This book was not what I expected. It was more about how to tell stories and be relatable and how to be a good active listener. I didn't get much out of it. About 80% in, the author started giving examples of jokes. Not original jokes- jokes that have been told before.
Being present and mindful in the moment is essential
I have no intent of becoming the next best comedian, I always intend to becoming the next best me possible. I really didn't think I'd be interested in reading this book all the way through, OH BOY, was I wrong. Not only several funny quotes and jokes, it also focuses on taking the time to learn some of the fundamental principles of being present, honing in on your listening skills, being present, and avoiding getting too hung up on the details and instead look at the bigger picture. Be open minded and paying attention to body language. “ Ignite Creativity by Reading”. (It most certainly does)
From Google: Comedians are some of the most intelligent people, there’s a reason why comedians consistently score significantly higher on verbal intelligence tests and IQ evaluations than the general population. "Knowledge is power, but research is just Google with a citation!"
A couple of the many quotes and jokes I loved:
“The most potent weapon for changing the world is education.”
“Make people laugh without taking yourself too seriously, and enjoy the journey along the way”.
“Learn to laugh at yourself first. Laughing at yourself is powerful and can increase your confidence, charisma”
“I’m not arguing; I’m just trying to converse with a higher IQ than my own.”
“Why was the mathematics book depressed? Because it has many problems.”
