I received a free ARC of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

What a great follow up to book one! I actually am not sure which book I like more because they’re both five star territory. Each one has its own goal and fulfills it amazingly.

This story gives us a lot more time with Jase and Liya, which I loved. They go through the wringer in this book, make no mistake but their undying loyalty and faith in one another just…🥰🥰

I also loved seeing some old characters again. Reve was one of my favorites in book one and I really like how the character is evolving and changing. It makes sense and I love the direction it’s headed. Can’t wait to see more!

I love my world building so when I got more lore and background in this book, I was all a twitter and couldn’t wait to dive in! The author is careful not to give away too much though. In fact, you’ll be biting at the bit for more when this book ends.

And the villain….I dare not give too much away but what an unimaginable bastard. In the best way!

Can’t wait for book 3!

I loved this book just as much as I loved ReBirth...if not more. Damien was the perfect person to take Time's place as the villain. And let's just say he's everything anyone could love in a villain. I also loved getting to see The Flock taking more of a role in the story. Especially Corvus. I'd have to say him and Reve are two of my favorite characters and I wouldn't be opposed to a companion book about Crow's adventures as a mercenary. But back on topic, the gut punch at the end (plus the impending conflicts) have left me on the edge of my seat for book 3.

A few notes before we start the review. Dreamtaker by Azshure Raine is a revamped version of the book, The 13th Zodiac: Dreamtaker. It is a wonderful story that focuses on Eternity and her companions as they literally fight against Time herself.

Note: This review contains spoilers to the first book in the series - Rebirth. If you haven't read that book yet, I strongly urge you to do so. It's ok, I'll wait ....

.... ok, now on with the review!

"Fate was a power he seldom used. The implications of control over Life and Death were dangerous, even in his hands."

In Azhure Raine's Dreamtaker, Jase Raion is still coming to terms with the power of Fate as well as being the King of Chall. No sooner does he marry Liya, when Damien, the son of the former king, returns and kidnaps Jase and takes him to the distant land of Zendost. Liya, accompanied by Tokei and Reve and Jase's old friend Corvus, risks her life time and again to rescue her husband and bring him back home.

In Damien, Raine has created an antagonist that you can't help but hate. Assisted by the equally vile Dr. Roos, he will stop at nothing to extract revenge and to regain his birthright.

The book wastes little time starting the action and once it starts the roller coaster ride never ends! This sequel is much darker than the original but needed to be in order to fully depict the evilness of Damien.

Raine used this book to further expand the world of Gaea especially the intriguing city of Zendost. I wouldn't mind a future book (or series) set entirely there.

One last thing to mention is I appreciate that the world Raine has created at times seems steeped in an alternate version of the Middle Ages until you realize they have guns, elevators, and (my favorite) dirigibles.

I received a free advanced copy of this book.

Liya, Jase, and company continue to delight in this sequel, with both the world and personal stakes growing into frenzied chaos that I look forward to wrapping up in the third book of the trilogy.

Even when the characters were in a safe place, twists kept the danger constant and the plot wove between the two deftly. Damien made for an excellent villain whose constant cheating to get out of situations felt frustratingly delightful. And the introduction and expansion of the side characters rounded out the cast in a way that felt extensive rather than overwhelming or confusing.

I am definitely excited to jump into book three to see how this all comes together.

The Sequel That Beats It's Predecessor With A Killer Throat Punch

DreamTaker takes the gang of heroes we fell in love with in ReBirth and takes them on a roller coaster through the bowels of hell. In book one, they defeated the Wicked King, Soren...but another more dastardly and evil SOB steps into his place. And, Gods, do I hate the new villain! lol

There were some very well written graphic scenes that gave me full-body cringes, and others that broke my heart. (Yes, Az. If I was wearing mascara during those touching scenes, you would have made it run.)

Thankfully, we have a Corvus! His wit, cleverness, and carefree nature breaks the tension the author builds, but we easily forget how deadly and dangerous he is. Though I still love our Mountain Man, Tokei, Crow has taken the top spot of 'Favorite Character.'

(This is my honest beta review I leave voluntarily.)

I was gifted a copy of this sequel. Jase and Liya's story picks up with an all-new punchable bad guy and a torrent of action and emotions as this multi-POV cast struggles to overcome both internal and external stakes. This story was even more gripping than the first and has me eager for #3!
