy taking in more stray cats to be adopted from her charming bookshop, Whiskers and Words. They also become involved with helping out the mother of one of the gang members who is already behind bars, which leads to clues being passed on via the mother, from the son in prison.
The mystery is eventually solved but there is an anxious time when one of the friends is kidnapped by the gang members.
Another enjoyable, cozy mysery from one of my favorite authors of the genre.
Welcome to Button, a small, charming town where everybody knows almost everyone else in town. The main character, Louisa, owns and operates the local bookstore where her foster cats are allowed to roam and choose their new human to adopt. In addition to the amusing scenarios resulting from her feline friends, Lou and her best friend, Willow, along with their significant others, always seem to find unwanted trouble. Valentine’s surprises, troublesome tenants, mysterious murders, and fallout from crimes that happened several years back are just a few of the mysteries in this book. Even the felines are feeling the Valentine’s Day love. Although part of a series, this book can easily be read as a standalone. The author is particularly good at providing backstories of the characters just in case you haven’t read the previous books in the series. The story and mysteries held my interest from start to finish, and I found the characters captivating. I most definitely recommend this book.
This cozy murder mystery is action packed and intellectually stimulating with a whole array of familiar characters as well as the schemers both hidden in plain sight as well as in the unknown. The plot will have you captivated from the first chapter and hold you tight with its drama and the allure of lies, secrets , betrayals and more intrigue to unfold along with the coming of more cats to befriend. Talking about friends their's a new found friend while digging through short but vital clues from an unexpected source. This is a cozy mystery you certainly won't want to miss and unable to stop reading once you start until you've reached its unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " A Bad Feline " today so that you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat.

I'm obsessed with this series! I discovered it earlier this year and I've almost caught up with the series. The characters are complex and diverse, and so well written. I love their relationships with each other and the supportive community they live in. Button sounds like such an idyllic place to live. And also the map included is such a wonderful addition to the book because I can see where everything is located.
This book took an influence from logic puzzles, which I adore! It had pictured of said logic puzzles to explain how they work. It was such a fun piece to this story. This was such an interesting story, again, with a different twist. I enjoy that these books are all well thought out and don't follow a "formula" as I sometimes see with other series. The ending was adorable. I was so excited!
I had not read any of the other books in this series but I felt I followed along just fine with this book. So I imagine it's ok as a standalone but would (obviously) be better in the series. I will definitely go back and start with book #1. I really enjoyed the storyline, very different in how the murder was solved. I love the cats, can't go wrong with an animal in the story! To make it even better, the bookstore is awesome. Lots of twists and turns until finally the crew figures out the mystery/murder. I would definitely recommend this book and would assume since I enjoyed the writing so much, that I will like the series just as much and recommend the whole series!.

This is the ninth book in the Whiskers and Words cosy mysteries series.
I loved the last book that I read from this series, and I did love this one too. Quirky, lighthearted, fun, and everything about it made me smile. Valentine's Day was a theme in the story, so it's a good choice for a February read. It's also an ideal book for puzzle lovers, and if you read it, you will probably see what I mean.
Given that a lot of the feline characters are named after classic authors or book characters, this is perfect for book lovers and cat people.
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for a free copy to review.

I love cozy mysteries and normally only start with the first book in the series but this one caught my eye with it's Valentine's Day theme. I'd just received a Galentine's Day card from my best friend and was delighted when the book started out with a Galentine's girls night. It just got better from there. The characters were quirky and endearing. The mystery was unusual with Lou using logic puzzles to figure out the killer. Now I want to try logic puzzles! I admit I was close in guessing the killer but got it wrong despite all the clues. The book was satisfying as a stand alone but I can't wait to restart the series with the first book to get to know the characters and back story. I'm so glad I didn't pass it by just because it was book 9 in the series.
Willow has a lot going on for Valentine’s Day in A Bad Feline, the newest book in the Whiskers and Words mystery series. Unfortunately, her day takes a turn for the worse when she gets a call that makes her rush home. When she finds a man stabbed to death in her barn, she calls her detective boyfriend Easton. It turns out that a gang of men who have a habit of stealing vehicles may have put a hit out on Easton and Willow. Willow, Easton, Lou, and the team decide to find the men and discern whether they are responsible for the murder at Willow’s home. Once again Eryn has crafted a first rate mystery that I enjoyed immensely. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

I've read the entire Button series, and I have really enjoyed it all. I especially enjoyed this book. I loved everything about it, including the new cats. One cat hates people (or is very misunderstood), and the other is a sweetheart who calms the most wild beast with her sweetness and her loving attitude (after all, it is Valentines Day). Even the cats are in love. The only thing that's casting a dark pall over the upcoming day of love is the fact that someone, or make that several someones, wants to eliminate Easton within the next few days. They know who's paying for the hit on Easton and why; now they just have to figure out the rest of the players before Willow and Easton have the worst Valentines Day ever.
A Bad Feline is a terrific read. It is the latest book in the ‘ Whiskers and Words Mystery’ series; however it is also a stand-alone cosy mystery.
This is a welcome return to the small town of Button, which really is as cute as a button and the residents are mostly wonderful. Although this can be read as a stand alone there are recurring characters and spoilers about other relationships if you have not read all the previous books. If this is your first book in this series then it really is a great book with so many wonderful characters and a fabulous mystery that is not too predictable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to all fans of this genre and anyone who just wants a good book with heart.
This is a really good cosy mystery series, set in a bookshop that has cats wandering around, some of whom need homes. Louisa runs the shop, and her boyfriend Noah is a veterinarian.
In this book, her best friend, Willow, has just had her boyfriend Easton move in. He is a police detective, and his life is being threatened by someone in jail who is coming up for parole. Add to that problems with the renters he let his house to (which happens to be next to Willow's), and this is a busy book.
The books in this series are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.
I really enjoyed reading this book and can not wait to read the next release.
Willow isn't thrilled with being a landlord, even less so when the new tenants call to let her know there's a dead body in her barn. Meanwhile, in preparation for Valentine's Day, Lou has been creating logic puzzles, and she realizes that these handy grids may be just the thing she needs to solve this latest murder. She doesn't expect to face off against a local organized crime gang, but if she doesn't get her clues straight, her best friends may be in trouble.
This is a little bit of a weird one since we don't really get to meet all the suspects, but I thought it was fun to include the logic puzzles, and the cats are always my favorite.
This mystery was intense! Easton being a target made it more personal for Lou. Loved how she used a logic puzzle (similar to the Clue game) for narrowing down suspects. I suspected who the criminal(s) were way before Lou, but it was still fun to see it all play out. Kidnapping, murder, car crashes, multiple suspects & new cats! Lots going on, lots of tiny important connections, and moments of love and human kindness. Absolutely love this new book and can't wait for more 😍
A Bad Feline by Eryn Scott ⭐️ 3/5 This cozy mystery was a delightful palate cleanser between heavier reads! I’ve been following this series for a while and have completely fallen in love with the characters—especially the cats (because let’s be honest, they steal the show). A bookshop owner solving crimes? Absolutely yes! While it wasn’t my favorite in the series, it’s still a charming, lighthearted read that’s perfect for avoiding a reading slump. If you love cozy mysteries with feline sidekicks and small-town charm, this one’s worth picking up! 🐾📚✨
Another Valentine's Day in a bookstore with all the unique decorations. Everything was going well, until the new neighbors conjure up some problems for the ton and neighboring shops. As one tenant is preparing to leave a new one is coming in. Or so we thought. The cat is so adorable and so helpful. But who killed the new tenant?.

Leave it to this author to come up with a fun way to solve a murder mystery. I loved that little twist as Willow tries to figure out whodunit with the help of her loyal friends. The cats added their usual charm. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone.
