From children's home to abusive marriage, Millie's life has never been easy, and when her husband Levi is killed in a car crash, she has to rebuild not only her life, but her spirit too.
Struggling with flashbacks from a lifetime of abuse, she suddenly has a sense that someone is watching her, from across the street, there in the shadows, observing her every move. Are the traumas from her past causing her mind to play tricks on her? Will she ever be able to move on?Millie decides she needs answers, and firstly to the most important one of all, who are her birth parents? She begins to investigate, but her inquiries are interrupted, as trouble is brewing in Stepney, when a group of travellers, out for revenge, arrive in town. The target of their vengence is local face, Paul Kelly and when Paul locks horns with the formidable Duke Lee, bare knuckle boxing champion of the travellors, their feud threatens to tear the place apart. Sensing the danger around her, Millie feels the need not only to protect those closest to her, but also the life she is trying to rebuild for herself .... just how far would you go to protect those around you?
I have never heard of this auther but I'm so glad I picked her book .It was a.brilliant read and I could not put the book down . This auther is better than a lot of authors who have wrote many books but Carol hellier beats a lot of them .I hope she continues to carry on writing.I give her 5 stars but I also think she deserves more .
Brilliant. Millie was brought up in a children’s care home having been left on the doorstep with a white bunny. She marries a gypsy called Levi and her life is cruel. When one day she’s out with Levi and there’s a car accident. This leaves Millie in hospital and her husband dead. Her life begins from here but there are still ups and downs.
The spelling and grammar in this book is atrocious and needs a better proof reader. Would have been 5 star as the story is brilliant.
Excellent plot but appalling spelling and grammar. If you can get past these things an enjoyable read. I would definately read another of her books but hope the proof reader in the next book does their job better.
