Interesting history of the therapeutic use of essential oils, resins, etc. in the first part. I was surprised the author included ancient Egypt and Greece, but neglected the ancient Middle East. There is much in the Bible and in other texts that have a bearing on the subject. It is still a useful and wide ranging discussion of essential oils, their manufacture, and their uses. I am not sorry I read the book!
Great book for beginners and an easy read. I have read several in the last few weeks and this was one of the best. It is not all inclusive, but as a beginner, too much information can be overwhelming. I think it would make a wonderful gift as well.
I started using Sharon's book in my introductory module on aromatherapy this year and had great feedback with students finding the book accessible and easy to follow.
I recommend whom wants to get a basic overall knowledge in aromatheraphy. I wish i could find more details, tricks and scientific (chemical) background in oils.
Now this is a book that smells really, really good! Probably because all of those who borrow it actually rub the oils while reading it. I found it reallybinteresting, especially the part of particular advice for a handfull of popular minor ailments. Realy informative, written with care, in a high quality paper and with beautiful illustrations. Definitely a must-have.p
This would be a perfect beginners book. It is written like you are chatting with a friend about essential oils. Good background information. A lot of good safety information. A detailed look at 40 essential oils. Not much on recipes but I would expect that in this book, but you are learning enough to make a few things and use essential oils for a variety of reasons on your own.
Recently I got curious about essential oils, so I checked out this book (in eBook format) from the library. A decent book for beginners, perhaps more for beginners who want to pursue aromatherapy.
