Liebe und Lügen vertragen sich nicht gut. Chen Qingye will sich seine Homosexualität nicht eingestehen und jetzt, wo er und Tang Tang eine Fake-Beziehung führen, weiß er nicht, wie er zugeben soll, dass seine Gefühle für seinen Fake-Freund echt sind. Der ebenso ahnungslose Tang Tang hat ebenfalls heimliche Gefühle, die er nicht auszudrücken weiß, und sie scheinen mit der Zeit nur noch stärker zu werden. Kann ihre aufkeimende Liebe jemals zu etwas Echtem erblühen, wenn keiner von beiden den Mut hat, die Wahrheit zu sagen?

Review goes for the entire series

This one was a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, the art is absolutely adorable!! the chibis, the soft watercolor palette, all the little visual details were honestly what kept me turning the pages. It’s cozy, funny and cute and the overall vibe has that soft, heartwarming feel that’s easy to melt into when you just want something simple and fluffy.

But the pacing? So painfully slow it almost lost me a few times. Like, I love a slow burn, I really do, but this wasn’t just slow…it was almost stagnant. There were so many chapters where it felt like nothing really moved forward. The mutual pining was sweet at first, but after a while it started to drag, especially since we as readers know they like each other and yet the story dances around any real progress until the very end. And even then, the confession felt rushed and kind of emotionally flat. No real buildup, no privacy, just suddenly… there.

I didn’t need kisses or full-on romance, but I was hoping for a little more depth in the emotional journey. Some proper development, some intimacy, not necessarily physical, just emotional grounding between the characters. Instead, it felt like things were always on the edge of happening, but never quite got there. Yang Yang and Da He were both cute, but also so frustratingly slow and stuck in their own heads that it started to wear thin.

That said, if you’re in the mood for something soft with beautiful art and can tolerate a very drawn-out romance with minimal payoff, it might still be worth picking up. It’s not terrible!! Just not the kind of story that sticks with you once it’s over. More like something to fill the time than something to feel deeply about.

Este webtoon me gustó mucho y si bien su comienzo es algo lento, es hermoso y disfrutas mucho de la lectura y saber que sucederá con los personajes.

El estilo de dibujo me encanta.

Ihr könnt euch gar nicht vorstellen, wie glücklich ich bin, dass ich den Titel endlich lesen kann. So lange habe ich auf eine englische Übersetzung gewartet! Und dann kommt Manlin Manhua und bringt den Titel auf Deutsch heraus! Und dann auch noch als Sonderausgabe in einer so unglaublich schönen Box!

Die Titel „Engraved on my Heart“ und „Checkmate“ kenne ich ja schon. Umso mehr freue ich mich!

Ich habe mich direkt in den Zeichenstil verliebt. Liang Azha hat aus meiner Sicht einen unverkennbaren Zeichenstil. Ich liebe diesen Aquarellstil. Es wirkt einfach so verträumt! SO SCHÖN!

Die Box kommt mit tollen Extras: Lesezeichen und Standee. Ich finde es toll, dass Manlin für den Standee bewusst ein Motiv gewählt hat, das nichts mit der Geschichte zu tun hat. Ich hätte es schöner gefunden, wenn es ein Diorama gewesen wäre. Aber da hat mir Manlin auch direkt erklärt, dass es dann nicht mehr in die Box gepasst hätte und dementsprechend teurer geworden wäre. Klingt einleuchtend.
Das Design der Box finde ich auch total süß: Angefangen vom Druck, der bis zum Magnetverschluss geht und dann noch die süßen Chibis. Den Magnetverschluss finde ich viel besser und auch leichter zu öffnen und würde mir fast wünschen, dass andere Verlage nachziehen. Die Box ist auch schmal, was mich auch sehr freut :) Hier stimmt mMn das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis.

Manhua und Box liegen einfach gut in der Hand.

Zum Manhua selbst: Ich erwähne ja immer, dass Manhua einfach Slow Burns sind und man sollte sich dessen immer bewusst sein, wenn man einen BL Manhua kauft.

Tang Tang und Chen Qingye sind einfach so süß zusammen und man sieht als Außenstehender schon, dass die beiden etwas füreinander empfinden. Tang Tang kann ein bisschen frustrierend sein, aber beide haben Angst, ihre Gefühle zuzugeben und damit ihre Freundschaft aufs Spiel zu setzen.
Schön finde ich, dass die beiden hier Rückenwind aus dem Umfeld bekommen und damit auch ein zweites Paar angeteasert wird. Auf die bin ich schon sehr gespannt.

Besonders bemerkenswert finde ich auch, dass Manlin uns wirklich jede Anrede beibehält und auch erklärt. Eventuell könnte man anstatt eine Fußnote ja ein Glossar verwenden. Aber das ist nun wirklich meckern auf hohem Niveau :)

Amo alla follia lo stile artistico di questo autore, è tutto così delicato e davvero bellissimo! La storia sarà pure "scontata" ma è dolcissima, mi ha già catturata e non vedo l'ora di andare avanti 🥹😍

Bevor ich auf irgendetwas anderes eingehe: Der Zeichenstil ist einfach super schön! Liebe, dass es wie Aquarell wirkt. Und auch das mit den Schäfchen ist super niedlich. So, nun zur Story. Der Titel sagt ja schon alles über die Handlung bzw. das Start-Setting, von daher kann man sich nicht beschweren, dass die Anfänge der Beziehung der beiden auf Lügen beruhen. Und rein theoretisch sind es ja nicht mal Lügen: Tang Tang war ja wirklich mit seinen Kommilitoninnen überfordert. Das er Qingye wirklich mag und es verbirgt, bedeutet für mich keine Lüge. Und Qingye hat ihn ja, wie man später erfährt, auch kleine Lügen aufgetischt, um ihn anfangs näher zu kommen. Die Dynamik der beiden ist wirklich süß und ich mag auch die anderen Figuren sehr - anfangs mochte ich die beiden Mädels nicht, die haben sich aber zum guten verändert. Finde auch die zweite Storyline mit dem Didi und Lin Hang ist auch cute. Es ist schon etwas frustrierend, dass die beiden immer noch nicht ehrlich miteinander sind, obwohl die Leute um sie herum ihnen versuchen, den Weg zu zeigen. Und das Ende scheint auch erstmal keine Besserung zu versprechen. Andererseits finde ich es cool, dass mit Qingyes Begründung auch ein gesellschaftliches Thema angesprochen wird. Der erste Band hat mir somit schon sehr gut gefallen und ich freue mich, die Geschichte der beiden bald zu beenden. Hoffe nur, dass es nicht zu dramatisch noch wird, sondern eine gute Lösung gefunden wird.

No puedo creer que estos dos sean tan lindos y a la vez tan tontos🥹🥹♥️♥️.
Es que son tan tiernos y me encanta el dibujo del autor y como hace las expresiones tiernas y los gestos serios. Aunque sí siento que tuvo un comienzo lento, poco a poco empecé a sentir la tensión entre estos dos. Es que son tan lindos Pero a la vez tan tímidos y ambos le temen al rechazo pero no se dan cuenta de que en verdad se aman♥️♥️

I'm so sorry, but this just wasn't for me.

The art style is so, so pretty!
But I really had trouble following the plot. I could hardly follow who was who - I don't really know why, but I feel like it was the sudden switching between viewpoints and the second romance story randomly thrown into the first one at like a 3/4 of the book.

Very cute, is exactly as you imagine. The communication problems, like in any good romance, are endearingly frustrating, the characters are adorable and the art style is beautiful. The Book was overall very light-hearted but still manages to create suspense.
