Sein Kuss verwandelte sie in eine ... Katze?
Happy End garantiert!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Hi, it's me. The one who starts reading something Christmas-y after Christmas is over. Well... It wasn't that festive - I didn't get a whole lot of Christmas vibes anyway. It was good but I gotta admit I was a little confused. You see, I thought he was a cat shifter. Spoiler alert: he is not, that's her. It gets even more confusing when the German title mentions purr-fect and Dragon mate. Adside from that, I liked this but it's this whole "he has an icecube for a personality and she's the one to melt it" theme I don't really like. What I did like was the new spin on shifters: You don't know your animal until you meet your mate. That was kinda coola and I kinda wish there were more stories with her family cause I loved them.
Her Purr-fect Christmas Mate is a shorter holiday - themed, paranormal / shifter novel. It features a dragon shifter and cat shifter. I haven't read any novels featuring a cat shifter, so I was definitely curious.
We meet FMC Peony and MMC Mordecai. Mordecai is your typical grumpy, "alpha" type male shifter. He obviously falls for Peony pretty hard.
I didn't LOVE this book. I didn't really love the characters or overly enjoy them. I wanted to, but the book really just fell kinda flat for me unfortunately.
This is an OK shifter romance, but Mordecai was hard to like at first. It gets 3 stars from me.
Peony was likable, but I really didn't get why she was so attracted to Mordecai at first -- especially since she didn't realize he was her mate, and he was planning to destroy the building she worked/lived in.
Mordecai was hard to like at first. He just seemed so cold and calculating. It was explained later why he was that way (his grandmother had really done a number on him for years). He got a lot better after he fell for Peony, and realized just how much damage his grandmother had done to him.
I did think it was really cute how Mordecai's dragon absolutely loved Peony's cat. They seemed like such an unlikely pairing, so that part was a lot of fun.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I adore the books I read by Zoe Chant. They are wonderful silly and romantic romps through the most outrageous of circumstances, involving people who are so well described, I always feel like I knew them in high school and they were part of my friend group.
This one is no different. A delightful and quick read, well worth re-reading a half a dozen times, and full of the silly but entirely believable behavior human-type people tend to have. The main characters are charming, attractive in their own way, and full of faults and foibles. If it weren’t for the magic involved, I would think they were neighbors of mine!
Charming, conflicted, and a basket of warm fuzzies, this short book was just what I needed between craft projects, financial maneuvering, and holiday preparation and somehow managed to walk that fine line between genuinely funny situations and saccharine sweet silliness. It stayed appropriately in the silly but truly “realistic for values of realism “, instead of venturing off into the wilds of Magical Romance where Mary Sue reigns. No Mary Sue characters here!! The MCs are both intelligent and flawed, motivated and confused, and very, very human.
Thank you for sharing this lovely story. As an interesting aside to the many accomplishments of motivated bookstore employees, I can attest that there are people who go above and beyond the call to help others in service to literary goods. Happy Holidays, no matter the time of year.
I just had to write a review - 6 stars! I read so many books I don’t always have time to write a review but I knew I had to for this book. I’ve never read an enemies to lovers in shifter romance. Honestly I never thought of it with the whole fated mate thing but what a great plot. Mordecai shows up at the bookstore where Peony works on Christmas Eve, but he not full of good cheer, he’s there to destroy that which she holds most dear. Mordecai is a villain and a monster and that’s how he sees himself. I love the shifter worlds Zoe Chant creates and this one throws out all the “rules” I thought I knew about shifters. In Peony’s family, no one shifts until they kiss their mate AND they have no idea what their shifter form is until then PLUS they can be any kind of shifter!! Unicorn, griffin, raven, deer - you name it. Mordecai has only his grandmother and she’s an embittered, taciturn dragon. Peony’s shifter form is oh so small, especially compared to his dragon, but mighty and mischievous. Both the woman and her animal help him realize he is neither villain nor monster - an impressive feat when he took both her livelihood and home in their first meeting. Whether you’re Scrooge or want the magic of the season to last just a little longer, read this book.
This was a freebie holiday shifter romance (apparently, I'm feeling drawn to them this year, and the Zoes seem to be releasing bunch of them, so expect a deluge of reviews for them over the next month) that probably would have been a four-star if it hadn't been for the theme of 'having to find a mate before Peony's (the female lead in this story) 'real life' can start.
Perhaps it's because I'm devouring so many shifter romances right now, I'm getting super picky about the themes I don't like, and Peony's constant assertions that everything in her life before she met her mate 'doesn't matter' because 'it was just the prologue to her real life' got really, really old really, really quickly.
Aside from that, though, this was an enjoyable, light-hearted read. I'm not sure which Zoe released it, but I'd be interested in reading more of their stuff.
It was ok the review does contain spoilers. I liked both characters my gripes with the book were I didn't like that the hero let the a-holes speak bad of his mate, i mean he just sit there and took it before he ran. He should at the very least defended her. He goes on about allowing his dragon to come out in the board room making people fear him but thats all it was talk. I also have a thing with people always feeling they need to redeem the villains of the story and thats fine if done well, but i feel the way it was done in this story was just tying up loose ends as to not have the heros grandmother be the villain any more. I would have probably done it that the heroine went and spoke to her and reminded her of all the good times, explaining she wanted to return the building to its former glory, Bring the love back that was put into it originally. Maybe even inviting her mates grandmother to be apart of the restoration. But no it was just a let down how they redeemed her. I hope the author sees these reviews and takes notes.
Peony and Mordecai were two of the more unusual characters I've read about. The story was delightful in keeping with other Zoe Chant books. There were a couple times that puzzled me. When Peony shifted for the first time no mention was made of her clothing. If she would be naked when she shifted back why didn't Mordecai take her clothing along? I understand that it was more provocative for her to be naked, but she still would have been when she shifted. It also provided some humour later. When did she become aware that he was a dragon? I must have missed it.
The changes they made to each other were written well. It was wonderful to see Mordecai become a better person and Peony to become more confident. Her family was remarkable and a bit crazy, but they also made me laugh.
Based on the cover you'd think that Peony was a Snowshoe or Rag doll breed cat, but she's ginger with white paws.
One thing this could do without is the f-words. There weren't a lot, but they don't improve the tale.
Peony is having a great night at the work Christmas party that she had planned, until Mordecai stepped up to announce that the place was sold and would be demolished. Not only does she lose her job, but her home is in the same building. Later on she kisses him and finds out he is her mate! What is wrong with this picture? See how they can get beyond all of this to finding the true meaning of Christmas: love, joy and kindness. It is quite the adventure, without a smidge of violence!
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and engaging. It is not easy to break away from some ways of thinking. It takes a determined effort some times to do that. See how it can be done in this story. Enjoy!
Started off a bit weird but then settled down nicely. Mordecai was a bit difficult to like at first though I loved his dragon. The reason for his hot, cold, standoffish behaviour becomes apparent as we learn more of his past, but especially clear when we meet his grandmother. Peony was quite fun and her shifter side was obviously cute. Though I didn’t picture her like the cat on the cover at all. Wraps up very quickly but I was left still slightly confused as to the grandmothers hatred and vengeance. Just because she was cheated and swindled whilst grieving, is a strange cause to ruin yours and your grandsons lives over and her attitude change at the end didn’t feel genuine. Do we really have to have the obligatory same sex couple thrown in just to appease the p.c. brigade? Wasn’t needed in my opinion as it added nothing to the story. Read through kindle unlimited.

It’s about becoming and recognizing who you are, accepting yourself. Mordecai was sculpted by his grandmothers rage and anger for revenge. His vision of himself was as a villain. Peony sees herself as in a prologue waiting for her life to begin. Waiting for her prince to lead her. When they meet they change each other. The story premise is funny and the beginning of the book makes you laugh as they try to communicate effectively. Peony’s cat is hysterical with its antics and Mordecai’s dragon is wise and sweet.it’s a qwerky Scrooge story and a fast read.
I love author’s way of keeping you on tenterhooks on various topics and after each reveal, the characters grow themselves as well as in their relationship. It’s not instantaneous even over only a few days. This book is wonderful to read and let’s you see the eyes through both characters’ hearts whereas sometimes it feels you only get the heroines POV. If only I could speak and read my husband’s mind and he mine. *sigh* thankfully love conquers and heals inner wounds!
Starts off as his being a Grinch with his Grandmother as the vision of his past, the former owners Christmas present and her family as Christmas future.
Though I loved the last part of the book, their were a few "I wanted more" parts for me. Wanted to see an epilogue in their future 10 years or so. With the complex done, full of shifter tenants, and those that know of them. With glimpse of their offspring. Curious if they would be like her family, or would they be dragons.
A great romance!! Peony is a shifter, but she doesn't know what type of shifter she is! In her family, who don't shifter until you kiss your mate and she hasn't find hers yet! Mordecai is a dragon shifter who us out for revenge! He is planning to destroy the building that Peony works and lives in. He doesn't realize that she is his mate until he makes the announcement about the building and crash her! Will he win her over! What type if shifter is Peony? Will they find love together?
Peony didn’t know what her shifter form would be until she kissed her mate, Mordecai came to the party she was having for the employees and friends to let them know that after Christmas it would be torn down. She was losing her home and her job, when he went to leave his dragon decided to make him do something to not be able to leave. When they kissed she became a cat, the owners didn’t care what his grandmother wanted to do with the building. Peony stood up to his grandmother and her family loved Mordecai. Good book!
This was a really cute short story. I like the idea of not knowing what your shifter animal was until you met your mate. Although it was tough if you did not meet your mate early in life. Peony was shy, overworked and kind of just getting through the days waiting to meet her mate, so she could find her animal. Mordecai was so full of hatred and revenge fueled by his grandmother that he almost missed out. Definitely a good read, and I would recommend this book..
Peony waited her whole life to find her mate. Mordecai never actually gave it a thought. They're definitely an unlikely pair. They feel the same pull towards one another, but that won't make things any easier. Both of their lives are going to change. With a little hard work, it will be for the better. They will both have a magical Christmas. I received an earl copy and this is my voluntary opinion.
I love that the heroine I this book is a domestic cat shifter. And, that she grows into her shifter animal as the story blossoms. There are very subtle digs about lifestyles of the rich, which are cleverly introduced, panda as always, a good woman can crack even a stiffly sealed exterior of someone who needs it. Catty traits abound in this book and while you don’t have to be a cat lover to enjoy it, those of us who are will get a chortle of some of the things she does.
You bring out my purry side This book is a cute little holiday romance that brings out all the craziness of family during the holidays. I love the two different upbringings and the way they manage to mesh as one when push comes to shove. The author incorporated some of the best things about the holidays between the pages of this book, including a Scrooge or five. If you aren’t yet in the holiday spirit, this is the perfect book to get you there.
So freaking cute!!! This book was so good! I don't have the words to truly describe how rich and engaging this story was. Not only did I come to care about the building in the story but the love and joy in this book was effervescent. This story was so well written it filled my mind with images so Rick it wad like I was living the story myself. I haven't read such a heartfelt book in a long long time.

Christmas magic as they say melts even a vengeful, evil heart. And that happened first with Mordecai then his Grandmother. So happy for Peony she deserves to be happy, after waiting so much years to see what animal she was. I guess saving the best for last is something, but now Mordecai is happy and glad he has a Family, along with his grandmother... Wow it took a weee little feline to stand up to a vengeful Dragon...Loved it..big fan as always Winzie19🤗💞.
I enjoyed this shifter romance. It’s nice to have different shifters in a book but also set in this world not a different one. I sometimes struggle when it’s not an earth based story and when the world building gets a bit much. It’s cute and easy and just a little bit of spice to warm you up. If cookies and milk were a Novel this one would come to mind
What a fun cosy festive shifter romcom. She doesn’t know what animal she will shift into until she kisses her fates mate. He’s a grumpy dragon shifter intent on revenge (including destroying the bookshop she works at 😢). I really enjoyed their shifter forms’ interactions, the Christmas festivities with her whole family - I hope we get more books in this series, especially a book about her sister 🦄
Imagine waiting your entire life to find your other half, just to realize they are your enemy. That just makes for the ultimate betrayal!! Mordecai has his own inner turmoil to overcome, but I love how Peony flipped his world over. I do wish there was an epilogue on how things turned up a year or so later.
When I first started reading this story I didn't think I would like it. It did start out differently than the other Christmas mate stories, but I should have doubted this Zoe! Was a wonderful story with just the right balance of spice and heartwarming. Keep 'em coming Zoe.
I haven't laughed out loud at a story and its characters in a long time, but i did with this one. I really enjoyed it as I waited on my car to be serviced. People looking up as I laughed and chuckled made it more enjoyable! Thank you, Ms. Chant!! Looking forward to more from you!!
I just love this story and the Love that comes from it ,it brings all hope and laughter with it so many people don't realise that you need hope when you are down and love brings not to an empty ❤.Thank you so much for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁a bookworm.
I absolutely adore this book! Mordecai and Peony are precious, and I love their shifted selves. Honestly, I know Zoe Chant books are HEA, but this one felt extra special as the family dynamic was so strong! I would absolutely love a whole series of cozy stories somehow set around Peony's family. Their traditions sound so sweet! I also would love to see another story involving the Hypatia.
"His kiss turned her into a cat" definitely threw me for a loop when I bought this book at first BUT it's not what you think it is by this statement.
This story was very heartwarming and made for a great cuddle up on the couch and read book for the holidays. It touched on some deep issues but overall it was still light and a little spicy ;-)
