She made the deal. Now, it’s time to pay the price. Never knew that bartering with the Bone Reader for help would cost her, but she never imagined this. He’s enlisted her help in hunting down a killer hidden within a group of evil supernatural beings. She soon realizes everyone might not be as villainous as they first appear. Part of this bargain includes Never accepting a power she never wanted, and shutting out the friends she’s just learned to let in. She’s forced to team up with not only the Bone Reader, but a couple of shady Founder vampires. At least she’s snuck along her dragon mate and a couple of not-so human sidekicks. Her temporary home is full of questionable characters, and they all make excellent suspects. As her investigation leads her closer and closer to the killer, she’s forced to confront several unpleasant possibilities. If she can’t do this alone, can she at least keep those she loves safe? The Bone Reader’s deal was expensive enough, but will catching a murderer cost her life? “Never More” is the fourth installment in the paranormal Shifter Vengeance series, which is packed with mystery, suspense, and found family who each have their own unique secrets.
I have enjoyed this series so much and this book??
Literally topped all my expectations of this author. I feel like you don’t see the twists coming and that ENDING?! Ready for the next one … like hours ago😭🤪🙌🏻
3.5 stars. This fourth installment was a bit slower-paced than the previous installments. Never takes a trip with the Bone Reader to infiltrate a group of high-ranking supernaturals to determine who is murdering individuals within the group. Nahum joins her, but her other friends remain back at the Vampire mansion.
This is where I think the novel suffers. Never is a bit out of her league on this one—especially without her friends—and their absence through much of the story makes for a slightly boring narrative. The plot was also unexpectedly a bit flat for me. However, we DO get to learn more about the mysterious Bone Reader, which I enjoyed very much. AND we see Never’s significant personal growth, making this overall an important installment.
The ending was a crazy cliffhanger, and I’m looking forward to the next one!
The Bone Reader, oh my, the Bone Reader! He's got all my senses heightened, I'm not sure what his agenda is, I'm not sure what he is, I'm not sure who he is, but I know (call it female intuition) although his tactics are a bit bizarre, he's got a soft spot for Never. Heck, who doesn't! I love her sass, I love her determination, I love her shenanigans, I just love her! So, Mr Bone Reader gives Never a gift, it's a deal or bargain Never made in exchange for his help. That should be an "oh how sweet" moment BUT this IS the Bone Reader! And good grief is this " present" tied up in knots! In a reversal of roles, the Bone Reader wants Never's help but to do so, she needs to.... change. Oh and put herself in danger but heck, this is Never, she has a talent for putting herself in danger. And then, OMG, then...the theory that was rattling round in my head was right! I did me a mental fist pump, I was that chuffed! Nah, you have to experience it for yourself but shoot, even though I suspected the maybe, possibly, my heart still gave an erratic beat.
The Founders, of which there are 10, are systematically being killed and their power stolen, powerful powers too! And Never is right in the heart of this mystery murder, trying to decipher the how and most importantly, the why. But gosh, not only has she the murder to uncover, she has the daunting task of unravelling her feelings, her innermost thoughts, now these, yeah, they're deadlier than the strange beings she's encountered, ACKNOWLEDGING that she feels love, that's the scariest thing ever! It's amazing the skill this author has, it's amazing how each character has captured a part of me, the coolness of Lynx and Todd, the inner beauty of Nadia, the effervescence of Crys, the unending loyalty of Aggie, the respectful and responsible Hugh but Nahum takes the prize, ok, together with Never, HE is just magnificent! In every way, as a dragon person, as a lover, as a friend, as a protector, as everything he is!
Oh glory is Never incredible! Besides her sass, she's not intimidated by anyone or anything, she ploughs ahead not caring what people think or feel. Her words "I'm not a genuinely nice person, I just want to make evil people suffer" rings but but I beg to differ. She cares, not only for her found family but for those that are getting the short end of the stick, she IS nice, she IS kind, we just won't tell her.... Now finding a killer in this mess is, well, a right mess! Each time Never thanks she knows who it might be, someone else dies. Gosh does Ms Reames take me on a merry convoluted ride! Make that a deadly convoluted ride...where my heart's a pounding, my throat feels tight and then, seemingly out of nowhere,(but exceptionally well set up!)I get walloped with bombshell after bombshell! You know the saying "hidden in plain sight"? Yeah, this author does that magnificently, I would never ever (nope...no pun intended!) have guessed WHO nevermind the outcome! The epilogue threw me for a loop but guess what? Ms Reames gave us a ps epilogues, yep, TWO epilogues and hells bells, THAT one floored me! The ingenuity, the prowess, the... shoot... the EVERYTHING this author does just blows my mind! Book 5 here I come!
With Damien gone, a new chapter opens up for Never. Now it is Halloween and she must fulfil her bargain with the Bone Reader. She meets him, and a friend, to be given a gift she cannot refuse. When she finds out it's the power of another supernatural, Never is fit to be tied but has no choice. Now she is drawn into an investigation to find out who murdered the supernatural she now has the ability of in a castle in the middle of nowhere. And this "Founder" who has been murdered is not the only one, with bodies piling up quicker and quicker. Can Never solve this alone or will she need to sneak her family in to help her solve this mystery before it's too late? I love Never! She is absolutely hilarious, and I love her sarcasm. Even in the face of death, she will laugh in the face of whatever is threatening her - even if it is her worst nightmare come to life. Never also won't take crap from anyone. She definitely grows a lot on this book, learning that she does in fact need her friends to help her and also realizing that she just needs to tell Nahum how she feels, even if she can't do it just yet. She deals with her frustration over not being able to figure out who is behind these killings before they lose too many CoEd (Council of Evil Dignitaries) members. We also get to know so much more about the Bone Reader! We learn what he is finally, even if I have no idea what it is. Never gets a lot of his back story and realizes in his own way he does care about her, as much as he can care. His meddling and maneuvering knows no bounds though. This book was a fun mystery, a supernatural game of Clue. No one was safe in the castle and there were plenty of interesting ways to take out an ancient Founder. As Never is running around tracking down clues I am trying to figure it out but always coming up empty until right before the reveal. And even then, there were surprises that I figured out moments before another big reveal and another I didn't see coming. The end of this book really was a labyrinth of surprises for poor Never. I couldn't wait to see what the Bone Reader had in store for Never and I was definitely not disappointed! Now I have to know what in the heck she will do with this predicament.
Silas Reames you are such a ... yeah I probably can't say because someone will take offence, even though it's really meant as a compliment. Never owed the Bone Reader and it's time to pay, that's fine. The circumstances aren't ideal and to a Were like Never being stuck in what is essentially a drawing room murder mystery, would be claustrophobic. Now picture the drawing room is more of a castle in a compound and all the inhabitants have powers and perhaps a questionable grasp on aspects of their psycopathies and you'll get a feel for this chapter of Never's journey. Never brings her snark, her charm and all her kick arse passion to the investigation the Bone Reader has dragged her into, and yet somehow she has come so far in her character growth that even she realises her best asset is her friends. There are twists and turns as well as a killer ending (hence the 'Silas you're a *%^'). I loved Never's development which is prevented from being soppy because of her attitude and the fact her friends accept that about her, and help her to be a better version of herself. I also loved learning so much more about Bone Reader. When you're ready with the next instalment Silas, I'll be waiting to read it. Just so I remain transparent in my reviews I read an ARC of this.
I have never quite read anything like this one, but Reames took the concept of an Agatha Christie style house party lock-in murder mystery (oh no, we’re all trapped here with the murderer and no one will be guaranteed to get out alive until they’re caught) and mixed in a fantastic group of supernatural beings with wild powers and made this the coolest urban fantasy murder mystery escape room novel I’ve ever read.
The murders were intriguing, the suspects widely varied, the amount of power available and thus threatening everyone else at any given time kept the tension high and, AND we got to see a LOT more of my favorite character in the series… the mysterious and quite obviously deadly, Bone Reader. Not only did he appear throughout this novel, but Never, and therefore the reader, got to delve into some of his secrets!! I LOOOOVVVEEE their half-acknowledged friendship so much.
Like many other mysteries I read, I got an inkling of who done it and even why a hair before the reveal, but WOW, did the author manage to surprise me anyway with that ending. That next book is gonna be WILD and I am SO stoked to read it.
When Never was working on defeating the Magiska, she made a deal with the Bone Whisperer. In return for his help, she agreed to give him a ride to wherever he wanted. It turns out he needs her to find out who is killing the Founders, an immensely powerful group of supernaturals. She is going in sort of undercover, being given an unusual power, and without her support crew of witches, shifters and dragon. There is no shortage of suspects and more murders happening. This is quite a mystery, and as she is working with a couple of the founders that she’s not sure if she can trust, she is also trying to figure out the reason why the murders are happening. There is more information about the Bone Whisperer as well as a bit more about Never’s background. Again, there are the humourous spots where Never is talking to the readers but there is action, violent at times, great characters and character interactions. This book has a great story, and you can see how Never has grown since the first book when she was alone. She worries about her friends, that have become her family. This book basically ends on a cliff hanger, so I’m starting the next one in a hurry.
Another great read by one of my favorite authors, Silas Reames! I absolutely love the Never series and just can’t get enough. In this one which gives Clue vibes , Never has to fulfill her end of the deal she made with the Bone Reader. He needs her help to hunt down a killer of evil supernatural beings. She has to team up with the Bone Reader and other founder supernaturals at the group’s mansion where they are all gathered for safety. Except is not as safe as they think with the killer in their mitts.
I love the author’s writing style. It makes the book engaging and easy to read. The characters are well developed and I love that we get Never and her crew in each one. We get to learn more about the mysterious Bone Reader in this one, which was nice. The ending was something I didn’t see coming and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one! I highly recommend the series and you won’t be disappointed!
It makes such an amazing change to want to jump into the next book instead of wanting to throw my kindle after such a cruel cruel cliffhanger!
So after the events with the Magikai Council and the treachery of its former leader Amun, Never is a free agent again. Ok maybe not, there’s just that tiny issue of her most recent deal with BR. Everyone got a magical boost to take down Amun and in return Never has to give BR a lift somewhere and temporarily accept a gift she doesn’t want. Like he said it’s a great story and it all begins with a murder.
Honestly, it was an absolutely riveting read! I had real problems putting it down so that I could go to sleep. The books are all interconnected so you do need to read them in order. A brilliant series.
Book four and Never has to repay the bone readers debt! Never just has to go to a mansion filled with evil supernatural beings and hunt down the killer amongst them. Easy right?? It’s exciting and full of murder, mystery and suspense as Never discovers all is not as it seems. The author does a fantastic job of drawing you in with twists and turns and surprises to keep you guessing plus we got to learn some secrets about the bone reader. I do love this series and Never is such an awesome character and I look forward to her next adventure.
I never expected that ending, and I was shocked it happened that way. I like Never, her loyalty, honesty, and straight-up "take no prisoners approach" to life. The next book will hold some answers, I hope, as I am left with more questions because of what happened. The murderer was a surprise and I hope the next book will be here soon as I need to know what happens next.
Super boring…by this book I would think that we could have learned more about Never’s family that is hinted at in previous books but never expanded on..by now I am bored with the story her mate has very little page time and he showed up in first book..would think a mate spends time with you…this like one of those long distance relationships where you see the other person once or twice a year at holidays.
This was SO FUN!! A switch up from our other stories with Never, BR takes us on a fun mansion murder mystery!! It’s like a game of Clue but for magical beings!! I am obsessed and this MIGHT be my favorite book in the series so far!!
Love the characters but not so keen on the story this time. I don’t really like any book set within a fixed place but the ending at least was excellent
