1 dark secret + 6 furious wizards - one Magi mentor = Mayhem
After somehow keeping the Aether Storm from ripping apart the world, you’d think things would’ve gotten easier for me. Not even a little. With the Senior Magi Council of the Seven Spheres still MIA, and the streets of Boston hiding darker secrets than I ever imagined, I’m still in the thick of it.
And it’s coming back to bite me—hard.
Some of the world’s most powerful Magi don’t like my brand of experimental magic and question my methods from when I—you know—saved the world. Blowing them off isn’t an option. If I do, they’ll look too closely at my friends and make it everyone’s problem.
Missing Magi, hostile peers, and something worrisome going on with my sister means I’ve got a lot of fireballs in the air.
But this time, I’m not alone.
We might be a band of misfit throwaways, but the Aether Outliers are survivors.

I say resounding because Bishop nails this one so squarely on the head that one can hear the phantasm sound.
Seriously, there’s a wealth of imagery in this installment that BEG for a sound effect, squishing, slicing, hammering, melting etc… Bishop’s style, which described in my last review as layers of detail, serves exquisitely well to convey this multisensory impression. Hence my description of the hone-run she hits with this book as resounding.
I also said, at the end of my review, that this was going to be fun. And, oh, was I ever correct! The closing scene to this book had me in stitches. But by far, I would have to say my favorite quote is, “ Shit this IS a cult! Don’t tell mom she was right!”
Out of context that does not appear to be nearly as brilliant as it does within context, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. Better yet, DON’T take my word for it. Buy the book, and find out for yourself.
This one is definitely a page turner that I could not put down. As the plot thickens the fun begins. Totally lovable characters and awesome writing have made this book fantastic in my eyes. Now add a hint of a guy crush and things are heating up. I love books that bring in the love and fun of family and a rag tag group of friends that will go the extra mile to be by one’s side. I love the quest that is played out across the series and can’t wait to read more. Thank you authors, you get a high five from me, keep up the awesome stories, I’ll keep reading and singing your praises. Happy reading All.
I liked this one better than Book 1. Less childish reaction and more getting the job done. Ash is getting more in tune with her magic and the team she is working with. It wasn't hard to figure out what was happening with the missing people, or even who might be involved. Even where her sister might fit in. Nice to have Bastien back in the mix. It will be interesting to see how this new connection with Dragon might pan out though.
Ash is trying her hardest to find her mentor and the Magi council that disappeared. She has some ideas on where they went, but has to try a few experiments first. Her roommate, Stephan, also needs her help as some of his friends have also vanished. I am really enjoying this series, I love the characters and the storyline is great. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, but am sad it will be over.
Great second book!! Also crushed this book in like 2 days. Some really good character development and the “twists” were predictable with the sister but really enjoyed it. I would love to see a chapter from bastian because I love guy povs & I wanna know what’s going on in his head. This is very much a ya fantasy no spice but some tension, no moves have been made yet. Also I feel like there’s a ton going on but it doesn’t feel chaotic like some books.
Like Urban Fantasy? Know anything about Boston (if yes, you'll appreciate the place name dropping, and if not then read the 1st and 2nd books if the series...following the mentions of the real places on your 1st visit would be more interesting than the Freedom Trail).
Congratulations to Ava Bishop and Auburn Tempest for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and e,xciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
I read a lot of books. Like looking for a prince, you have to kiss way too many frogs. This was a bonafide Prince Charming of a book. I love this series. It is interesting and keeps you invested. I recommend this book to anyone who likes magic and adventure. Chef's 💋.
I like this book. I love the world and how this story is being told. Even though I'm huge on romance..I'm just waiting. I was pleasantly surprised. What a deliciously delightful story. Yes, I will be reading the next one. Overall 9/10 (only because I would like more romance). Would definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this book, probably more than the first book. Ash is much more than she appeared to be in the first book and perhaps this outlook she has is what the Magi need. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Such a great story! Please keep them coming! This was very entertaining and truly “smart!” The main character combines what she knows of magic and physics, making something splendid!
Occult Misdemeanors, book two of the Boston Magi Chronicles series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Another wonderful installment for this series. Love, Aisling (Ash), a science geek, as a main character; it makes for interesting plot twists and magical ingenuity.
I am really enjoying this story. The characters are wonderfully thought out and the premise is something different, which makes it pretty exciting to explore this new twist on magic. I cannot wait to see how Ash solves this.
The second book in this series rocked! I love the characters. Percy is still my favorite with the quips and need for sugar, but Bastian is definitely interesting. Many thanks to you for content this adventure. Can't wait to read what comes next
I really liked this. It took the first book quite a while to find its rhythm but this one clicked from the beginning. So far its 2 for 2 for me and they are currently kindle unlimited which is nice.
…my attention & then some. The delicate balance between story arc and daily interactions always throws some of the best authors off. These folks do a bang up job of giving enough normal life to involve the reader while knocking it out of the park oftentimes with action.
Totally loving this series. I adore the characters and the magic is awesome. This book had a good mystery to solve. And the romance is just the sweetest thing, swoon!
