Sofie Darling

USA Today bestselling author Sofie Darling’s passion for historical romance began in middle school the moment she cracked open Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. An instant and enduring love affair was born.

Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every romance she could get her hands on. Once she realized she simply must write the books she loved, she finished her English degree and set pencil to paper. (Ticonderoga #2 is her quill of choice.)

When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, Sofie enjoys a nice weekend hike, a visit to a crumbling medieval castle whenever she gets the chance, and a slightly codependent relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

Celia Calthorp, the widowed Duchess of Acaster, needs money to sustain her beloved horses and turn her stables into a thriving business. Despite a horrible first marriage, she knows she needs to marry again for money. Gaming hell proprietor Gabriel Siren didn't even realize his place on an arisotratic family tree, but he's thrust into the role when he becomes the new Duke of Acaster. A baragin is stuck between Celia and Gabriel - his sisters' social entry for her stable money - but attraction soon overrides their plans.

This is the first book in the All's Fair in Love and Racing series. I recommend reading in series order because otherwise certain plot points will be spoiled.

Celia begins the book near-jilted, thinking she was about to lock up a friendly marriage of convenience to another horse-loving Duke...but that Duke fell in love and left her in a lurch. Great writing kept me engaged in this story, but Celia is a hard character to like. She was taught that her only value was her beauty and was "sold off" from her unloving father to an extremely old, miserable husband. She's always lived in survival mode and doesn't value herself or her own happiness. Gabriel, however, is very observant and see all this from the beginning. I liked the build up of their relationship, but was frustrated with Celia's hollow excuses near the end and wanted to shake some sense into her...thankfully Gabriel did it for me.

This is only my 9th book by Sofie Darling. I recently just read her Shadows and Silks series and it was so good. I read all 7 books back to back. Now I am going to read all the books out in this series. I am so glad I asked about her in my steamy FB group because she is definitely steamy and has such great depth with her characters and her storylines. Plus I love a good book cover and she has such pretty book covers. 😊

I really enjoyed Celia and Gabriel's story. loved that this was not only different than a normal ton book based mostly on the horse racing. Really loved this couple. Sofie gets so much depth in her characters. I love how they fucked like rabbits. ALL THE TIME. :) I always like a book where the characters "find themselves" and who they are as people and not what is expected of them. A really good read.

A gamble of seductively favourable odds!

How finding the right person can build you up, instill confidence, selfworth and change your outlook, so intrinsically for the better!
A wonderful, well paced, unravelling, romance that sees the focus shifting from the racehorse centred intrigue of book 1 into providing a fascinating backdrop for THE DUCHESS GAMBLE. As horses become the only means of escape, love and suture for renowned beauty, dowager duchess, Celia, from her hideous first marriage. Can she prevent the loss of her greatest love, her horses, to her late husband's debts? In steps self-made, steadfastly capable, walking temptation, Gabriel, the newly appointed 7th Duke of Acaster as he shakes her world and shocks it into life.
Two people whose worlds ordinarily wouldn't have met, collide across the boundaries of age, a duchy, responsibility, a desperate need for security and a heady attraction that ignites and sparks hot, changing everything so deliciously!
Gabriel might be six years younger than Celia's thirty but he's certainly no less of a man and certainly not a boy...Siren in name, Siren in nature!
As awakened passion, burns scorching hot with temptation and crackles with irresistibility, wit, and intimacy-laced-addictive chemistry, that thrums and hits you all the more deeply, as vulnerability shakes loose fear and attempts to erect cold walls between these two, so starved of the tender touch of connection, arouses a lightning spark of magnetic proportions and keeps you invested!
I really enjoyed the heady, shifting to steamy desire between these two, the honest boldness mixed with skittish colt nervousness, the push and pull connection and desperate need that slowly took root and blossomed. As misperceptions quickly crumbled and need rose with fascination to uncover something real and true...if only she believed she deserved it! That had her almost dismissing the deep intuitive understanding they were revealing in each other, the beauty that ran beneath the superficial and the adoring strength, intelligence and resilience they saw within, that radiated from the page and had me pulling my hair out, tummy in knots frustrated at Celia's stubborness in her lack of selfworth and heart-aching insecurities and swooning at his tender, adoring, ability to see beneath that fear and what she was raised to believe and see in her self, not to mention, his scorching touch!
A tale that left me with a warm glow and happy tears glistening upon my cheeks! A highly recommended, well written, romance to savour! Most enjoyable!

The Duchess Gamble is the second book in Sofie Darling's All's Fair in Love and Racing series and can be read as a standalone novel, but there are a few characters from the first book, Odds on the Rake, namely Gemma and Rakesley, who reappear in this story. For that reason, some readers may prefer starting at the beginning of the series before reading this book.

This is a beautifully written love story between two people who never thought they'd find or need love in their lives, and the author deftly shows us via Gabriel and Celia's story that with love, one can grow, change, become stronger and thrive rather than just survive in this life.

Celia Calthrop, the Dowager Duchess of Acaster, was married at a young age to a lecherous man 56 years her senior, the 6th Duke of Acaster. Now a widow, she runs the stables at Ashcote Hall and finds her niche and her passion in horse racing. But when she finds that a new duke has unexpectedly been found to succeed her deceased husband and that he intends to sell her beloved stables, she makes a deal with the younger, dashing, gaming hell owner turned 7th Duke of Acaster, Gabriel Siren, to hold onto the estate for a few more years while she builds her stud operation and, in return, helps bring his two younger sisters into Society. What develops between them is an unquenchable desire, as they are drawn together, their chemistry sizzling, their vulnerabilities laid bare to each other.

Both characters are extremely likable, and I appreciated that Gabriel is so patient and steadfast when it comes to understanding Celia, her stubbornness and how her past has shaped her self-image and her outlook. Celia's struggle to heal the scars left in the wake of her horrible marriage is handled delicately and with care by the author. Their love scenes are steamy but always tender and indicative of a deeper connection between them rather than merely physical attraction. The novel is so well-written and engaging that the pages kept turning faster and faster, as I wanted to find out how Gabriel and Celia would overcome the obstacles to their love. When the end came, I was rooting for their happily ever after. I finished this book with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart.

This was a gorgeous read, and I enjoyed it immensely.

What an entertaining story!

Celia is a widowed Duchess and is mad about horses. Gabriel is a gaming hell owner who just inherited a dukedom.

The characters in the story are witty, the dialogue is smart and sassy. The connection between them is palpable and sizzling.
Celia has some issues of self worth, she’s been through emotional trauma by the men in her life. But Gabriel is not like them and he comes through time and again.

This was so good that I finished it in one sitting! Brilliant work by the very talented Sofie Darling, I highly recommend this book!.

Tried a sample of this to see if I wanted to buy it. The horse racing element was just a bit much for me. The set up was interesting as the heroine was beautiful but not at ease in her own skin. The hero was young but clearly shrewd and capable. I think I’m just not that into horseshoe racing. Theresa Romain did a horse racing series too and I was never fully into it either. So this is a “it’s not you, it’s me” thing.

The Duchess Gamble. My fellow readers. Cecilia and Gabriel are the funniest and most romantic couple that I have read so far this year. The writer had me up all night reading, trying my darndest to see where this story was going. I knew the out come of a happy romance, but how they got their was in question. With having Tessa as a sister-in-law would scare anyone, but Cecilia seem like the both woman can be two pees in a pod.
Cecilia had her ownership of her horses and Tessa had the gentleman’s club. Both woman worked hard and rein in Gabriel when the moment was needed. The romance seemed to me like a very nice sweet. I had a wonderful time reading the story. It was very entertaining.
I give this story two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

At first it did not hold my attention, but I loved the later part of the book. It was a raw, and complex story. The characters were flawed and real, and the social aspect of the book very well done. Overall, I love it even if it took some pages to do so!

Gabriel Siren is the new Duke of Acaster. He is the co-owner of THE ARCHANGEL gambling hell with his older sister. Celia is the Dowager Duchess of Acaster. She will do anything to keep her horses, even make a bargain with the new duke. What they discover, is the need they develop for each other. It's an explosive relationship between a couple that burns up the pages at every encounter and not just sexual. Darling keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating will they or won't they. An older woman and a younger man, it doesn't matter when it comes to love.
So hot it will burn your fingers.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The Duchess Gamble is the 2nd book from the "All's Fair in Love and Racing" series.
I enjoyed reading this book. I loved reading snippets of Tessa Calthorp, the Duke of Ormond, and other minor characters. It was fascinating reading the story from the perspective of a different leading couple.
I adored Gabriel Calthorp (Siren), the 7th Duke of Acaster, and felt akin to his character. He always led his life through logical reasoning and had great values as a man (something that even men of today's world seem to be lacking!). Another aspect of his character that endeared me to him was that he never engaged in any intimate relationships with women, even though it was considered acceptable for men to have some sort of sexual experience. He never felt entitled to having a woman just because he had money and was of noble blood. Nor did he think himself superior just for being a man. He refused to engage in the depraved behaviour of some of the men of the ton, because it wasn't respectable, and he always thought about the reputation of his sisters; hence why he respected women more than his peers.

Unfortunately, I cannot say I have the same adoration for Celia Calthorp (the Dowager Duchess of Acaster through marriage). Having endured an abusive marriage to a man in his eighties while she was in her late teens, it is no wonder she has such negative views on the idea of marriage. I did admire her resilience in enduring such a relationship in order to have security, and her thorough knowledge of horse-breeding and raising; this shows she has intelligence. However, she has made some astronomically stupid decisions, and some of her thought processes lean into the moronic.
For starters, when she found out that Gabriel hadn't been intimate with anyone, she immediately had the notion that she must have him or try him out, as if he was an apple that hadn't been bitten into or wanted to try him out like a new sweater. Her view of him as something shiny, new, and untouched was nauseating, especially when she herself hated being treated like an object or constantly referred to herself as damaged goods, blemished, or used. To make matters more toxic, she was continuously in denial of her feelings for him. She lied to his face when she told him that she would never marry, and yet in the same breath, formulated plans to marry the Earl of Wrexford (some young pup that kept giving her cringey attention), while she was still in a sexual relationship with Gabriel. I get that her sexual experiences with her previous husband were traumatic and nauseating, but that didn't justify her using Gabriel for sex, especially when she was never going to commit to the man.

Sexual exploitation aside, her constant woe is me attitude about her lot in life, refusing to believe anything good could happen to her, even though good situations were literally staring at her in the face (how blind is she?), and her refusal to actually take a leap of faith and do something about her lot in life was tiresome and unappealing. Her defeatist attitude not only hurt the one who cared for her the most, but it also almost made her make the dumbest decision of her life. Thank goodness for her cousin trying to shake some sense into her before things became too late.
I am a little disappointed that things worked out so well for her and that she got away with a simple "can you forgive me" after treating Gabriel like a dildo. He should have made her prove her love for him by making her work hard to win his trust back; I certainly would have, or rejected her outright for using me!
Poor Gabriel, he certainly deserved better, but at least he's happy now, and hopefully she stays devoted to him.

Can't wait to read the next book.

Bauble. Trinket.

Her Grace, Lady Celia, the Sixth Duchess of Acaster, was raised as a pawn for her wealthy father. A disposable piece to be used to gain prominence and society position within the ton. Although we don't hear much about or meet her father, we can't help be dislike him. Yes, the times called for it, but it can still rankle that women were and can still be seen as decoration. No thought or consideration for their hopes, dreams, intelligence or needs. When faced with this the woman has to feel less than worthy of anything other than emptiness.

Gabriel Siren is far wiser than his 24 years. He has been responsible for providing for his three sisters most of his life. It is a responsibilty he takes very seriously and has been very successful. He has no thoughts beyond this. SURPRISE! He is now the Seventh Duke of Acaster through some very obscure twigs on their family tree.

This is a story of a woman misused, mistreated and left feeling impure and unworthy of love. It is about a man, young according to Celia, who see past the beautiful exterior Celia presents to society, but only after having to reevaluate his original opinion that she was a "Title Hunter." He sees her worth, her intelligence, her gentle grace and strives to help her see her worth. With horses and horse racing as the backdrop Gabriel was able to help Celia find the belief in herself and her worth.

The secondary characters were lovely, Gabriel's sisters and Celia's cousin. The male characters were servicable, not truly playing any real part in the story until the very end and Lord Wrexford throws a bit of a knick in the works. I was surprised, sort of, that Celia's father was not at least "seen" somewhere along the story line. Her marrying into society was SO important to him that he marries her to a man 56 years her senior. Not that there would have been any familial love shated, but to not continue to use the connection and add some tension within the story and a chance for Gabriel to defend Celia and her worth...i feel a chance was lost. I am interested to see if we get a stories about the newly minted Lady's Tessa, Saskia and Viveca. Hints were made of possibilities for Tessa.

This was a story for an afternoon with a blanket, cuppa tea, and a fire going in the background. I was not fully vested in the characters because there was no outside stressors or villainy to bring them together, just a mutual passion. I saw places that tension could have been brought leaving them to come together in a common fight, but...no. I did like the banter and Celia's cousin, Eloise. She was feisty, fun and you knew where she stood and she was protective of Celia.

This is a very moving story. If you have not read the first book, I would suggest you do. It will give you insights into some things that happen in this book. You can read and enjoy this book just as it is too. This is the story of Celia, Dowager Duchess of Acaster. She has survived a ten-year marriage to a monster. The only thing that gave her some peace was her beloved horses and their stable. She is a true horsewoman involved in everything to do with her beloved animals along with the racing and breeding. Riding is the only time she can be at peace. Unfortunately, her late husband left everyone with lots of debts and no money to pay them. He left the stables to her, but she had to find a way to keep them. With no heir to the estate, the future is up in arms. She had a plan to save her, but the duke up and ran off with another. (Odds on the Rake book one) Much to her surprise a long-distance heir is found and now is the new Duke of Acaster and plans to sell her home! He is not only handsome as sin itself, cocky and young too. When Celia and Gabriel first meet, he can’t believe how beautiful she is and how young. He was expecting the widow to be as old as the duke was. How wrong he was. These two start out as oil and water, but they both need something from the other. Gabriel needs someone in the know to help his younger sister enter the ton and society as Lady's now. Celia needs help to keep her horses and win the upcoming races. Both make a gamble on the other. Oh, if they only knew what was coming. Celia has never been loved, not by her father who only saw her as a means to something he wanted. Not by her nasty husband who wanted to break her. She has learned to hide behind a faceless smile. Gabriel knows how to read people and sees what no one else does. As our couple clash wills and fight the attraction and desire growing between them. Others are always getting in the way. What a fun, sad endearing story till the end. I loved the “flower” part haven’t laughed that hard in a long time! The bauble is the other part where you will want to slap someone. The last couple of chapters will have you on the edge of your seats. This is a fast-moving story with loss of secrets, twist and turns. Anything can happen when one does not feel good enough about themselves. Don’t miss this story it will teach you just how hard women no matter their station had no choices in their life's. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. This is a very steamy story for those who would like to know.

Once again the author charms us with a lovely romance between an unlikely pair, but not nearly as unsettling as the duke who married his jockey in “Odds on the Rake”. Nevertheless, we find out what happens to the duchess who hoped for a proposal from the Duke of Rakesley, a stables owner like herself. After being married to an abusive, lecherous 70 y/o duke for 10 years, 30 y/o Celia Calthorp has no interest in marriage for love. Upon his death, the Duke of Acaster left Celia nothing but her beloved horses - her only passion. She’s in a quandary, because she lacks the funds to sustain herself and her stables.

In another part of town, 24 y/o Gabriel Siren is successfully operating the Archangel, the most prestigious gaming hell in London. He and his 3 sisters are shocked to find out that he just inherited an unwanted title - Duke of Acaster. When he goes to look over his newly acquired estate, he meets with the stunningly gorgeous Dowager Duchess of Acaster, Celia. This businessman, whose passion is numbers, sees a promising investment and a bartering opportunity. Celia can assist him in “bringing out” his sisters while teaching them the etiquette necessary for ladies of the ton in exchange for financing her stables. What will happen when a new passion presents itself that neither has experienced? The author endears us to a plethora of appealing characters besides the MC’s: Eloise Fairfax - cousin and best friend of Celia, Tessa - Gabriel’s eldest sister who co-owns and runs the Archangel, Saskia and Viveca - Gabriel’s teenage sisters, Lady Beatrix St. Vincent - best friend of Lady Artemis Keating (Rakesley’s sister), Mr. Blake Deverill - business associate of Gabriel, Marquess of Ormonde - an undisclosed relationship with Tessa, Earl of Wrexham - enamored with Celia.

In addition to this supporting cast, readers will be intrigued with the tragic backgrounds of both MC’s, each uniquely different. Readers will surely admire Gabriel for his ability to recognize Celia as an intellectual equal. But will she be willing to trade a lifetime of security as a “bauble” for moments of being cherished? Read this passionate romance. It’s another gem by a “Darling” author.

The synopsis for the book is more than sufficient to tell you about this story's fabulous main characters. I can add that the emotion that Sophie Darling can make you feel through her writing is amazing. There were times, especially when our heroine, Lady Celia, talked about how her late husband treated her, that I was close to tears. It wasn't just that she went through those things, but it was the reaction of our hero, Gabriel, that really hit me. There is nothing I love more than when a man feels so protective of the woman he loves or is coming to love.

This book held me captive from start to finish because I was easily immersed in the characters' lives, not just Celia and Gabriel, but his sisters' as well. Another thing that I really enjoyed was how much of the story involved horses and horse racing. There was quite a funny scene or two involving Gabriel riding as well!

So we have a will they won't they scenario between our H&H when it comes to having a future together. We have sad moments, funny moments, triumphant moments, tender ones, and some very passionate ones. If you don't like steamy romances then you might want to give this story a miss. No don't do that, it's too good for that, just fast forward past the intimate times. Myself, I enjoyed the passion between Gabriel and Celia, they certainly introduced each other to lust as well as love.

I am more than happy to recommend this book and may just gift it to a few friends this Christmas.

After a brief introduction to Celia in Odds on the Rake, I was happy to hear the next story in the series was about her. Celia loves her horses, her cousin, & keeping up her placid Duchess reputation. After enduring a disaster of a first marriage, she’s in need of security & money in the worst way.
Gabriel Siren loves his sisters, making money, & order in his life. Celia disrupts his control in the worst way.
When they agree to partner in a beneficial business arrangement, they soon realize their mutual attraction is temptation they have to work hard to ignore & avoid.
Until they can’t…
Wow to the tension & sparks whenever Celia & Gabriel are in close proximity. Their banter is very entertaining. Fun to have an interesting twist with their age difference & sexual awakenings. Indeed, there’s much “…kindling aching to be lit into flame.”
I like that each has confidence in things the other could benefit from learning. Unfortunately, things don’t always go as they ought. Celia really made me growl for a bit. Oh, she’s stubborn. I’m glad Gabriel’s equally driven to get past her insecurities. This story seems to open up so many other options for future books. I’m excited to see what’s next in this series! Tessa, what have you been up to? Thanks to the author & Booksprout for allowing me read an advance copy.

I loved this couple and their story which captivated and effortlessly transported me to the sport of horse racing in the heart of Regency England. The plot centers around the intriguing lives of Celia Calthorp, a widowed duchess with a passion for her horses and horse racing, and Gabriel Siren, a gaming hell owner who unexpectedly inherits a dukedom.

Celia is a strong, independent woman who is determined to save her stables, while Gabriel is a man thrust into a world of nobility and responsibility he never wanted. Their relationship evolves beautifully throughout the book; they are both so likable and their interactions are filled with witty dialogue and sizzling chemistry. Sofie masterfully crafts a world filled with its strict rules, social pressures and the thrill of all facets of horse racing. The wedding was sigh-worthy, the epilogue was cry-worthy, and the plot is fast-paced and engaging, which kept me hooked until the end.

In conclusion, "The Duchess Gamble" is a charming and engaging historical romance that offers a unique blend of love, humor, a dash of adventure and a lot of heart. It can be read as a standalone, but it is also a great continuation of the series, as it features some familiar characters from the previous book, Odds on the Rake. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Celia, now a dowager duchess at age 30 just wants to keep her horses after being left with her late husbands debts. The new Duke of Acaster, Gabriel Siren, just wants to keep his life the way he has known it, now that he is duke, he's got a whole new set of problems starting with the dowager duchess.
Anything from Sofie Darling is sure to be a great read. Even if you aren't thrilled with the ins and outs of horse racing (like me), this was still a thrilling and interesting read. These two character had a lot of chemistry and they grow so much throughout the book. I went from not really liking either one of the main characters to totally invested. We got a glimpse of them in book one and this book does mention some of the characters from book one but it can be read as a stand alone. The steamy scenes are hot and the banter between Gabriel and Celia is great. There is a lot of wordiness, a lot of the characters being in their heads but that aside, the story flows and you get caught up in the scenes. The epilogue is cute, even if a bit unbelievable.
Overall, a must read for fans of Sofie Darling.

Tropes: gaming hell owner inherits a dukedom; older MFC/younger MMC; virgin MMC
Steam level: 3
Profanity: a few "f-bombs"
Possible TW's: mentions of the abuse Celia suffered in her first marriage
2nd book in the series, fine as a standalone

This is a fast read by an author I've enjoyed over the years. The writing style is direct and the dialog clever. I loved the chemistry between the MC's, with Gabriel hitting the sweet spot as far as sexy younger MMC's go. Many secondary characters are either introduced or re-introduced from the first book, but no one is particularly well-developed except Celia's friend Eloise.

I was expecting more conflicts to get in the way of the HEA, but mainly the issue is Celia, who is portrayed as smart and tough at first (I loved the scenes where she took charge with Gabriel) but toward the end she's really her own worst enemy. I found Wrexham to be a weird foil for Gabriel, as he's even younger and much more immature, while Celia repeatedly holds Gabriel's youth against him. I think an older, established man would have been more of a threat.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the first book in the series--that had simply more "meat" to the plot--but if you're looking for a few hours of enjoyable steam, this fits the bill.

First of all, read the official blurb for this story - there’s really no better way to summarize this captivating tale!

Celia is very stubborn in her conviction she’s damaged goods, unable to bring anything to fruition and unworthy of love. A beauty from a very young age, she was taught to be and traded as a commodity by her industrialist title-hunting father.
Gabriel was fortunate to get the best possible education, but he was a scholarship student and the others made sure he never forgot. Turning his mathematical skills into a profitable endeavour, he managed to raise his sisters and keep a roof over their heads.

They both assume to know exactly what the other is about - of course they’re both completely wrong - but it’s the wonderfully playful and witty way in which this tale peels back these characters’ layers that utterly captivated me.
He’s younger than she is, and she uses it against him time and time again, but he’s very tenacious, mature and sensible. There’s a certain dynamic - other than their obvious sizzling chemistry that leaps off the page - between these MCs. It’s honest and direct, grounded, with a dry sarcastic twist. They’re made for each other. He knows it, everyone knows it. Everyone that is, except Celia. She needs to hit almost rock bottom, before finally giving in.
This story is beautifully written, rather steamy and incredibly romantic underneath it all, always on the move and a very, very entertaining read!

After ten years in an abusive relationship with a man 56 years her senior, the recently widowed Duchess of Acaster – Celia - has invested everything she has in her horse stud. However, she now finds herself in financial dire straits. She would prefer not to remarry but, if she does, it will be a marriage of convenience to give her the financial security to keep her stud going. She most certainly does not want any emotional entanglements. Meanwhile, Gabriel Siren’s world is turned on his head when he learns he is the new Duke of Acaster. He and his family have risen above poverty through sheer hard work and business acumen and he neither needs nor wants this title and all the responsibility that goes with it. He already has plenty of work to do keeping on top of all his business interests and is far too young to be thinking of marriage or getting sidetracked by a woman. Set against the vibrant world of horseracing, this is a steamy romance in which, despite their best efforts, Gabriel and Celia are unable to resist one another.

Celia was married off by her parents to a much older Duke. She is now a Dowager Duchess after the death of her husband, the one good thing of her marriage was that he left her the horse stable that she ran. Celia feels she needs to get married for security and money so she can keep her horse stable.

Gabriel Siren runs a gambling den; and he has a knack for making money. He is a partner is the Race of the Century and Celia hopes to have a horse in the race. Gabriel life is turned upside down when he finds out he is now the Seventh Duke of Acaster.

Gabriel shows up at Ashcote Hall where Celia is, and she thinks he is the painter she was going to hire to paint her horses. Gabriel tells her that is he going to sell the place since it's unentailed.

Gabriel tells her he will front her for three years if she will get his sisters ready to debut to the ton. Her cousin Eloise Fairfax helps her with it.

The Banter between Celia and Gabriel shows their thoughts and feelings between them. But is it enough? Will she give up love for what she feels is security?

Gabriel Siren is content running the Archangel gambling hell with his older sister. Then, he gets a genealogy lesson and learns that he is the new Duke of Acaster. Celia is the Duchess of Acaster. Her late husband was a skunk, her father just as bad. She has an exemplary stable and loves her horses and the sport of racing. When they meet, they are almost immediately at odds, and strongly attracted to each other. His business sense and her knowledge of horses and racing offer the opportunity to work with, rather than against each other. Separately, Celia and Gabriel are personable, intelligent, and expert in their fields of interests. Together they have dynamic chemistry. Their intimate moments absolutely sizzle. They have a romantic connection and more. Will they be able to solve the issues surrounding each of them and find love and a happy future? This is a delightful story of finding and accepting love. The characters are likable and engaging. Nice addition to the series.

First I love how these two stories interwoven and the characters have to face each other! I thought there was some rule about marrying widows in the Ton but this definitely does not apply!
We have a young but extremely intelligent Gentleman Gabriel Siren aka Duke of Acaster seventh to be exact is some generations removed!
Celia aka Duchess of Acaster has survived all with a smile! She survived a rejection from Rakesly and a vicious brutal marriage for 10 years to a monster!
But can she survive a visceral attraction to a honest and forthright young man who’s willing to give her the freedom to live her life and use her gifts!
I understand that Celia looked for safety and security when she never had it! She also never had a partner either!
When she is offered both she runs and does something stupid! Thank goodness it was not irreversible!
Gabriel is swoon worthy and a man of his word! He doesn’t need to prove himself he already had a very successful business and was ridiculously wealthy before becoming a Duke!
These two are stubborn enough to deserve a HEA! Bravo

Wonderfully well written, full of love, romance, steam, action, drama, suspense, with lots of twists and turns. All characters are strong and developed to this story. Celia is a widow who has finally escaped from a terrible marriage. The only thing she is able to keep is her horses. She has been working with them for many years, saving her mind. Gabriel owns a gambling business and is tracked down by solicitors to be told he is the next Duke. He plans to sell the untitled property but meets Celia. At first he thinks she was a title hunter but as he gets to know her, he finds out how badly she was treated by both her husband and father. Throw in a weak mommy's boy into the mix and WOW. This author is able to hold your attention till the end of a fabulous story. Such a story-weaver she is. Really can't wait for the next one. Would strongly recommend this book and the rest of her books.

Will they gamble on love?

She learned long ago to keep her emotions under control. So did he.
She plans to never marry (again). So does he.
She just wants peace and security, not passion. So does he.
Then they meet and all their preconceived notions are destroyed.
Will they each take a gamble on love?

Overall I enjoyed The Duchess Gamble by Sophie Darling.

It was a fun read with really good characters, great dialogue, sizzling passion and a very happy ending.
If not for the wordiness of the characters thoughts and mental debates, this would have been a five star read.

Content 411: Although this book only contains one mild swear word (d*mn), it also contain two uses of the “f” vulgarity. The sex scenes in this book are explicit, and there are references to domestic violence that could be a trigger for some readers.

What a wonderful story. Celia Calthorp, Duchesss of Acaster was a widow and just wanted to be able to run her horse stable with no interference from any man. Gabriel Siren is the owner of an exclusive gambling hall and suddenly becomes the Duke of Acaster and now owns all the property that Celia’s former husband owned. Including her beloved home where her stables are. When the two finally meet, hidden sparks fly between the two, even though they aren’t completely aware of it yet. But the fight is on for Celia to hold onto her stable, when Gabriel wants to sell the farm and the stables. How will these two battle it out, without involving their hearts?

Perfect couple to pair together. Celia needed someone who would love and respect her, unlike her first husband. And Celia needed someone to love other than her horses. They blended together very nicely, and it was fun watching them fall in love. Looking forward to the next story in this series.

Entertaining and romantic, I found the background information to this book on horse racing, very interesting. Celia Calthorp had a raw deal in her marriage to the elderly and mean-spirited Duke of Acaster and the only good thing to come out of it was her beloved horses and stables. Unfortunately, the new Duke wishes to be rid of any property that seems unprofitable, bringing him into conflict with Celia. However, Gabriel Siren is not an unreasonable man and when Celia makes a deal with him, he becomes involved with what he sees as an investment. Gabriel is somewhat younger than Celia and she feels uncomfortable with the feelings she is starting to have for him. Celia's need for security almost leads her on the wrong path, but fortunately, both she and Gabriel come to their senses in time. I received a copy of this enjoyable romance as a gift from BookSprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.
