The little girl trembles as a pair of dark eyes watch her every move. She’s been told to dig a hole big enough for a body and her heart races as she wonders who it’s for. She wants to run, but she knows she’ll be caught. So she fights back tears and begins to dig…
When police stop a car in the small town of Hilldale, they shudder as they pop the trunk and look inside. Covered in thick plastic, the body of a man lies totally still. In the car sit two women and a twelve-year-old girl, all refusing to speak.
As Detective Eve Bennet is called in to investigate, she’s struck by the women’s calm demeanor. No stranger to the secretive local community, Eve knows the women won’t speak to her, but she’s sure she can get the young girl to tell her what happened.
When twelve-year-old Beth finally opens up and begs for help, Eve’s blood runs cold. If the man in the trunk is an eminent member of the local church, as Beth says he is, they could all be in serious danger.
But Eve will stop at nothing to make sure Beth is safe, and when her search leads to a family home on a quiet little street, the last thing she expects is to come face to face with someone from her own dark past.
Will she face her demons and unravel the truth behind the man in the trunk? And can she save herself and Beth from the evil that haunts their lives?

When the local police in Hilldale requested Detective Eve Bennet and her task force attend an incident, she shuddered at returning to the town. She also had no idea what was ahead of her and the team. The long drive culminated in the horror of a dead man in the boot of a car; a man who'd been buried and dug up again to be moved. Eve thought he was familiar but she couldn't put her finger on who it was - although she knew she'd work it out. The two women and a twelve year old child in the vehicle refused to speak, which Eve knew was common for the local polygamy community in Hilldale. Eve had escaped their clutches when she was twelve, rescued by her mother Maggie...
As the task force set out to find the identity of the killer, they also attended to the women, who were sent to a jail, still refusing to speak. The girl, Beth, spoke to Eve when she was separated from the women, but she was terrified. Eve vowed to do all she could to keep her safe. The marriage she was meant to have the following day at least wouldn't happen. When Eve was confronted by a horror figure from her past, she battled her emotions, refusing to let his presence upset her. With the four members of her task force surrounding her, having her back, Eve was furious and determined. But could she find the solutions to all the questions she had? They all knew that danger surrounded them; they were being watched continually. Would they escape with their lives?
Pray for Her is the 3rd in the Detective Eve Bennet series by Holly S. Roberts and is an outstanding crime thriller! It gripped me from the first page to the last! Eve is an intriguing character, full of inner strength and is a formidable opponent. Clyde, Bina, Collin and Ray made up the task force alongside Eve, and are also well-placed in the team. I'm so glad I started this series - each book gets better and I can't wait for #4. Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Well the gangs all back for this latest installment. Det Sgt Eve Bennet and her team, Clyde, Bina, Collin and Ray are back in Hildale when a dead body was found in the trunk of a car with three female passengers, who are members of the local cult in Hildale. Eve and her team were assigned by a federal judge to oversee Hildale law enforcement for allowing the “wackos”(what I call the men who run the cult in Hildale) to run rampant with no accountability or repercussions for the crimes they commit and the damage they do. The “wackos” are a cult of abusive, misogynistic, psychotic, depraved, pedophiles trying to pass themselves off as a fundamentalist, polygamist, religious group and the sister wives are just as deranged.
Needless to say, the king wacko, at least in Hildale, William, is furious that Eve and her team have authority over him and his wacko disciples and his cult. William is Eve’s former stepfather, who abused her and her mother when they were members of the cult, more than 20yrs ago, and apparently, William has plans to put an end to Eve and her team. This is not a spoiler since it is how the story started. However, it’s not long after that the story takes a dangerous turn and an assassin targeting Eve misses and gets Ray that leaves him in a coma fighting for his life.
The book summary introduces the primary storyline of investigating who the dead body is in the women’s car. The shooting of Ray becomes the secondary storyline; however, everyone is convinced that the two are linked and that the wackos are actually trying to kill Eve and the team. Most of the story focuses on the investigation of the dead body, who ends up being the bishop of the wackos. Deep in the second half, the two storylines collide and end in a rather shocking and satisfying end.
The continuing character development of Eve and her team and a couple of the wackos was well done. Eve and her team are a tight knit group who love and care about each other – they’re like family and are close to the members own families. However, the storylines, subject matter and writing are dark and kind of getting darker and more disturbing, to some degree. This is something about this series that I have struggled with from the beginning because I really dislike cult stories. However, it’s Eve and her team and their assignments and goals that have committed me to the series. The whole purpose of the team and all of their assignments is to go after the cult and the wackos, who have been evading accountability and escaping the consequences of their crimes for way too long. Every installment has a satisfying ending of Eve and her team slowly bringing the cult down and going after the wackos at the top in an effort of cutting off the head of the snake. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.2 that I will be rounding down to a 4star review.
This is a great crime thriller that centres around a community where men are in control. Eve is called when a dead man’s body is found in the boot of a car being driven by two women from her old community. There’s also a young girl with them and none of them will speak. In the community where Eve was born women are second class citizens and with men having many wives, she knows it’s likely that the two women in the car have been told to take the body somewhere. It takes a while, but Eve manages to gain the young girl’s trust and she explains how she came to be in the car. With a man from Eve’s past showing up, she is shaken when she comes face to face with him and when attempts are made to kill her, Eve knows she needs to try and end the corruption in the area. This is a gripping crime thriller. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Detective Eve Bennet once again finds herself facing issues of her past while she works on her newest case. Eve is once again investigating a crime that is tied to a fundamentalist community, a community she knows all too well. The women that are part of that community have no voice, and with the situation being as it is, Eve must get someone to talk.
Eve’s case involves that of trying to determine the identity of a dead man and how the body is connected to the fundamentalist community. At first, she faces two women and a young girl. However, due to the way their lives exist in the community they are from, they refuse to answer any questions.
Eve beyond shocked when she is forced to face a man from her past. However, calm and collected, Eve digs deep for the answers that are needed. However, the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she is faced with, even to the point where her life could be at risk.
Pray for Her is a powerful read, and hits the ground running from the very start. Eve is a wonderful detective, and her connection to her team while constantly being reminded of her unsettling past made this story one that was utterly impossible to put down.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Another absolute knock out. This series is so good. It’s twisted, creepy on a level I just can’t explain and unputdownable. Every book gets better and better. I have this soft spot for Eve and her team.
Once I started I could not stop reading. There’s part of me when I read this series that gets me so annoyingly jazzed because of the antiquated way women and children are treated. It’s such an interesting, fast paced and unique crime thriller series. I can’t wait for more.
Each book in the detective Eve Bennett series gets better and better!! I love the character development and how fun the characters are! This one had the best mystery that kept me guessing until the very end!!
I loved the first two books in this series, they’re something a little different because the main character Eve was part of a polygamist cult now she’s the head of a task force trying take them down right in the heart of Utah.
This case starts with two women and a child from the cult being pulled over in a car with a dead body in the trunk.
This series just keeps on getting better and even though Eve keeps taking blow after blow and keeps on getting back up.
This time it’s personal though and a terrifying figure from her past comes up into her life when she least expect it.
If you want to be kept on the edge of your seat right until the very last page then this book is for you.
Detective Eve Bennett and her team are back in another cracking read. As they are called back to Hilldale and the polygamist community. When a car is pulled over with two women, a child and a dead body in the boot.
But when Eve, Ray, Clyde, Colin and Bina arrive on the scene. They find three scared females unwilling to talk and a dead body that has clearly just been dug up. And so they need to get the woman somewhere safe to interview them and the body removed and identified. But that means involving the local sheriff and a member of the community. Who is someone who can't be trusted.
And he's soon asking questions he shouldn't and he's not the only one. As Eve comes face to face with a man from her past someone she hoped to never see again and someone whose about to make her job much more complicated.
Especially when the team are dealt a shocking blow. When one of their own is shot and left for dead.
And now all bets are off.
As the rest of team pull out all the stops to find those responsible. Whilst desperately hoping their friend and colleague survive an almost unsurvivable gunshot wound.
And with so many twists and turns, great detail, devastating moments, shocks and surprises. This was a brilliant addition to the series, and I would happily recommend it to all.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Pray For Her. 😊
Pray for Her by Holly S. Roberts starts off with Detective Eve Bennet being called in to investigate a body found in the trunk of a car. She’s struck by the women’s calm demeanor. No stranger to the secretive local community, Eve knows the women won’t speak to her, but she’s sure she can get the young girl to tell her what happened.
I feel sad whenever I come to the end of a Detective Eve Bennet book. I really love these characters, and I'm learning so much about the fundamentalist community.
Eve is a great character as she is flawed but strong and believable in her actions and dialogue. All the characters are good in this series.
This book (and books 1 and 2 in the series) is very addictive and, as stated, an "absolutely gripping crime thriller."
I have read the previous 2 books in the series. This is a great addition and continues to develop the characters and bring light to the polygamist community.
Start this series from book 1; you won't be disappointed. Holly S. Roberts is masterful in her writing style that engages the reader and brings the scenes and characters to life.
Pray for Her is a gripping story with lots of false clues, tension, and suspense to keep you reading well into the night. I cannot wait for the next book!!
A must-read and a series I would highly recommend.
Pray for Her is the third book in the Detective Eve Bennet series and is by far THE BEST story in this series❣️I do also want to say that the stories in this series are also unique and definitely not something I would’ve normally found myself reading but the author is one I really enjoy, so gave it a whirl, and I’m happy I did.
Eve is the lead detective of an oversight team that investigates cases within a polygamous community and where corruption is rampant. When a dead body is discovered in the trunk of a car with two women and a young girl, Eve is called in to investigate. The investigation takes them on a journey I definitely didn’t expect but also an ending that chilled me to my bones😳
A fantastic, emotionally charged story with wonderful characters and I’m holding thumbs for more stories about Eve and her team😍 I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and thank the publisher and author for the opportunity to review. This review is my own and voluntarily given.

This is my first experience with this author, and I was very impressed. I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in a series when I picked it up. Although it can be read as a stand-alone alone, it would be best if previous books were read beforehand for the context of previous crimes and characters. I definitely want to go back and read the previous books in this series as I really enjoyed Eve's character and want to better understand her and her teams experiences in Hilldale. I really liked the short chapters, which made it a quick read as well as the writing style. I was sucked in from the beginning and have a newfound interest in the FLDS religion. Makes me want to binge watch the Netflix series, Keep Sweet. Overall, this was a captivating thriller that will leave you wanting more. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy.
A Gripping Masterpiece with a Fearless Female Lead
"Pray for Her (Detective Eve Bennet Book 3)" by Holly S. Roberts is a five-star thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. Roberts delivers a knockout punch with a storyline that is not only suspenseful but also deeply emotional, thanks to the brilliant portrayal of Detective Eve Bennet.
Eve Bennet, the fearless female lead, steals the show. Her character is a tour de force—complex, resilient, and haunted by personal demons from her childhood. Roberts skillfully navigates Eve's internal struggles, weaving them seamlessly into the fabric of the plot. As Eve grapples with her past, the reader is taken on an emotional rollercoaster, making her a protagonist you can't help but root for.
What sets this book apart is not just the riveting crime at its core, but the tight-knit and cohesive team that supports Detective Eve Bennet. The dynamics among the team members add layers to the narrative, showcasing their loyalty, camaraderie, and unwavering commitment to justice. It's refreshing to see a well-rounded ensemble that enhances the overall reading experience.
The plot itself is a brilliant tapestry of suspense and mystery. From the chilling opening scene with a terrified little girl forced to dig a grave to the discovery of a body in the trunk of a car, each twist and turn is expertly crafted. Roberts keeps the tension high, revealing just enough to keep readers guessing without giving away the entire puzzle.
As Detective Eve Bennet digs deeper into the case, the stakes rise, and the narrative takes unexpected turns. The author's ability to maintain a perfect balance between plot development and character exploration is commendable. The story unfolds with precision, building to a crescendo that left me breathless.
"Pray for Her" is not just a crime thriller; it's a testament to resilience, strength, and the enduring power of confronting one's past. Holly S. Roberts has crafted a masterpiece that seamlessly blends heart-pounding suspense with poignant character development. This book is a must-read for anyone craving a thrilling, emotionally charged ride. I eagerly await the next chapter in Detective Eve Bennet's journey
Thanks to Ms Roberts, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Pray for Her, the third novel to feature Detective Eve Bennett, head of a task force to root out corruption in the polygamous community of Hilldale, Utah.
When a car is stopped the police find a dead body in the boot. The two women and the child in the car refuse to speak, even to identify themselves. She eventually gets through to the child, Beth, and what she has to say is chilling. The body is identified as a high ranking member of the community and that brings danger to everyone.
I thoroughly enjoyed Pray for Her, which is a fast paced, exciting read with plenty of twists and turns. It is told entirely from Eve’s point of view so the reader can ride the roller coaster of the case with her.
Eve escaped from Hilldale and its polygamous community as a teenager so she is ideally placed to understand it, if not be accepted. In fact by leaving she became an enemy and that danger is front and centre of the novel. It makes for a tense and exciting read.
There appears to be a power struggle in the sect, but it’s difficult for Eve and her team to work out who’s fighting or why as everyone is so secretive. A series of events and a little anonymous help gives them a better understanding, but they still have questions about who’s attacking them. The final showdown vindicates Eve’s instinct about the perpetrator, but even that is fraught with danger.
I find myself in a contradictory position with this novel. I love the plot and the way it is written as it is full of action and keeps the reader turning the pages feverishly to see what is coming next. On the other hand I absolutely loath the polygamous lifestyle with its patriarchy and subjugated women. I cheer when any of the vile men get their comeuppance. I don’t object in principle to polygamy if it’s an informed lifestyle choice, but what is portrayed in this community is poorly educated women forced to submit to their husband’s will from a very young (illegal) age and severely punished if they don’t. Yuk.
Pray for Her is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
TRIGGER WARNING: misogyny and violence against women including sexual assault and child sex trafficking, racism Police pull over a car and discover a body in the boot with a bullet hole in his forehead. The occupants of the car are two wives from the polygamous community and a girl of 12. All of the females refuse to cooperate, leaving detective Eve Bennet with no option but to arrest them all. Finally the girl speaks to beg for help... Pray For Her is the third book in the Eve Bennet series. I have previously read and reviewed the second book in the series, Lost Little Angels. There are some mentions about events and outcomes from the earlier books so I would advise reading them in order. Eve has deep concerns about the polygamous comunity that she escaped from. The zealous behaviour of the men eager to please the prophet and the ensuing enslavement of the women makes for very difficult reading. Included in this book is a vulnerable young girl who is due to be married and raped by a much older man. I feel deeply uncomfortable about the depiction of polygamy in this series but I think this is a sign of how vivid the writing, plot and characters are. This book also shows racism but the writer also makes it clear how unacceptable this is. Once again Eve's personal life is entangled due to her knowledge and relationships within the community. Her stepfather returns and is given a position of authority and she also clashes horns with the new sheriff. Eve's life is in danger and this results in a terrible for the team and someone is hurt in her stead. Regardless, the team are determined to find out the truth about the body in the car and not be scared away. The tense atmosphere is maintained until the end and there is also plenty of drama and action. Pray For Her is vividly written with a gripping plot.
I love that this series is so different than any other detective series I read. Having Eve been a part of the Mormon like community as a child and escaped and now investigating on their property gives it a new feel and set of cases than other similar series. Of course this one adds more personal to the case, but I’ll let you discover why as you read.
Since the community is so “white male power” the cases involve women and children that the community tries to control. And the team in this one is great and add just one more dimension as it includes men of color. So additionally to the cases, you have Eve struggling with her past, the community struggling with power from outside and the clash of the team with the community. It is so complex before you ever have a case and I love that the author does such a good job of making these layers and complexities seem easy to read.
I love that we see Eve struggle to do her job where she was once a community member and her struggles to be the tenacious detective she is against these controlling men of the community. This struggle makes her such a relatable character by being able to overcome her securities and get justice for the crimes she is investigating.
This one again drew me in from the start and had me rooting for Eve and her team on many levels. This can be a stand alone read. The author does a great job of catching the reader up on all pertinent information, but there is depth and growth of the team and some community members if you read the series.
If you love a good crime procedural and want to try something a little different than the rest, you need to check this one out.
Pray for Her by Holly S. Roberts Detective Eve Bennett #3
Strong addition to a compelling series ~ Couldn’t put it down!
What I liked: * Eve: strong, intelligent, raised in the FLDS religious cult- escaped with the help of her mother, survivor, haunted by her past, supported by and supportive of her team, in a relationship with Clyde, confronts more than one abuser from her past, really like her * Clyde: ex-sniper, seasoned homicide detective, strong, intelligent, quiet, divorced, patient, wise, excellent at his job, there for Eve at work and outside of work, committed to the team and to Eve * Collin, Ray, Bina, and Tamm: the rest of Eve’s team chosen for their skills, personalities, backgrounds, and what they bring as individuals to make the team strong * The team bond that is developing and how strong it proved to be when one team member was injured * Seeing the cult through Eve’s memories and experiences as she applied this information to solving the case * The police procedural aspects of the case and how the team managed to break through to get the answers they needed * That some of those in the cult managed to escape * Being able to “hate” the bad guys * Hoping there will be another book in the series and wondering what it will be about
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about how difficult it would be to live in an FLDS cult and “stay sweet”
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Now THAT Is How You Do A Fucking Prologue! Seriously, I don't normally tweet out or contact the author when I'm reading a book. After *this* prologue, I immediately had to tweet out how awesome it is, particularly given the various discussions in Boolandia regarding how many readers skip prologues or don't enjoy them or whatever. I don't mind books that don't have them, but a well written one can really get a reader curious and/ or excited about the story, and this is one of the best written ones I've ever encountered.
Beyond the prologue, this is a tremendous tale, one that has been set in motion since the very beginning of this series - everything is now coming to a head, and Bennett and her team are about to be challenged like they've never been challenged before... and by the one person who terrifies Bennett more than any other.
Filled with pulse pounding action and intrigue, this is one of those mystery/ police procedural tales that really shows the true power of how great these particular types of stories can be - and yet, still, to get the full impact here, you really do need to begin at Book 1 and read through this point. Trust me, when you do you will absolutely devour this particular tale as well.
Overall a remarkably strong tale that could well serve as a series finale - or, equally, could simply serve as a trilogy conclusion and allow the series to continue on. I for one am very curious to see which direction Roberts (and possibly her publisher) will go there. Very much recommended.
This is Detective Eve Bennet Book 3 in the series and it’s another fantastic read. I absolutely love this series, definitely one of my favourite right now. Whilst this reads well as a stand-alone I recommend reading the series in order to understand the background to the characters, but also because it’s that freaking good. Eve is just a wonderful character. She was rescued from a sect by her mother as a child but not before being indoctrinated, physically and mentally abused and almost broken. But this was ‘normal’, this was how women were, and still are, treated. But now she is strong, fighting back against this evil society as a law enforcement officer. This author write trauma so well, there is a lot of distressing description which might upset some readers.
Briefly, in the sect town of Hilldale the police stop a car and find a dead body in the boot. The two adult women and 12-year-old child in the car refuse to speak. Eva and her team are given the case and Eve gets some information from the child, Beth. But tragedy strikes when a bullet is aimed at Eve and hits one of her colleagues and Eve is shocked when a face from her past reappears.
I thought this was great. Fast paced with so much going on, some good twists and turns and great characters. Seeing how Eve struggles with the memories of her past was heartbreaking as is the treatment of the women in this sect. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in a day. Great police procedural.
Book 1 and 2 made a big impression on me. I know next to nothing about the polygamist community and I am shocked to read about how they live their lives or rather how men dictate how women and children have to behave and they don't hesitate to come up with the cruelest of punishments if they dare to disobey.
Those stories really stick and I am glad to see there are women brave enough to leave that kind of life and start afresh. It must be hard on them, because they are suddenly part of a world they don't know and they have to adapt which is not the easiest thing to do. It's good to see there are shelter they can depend upon for help.
Eve is one tough cookie and she leads a team who are as dedicated as she is. But each time they are called for a crime that was committed in the polygamist community, they put their lives in danger. Eve, being an apostate, is always a thorn in the eye of the leaders, because they are aware she can make people talk who normally would not dare to.
This time is no exception and even though this current situation frightens her more than any before, she keeps on going.
This author's books always make me realise how good life is when you are your own boss. Very gripping and filled with emotions, the author wrote another winner. 5 stars
Another enthralling case for Detective Eve Bennet and her team Set in Hilldale, where the local fundamentalist church rule supreme. A town where the patriarchy sets all the rules And females are treated as possessions, objects and fools.
The police stop a suspicious car, then what can the smell? There's a body in the trunk but none of the women a single word will tell. The women remain calm and silent, too, A case for Detective Eve Bennet and her team to look into.
Eve escaped the church and has insider knowledge, too, Helping her know what might happen and what to do. The young girl in the car is keeping silent as well But Eve hopes she'll open up, the truth to tell.
The insights into the beliefs and practices of the community Show a different outlook on life, relationships and duty. A disturbing situation involving child brides, Abusive relationships, false prophets and lots more besides.
An enthralling read that kept me turning the pages right to the end The team show great camaraderie, they're each others' friend, But as Eve and her team seek to keep everyone as safe as can be There are disturbing memories from her past and family history.
There are also dangers for the team to face As they endeavour to discover just what has taken place. For my complementary copy, I say thank you, As I share with you this, my honest review.
When Eve and her team encounter a dead body with suspects unwilling to talk, Eve is thrust back into a community she'd left behind that still has enough secrets and power to cause her pain. Will they find the killer or will the killer (s) manage to eliminate them before they find the answers?
This was my first Eve Bennett book and I really liked how independent Eve was and how realistically she was written as dealing with long term trauma. I found some of the background information on how the sect operated interesting as it exposed some customs that were somewhat shocking. I would have liked to learn more about her team members, but they may have been fleshed out more in other books.
I do feel as if I would have benefitted from reading the other books in the series first. There were way too many mentions of the previous cases and people that took you out of the story, and it was somewhat unrealistic to think that if the powers that be really wanted to make things more difficult for her they couldn't.
The ending was somewhat predictable, but overall it was a good introduction to a very different type of crime novel. I would like to read more about Eve and her team. ** I was given an advance copy by NetGalley in return for my unbiased review.
I have to say that this story grabbed me from the first page and I didn’t, couldn’t really, stop reading until the final page. The mystery, suspense and danger were palpable as Detective Sergeant Eve Bennet and her team investigate a dead body in a car trunk. The car was being driven by two women from the secretive local community with a young girl, Beth, in the back seat. The women refuse to talk, but maybe she has a chance with Beth. Eve was once a member of the community until her mother rescued her before she could be given in marriage. She and her team now have legal jurisdiction over all other law enforcement in the area and she will not rest until she finds out who killed the man and why. She will go over or through the local sheriff, the county attorney and her former step-brother in order to solve the murder. Not even being shot at or threatened will deter her, but when one of her own is badly injured her desire for justice reaches a new level. An outstanding police procedural! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Pray for Her (Detective Eve Bennet Book 3) by Holly S. Roberts Publisher: Bookouture Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thrillers Published: December 12, 2023
Pray for Her is the third book in the Detective Eve Bennet series by Holly S. Roberts. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone mystery or as part of the series. I absolutely loved this book!
Detective Eve Bennet has such interesting life experiences that makes her uniquely qualified to investigate crime that occurs in a small town in Utah, that is home to a polygamous sect and lots of secrets.
This book hit me in such an emotional way. I have become so invested with these characters that I could not look away from the pages.
There was so much going on with this book and I was utterly afraid for Eve and her team. The story was incredible and watching the mystery unfold was WOW!
This is a must read book for 2023! I am absolutely hooked on this series! I can’t wait for the next book to be release (please be soon)!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
WoW............Pray for Her by Holly S. Roberts is the third book in the brilliant Detective Eve Bennet series and what an excellent series this has been. From the very first book called Only Girl Alive I have been hooked and looked forward till the next book to come out which was Lost Little Angels. So when Holly's latest book came out I had to find some time for me and open my kindle and start to read Pray for her, WoW this book was excellent and I was gripped just like the other two books. It was another outstanding thriller and I loved all the characters especially Detective Eve Bennet she is a very strong character and I just adore her.
I can't recommend these books enough they have been a excellent read and great for your holidays or time for yourself.
5 star book.
Big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
In Holly S. Roberts' crime novel Pray for Her, Detective Eve Bennet navigates a chilling small-town mystery involving a polygamous community, unveiling a tapestry of suspense and emotion. The narrative, centered around the discovery of a body in a car trunk, propels Eve into a relentless pursuit of justice, all while grappling with her own haunted past. Roberts' strength lies in creating authentic characters, with Eve as a complex and resilient lead, surrounded by a supportive ensemble cast. The plot weaves a gripping tale, expertly balancing suspenseful twists with emotional depth. However, the portrayal of the oppressive polygamous lifestyle introduces a moral dilemma, adding complexity to the story. Overall, Pray for Her is a captivating addition to the Detective Eve Bennet series, offering a thought-provoking exploration of crime, redemption, and societal norms.
Although this book is a work of fiction, I believe the unfolding story reflects true-to-life events. It is good to have awareness of some of the evils of mens' hearts. This one reveals polygamy and a whole lot of other 'bad' associated therewith, perpetuated from nefarious religious beliefs' perspectives. The author doesn't mince words. It is great that this also reflects good, as in Detective Eve Bennet and her team. This is Book 3 in the series. I feel that it is ok as a stand alone book but it would have been great to have read the previous two for context.

In the small town of Hilldale a grisly discovery is made. A police patrol has stopped a car. Inside are two women and a young girl. In the boot wrapped in tarpaulin is a man's body- he is very dead! The women refuse to speak so Detective Eve Bennet & her team are called. Hilldale is renowned for being run by the polygamy community. Women are second class citizens, their only purpose is to keep home & breed. Eve is very familiar with them as she escaped from them when her mother managed to escape. Eve doesn't expect to get anything from the women but she is determined to try & get the young girl, Beth, away from this poisonous place.
This third book in the series was every bit as good as the first two. The claustrophobic menacing atmosphere of Hilldale is hard to forget. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this great book.
This is book number 3 in the Detective Eve Bennett series. I have enjoyed this series so far and look forward to the next book😊
Detective Eve Bennet is called to assist when a vehicle is pulled over and a body is discovered in the trunk. The women in the car are not talking, but more disturbing is the fact that a young girl is also in the vehicle. Are they responsible for the man’s death?
Eve is familiar with the community and doesn’t expect to get answers easily. When the victim finally agrees to speak with her, Eve is struck by the potential identity of the victim and what this could mean for the local church and its members.
Determined to find the truth, Eve will be forced to face her past. Will she get to the truth and solve the case?
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Pray for Her (Detective Eve Bennet Book 3) begins with a traffic stop. Police noticed a vehicle swerving possible a drunk driver. What they found was completely unexpected Holly S. Roberts has created not only a suspensive drama but has created a character in Detective Eve Bennet that opens up a culture that is often not discussed. Her knowledge of the FDLS and basing the story in the real community of Hildale brings a different light to the novel. She tells her story why educating on why the woman of the FDLS may act in certain situations. The book is part of a series but was easy to follow without knowing what occurred in the previous books . It defiantly makes the reader want to go back and start with book 1. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchanged for my honest review.
