Stephen Leather was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London's Burning, The Knock and the BBC's Murder in Mind series. For much of 2011 his self-published eBooks - including The Bestseller, The Basement, Once Bitten and Dreamer's Cat - dominated the UK eBook bestseller lists and sold more than half a million copies. The Basement topped the Kindle charts in the UK and the US, and in total he has sold more than two million eBooks. His bestselling book The Chinaman was filmed as The Foreigner, starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan and grossing more than $100 million.
I love Stephen leather books. And have read most of them over the years. These were a re read for me, as I read them when they were first published a few years ago. I enjoyed them even more the second time. Exciting, interesting stories, that I didn't want to end. I have the 4th and 5th in the series ready and waiting on my kindle. Still found jenny annoying though!
This series is brilliantly told. Grips like a vice it doesn't let go. The author has created a great character in Jack Nightingale. This is crying out to be on television. Let's hope it's picked up . It would be a massive hit. Stephen Leather is a genius.
This story started slowly but improved through the last two books. The plot was imaginative and the characters were well developed. Well worth reading!!
Stephen Leather is an excellent writer. He really knows how to keep his reader interested. If you decide to start this trilogy with book 1, be aware that you really need to read book 3! Book 3, Nightmare, will wrap up the action that starts in book 1. You can't fully appreciate book 1 without reading book 3.
Warning: this book deals with Wiccans, Satan worshippers, and the occult. If these things make you squeamish, and if you aren't willing to read about a lot of grisly deaths, this isn't the series for you. I myself hate these things, which is why I have to tip my hat at Stephen Leather, because he hooked me in and I wanted to know how it would all turn out badly enough to keep reading.
I love Stephen Leather and after reading all of his available books I was only left with the Jack Nightingale series. The concept didn't appeal to me that much, but with nothing else to read I decided to go for it. I still love Stephen Leather and his style of writing, but how many people can you kill off? I found that really frustrating and that is what stopped me from loving these books.
