Journey with NoSleep favorite Marta Abromaityte in this collection of tales that remind us that genuine horror isn't just what’s behind the mask, but why it was put on in the first place…A terrified man descends into madness, convinced something is making his fingers disappear one by one. A hiker becomes trapped in a surreal empty town in the woods. A man becomes convinced creatures are living inside his blood… and they just want out.As the masks fall away in these and other disturbing tales, are you brave enough to see what lies beneath?
Some of the stories in this collection were pretty solid. However the collection format really highlighted the fact that there wasn't a lot of characterization to the stories and that most of them had the same tone and vibes so at the end of the day most of them just sort of blended together.
There's a story about a man who's adopted dog just had to be euthanized because of cancer and it was a peculiar form of horrific for me to read it the day after being told that my adopted cat has cancer and most likely only weeks to live, straight in the feelings!
What pulls this up to 4 stars for me, is the few stories in here that is absolutely fucking flawless. They deserve all the praise.
There is however a lot of fillers, some of them straight up lazy and lame (as for instance the story 'hoarder', which imho shouldn't even have left her google drive).
BUT all in all the good stories in there make it all worth while, and tells me that the author is very, very talented... and perhaps also why I object so much to her lame filler stories, surely she knows they are not good... I wrote stories for anthologies, and dude I know that not all of them are equally good. But the spectrum in this book is MAD, like from gold to trash.
Anyway, do read it, and I am going to keep an eye out for her stuff, I know I already own another thing she wrote that I haven't had time to read yet.

This collection of stories was the perfect escape to a dreary, dark world of horror and magic. I am left mesmerized by the dozens of immersive worlds and characters contained within these pages. My absolute favorite story is “The Woman is With No Skin”. One I imagine I’ll read over and over again in my life time and honestly one of the finest short stories I have ever read (in any genre)
It's amazing how someone can put together a very short story, and managed to give the reader so many disturbing visuals. "Cockroach Boy" was the one that freaked me out the most.
Some of these stories were pretty good, but the rest were hokey, weird in a not scary or funny way, or tried far too hard to mysterious and existential. Only read up to 64% bc I got bored and most of the stories ran together
Ohhhhh my God. The only horror in these stories would be how lame they were. The number of times the stories began with the nickname of the villain? and they were all so dumb. There was 1 good story in this. What a waste of time.
