My Best Friend's Bossy Brother

Rate this book
I’ve always had a secret crush on my best friend’s mean, cocky older brother. But I never expected him to be my boss.

Alex Reynolds. Star football player, total ladies man, rude, noncommittal…and infuriatingly hot.
My plan is to keep as much distance between us as possible.
No one can ever find out how I feel, not him, and especially not his sister.

But staying away from my sexy boss is easier said than done.
And making out with him was never part of the plan.

Everything about this situation is off-limits but my wildest teenage fantasies are coming true and I’m finding it harder and harder to resist.
And the more we sneak around, the more I’m starting to think he might feel the same way about me.

I know he could break my heart.
I know that if we get caught I could lose my best friend.

For now, our secret is safe with us.
Let’s hope we can keep it that way…

Maya’s eighth-grade crush is also her best friend, Zoe’s older brother, Alex Reynolds. And now, it turns out that the bar Zoe and she have been working at for a few years will now be running under new management. And her bestie didn't bother to give her a heads-up. So, being shocked is an understatement. Now that he is no longer playing football their father who owns the bar believes it would help him feel more grounded. Maya is thinking not to have such a big ego.

Once he walked in the door Zoe walked to Maya telling her what was going on. She’s not happy especially when her and Alex’s history comes rushing back. How he broke her heart. It's then he yells from across the bar for them to stop chatting some customers need tending. Rude much? Anyway. Throughout the time as she works, she looks up, and she finds him watching her. Then, all of a sudden he says, he wants to talk to her. So, she follows him into the office.

His opening line, “Maya, you’ve been slacking off, and I won’t tolerate it.” Once she picks up her jaw she says, “Slacking off? I’ve been working my ass off, Alex,” “The old manager may have taken your slacking, but I won’t. This is my place now, and the time for slackers is over.” “I’m not a slacker, Alex. Just because I can smile and laugh with the customers doesn’t mean I’m not doing my job.” “Fine. You’re the boss. But don’t expect me to be miserable while I do my job.”

She turns around to go back into the bar to start working. She is fuming inside. And now, the tears are threatening to come out. She goes into the restroom and slips down the wall. Alex has made her feel so small and humiliated. Reminding her of the pain she felt years ago. It all came rushing back when Alex left before, and the heartbreak came, too. Only this time, it’s worse. There’s anger she didn't have before, a deep, seated anger at who he’s become. Zoe walks in to check on her, sees been crying, hugs her, and the dam breaks.

There’s no holding it back. Purge is what she did. When it’s done she washes her face and tries to leave but runs into Alex, right outside the bathroom. But, thank goodness, a customer, George is there to save her from Alex’s questions. As to why or if she was crying. Once it slows down, Alex stops her to ask if she has been crying, and she tells him she cut herself cutting limes. She knows she doesn't need his validation. Especially, when she has old George to boost her up. Only now, she can care less what Alex does or says, kind of.

And, that has started to wear on Alex because he can't get her to look at him. Nor to engage her in conversation. Not what he wants. Alex wants more of her than again he always does. See how they find a way to make it to neutral ground. They also find love in the middle of all their craziness.

I'm confused. This was an annoying book. The storyline was perfect. The writing wasn't bad. But it feels like it was written our sequence. He shouts and makes her cry for no reason, and then when it's his POV, it's like the first he's seeing her. She was sitting on the hood of her car but then suddenly he needs to drive her home. She says he was her first kiss but when then when you read their kissing scene, it's their first time. They had this whole non sex sex scene, but when they have sex its like she's seeing him naked for the first time.
Oh, and he's not bossy. He's just her boss... sort of. I expected him to be commanding, domineering, assertive, all Alpha male. Instead, he was unsure and annoying.

A quick read that is pretty well written with it's ups and downs that leads to the Happy ending.
