Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
Oh my gosh, this series is so much fun! I always get the biggest kick outta that crazy Edie! If I didn’t know better, I’d say she’d been a spy in a former life since she can get just as edgy (and good at questioning!) as Gran and Piper. And if anyone can talk those two into doing something they think’s horrible, it’s our Edie! Her prom queen campaign was hilarious just like when she acted as lookout for their adventure.
And what a showdown! Go Piper and go Gran! I think the residents all learned to just look past anything crazy those two did, and who wouldn’t love the ladies to pieces after they caught a killer, right? I always feel bad for the two since I’m thinking they’d secretly like to give in and have some male companions in Theodore and Ryker, but good old WITSEC looms over their lives.
I have never laughed out loud so much at a book as I have this book and all the rest of them leading up to it. This is the best story the best author I absolutely love Piper Harris and her grandmother.. and I love Deany’s style of writing. Any book that makes me laugh out loud gets five stars and more and it’s clean and not full of filthy language you love the characters she develops them so wonderfully her talent is out of this world and I am so thrilled. I found her books they make me happy. They make me laugh and they make me wish I could be in that senior citizens community with Piper Harris and her grandmother, thank you so much JEANNIE for these wonderful books. I will pay more for their books. I mean for her books and I will anybody else.. I love love love the books. You won’t regret buying them get them and read them therefore everybody who loves to laugh and loves a little SPN and excitement the books have everything please buy them so she’ll keep writing them love love love these books.
According to Piper Harris joining the Witness Protection Program is “like winning a lottery you never wanted to enter.” Piper and Gran know their lives will always be in danger if the Falcon motorcycle gang they were a part of in their previous lives were ever to find them in Bitter End, Florida. When Gran was caught in a money laundering scheme, the only way out of jail time was to testify against their former gang. After months of hiding in various hotels until the trial, Piper and Gran were relocated to Bitter End, Florida in a retirement community. When Piper took neighbor Edie to the funeral of a local dentist, everyone was stunned when after the coffin was dropped, not only did the deceased body fall out of the coffin, so did the sheet-wrapped body of a young woman. Hired by a local PI who has offered her work, Piper is now mid-investigation attempting to discover how the extra body appeared in a coffin and how the young woman was killed. Meanwhile, back at the retirement community a senior prom is being planned and Gran discovers she is one of the finalists for Prom Queen. As if life in a retirement community couldn't get any crazier. This hilarious, entertaining and clever storyline kept me laughing until the final page. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another hysterical addition to the Piper Harris series! After being placed in the witness protection program, Piper and Gran were forced to leave their home and relocate to a senior adult complex all the way across the country in Dead End, Florida. That involved giving up their old way of life and assuming new identities. The adjustment to this new way of life has been anything but smooth sailing! The senior adults in the community are hilarious! You never know what they are going to get into! Dead bodies keep showing up and Piper always seems to end up in the middle of the investigation into their deaths! This last one showed up at a funeral and it wasn’t the dearly departed! To complicate matters further, there is an upcoming “Senior“ Prom complete with the crowning of the King and Queen! I absolutely love these characters! They are a hoot! I only hope that when I need a Senior Living community I’ll be able to find one like this!
Attitudes are leveling out but there's still a murderer to find...
Things have toned down some on Edie's annoyances, thank goodness!! She's been quite level-headed and helpful this time around. And Gran, oh Gran...I just love her and all her pistol packing sass!! I can totally imagine her in her black leather formal with her biker boots on, and what a picture Deany Ray painted for us!! But in all fairness, I can't knock Gran and her constantly wearing her biker boots because I'm a South Texas girl and we wear cowboy boots with formals all the time. Slow progress has been made in the love department on both accounts of Gran and Piper which was a nice touch. I still wish there was a little more time in between each murder case, oops I mean each book. I still recommend them though and even though you can pick any one of them to read because each gives you a bit of back story, so you can understand. They are best read in order.
Since moving to the retirement community, Piper and Gran have accidentally landed in more troublesome situations than is healthy for people in witness protection. Taking her neighbor, Edie, to a funeral should have been a safe outing for Piper. However, when the casket falls and an extra body falls out things become more complicated. Add to this, Piper has agreed to be a paid consultant for P.I. Leo Leonardi and this turns out to be their case. Add in the "Senior " prom shenanigans at the retirement community where both Edie and Gran are nominated for Prom Queen and you have a rollickingly funny book. I am a big fan of this series because of the many funny situations these characters land in. I am eagerly awaiting the next book. I received an arc copy of this book and this is my freely offered review.
I'm not quite certain why this series just doesn't work for me. There are a number of areas that the plot really drags and I feel like the overall premise behind the story is circling over and over. Maybe if there weren't constant references to how much they have lost their lives? I know they've only been in Bitter End two and a half months, but they've been away from the "life" for 2 years now. It seems like they just walked away from the Falcons yesterday. And there is never any reference to the trial or who may have been arrested/jailed based on their information. Slow burn on potential romance but it seems to be the same thing over and over too. Guess it's just time to finish this one.
This is book 4 in a series loosely in the Genre of the Stephanie Plum Books. Piper and her Gran have been placed in the witness protection program after being lifelong members of a motorcycle gang. Unfortunately for them, they are in a senior living facility, where they don't quite fit.
In this book, a nearly naked body falls out of a coffin that was supposed to be enclosing only one body, and it wasn't hers. Piper gets pulled into a PI's investigation as a consultant.
Also happening in this book is a senior prom where a king and queen of the prom will be selected. This makes for a funny book with unexpected twists and turns. Although it's book 4, you can enjoy this book without having read the previous books. But maybe you'd get some of the references if you had read them.
I recommend this book for people who enjoy a book where the unexpected happens in a very humorous way.
Because I'm a glutton for punishment and like to read stories all the way through I'm continuing on with the series. If you read the prior books this is no different. Same discussion about how being in witness protection is difficult, how living in a retirement community is stupid, how Piper has changed, how Edie bakes a lot and is smarter than she looks, and how Riker gets in the way but is God's gift to women. It's still cute and fun and if you ignore how many times she repeats the same things over and over in the series and just get past them it's a decent cozy mystery.
Piper and Gran are in the middle of it again when Edie has them go with her to a funeral where a second body is discovered in the casket. The second body is a young woman who has a suspicious tattoo on her ankle very similar to the tattoo she and Gran had to get rid of when they went into the Witness Protection program. In other news. Gran is up for senior (citizen) prom queen. A fun and fast paced story with developed characters and a good bit of humor.
I was very disappointed in this book. The story line was fine, even though I’m getting a little tired of the constant references to their past life-it’s time to move on a bit. But I was so disappointed that the book had so many editing errors. I was actually shocked because the other books didn’t have these errors. It was sometimes hard to read because just as I was reading an interesting part of the story there would be another error. I regret buying this book.
Another awesome book in the Piper Harris Mystery series. The characters are so entertaining & you can just imagine them in real life. This story has you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails one minute, then your laughing at someone's antics. Piper & her grandma are in a witness protection program. I seriously think they're trying to see how many rules they can break. Are they both getting soft & caring, and not the bad asses they once were?
I love this series and the characters in it. Piper and Edie attend the local dentist's funeral and to their amazement a nude female body falls out when the casket is dropped. The search is on to figure out who the woman is and how she ended up in the casket. The antics are never ending with this group of characters. I look forward to reading more books by Deany Ray.
What trouble can two retired ladies and one granddaughter do in a retirement community? With the younger getting pulled into every mystery that comes up and the neighbor lady wanting to be included in everything. Trying to stay out of trouble seems to be hitting a few snags. Attending the local dentist's funeral leads to another such occasion when the casket gets dropped and two bodies fall out. Good Read.
Book four in the Piper Harris mysteries is hilarious carries on smoothly from the previous stories. There are no slow spots, and so far none of the books have a predictable story line, just entertaining ladies finding themselves in crazy situations. Now if I could only believe this was written by a woman who was never in the U.S. The style of writing is identical to Jana Deleon, who is a master at comedy writing.
I have really been enjoying this series. I love Piper and her Grandma and how they are making a way where they are at. The seniors are a fun group and Ryker is a wonderful problem in Piper's life. I can't wait to see if she ever sort of steals his bike just for a quick ride.
I really enjoy the Piper Harris stories....The granddaughter & grandmother are both funny characters....They end up being in trouble not intentionally kbut trouble always finds them... They solve a mystery always with alot of laughs along the way ....It's a quick enjoyable read.. I look forward to reading more of them...Thank - you..M.L.😊
Read the books in order to get the most enjoyment of this series. In this book Piper and Edie are at a funeral for a dentist who was popular with the seniors, the casket is dropped and a woman's body rolls out with the dentist's. Piper, Edie and Grandma all get involved in solving this mystery. Add in a prom for the seniors at their community and it's all fun!
Bad grammar! How did this make it past the publisher? So many sentences were not complete or didn’t make sense. It’s an ok read but it got real old trying to figure out what some of the sentences were trying to get across. And in the end, you don’t find out who was elected Prom Queen. So disappointed!
Love these characters. I so want them all to have an HEA. In this one a dead body is found at a funeral when a casket is dropped and there is two bodies instead of just one in the coffin. Mayhem soon follows as the wacky trio search out the killer. It funny, exciting and I fall for these characters more and more. Enjoy!
There is great humor and excitement. I really enjoy the characters that are seniors. I love that Piper is afraid of nothing. She and Gran just watch out for their friends. They might have a skewered sense of right and wrong but they are loyal and mostly honest.
I really have enjoyed reading this series and while the flashbacks are still present with the history of Piper and Gran, I love the characters! Especially Gran and her sarcastic wit. Was I hoping for more between Piper and Ryker? Yes I was and there was more improvement on that front but still not to the level that I would have thought by book 4!
Do Not Read This One In Public cause everyone will be looking at you. I laughed so hard. Couldn't put this one down. This author is very talented. I am so lucky to have run across her. Piper Harris, Gran, Edie, Ryker, Theodore, and the rest are a blast. Mystery was very well written and the humor was spot on. Loving this series!
a really wonderful cozy! the quirky complex characters will make you love them as much as I do! Lots of twists and turns, murder and mayhem, make this enjoyable story a real page turner. This book made me laugh out loud! This is a must must read!
I love the characters in this series. They are interesting, sometimes outrageous, loyal, and fun. The mystery was eventually solved. This is a fun, entertaining book!
And case closed! As usual, a funny and relaxing read. I have enjoyed the previous three in this series and eagerly await the next "case" that get Piper, Gran, Edie and of course Ryker butting heads with each other and the Bitter End Bunch!!
The amount of laughter I’ve experienced in this book is refreshing. Piper and Gran never cease to amaze me with how they’re handling witness protection, and Edie, there are absolutely no words for this vibrant woman.
I love reading these books and I can’t wait for the next one. 🙂 The things they do in solving various crimes are soon funny and imaginative. I love the paybacks they give each other and I’m glad Gran finally got to draw her gun 🙂
Not going to lie, my husband looked over a couple of times as I was reading this book and laughing out loud. From the funeral, getting ready for prom and the medical examiner kept me on a roll. Next book please.
An easy fun read about a couple non traditional grandmas and their partnership with their grandchildren to solve murders in an over 55 retirement community in Florida. An easy fun read.
