Wilmington Football #3

Against The Odds

Rate this book
My life should be fantastic, but my dream job comes with a nightmare boss, my awesome apartment has a creepy landlord, and my friends are all too busy for us to do much of anything. So when my car breaks down on a lonely back road just as a freak snowstorm hits the Philly area, it's the icing on the cake. And who should show up but my college grump of an Jacob Matthews, star tight-end for the Wilmington Beavers. For all his faults, I still trust Jacob to get me somewhere safe before the storm blows through. I wasn’t expecting to have to stay at his house until the roads were clear, with only each other for company… and warmth. I know how this story ends, though— Jacob’s always put football first, and I chose my career over following him all over the country. Except, all the years apart have changed us both. And I’m starting to think that maybe we’re better together, against the odds.

I didn't read the other books in the series. I don't believe you have to, but the charas in the other series do make an appearance.

Cameron and Jacob were lovers before but broke up because Cam wanted something different and didn't wanna do long distances. She wanted her own thing. Now it's present time and Cam's life is okay she has her dream job but it isn't what she wanted. A snowstorm/crash is what has her in the arms of her ex Jacob now there snowed in and getting to know each other again.

Jacob I felt bad since he still had feelings for her but kept his wall up since he didn't wanna get hurt. But then his pov he was thinking something different it felt like he was flip flopping. And it was annoying. There was a push/pull between them since Cam was still unsure they should get back together. But with the flirtyness and teasing, they got through a snowstorm. I do wish it was more spicy, but meh, it's a cute second chance book.

This book is just in time. A winter fairy-tale atmosphere is already felt. And I was very happy to start this season with her😍
Thank u so much Brittany Kelley and her team for the ARC🫶🏼
The book about Jacob and Cameron impressed me from the beginning.
I love the second chance trope where the characters have a future together and how they find their way back to each other.
Cameron was the one who ended the relationship because she wanted to focus on her career.
But even after their breakup, Jacob never forgot about Cameron and always dreamed of a future with her. He is ready to do anything for her🥹
The book is short but very cozy and pleasant to read and to finally feel the atmosphere of winter❄️

Tropes:

♡ Second chance
♡ College sweethearts
♡ Forced proximity
♡ One bed
♡ It’s always been you
♡ Snowed in together

Thank you Brittany Kelley for this ARC!

The most perfect book for this holiday season. I have been waiting like a little child for Christmas to read Cameron and Jacob’s story. Their past always intrigued me so much and this book did not disappoint me at all. It literally felt like a warm cozy hug. The fact that almost the whole story takes place in Jacob’s apartment where they are snowed in together made it feel so realistic and it gave them time to really find each other again.

When Cameron Brooks finds herself stranded in the middle of a snowstorm in a snow filled ditch, the last person she expects to come to her rescue is her ex-boyfriend Jacob Matthews. The ex who she broke up with because of her wanting to pursue her career and the ex she never really got over.

Well this book was a novella but honest to god it didn’t feel like it at all. The character development was so well executed especially from Cam’s side. Jake has always been head over heels for Cam, and the thing I loved in this book was how well he stood up for himself. He knew he was all in with her and didn’t want any less than that. But I do get why Cameron was more hesitant about the whole situation because she blamed herself a lot for how the whole thing was handled.

This novella was overall such a cosy romance to warm all of our readers’ hearts. The story was really fluid and fascinating. And the whole book was just so hard to put down. The best one of the series HANDS DOWN.

This is the perfect book for this winter season, it is short but with adorable characters 🥰

We already knew Jacob and Cameron from the first book, we more or less knew from Cam that they were exes, but we didn't know why they broke up. In this book we obviously find out why and it's understandable and it's something I would do if I saw myself in that position. They meet again when Cam is trapped on the road in the middle of a snowstorm and the one who saves her is none other than Jacob. Fate? maybe, he takes her to his house and they stay trapped there while the storm passes and I'm telling you, these two still have feelings between them and I loved seeing them talk and get everything off their chests, I thought it was very hallmark movie but I LOVE those movies and I LOVED this book even though it's a second chance and we know how I am with those types of tropes.

A book that, even though it is short, gives you all those beautiful feelings like all the books of this author.

Thanks to the author for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

---

4.75 ⭐️ I’m so glad to get this book as it was the side story I was most interested in from the first book. This author was great. All three of these books were interwoven nicely and well-researched. A lot of times sports are ancillary and not much thought to its accuracy is given. There’s still some hugely unlikely scenarios, but you can tell that homework was done.

The Spice level in this book and the first two was top notch and non-cringe like so many books fall victim to. I wish there was more of this series to read.

It was definitely a cute and quick read but I felt like there was something missing.
It was very fast paced, which I get, but at the same time I would love to see some more build up between the main characters.

“Pretty Cameron. My beautiful Cameron.” The words are so soft and sweet, and every loving thing he says to me soothes my scars, smooths the rough edges of my heart. “I missed you so much.”

Thank you to Britanny for the ARC!

I love this series so much and I was so excited for Jacob and Cameron's story!! Brittany did not disappoint and I'm so glad that she kept the story so sweet and low angst.

I just wanted to hug Cameron throughout the whole book, girly was Going Through It and I relate! She just needed some time to detach and figure out what she wanted and who better to spend that time with than Jacob!!! I love him!! So lovely and caring!!

Even though this was a novella, I feel like their relationship was so well developed and we got enough memories of their past to see how much they loved each other and to understand why it all fell apart. Second chance is one of my favourite tropes and Brittany executed it perfectly with Jacob and Cameron!

I loved the mentions of the other characters from the series too! I just love them all so much!! So excited for all of Brittany's future books!!

“Jacob, I’m scared.” She shakes her head, frowning, but at least she’s stopped crying. “I don’t want to… hurt either of us.”
“Then you won’t. We’ll take it one day at a time, and I’ll tell you I love you whenever you need to hear it.”
“As easy as that, huh?” She’s smiling, though, and it’s the best fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
“As easy as that. Against the odds, against all the odds, we’ll make it work.”

Soooo disappointed... For the first two books in the series the author teased Cam and Jacob's story and I really was looking forward to delving more into their characters. How disappointing is it to download this book on my Kindle and find out it's not even 150 pages long! No character development whatsoever, the plot is basically what is said: they are snowed in and in two days all in the world is solved. This story had so much potential: delving into Cam's insecurities and Jacob's lonely vibes, exploring how they felt through the other two books as their friends connected leading them to inevitably reconnect...but no. We got a super short, novella type book that was advertised as a full book. I feel like the author wanted to write about Cam and Jacob initially and then didn't but decided to do it anyway, and it feels rushed, under-developed. Also, I don't see how there could be another book in this series, so it also feels like the epilogue gave nothing and did not offer a conclusion to the series..

A super cozy romance to warm our hearts!!

I began to read this book and I was instantly addicted. The writing is really fluid and the chapters are small so I just wanted to keep reading.

I loved the characters and mainly their humor that made me laugh constantly. Cameron is super funny and I liked that she is independent and strong (honestly I identified with her a lot). Jacob is an athlete and he is the perfect boy. I swear he is SO CUTE, I’m in love with the things he did for her, even the small ones (like buying things in her favourite colour).
That little details were on point!

Well, with this book I think I began to like second chances romance. It was so good to see their love grow again, and even more powerful than before.
Honestly just the type of book I was looking for.

So it’s a really good romance, with amazing and funny characters and a cute plot but with problems present in our society. It’s the perfect book to read if you are in a reading slump and need something cozy and cute to read in just one sit.

Jacob is my favorite😭🤍

I am a sucker for second chance romances and this did not disappoint.

Jacob and Cam were young and had to make some big decisions. Cam's past trauma had led her to break up with Jacob. Years later they are thrown together by fate.

Cam's life is nothing how she hoped it would turn out and Jacob has never been able to move on.

This novella was literally a big warm hug that was exactly what I needed to read. The brutal honesty, the stolen glances, the touches, the love that they both so clearly still feel for one another. Guys this book was everything.

This is the perfect "pallet cleanser" after a tough read. The selfish booknerd in me would have loved to see this as a full novel but I think this was absolutely perfect for them and their story.

brittany’s in her novella era and i LOVE it! i love how brittany fully established them (as characters) & their relationship in such a short amount of time. even if you haven’t read the other wilmington football books & did didn’t know who cameron & jacob were, you wouldn’t be confused about anything

cameron & jacob are the definition of “it’s always been you” and i just loved them so much! they had such good banter and i loved how they remembered everything about each other :) i think they’re my favorite couple in the series so far <33

this was the PERFECT cozy book for the start of the holidays

thank you brittany for the arc!!

Brittany Kelley is my must when it comes to sports romance, seriously, I’ve read all of her books so far & loved each one.

Cam - really put the tear in me, everything about her just instantly took my heart.

And Jake? Mister Dreamy, more like it.

The characters are so well put and fleshed out, their stories equally heart warming & angsty, and the spice? Perfect!
10/10 I recommend!

Also, squealed so hard when Kelsey & Daniel made an appearance, they are the mvp when it comes to opposites attract. So, if you haven’t read the other books in the series. Go read them!

The 3rd installment of the Wilmington Football series, between Jacob and Cameron. Shorter novel but still full of character and spice as they finally get their book after being side characters in the first 2. Cameron was the one who got away for Jacob as she ended their romance when he signed his professional football contract. She’s pursued her journalism career single-mindedly since then and finds herself less than happy. She ends up stranded at the start of a blizzard after spinning out on a patch of ice and totaling her car. Jacob rescues her because romance reasons, and through forced proximity, snowed in shenanigans they end up finally admitting they’re meant to be.

This was a quick read and while the plot was fun, I did not
Vibe with Cameron, I found her indecisive, whiney, and at the age it says she is it’s like she’s stuck in adolescence. I felt like Jacob was a good character didn’t let her make him into a pushover stood his ground and grew. Didn’t allow himself to be used. Although it seemed to me like she thought the grass was greener on the otherside situation.

❤️ ARC REVIEW ❤️

This book was like a perfect little gift wrapped up neatly with a bow.

Brittany’s books sweep me away from reality and plop me right into her stories. Her writing is incredible. Her ability to take two ex-lovers and turn them into second chance sweethearts in just 145 pages blows me away.

Cam and Jake are SO cute - once again Brittany has created a book boyfriend…my list of book boyfriends is getting awfully long 🤣

They way they reunited was so perfect, and I really enjoyed the snowed in trope.

Thank you so much to Brittany and her team for sending me a copy!

This was an amazing novella about second chance love, with well written spice. Second chance isn’t usually what i go for but this book was written so beautifully once again.

I wouldn’t mind being snowed in with someone as great as Cameron either.

Also loved that we got a cameo of Kelsey and Daniel! I live for interconnected series

Just finished reading this book, or I should say novella.
I am not a fan of second chance romance but this was an exception. I loved Jake he was such a gentleman.
Tho I wish it was a bit longer as things escalated quickly, but if you’re looking for a cute second chance romance this could be your next read.

This book was everything I needed!! It was short and sweet. Usually in short books the story is not really developed but in this case it felt extremely well done.
I’m not a fan of second chance but that is another thing that was really well done in this story, you can feel the love they still have for each other and heal with them, understand how they can still be good for each other and how that were always meant to be. I laughed a lot with them but also I felt their pain. I even cried a little I’m not gonna lie. But it was really cute and also… REALLY HOT!! Really, all the book in this series had me giggling and gave me all the feels but this is probably my favourite one.

This such a cute and sweet read! I will say second chance isn't always my favorite, but it was done so well here! You could tell from the beginning that Jacob and Cameron both still had feelings for each other, I loved it! Thankfully they got snowed in together so they could get everything out in the open and talk about everything that happened between them and truly see that they were always meant to be together! These two were so sweet together and i loved their story so much!

What a cute little novella by Brittany Kelley. This story is all sweet, a little bit of spice, and gives off major holiday vibes. ❄️

Cameron and Jacob dated in University but ultimately she decided to end the relationship when he got drafted and she wanted to chase her career dreams. Fast forward a few years and Cameron gets into a bad car wreck - and Jacob pulls her out. When they go back to his house that night, they get snowed in by a big winter storm.

If you like second chance romance, with major it’s always been you vibes you will really like this book.
