Ryan Marie is a big city girl living in a small town literary world. When she’s not busy being just mom, you can find her building the next Happily Ever After with diverse characters who are everyday people. She loves a good love story, but won’t hold back when adding some gut wrenching drama that will have readers in tears. But don’t worry…you’ll always get that HEA. Adopted by Texas, she’s a proud southerner and enjoys introducing readers to southern slang and all the bless your hearts you can handle.
my personal reactions and opinions: ✔️ novella - short but with depth ✔️ excellent grovel from the MMC ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🫤 she has sex w/ him almost instantly post betrayal 🫤 body betraying syndrome 🫤 she agreed to try and work things out after 1 wk 🫤 she forgave him way too quickly (by 4wks) 🫤 what did being a dick to her have to do with his guilt? I mean I get it, but I also don't. 🫤 why does he demonize the OW when he's just as guilty? jerk move 🫤 not angsty enough for me
HEA with epilogue
Notes/SPOILERS: ************* physical cheating once (he got oral, stopped before finishing)
Now, I read everything and frankly cheating with angst and grovel is not an issue for me, as long as it's done right.
This one was not.
The writing lacked refinement, I despised the dialogue, the main male and female characters were immature, and the FMC's hatred towards the woman who had an affair with her husband was unwarranted.
It was unjustified for her to call the other woman names like "cunt, bitch, whore, slut, THOT..." in all capital letters, especially when she wasn't nearly as angry at her own CHEATER husband. Surprisingly, everyone seemed to blame the other woman instead of holding the husband accountable. They practically pleaded with the FMC not to abandon the REAL cheating cunt.
“Did you get on all fours and crawl under my husband's desk like a basic office whore? Did you choke on his cock? It’s big, isn’t it? I bet you did.”
LIKE WHAAATTT? IS THIS A CUCK FANTASY GIRLIE?
“Because, you see, you’ve ruined my life. And if I can’t have mine the way it’s supposed to be well…neither will you. Eye for an eye, bitch."
Laughing my ass off, here you go, forgiving your husband for cheating and going off on the woman, your HUSBAND ruined your life, not some random woman who does not owe you ANYTHING.
Make it make sense.
Bah, the grovel sucked too, since he was a big baby.
This fabulous MIT novella is jammed packed with infidelity goodness ! It impressively checks off many infidelity wish list boxes for its small pages! Confession quickly moves to grovel,360 change in behavior, involvement of family members for support, more begging ,pleading and cherishing and then ultimately redemption! Includes HEA Epilogue
Begins with H missing date night and upon finally arriving home behaves very badly. He has lipstick on his neck sending h out the door,is her final straw. She escapes to a friends house,he gives drunken chase and ends up admitting to an infidelity that occurred a year ago that has altered his behavior for the past year. The lipstick on the neck involves unwanted advances and is not cheating I plead the author to pen more quality angsty infidelity tales for us!🙏❤

I hated the so called hero. Plus his behavior changed way to quick. He started out as a jerk and then he's perfect husband. I think it was trying to point out that confession is good for the soul. But if my husband had done what hers had done, I would now be on an episode of Snapped. She handled it pretty well and I know they had several kids and she really loved him but I just can't seem to understand that word forgiveness in cheating stories. Or in real life either. I am a vengeful soul! I hate that too. Epilogue was good but the story just didn't work for me. This is a case of me not you. I totally loved Lane her twin brother. He was awesome.
1 Star I’m going to be honest, I normally don’t read books that have cheating in them because I just can’t handle it. BUT I’ve read some I liked because they have amazing groveling, payback and the cheating is managed in a real way. The heroin or hero don’t go back to their partner immediately. All of this to say, this book didn’t have all the things I like my cheating books to have. This book gave me headache, the characters were so dumb, the only one that wasn’t was Lane: he was amazing, I loved him! Anyways, the following is my thought process through the book.
“You’re sorry. Yeah. Got it. What made you think that you could coerce my husband into having an affair? Roman was obviously weak, but you preyed on him.” It takes two to cheat. You literally staying with your husband but only blaming the girl he cheated on you with?
The only good part of this book was when she was in the club and kissed another guy, payback is a bitch and I’m not mad at that.
"It’s a show of ownership. He’s reminding me that I am his." Excuse me. So he gets to be all possessive caveman when she kisses another dude AFTER finding out he cheated but she should just forgive him, just because, when he got his dick sucked by his assistant. WHAT IS THIS!
And like is not even the fact he cheated, is that he literally cheated and still treated the "love of his life" like shit for a whole year. He literally had to have the fear of her leaving him to change? Gurl what? Bye.
"I don’t care that I’m manhandling her out in the open where anyone could see. I know I’m being cruel in the way I’m touching her, but I can’t reason with myself to slow down." Bitch bffr, you cheated on her, she kissed a guy and immediately regretted it.
“Don’t you ever let another man touch you the way that fucker did,” I roar. “I will murder anyone who dares to talk to you. Do you understand me?” I’m so done with this man’s bullshit.
“Look at me!” I growl and grip her face, squeezing her cheeks and forcing her to meet my eyes. “You are mine, Luna. If you wanted to get even you succeeded sweetheart. But let me see that shit again and I will kill them with my bare hands. The score is even. You made me feel your pain, but it won’t happen again. Say you understand?” Omg this man is fucking crazy and disgusting bye. And after all of that he angry fucks her in an alley and she gets all of her back scratched, I’m so done with this book.
The final straw for me with this book was this quote: "Just two months after that night at the restaurant where we committed to being “all in”, we found out Luna was pregnant." I was done. The book didn’t have any groveling or anything they just got back together like nothing happened, had sex and a baby and voila marriage healed. Hated this book and I don’t recommend it. Safe yourself the hours of torture.
i don’t usually read books with these tropes but it’s ryan so obviously i jumped on the opportunity to read this and i loved it!!
for a novella, there was a lot of character growth! everything felt complete & i loved that!
luna and roman went through so much in such a short amount of time and i really enjoyed getting to see how they worked through it & what was going on in their minds
it was a quick story & an easy read and i think everyone’s gonna enjoy it!
I Don’t like that trope at all. So keeping that aside, marriage on rocks I am recently loving that trope. I would say Fmc is a badass. I think she should’ve let him grovelled hard . It is what it is he did good all the right things which he neglected previously. Its good to watch grown men squirm.
Tropes: Marriage in trouble Adultery Second chance Grovelling
Guilt ridden husband has spent a year self sabotaging. His confession sends her spiraling. I liked that there’s a full arc to forgiveness and the start of reconciliation, but think it needed more time, not more story—just spread out further.
This made me want to shoot myself in the head. Why does the h constantly have to be a doormat, and the H wasn't groveling to me. Literally gave this man the okay after week 4 post cheating. H talking shit about OW and not taking accountability for his actions.
In the beginning Roman is never home and when he is he can be impossible. He forgets a very important date with his wife. She calls him and things are said in the background that has her hackles rise.
Secrets are revealed and they struggle for awhile but eventually start healing.
"Through the Fire" by Ryan Marie delves into the challenging topic of a marriage on the rocks, touching on infidelity, which may not be to everyone's taste. I'll admit I usually steer clear of such themes in books, but as I had the opportunity to read this as an ARC, I felt compelled to share my thoughts.

Tropes: 📌Marriage on the rocks 📌Second chance 📌Groveling man 📌Interracial couple 📌Mental health rep 📌Redemption
The novella focuses on a marriage in crisis. Luna Hart, a devoted stay-at-home mom, is married to Roman, a lawyer, and together they have three children. Initially, their marriage was harmonious, but things have taken a turn for the worse in the past year. Roman is consumed by his work, rarely present at home, and Luna has reached her breaking point. After he forgets a date night, she decides she can't endure this any longer and asks for a divorce. To make matters worse, Roman reveals an unsettling past encounter with his assistant, an act that did not escalate to a physical affair, but it devastated Luna.
Amid this turmoil, they talked to her parents. Luna's parents share a similar past experience they overcame with the help of a counselor, but Luna is not inclined to follow suit. Roman, on the other hand, is committed to making amends and begins by spending a week away with his father, leaving Luna alone with the kids to give her space. During this time, he has a newfound appreciation for all Luna does at home. He embarks on therapy and sincerely tries to rebuild their relationship. Luna eventually agrees to give their marriage a second chance.
“I love you with every piece of me, and need you more than I need air to breathe. Let me prove to you that I can make amends.”
This story offers a realistic portrayal of a complex situation. I can confidently say that, under normal circumstances, I'd never entertain the idea of forgiveness in the case of infidelity. But being outside this situation, I can't judge those who are willing to try and mend their relationship. The story highlights the painful reality of couples on the brink. Sometimes therapy doesn't work, but in this case, it offers a path to redemption. Roman commits to balancing his workaholic tendencies and spending quality time with his family.
This novella is a rollercoaster of emotions and prompts reflection on how one might respond to such a situation. While there's no excuse for infidelity, this story might encourage readers to keep an open mind. No one should be quick to judge someone who wishes to give their relationship a second chance. Marriages can be incredibly complex and require daily effort. Luna and Roman exemplify how dedication and hard work can help rekindle a relationship.
“Luna… no one will fault you for giving your husband a second chance. There is no shame in making a marriage work.”
If you're open to reading about these themes and enjoy stories involving second chances, I'd recommend giving this book a try.
“Tonight is a fresh start. We walked through the flames and now we would forge our way through the ashes.”
Wow… this little story took me by surprise. Such a sweet story. The beginning was rough 😮💨 I felt for the FMC as she was uncovering things and trying to figure out a way through. I felt her pain, even though i’m not married!
but what I loved about this story is that the clear message is that marriage is no walk in the park, no marriage is perfect, and every day you have to decide to fight for the person you choose to be with. It’s a give and take, and I just loved how the MC’s worked through things together.
This was just such a good heart wrenching but sweet story!
please check trigger warnings, as there is elements of cheating.
I wasn’t expecting so much heartache and plot in this novella! It’s hard to condense an entire novel into 144 pages but this book does exactly that. It felt like a full length story and it had soooo much heartache I definitely teared up a few times🥹
you wanna know what fills me with rage even more than the cheating in these type of books, fmcs horrible friends/family basically forcing her to take the cheater back in
“I am a flawed man, Luna, but I am also a remorseful man and I’ve done the work to repent and be the man that you all deserved. Yes, I slept with another woman. Had a relationship with her outside of my marriage. But I am not a cheater. I made a one time mistake, recognized that, and became the man I vowed to be on the day of our wedding. I think this holds true for Roman,” he says.
what are doing in this day and age ?
“But I just don’t know that I’m as strong as mom. I don’t know that I can “put it all in a box” and not bring it back when an argument arises.”
i don't think this has to do with being strong, i wouldn't want my mom to take him back either
★★★★. He cheated but he also threw up and hated himself so much he became an alcoholic lowkey. He groveled by changing himself completely and making him into the man Luna married. Luna was strong as hell. She may have had BBS, but I think that’s what was needed in this one because of the fact she felt sex with them during the past year was a job. She kisses another man too and Roman sees it so a win.
The reason for it not being 5 stars is because of her parents. Her mom and dad forgiving Roman because her father had a full fledge affair for months and that was forgiven. What parents want their daughter with a man who cheated and hid it for a year?? I don’t care if the mom forgave it that’s so messed up. They were NOT there for their daughter at all.
Wow.... just wow. This book was amazing. I struggled through the first part of the book as I recently went through a nasty divorce with similar wrong-doings by my "wonderful" ex-husband. I decided to power through, and I am glad I did. Ryan Marie writes a beautiful story of a marriage on the rocks and two people deciding to ride through the fire together. Ryan captured the emotions and rawness of adultery beautifully. Love, love, loved Through the Fire!
What I liked: I liked how much Roman(H) made up for what he did. I also liked how Luna(h) called the ow up and made her resign.
What I didn’t like: I wanted to actually read them going to couples therapy and Roman going alone. I also wanted to read the actual cheating and what was going through his mind instead of it happening a year ago.
***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: H and h are married with three young children. When H forgets their date night h has had enough. When H comes home drunk with lipstick stain on his shirt, the h tells him she is done. H breaks down telling her he will change and that nothing happened with the chick that left the lipstick stain. That he was doing a shot and the chick came up and kissed him, which he pushed her off. He even will be letting the HR at his job know about it, to make sure it won’t happen again. The H also confessed to cheating on the h a year ago. It happened just once with his assistant at work. She had been flirting with him, one thing led to another and the ow started to give him a blow job, which he stopped before he finished. It only happened that one time and H made sure to tell ow that it was a mistake and that he loves his wife. Since that happened he has been feeling guilty, working longer hours and drinking more to avoid his wife. h upset tells him he needs to leave and she wants a divorce. When the h and H tell her parents they inform them that the h’s father cheated on her mom but they worked through it and so can they. h doesn’t want to work through it but the H begs her. h asks for some time. H starts being there more for his kids and helping around the house. h’s brother takes her out and they call the ow to tell her she needs to resign or they will call her husband. Ow resigns. They also check out the other chick that left the lipstick. H goes to stay with his dad for the week and comes back on the weekend to be with the kids. h goes out and when she comes home she tells the H that he can come back home. H tells her he found a therapist and that he wants her to go too. When h goes out with the kids to the store, she overhears the ow telling the cashier that her boss fired her because his wife was jealous of her. h tells her off and when the H gets home h leaves to go out with her friend, telling the H how she had to overhear the ow talking about him. While h is out drinking, om dancing with her kisses her. H calls up the brother in law to watch the kids so he can go to the h. H sees the kiss and the h trying to push the om off. H tells the om off and drags the h home. They talk and they decide to make an honest attempt to work on their marriage. HEA with it being a year since h finding out, them going to couples therapy during that year, them happy and her just having a baby boy.
Descriptive Sex: Yes
Final thoughts: This was an ok quick read. Since this was my first book from this author I will definitely check out more by her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My issue here is how unsupportive her family was, especially her father. He was not looking at the situation from a father's perspective but as a fellow unfaithful husband's. That's not what Luna needed in the moment, and it sucks that he kept trying to force that perspective on her. Even her mother didn't react like a mother and instead reflected on her experience and tried to push that narrative onto Luna. This isn't the support that Luna was looking for. Her brother, at first, reacted the same, but he came around to give Luna what she needed instead of telling her what he thought she should do.
And the BBS (betraying body syndrome) here makes me gag.
I need a Lane and Dani in my life. ❤️ Does Dani get a book? Who was the guy at the club?
I was out of this book as soon as his wife said ‘ this big tough man who I’ve never seen shed a tear is losing himself completely in my arms. I feel the depth of his pain because I’m in pain too’
He cheated (blow job) He told her She forgave him She slept with him 24 hrs later
Damn! That was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride! I wasn’t sure how much my heart could be put through.
Right from the very start we are thrown into a story that already has emotions at a very high level. The anger that is consuming Luna has put her at her ultimate breaking point when it comes to her husband. We could feel her pain. It was palpable and gut-wrenching.
You want to hate Luna’s husband Roman but with every truth he reveals, and his gut-wrenching heartbreak over the possibility of losing Luna, slowly will melt your heart towards him. He shows how sorry and remorseful he is and that he is 100% willing to change so that she can forgive him.
“I love you with every piece of me, and need you more than I need air to breathe. Let me prove to you that I can make amends.”
Their pain, anger and heartbreak was just raw, gritty and brutal. I hurt, my heart hurt, and I couldn’t stop sobbing continually throughout their story.
The daily ups and downs that they go through is so real and relatable that it’s almost like we can picture us in their story.
Luna and Roman’s journey was beautifully written, and resonated deeply with me. Not everyone will choose the path that Luna chose but not everyone’s relationship is the same. In the end, Luna chose what was best for her heart and her family and it was a beautiful ending.
“Tonight is a fresh start. We walked through the flames and now we would forge our way through the ashes.”
This book is not for the faint of heart. It’s very emotional and I had very strong feelings towards the characters and the situation. I’ve never been through anything like this, and have always been confident I would never put up with it if it happened to me. But this book showed me that redemption is possible if people are willing to put in the work. Especially the one who wronged his wife and marriage.
I really felt for Luna and all she was dealing with with her kids and life. As a busy mom myself, it’s so easy to get wrapped up and lose sight of yourself. Especially when there’s little acknowledgment or appreciation for ALL that you do. Luna showed just how strong she was and how much she could overcome.
Roman really did redeem himself throughout this book. He put in the work to win back his wife and show her that he learned from his mistakes and wanted his future to be her and their family. I loved that about him. He recognized his shortcomings and actually worked to make himself better.
I loved this novella and appreciate Ryan Marie for touching on this subject in such a sensitive and real way. For Roman, she showed me that redemption could be possible and he earned his second chance.

Tropes: Marriage on the rocks Second Chance Groveling Interracial couple Mental Health rep Redemption
Not many books have the ability to hit me in the feels right away, and with Through The Fire, I swear I was crying before the first chapter ended. I felt so many different emotions while reading this book; there were times that I was so angry with Roman and others were I was sobbing through chapters with him.
I don’t have too much of an issue with cheating tropes like many do, for me its almost therapeutic with my own past, weird I know, but if I could encourage you to read this book, to fight though the cheating, the emotion and growth on the other side is seriously so intense and the journey to get “through the fire” is so realistic and as messy as it should be.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. Was it hard to read those first few chapters, yes it was. But I got through it because this is very real, not every marriage is perfect. Marriage is hard work and has lots of ups and downs. Now Roman and Luna’s downs were some big ones but once you get the full story it helps a little.
I loved how Luna took control of her emotions and how she handled the other party in the incident. I was right there with her brother rooting for her to give into those rage emotions.
Roman, I felt for him a little. Yes he was in the wrong big time! But he also did redeem himself with how he finally confessed and knew he was in the wrong. I loved that he never once blamed anything on Luna, he knew he was the one that was in the wrong.
Overall this was a heartbreaking but sweet story that shows what it takes to make a marriage work. . . . 4️⃣.5️⃣⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 8/10 recommendation
Cute, quick read about a marriage in trouble with a hubby who got a little too up close & personal with his PA one time (but they didn't go all the way). He fesses up a year later and this story is the aftermath. If you don't like cheating stories or don't think cheaters can be redeemed, stay away. If you like these types of stories & want to see how things play out, then give this a go.
