About the author

Rowland Frederick Hilder OBE was an artist. Born in Great Neck, New York, his family moved back to England when the war broke out. Goldsmith’s College in London where he met his wife, the botanical illustrator Edith Blenkiron. He was a watercolourist, and was commissioned by Shell several times.
