Things might be going well enough, but I couldn’t see much to look forward to. Sure, I somehow had a thriving business repairing and rebinding books, and my parents had gifted me their vacation house after my apartment was turned into a co-op. Still, there wasn’t a whole lot of action and excitement in little Arrowbridge, Maine, but I was making the best of it, like I always did. Just me and my guinea pigs, Gomez and Morticia, taking on the world. Then a tree falls in my yard, barely missing the house and my car. My kind neighbor recommends a local arborist, but when Shae Wentworth shows up, I don’t quite know what to make of her. Not only is she physically intimidating, with her ripped arms from her wood-chopping hobby, she’s surprisingly well-read and funny, once she opens up a little. I’m addicted to spending time with her, and it’s unsettling, to say the least. Shae has somehow unlocked something I thought I buried deep down, but I’m at a point where I can no longer ignore the way I feel. One night, after a few too many glasses of wine at book club, she gives me a ride and I make her a wild proposition: teach me how to date women. For some reason, she agrees, and I’ve got myself an incredibly sexy sapphic dating tutor. There’s just the small problem of me completely falling for her and wishing Shae was my girlfriend instead.
Chelsea M. Cameron is a New York Times/USA Today/Internationally Best Selling author from Maine who now lives and works in Boston. She's a red velvet cake enthusiast, obsessive tea drinker, former cheerleader, and world's worst video gamer. When not writing, she enjoys watching infomercials, eating brunch in bed, tweeting, and playing fetch with her cat, Sassenach. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Maine, Orono that she promptly abandoned to write about the people in her own head. More often than not, these people turn out to be just as weird as she is.
Leighton comes to her family's vacation house in Arrowbridge because her apartment is being changed into a condo, and she can't afford it. Not there long, a thunderstorm rolls through and a huge tree comes down near her house. She calls arborist Shae to come and cut up the tree. When Leighton meets Shae, she rethinks being straight. Shae is gorgeous. This is a beautiful story about girl meets girl and falls in love! Book 9 of this wonderful series! 5 stars!
I liked this novel. It took some directions I was not expecting and gave me a few surprises, which I always enjoy. I liked the characters a lot and felt like we got to know the protagonist more than in some of the other novels in this series. There was some great character development from our narrator, and it was nice to get some glimpses of the past characters around town (although not enough!).
This novel was a little lacking on details and depth, which counts against it a bit. I think if this novel (like the previous ones) took another 50 to 100 pages to add some extra detail and depth then it would be on track for being an A+ novel, but as it is it was a perfectly enjoyable “B”. The ending was abrupt and I felt like it should have only been the midpoint of the novel in all honesty.
I have said this about most novels in the series: I enjoyed what was on the page and have very few things to complain about, except for wishing that there was more to it.
Shae and Leighton were two characters I loved from what they did for a living to how sweet they were with each other as they got to know one another. I look forward to the next book.
When Leighton meets and spends time with kind and sexy lumberjane Shea, she has a startling sapphic awakening. Convinced that Shea will never see her as the girlfriend type, Leighton instead enlists her help as a dating tutor, but what happens when her heart wants the real thing instead of lessons?
Enthralled by Her is a funny and hopelessly endearing story about coming out and coming into yourself with the help of the right person. Leighton’s journey to sapphic self-discovery is so authentic, sweet, and doubtless relatable to anyone who has taken a few extra years to figure themselves out. The connection that sparks between her and Shea is equal parts adorable and hot, and waiting for them to figure it out is entertaining if mildly frustrating. As with all the Mainely Books Club stories, the Arrowbridge community sparkles in the background, fostering a safe and happy space for the main characters to thrive.
This is the ninth book in the series, and, quite possibly, the cutest. It can be read as a standalone, but it will definitely want to make you meet all the characters from the previous books too.
Enthralled by Her is a cozy, low angst, addition to the Mainely Books Club series. This entry combines ax wielding arborist/singer Shae with book cover artisan Leighton. Leighton’s proposed practice dating for the newly out lesbian scheme quickly segues into something serious as they become better acquainted. This is an enjoyable read complete with the expected HEA and several cameo appearances by characters the reader may remember from earlier volumes.
Yet another amazing instalment of the Mainely Books Book Club series. Both main characters are fun and the side characters just add in more humour. We once again get to catch up with previous characters which I love about these books/author. Loved this story and I can’t wait for the next one, as usual.
This is a cute story, of coming out, thinking you’re not worthy of someone else’s love, and then discovering that you really are. It’s a light fun read, that makes you smile, laugh, and cheer for the MCs when the moment is right.
Enjoy this book after you’ve read something darker, more difficult in tone. It will brighten your day.
Leighton has new to town when a storm fells a tree in her yard barely missing the house and car. The arborist, Shea, is a beautiful woman and starts strong feelings throughout Leighton’s mind and body. A wonderful sapphic romance by a favourite author.
Another great read by Chelsea M. Cameron I loved the coming out aspect of this one and the journey we went through with the character. I enjoy the way that Cameron ties their series characters together and the book club aspect of it makes me wish I could attend something similar.
Nobody had trauma or anything. They were just generally well adjusted people with nice families who were dealing with being quintessentially oblivious lesbians while accidentally flirting a lot. It was brilliant and exactly what I wanted to spend my afternoon immersing myself in.
This series just keeps getting better. I absolutely loved Leighton & Shae's story. It's a sweet but sexy read, and once I'd started it, I couldn't put it down. I really have loved every book so far.
Sappy but interesting tangling of personalities. With each book I read, I extend my knowledge about new professions and personalities. I love this part of reading the most.
By now I am not surprised that a Chelsea Cameron book won’t be great and I’m not disappointed!! This slow burn coming out book is sweet as ever. We hear a little bit from the rest of the ladies too. I can’t wait to read the next one. Enjoy!!
