My sanity abandoned me the day I was taken by the Camorra.
After three years of torture, tonight is my last chance to be auctioned alive. It’s either that or being sold in parts…
Then, beyond my wildest nightmares, someone buys what little is left of me.
His name is Massimo and he is way too attractive for my own good. I am prey to the most handsome of predators.
He says we’re engaged now, that I am to be his wife, and that he expects me to bear his children to carry on his legacy in Cosa Nostra. But his whole family wants me dead.
I am not who he thinks I am. And I only have this one chance to run, before he finds out.
He barged into my broken heart and loved me where I was most ruined.
*If you are a good girl dreaming of a knight in shining armor, then step away from this novel! If you fantasize about hot, wildly sexy alpha males, then this one's for you! My heroes are dangerous, dark, and demanding—an HEA guaranteed with no cheating but lots of pain and pleasure. You have been warned! Proceed at your own risk…
As a teenager, Faye used to read at night with a flashlight underneath her bed covers. She fantasized of bad boys who stopped at nothing to capture the hearts and bodies of their women, and of equally strong heroines. Make no mistake, there are no damsels in distress in her world.
Her addiction is the “enemies to lovers” trope, and maybe that’s why when she first met her husband, their chemistry was just as sizzling as their disapproval of each other. But as in her novels, passion won, and now they live through their happily ever after.
By day, she is taking care of her household. By night, her shadow self emerges to satisfy her undisclosed desires. Literary and not.
I was asked to give a fair appraisal of this book as a member of the ARC team.
The story did an excellent job in taking a deep dive into the world of "sex slaves". Many authors try to make this deplorable treatment of another human being something it isn't. It's a horrific act (even fictional) that can leave a woman or child a ghost of who they use to be. Alejandra's character is an example of how a victim may be impacted by constant sexual and mental abuse by their captors. The first half of the book was difficult at times to get through because of the degree of humiliation and physical abuse she endured for three years and how it had damaged her mind. When Massimo finds her she is on the brink of giving up and just wants to die which one can only surmise happens frequently to these victims.
He purchases her from a sex auction (which he normally detests) in order to fill a need, a wife so he is not forced to marry Viktoria; who his family and hers is forcing him to marry. Alexandra is basically a starved/mute when he brings her back to his home and enlists Maria to begin her transformation or what he believes to be a transformation. The story ensues with Massimo trying to get her trust as she is forced to work with a team of experts who frantically try to turn her into the woman he needs when she must meet his family. His family is awful accept his mother who is a lovely character in this book. They drive the knife further into Alejandra's heart with their ugly words and actions. They come around by books' end but weren't characters I cared for.
The Gala is disaster for Massimo and Alejandra as she tries to fight back hoping he will let her go by acting out and making a fool of herself. The story has many layers with the second half of the book more focused on Massimo and Alejandra and how they must fight to survive the Tsunami which is taking place between them and in the book. Their love story is a slow burn, but is expected considering Alexandra's background.
I enjoyed both Alejandra's and Massimo's character as well as Claudio's who really added humor to what was somewhat of a dark read.
My only negative in this book was the editing which can be easily fixed, but needs to be addressed in the future.
Why read dark romance? This book is an example of why dark romance is so addictive. Watching the main characters go through serious trauma, watch them build back up through love and romance, watch them obtain vengeance on the strength of love, watching the cruel dismissive MMC discover his sanctuary through love is a powerful concoction. Stay. Please when it came was the sweetest, smexiest moment and it was all achieved in 2 words.
What worked well? 👌🏾 the romance build-up was stunning and beautiful.
👌🏾 the internal and external conflicts were pitch-perfect
👌🏾 good side characters
👌🏾 believable backdrop
👌🏾 convincing dark tropes like smex traff!ck!ng, smex sl@very, and healing from SA
👌🏾 the smexual k!nks were hot, and great scene work was done. The CNC made sense in the context of the story. The steam was building, and the smex was placed wisely throughout
👌🏾 fast paced story
What lagged? Why 3 instead of 4 stars?
😬 the formatting, some minor grammar made the story feel not as sleek and professional as I wished. The presentation was big font, massive spaces between paragraphs that were distracted from the gripping story.
Personal soapbox 👩🏾🏫:
Alejandra was taken as a fresh-faced college student. The story takes place 3 years after that event. The house manager/carekeeper is portrayed as an elderly house mom at the ripe old age of 40-something. 😒 Yes, this book wanted you to believe that a 40-year-old woman would fit the role of a sweet old lady. That's the crux of my recent issues with age in these stories. Alejandra would have had more depth and nuance if she was ladynapped as a recent college grad/first-year graduate school student. The drama of her situation with being a 25- or 26-year-old would have escalated, and her new position in the household would have matched Massimo brilliantly. Instead, we get what we got. I know authors rely on early 20-something FMCs to help with dramatic effect even when it's unnecessary but I wish more authors would change it up. /End Personal soapbox 👩🏾🏫
"Before her, I'd work myself like a robot. My existence felt monochrome. But with her, I switched to a world of colors."
All in all, the action was exciting. Massimo was an awesome MMC, even though he wasn't really cruel. I loved how the author set the dark romance tone, and Alejandra was a great character. I can't wait to read more by this author.
I wasn’t sure what rating to give this book a 4 or a 5 . I found it to be a bit of a slow burn don’t get me wrong the first two chapters I was completed invested in how this broken woman’s life would end up.
This book definitely had the full gamut of emotion laughing at the bromance and encounters between Massimo (MMC) and Claudio ( definitely his story next fingers crossed). Crying for the plight this poor girl found herself in and definitely fearful for her. I found Massimo to be cold rather than cruel . He was definitely out of his comfort zone with Alejandra( FMC)
As for Alejandra our amazing heroine, the awful 3 years she’s has had to endure but still able to show a bit of fire and find her HEA.
I decided on 4 * just because the editing wasn’t great. Spelling errors, unfinished sentences and grammatical errors.
However great read, easy read. Looking forward to reading more from Faye.
Her Cruel Captor is the story of Alejandra being kidnapped and sold into slavery for three years, after which Massimo meets her at an auction. He wanted a wife and he decided to buy her for a million dollars. Alejandra had gone through a long period of cruelty and abuse. She was trained to become obedient and forget her past. I feel so sorry for her and it makes me cry sometimes when she thinks of her three years of suffering. However, Massimo, despite his cruelty, has a soft spot for Alejandra. He takes care of her and he brings her back to life. After their closeness and Alejandra's cuteness, he fell in love with her. They fell in love with each other. And I'm glad Alejandra is finally finding her own happiness.
After 3 years of abuse Alejandra is put back into the auction to be sold little did she know that Massimo wanted her and only her and bid One Million Dollars for her. She had no clue what to expect, or how she would be treated she was broken so why bid so high for her?
Massimo had told his family that he had a fiance and was getting married not to someone his family wanted to marry, so he bought Alejandra.
I love Massimo, he is ruthless but loving and would do anything to keep Alejandra safe and with him. When she got abducted he found her and got her back, he loved her but wouldn't admit it.
This book had me hooked from the start to the end of the extended epilogue, I loved the characters and the storyline, another brilliant book by Faye
This has a good storyline and decent characters it touches upon some dark and disturbing issues of the sex slave trade. Alejandra was just 18 and new to Naples starting a degree in architecture when she was kidnapped by sex slave traders and sold to the highest bidder and used in vile degrading ways. Returned to the auction once more she is purchased by Massimo but not as a sex slave but to be his wife and their adventure begins. The storyline is good but oh the mistakes are very annoying and much more could have been of the whole thing so disappointing in some ways.
I was really confused with my feeling with this book, It highlighted some very dark subjects without making it unbearable to read, which I thought was brilliantly done. There was quite a few spelling mistakes, missing letters and unfinished words, but it didn’t affect reading the book. It had a lovely HEA. Although it was a good read I didn’t bother reading the epilogue as the whole story in its self didn’t grip me. There were few times when I was going to give up half way. Maybe just my mindset or I just couldn’t get excited about the plot. It seemed quite slow.
Being sold into sexual slavery after having been kidnapped from her family has made Alejandra despondent. When she is returned by her owner after three years of various types of abuse, she wishes for death but a bid for her at this next auction changes her life. Massimo needs a wife and sets sight on Alejandra, now he just needs to heal her body, soul and heart, which won't be that easy. This dark mafia romance was an emotional read but also very suspenseful.
I received an ARC of this story and voluntarily leave this review.
After three years of torture, Alejandra is sold at an auction to Massimo who is only at the auction because he needs a wife to get out of an arranged marriage. Alejandra is despondent and traumatized but Massimo vows to protect her. At first he ignores her but when she does not follow the part he wants her to play, Massimo begins to help her slowly heal. I loved Alejandra's journey to healing her traumatized self. This is a well-written dark mafia story filled with danger, suspense, betrayal, kidnapping and redemption. Loved it and the Extended Epilogue.
I read one more captivating book by Faye. It was very page turner novel. I liked Maximo and his family how strong was family connection and how they accept Alejandra in the end. Alejandra had horrible life for three years, until Max bought her out and showed her life that young woman deserves. I recommend it for mafia romance lovers. Thank you for sharing this novel with me.
Thought she was being sold as a slave again, Alejandra is surprised by her treatment. Her new master Massimo wants her to be his wife. As he teaches her to rejoin the world, she accepts his help. Her past is not through with her but Massimo will destroy the world for her.
Alejandra has been through so much, but she is so strong! I loved seeing her journey and as much as my heart hurt for her, I was so happy to see her story unfold!
Massimo 🥹 I really loved his character and how we got to see a lot of his personality come out throughout the book! Seeing him with Alejandra made my heart melt!
This book was a little bit darker than other books I have read by Faye Pierce, and I loved it! I loved the storyline and I loved the characters. The only thing I didn't love was the spelling/grammar errors. It's a pet peeve for me, and there were just too many errors for me to be able to fully enjoy reading this book. Overall though, this story is definitely worth the read!
I have loved everything I’ve read from Faye! What can I say, I love a good mafia romance and she delivers every time! The character development alone is phenomenal in both Massimo and Alejandra and seeing them grow together and realize certain things was so fun to read! And SPOILER: him bringing her family to the wedding had me in my feels something fierce! 🥹🥰

3.5 stars I am torn on this. I liked the storyline, and the characters. The writing is what threw me off. There were some odd, awkward word choices and sentence structures, missing words and repeated words. I almost felt like I was reading a translation at times. I feel like a strong edit would move this to a 4 star for me.
I got really drawn into this story and couldn’t put it down. Massimo can be ruthless but kind and loving.Alejandra hates him for buying her but then loves him passionately. Very good book and loved reading it.
Read this book in a matter of hours. Felt for the MFC, Alejandra and the life she has endured over the last 3 yrs. Loved the MMC Massimo, he needs to find a wife to stop the family marrying him to the nasty bitch that is Vitoria. Easy read and I do like an extended epilogue.
Story does not flow smoothly. It's jumpy and some of the grammar seems like it is translated from another language and not well. You need a better editor for sure and better proof readers. Not likely to read anymore by this author.
I loved the dual pov in this book. I loved how she described how Alejandra and Massimo felt in each chapter. I did have a hard time getting into it right away but I once I got going I was invested. I do recommend reading triggers first.
Her Cruel Captor brings up female trafficking, which is a really hard scene to create but from this there is a really specially story for Alejandra and Massimo each from opposite sides of this cruel word, bring in some great HOT scenes
I loved it, I was drawn in of the world Massimo lives in and I loved him so much. There was some grammar and language that seems off but it didn't stop me from devouring the book.
This book was a.little different than she normally writes. She was a sex slave and he buys her so he can get married. It takes some time before this book moves more. You decide
This book was amazing, loved it so much. Was so much excitement. I love how the two of them were just so good together. This is one of my new favorite authors. 🌟📚🔥🌟📚🔥🌟📚🔥🌟📚📚🔥🌟🌟📚
This book was amazing! Definitely sends you on an emotional roller coaster! Please make sure you check your trigger warnings as your mental health comes first!!
