The year is 1966, and it's party time. With Halloween right around the corner, two teens decide to take their friends out for the night of their lives. Even better, they've heard rumors of an abandoned haunted house deep in the Kent countryside. When Johnny and Hayley arrive at Hadlow House, they think they've struck gold. The house is everything they were hoping for, having been left untouched since a fire ravaged the structure many years ago. As far as they can tell, no-one has set foot in the place for more than a decade.Soon, however, the friends discover that they're not alone. As their night of fun and debauchery takes a series of dark turns, they're forced to face the awful truth. Hadlow House might have been abandoned, but that doesn't mean it's empty. And whatever lurks in the shadows is coming for them.1966 is the eleventh book in the Haunting of Hadlow House series, which tells the story of one haunted house over the centuries from its construction to the present day. All the lives, all the souls, all the tragedies... and all the ghosts. Readers are advised to start with the first book in the series.

I'm struggling now!

I've been reading this series from the beginning and have enjoyed most of the books but, I am starting to wonder if the author is finally running out of ideas. However, I will read the final two instalments and just hope that the author managers to up her game. This particular story had four, rather unlikable, teenagers out looking for some illicit fun on Halloween night. They drive miles out of London and into rural Kent when they stumble across Hadlow House. You know that this isn't going to end well and, it doesn't. Roll on the next instalment and yes, I really am a glutton for punishment.

So much happening here 😵

Might be one of the best entries in the series. It has gore, anxiety inducing moments, lots of ghosts and so much new information! I'm pleasantly surprised.

After many ups and downs, The Hadlow House is certainly building towards an interesting ending.

yet another great book

Loved that the story of Fanny was finally explained.
The only thing that bothered me, and nothing to do with the story, there were several grammatical errors that should have been caught when doing a final spelling/grammar check. I read super fast but still catch these. I noticed more in this book than in others. 😊

This one brought back the horror. There’s enough blood to satisfy even the most prolific horror reader. Finally finding who Fanny really is.. on to 1999. Loved this one.

Fanny, or should I say Mary, is up to her tricks again. Four young people on an adventure to party in an abandoned house on Halloween. The house is in worse shape than they thought it would be, so they decide to leave. Of course Mary has other ideas. Steve is the first to die while walking back to Cobblefield in the hopes of finding a mechanic. Hailey is spared because she is with child.

Mary's plans are once again thwarted. Lily and Caroline's ghosts seem to have been able to leave Hadlow House. Many miles away, something sinister is happening in the home of Wally's widow, Gladys. Is Mary seeking revenge on the remaining Demeter and Potter family members?

So... The plot twist was good, I guess. I wasn't expecting that there was someone else behind all of this but I didn't like that it might be a demon?
Don't get me wrong. The saga started out great but these last books have felt lazier compared to the previous ones. I think up until book 6 everything was great, but now it just feels predictable somehow
I was really enjoying it but the characters died too quickly which wasn't a surprise at all.
But I loved that we got even more background
I have had a great experience with more Amy Cross' books, so fingers crossed for a nice ending!

Okay, we have young adults who decide they want to have a Halloween Party at Hadlow House. These people are not too bright when they decide to play with the spirit board, better known as the Ouija Board. We also learn more about Fanny when she was a child. She was sympathetic to a woman who was accused as a witch and burned at the stake. All but one of the young adults die at the hands of Lily, Hayley survives because the entity wants her baby. It will be interesting to see what happens when the next family buys the house.

This one wasn’t my favourite at all - I would have loved it better if it was a haunted house story with the four Londoners.

Whilst I am glad we finally have confirmation that something was up before the house was built, but I don’t like how that’s playing out. I’m hoping 1999 and 2024 will be better.

read them ALL

I am captivated by this series. While there are some grammar errors (English major, so I take notice more than others), I was still invested deeply. Each book brings a new set of characters, while still holding tight to the old characters. It’s twisted, surprising, and gruesome. True horror. Can’t wait to finish the series!!!

1966

This book in the series gave new insight to the hauntings of Hadlow House. A sort of twist. I enjoyed the story line and can't wait to see what happens next. Hopefully the answer to what happened to Gladys and Sally and by whom and how.

Wonderful

Amy cross is a real artist of the haunted house stories. You really have to read her books to find out how much she can tell you about her inner being this book is great but there are a lot of typos.

Interesting twist

I was expecting a little bit of an upgrade in the story, considering the year it was. What I wasn't expecting was that it would contain more of a back history of the story where it's progressed from. Now I'm getting more intrigued. On to the next!

Spending

In this book we follow Caroline, Lisa, and a new girl Hayley in their battle to defeat Fanny. We also learn more about Fanny herself. Evil has many faces, or is it just one?
