New witch Samantha Sinclair is in over her head. There isn't a healer alive who can teach her how to use her magical gifts. When she unearths an ancient grimoire that belonged to a magical practitioner from the lost colony at Roanoke, she decides not to look gift cougars in the mouth.
But the more she reads, the more Sam realizes that the similarities between herself and the long-dead healer aren't mere coincidence. It's like she's reading about her life. One son who became alpha. Check. Two dominant shifters vying for her attention. Check. A lost community never to be heard from again? Uh oh.
Can Sam change course before history repeats itself? Or is her new home already slated for annihilation?

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Hart writes about characters that cuss, get naked, and often make poor but hilarious life choices. A native New Yorker, Jenn now lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her imaginary friends. Her works to date include the Cougars and Cauldrons series, the Silver Sisters series and the upcoming Legcay Witches of Shadow Cove.
Enjoyed the story. There was one part that was not for me, the good thing is the author warned you ahead of time so you could skip ahead. By skipping that part you did not miss anything relevant to the main story. I am interested to see where the authors takes these characters next.
Unimaginable, Unforgetable! Midlife Hexes and Familiar Exes is beautiful, terrifying, hot and so much more. Jennifer Hart steps up the steam in her second novel in the Cauldron and Cougars series. A journal from a healer from the lost Roanoke colony opens the group to a terrifying invasion. Before Samantha has a clue about the dangers, Damien disappears. No one has any idea where or even how to look for him so Sam turns to the journal which turns out to be much more than a diary and a really BAD idea. As she is trying to come to terms with the fact that Mathis has accidentally imprinted her as his mate, their relationship becomes even more complicated, as if dealing with Damien both there and missing, figuring out her powers, and living with Multiple Sclerosis aren’t enough issues for one middle aged woman! On top of everything else, she comes to suspect that she is the one responsible for the bad things that are happening within the community that she has quickly come to love. Danger, intrigue, and caring hearts immediately drew me into the Midlife Hexes and Familiar Exes from beginning and kept me there until the end. Warning possible trigger: Some sex mentioned, but not described in detail, is coerce MM. The situation is introduced in the development of one of the characters and is handled with heart. There is also an MFM scene. Only the attention given the female is described and again is handled respectfully but with details. Ms. Hart even alerts the reader so the chapter can be skipped or enjoyed.
Okay so first off I was iffy about reading the second book of this series. So I read the comments just to see others view and was pretty put off by what others were saying. I am all about the lost love found again and everyone lives happily ever after. I have never been a fan of the outsider comes in and swoops the man or women away knowing that another loves them with their whole heart. Sooooo.... I was absolutely giddy when Jennifer Hart chose to go to new depths and take a chance knowing it would put alot of people off this series. Some can be very set in their ways and I admit I am one but once I opened my mind and read this book with no judgement I fell in love with it. Who says that love cant be shared? As long as the people included love deeply and cherish eachother I'm all for it. Hart has outdone herself with this series and I am looking forward to the next book. I applaud you Hart for being true to yourself and your characters!
I like the characters…Mathis is my favorite. The story is a good one. I did feel like it dragged in some spots….her constant back and forth about her insecurities and how she couldn’t choose between the two. When she finally made a decision, she reneged on it. That part seemed like over kill to me. Overall I really enjoyed the story and I liked that the author gave people the heads up when a little steam was coming. I like the steam but respect those who may not want to read it. It was a nice way to handle both preferences) I also really liked the relationship between Mathis and Damien. Definitely a different take on shifters.
Things to learn and choices to make Another great story carrying on from Book 1. Sam, still trying to deal with her MS and also figuring out how to use her magical abilities, finds herself caught between two alpha males, Damien and Mathis, who both want her. Not only that she finds a grimoire and very strange and dangerous things begin to happen. There is danger, disappearances, mystery, twists, jealousy and sex scenes (which you are forewarned about and can choose not to listen to). Love how this story is shaping up and really looking forward to following on with it. A really enjoyable and easy listening to narration. I received an audiobook copy for my honest review.
"You ever hear the phrase be careful what you wish for?"
This second book continues Samantha Sinclair's story of being a white witch and the various "troubles" it can cause. She's woven a path that has issues for sure. Question is whether she can handle it or not when she finds an old diary that literally brings the past and the present together. For good? Or for bad?
Now, I'm not going to spoil this marvelous tale even though many have already read it. However, for those who haven't I'd suggest reading the first in the series and then snuggle in for a paranormal time of your life! Jennifer L Harte knocks your sox off again and again. Highly Recommended. 5/5
Audiobook: I enjoyed book 2 of the "Cougars and Cauldrons" series. The characters were memorable. I liked the plot twist which included some actual history, which itself is still wreathed in mystery today. I appreciated that the author notated that some descriptive sexual scenes were going to be depicted, and that readers could skip to the end of the chapter without losing any relevant data to the story. Hollie Jackson's narration was fine and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I loved this book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Sam has to learn to trust herself when Damien disappears. After she learns that she caused his disappearance she invites a demon. Everyone must figure out how to protect her. They also learn something new about Rex. This book kept me engaged. Everytime I thought I k ew what was happening Jennifer L Hart threw another curveball.
Wow! After reading the second book in this series, Ms Hart doesn’t disappoint! Her characters just leap off of the page, forcing you to feel like you’re part of the story. And this book has some very interesting plot twists that I totally wasn’t expecting. The development of Sam and Damien’s relationship, as well as between Sam and Mathis, make for a real page turner. So looking forward to the next book in this series……
I enjoyed this book, very much. The characters are endeared to me, the plot is all over the place, but that seems to happen in the best of stories, and the premise was finding a way for everyone involved to have a place in the main character's heart. Through trial, error, and some truly strange happenings, they seem to have done so. The story isn't over by a long shot though. I highly recommend this book.
Now that I’ve read this exciting 2nd book in the series, I know Sam a little more. She’s so strong mentally and emotionally, even though she’s suffering with Multiple Sclerosis. I love the feeling of community, and how they all help each other out. And they don’t expect more from anyone than they can give. Because it’s a series with witches and shifters, it’s fun and fascinating. Very well written.
Really enjoying this series so far. I didn't think how life was before Sam came back ( no spoilers!!) and I'll be honest it made me slightly uncomfortable knowing the 2 shifters prior relationship. However, I'm really excited about the next book and can't wait for it.
The past has a way of shaping you so you make decisions without thinking them through. When the time comes to absorb your magic, relying on that inner voice might not be the best choice. With age comes wisdom & when you trust in your own inner voice, real magic can happen.
After reading book 1 - I was intrigued. Liked the story, was ready to follow along. Boom, there's A WHOLE lot in this story and although it's not a cliffhanger it IS a pretty big hook! Normal, shmarmal - normality is NOT ALL its cracked up to be! Follow along to see what they are getting up to! Thank you for your time, talent AND THE STORIES.
I wasn’t expecting a warped 3-way relationship. The first book was ok, even though the “They” was just plain weird and confusing and probably satisfying some agenda. This second book though, was just plain deviant. Can’t give anything other than a 1-star, and I won’t be reading any more from this author.
So much going on with Sam's magic, the bonding, a magical relic and a twisted witch. This book had so many twists and turns it was hard to keep up. Loved it and couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next one!
It's a delicate balance between writing what the characters want and what the readers want. This book pushed that limit so far that I had to give up all pretense of control just to finish.
And am happy that I did. Because hot damn, what a ride!
Great character development. Loving the close & crazy community of shifters & witches. A little bit of history, some unexpected twits & turns, and non-traditional relationships make this a unique read. I like the way Sam is finding herself in her new world.
First book was intriguing. This one went off the rails in all Directions. I no longer liked the main female character. Not continuing with this series.
