A cold-hearted billionaire, a fiery intern, and a forbidden love that defies the odds.
He’s the King of Wall Street—cold, methodical, unemotional. Steven Kingsley is the glorious falcon soaring far above me.
I’m the poor, lowly intern—a small fish in this cutthroat ocean of finance, struggling to keep my head above water.
The falcon and the fish were never meant to fall in love. After all, his heart is made of ice, and life has taught me rich men cannot be trusted.
But my body craves him, my heart ignites for him, and from his heated stares and maddening touches, I wonder if perhaps he feels the same.
Until one day, the unimaginable happens, and I disappear from his life. I’ve had to become someone I never thought I’d be in order to survive.
That is, until he finds me.
The cold king is intent on saving me, and this time, he isn’t letting go. Our wills collide, an inferno blazes, but our devastating secrets get in the way.
Can the fish and the falcon find a way to be together? Or is our love doomed from the start?
Victoria is a lover of all things romance, including movies, books, and television shows. A hopeless romantic since childhood, she is always dreaming up stories and happily ever afters. Caramel lattes are her fuel in the morning and she can usually be found reading anything she can get her hands on. She lives with her family and a beautiful Siberian husky in sunny California.
I'm so touched by everyone's support and love for the release of When Hearts Ignite, the first standalone in my new series, The Orchid, yesterday! Steven's book is one that has been in the works for awhile (at least in my mind) ever since we met him as the youngest Kingsley sibling fresh out of college in my debut, The Sweetest Agony.
He has been a workaholic through the entire LA Hearts series, and you get to see him grow up through those first four novels. I seriously want to go back and reread my books just to watch him become the man he is in When Hearts Ignite.
Ever since the beginning, I knew he must have had his reasons for becoming this workaholic, I don't believe in love, type of man, and we get to understand why in this book!
The cold, unfeeling man is actually a man who feels too much.
And Grace, her badassery, wit, intelligence, and positivity, is the perfect light to Steven's darkness. Their chemistry leaps off the pages when they come together and it has been an honor for me to be the typist and watch their relationship unfold.
Their story is a rollercoaster, and I hope you enjoy the ride with me.
Started promisingly, but quickly deteriorated. The scene where Steven’s financial team came across as incompetent boobs and the new intern outshines them all was straight from a Hollywood movie. In fact, I think movies are where the author did most of her research into the Wall Street aspects of this novel. From this bogus scene the reader is treated to inconsistent characterization, overblown emotions and reactions, conversations that no human beings ever had, and hyperbole. On repeat.
I threw in the towel when the “men can’t be trusted” heroine went from Wall Street to exotic dancing, and the “feel no emotion” hero fell apart because she disappeared on him. Angst is genuine, hysteria is not.
From the ending of "The Brightest Spark", when I had the first glance at Steven and Grace, I knew that their story would be epic.
She is the smart new intern, who is determined to receive a permanent position, and he is the hot, broody and grumpy boss.
She is a very smart and kind person and this is why she sees that he is different, that he needs more people in his life to be at his side. Her wonderful soul wins Steven's friendship. But sometimes being friends is not enough. That friendship soon turns into a sizzling attraction that they both feel, but can't act up on it. Even though their connection is strong, something happens, and she feels betrayed by him. And that's not all... But then her personal life changed, and she disappeared from the company and from his life.
Months later, he still can't accept that she is gone, and I can totally feel his obsession towards her. But then one day, he sees her again...and I can definitely say that from then on, their romance finally started to bloom.
When we got to the part of them finally admitting their love, I was really swooned. I was the one in love with them as a couple. There was quite a bit of drama, but this was even better, because it fit right with the story.
The love scenes...OMG...the love scenes. They were just brilliant. Their love was so passionate and full of steam. Them being together was so smuty and kinky...and let's not forget the dirty talk 🥵🥵🥵. I really loved those scenes.
Even though their love was forbidden at first, I am really happy that both characters had the chance to become friends, get to know each other and fall in love.
P. S.: I can wait for Ryland and Millie's story.

This book was absolutely captivating! What a great start in this series! I loved the dynamic of Steven and Grace's story, the Wallstreet King finally finding what he is missing! I highly recommend this book, once I started I couldn't stop! The ending was perfect!
I'm a huge fan of Victoria's writing style. She's the only one who can get me to read dramatic books because she always brings us good stories with a well-paced plot.
The story of Grace and Steven had me staying up late because I wanted to know how it would all end from the moment I started it. It didn't disappoint. I can say that every page is full of intrigue but also of the growth of each of these characters.
Grace surprised me the most. She's a main character who does everything for the people she loves, and when I say EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING. I liked that she didn't wait too long to talk to Steven, but that she made him suffer a little bit. Although, it wasn't his fault for anything that happened to her, and that made me a little bit upset with her.
Steven is a character we've known since the author's first book. He was always presented to us as a workaholic, a bit cold in character, but at the same time playful with his friends. Reading his story was a breath of fresh air because we got to know why he is like that and believe me, even I would act like that. For me, he was the character who evolved the most, and that was satisfying to read.
The story has some plot twists that left me shocked at times. I had my theories, which obviously weren't right because I'm a bad detective, but that ending was something I didn't see coming and I loved it. It's not a light read, but it's entertaining and keeps you glued to the pages until you have all the answers.
Oh, and it's one of Victoria's steamiest books, just saying 😏🙈
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

When hearts ignite, Steven and Grace take you on a journey that has u in awe with them from the get go. The waring emotions this book bought out in me is so not funny. I loved this one so much! The angst and pain and the pure unadulterated love these two have, it's something else. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!!
What you’ll find: - Boss/Employee - Workplace Romance - Grumpy/Sunshine - Billionaire Romance - Rich Man/Poor Woman - Touch Her and You'll Regret It - Forbidden Romance - Tortured Hero - Secrets, Twists, and Spice - Found Family - Long Lost Family - Us Against the World
When Hearts Ignite is so good and worth reading. This was my first read by Victoria Lum, and I am obsessed.
Steven is a possessive, controlling finance billionaire. He doesn't do relationships and doesn't do emotional connections. He harbors a lot of personal pain and childhood heartbreak. Underneath it all, he is supportive, has a great heart, and loves hard. Grace is a ray of sunshine. She is positive, caring, kind, independent, intelligent, and a go-getter. As a couple, they are a force to be reckoned with, and I loved witnessing their development. They both needed each other and helped each other heal. Their relationship was so passionate, and the chemistry was off the charts.
This story had me locked in from the first page. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their different lifestyles. Everything was handed to Steven on a silver platter, while Grace had a more challenging start. The development of other relationships (friends and family) was also outstanding. There was witty banter, fun/sexy karaoke, and humor woven into this workplace romance. The spice was terrific! Steven made me WEAK! The spicy scenes are perfection. I love Steven!
There were twists and turns that threw me for a loop. I thought I had things figured out, but I was wrong. When Hearts Ignite is so entertaining, and I am so glad I went into it blind. I am happy this is the start of a series, and I am excited about the stories of the other characters (looking at you, Ryland). I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more from Victoria Lum.
Thank you, Victoria Lum, for the e-ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
When Hearts Ignite is the first book in a new series by Victoria Lum. I absolutely loved this book! The angst was *chef's kiss*! Give me all the angst! I wanted Steven and Grace to get together so badly. The chemistry between them was intense. Steven Kingsley oh man that man 🫠🥵 He is giving touch her and d!e vibes. I love how possessive and protective he was towards Grace. Also, the spice was spicing 🥵. The twisted at 75% my jaw was on the floor. I loved it at the end when Grace didn’t want to give up on her and Steven’s relationship despite everything going on. This is hands down my favorite Victoria Lum book! I’m very excited about Ryland and Millie’s book next!
Thank you, Victoria Lum and Grey’s Promotion for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.
I was insta in love with Grace & Steven, their characters meshed so well, almost made me wish I was a character within these pages.
“You’re one interesting woman, Grace. Fearless, even in the den of the wolves.”
She’s sassy, she’s resilient, she’s a force in her element, and not even the hardest obstacle will deter her from the end game.
The way I connected to her is gonna stay with me for a good time. 🥺❤️🩹
Steven is the boss everyone swoons after, but can’t touch, and the slow burn between them sizzled hot!
“the thought of her pleasing me, her knees on the floor, those big eyes staring at me as she calls me “sir” before choking on my cock,” 🥵
I could not put this book down and I’m probably gonna update this, after I have some more time to formulate a more detailed review.
What you do get out of this?
🔥Tropes in When Hearts Ignite🔥 🖤Boss employee ❤Billionaire 🖤Lots of angst ❤Touch her and you’ll regret it 🖤Forbidden ❤Good girl getting into questionable situation 🖤Tortured hero ❤Secrets, twists, and spice
The freaking twist smacked me head on! Just saying. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I found myself relating equally to both of them, for various reasons and I say this with all my heart, I think I found my new favourite.
📈 billionaire romance 📈 forbidden romance 📈 boss/intern 📈 grumpy x sunshine 📈 dual POV 📈 HEA
📍“Checkmate. And you’re mine.”
Romance. Angst. Swooning MCs. Fun. Fast pace. Awesome supporting cast. These things?! Yes, I was already expecting them. What I wasn’t expecting was crying my eyes out at 11pm halfway through this book. Flood gates open because Grace and Steven are everything and they deserve everything. It was absolutely glorious 😭🤌🏼
📍 “For the first time in my life, I finally feel the agonizing want of needing another person more than I need my next breath. And I want more. I want to leap into the flames and put my heart in her hands.”
These two. Their story. What a home run. It was like seeing a movie play out right in front of my mines and yet it was also like being inside the characters themselves, feeling all the emotions and going through all the motions.
What a vivid story about… fated hearts just waiting to ignite. 🥹
And the twists. My goodness, the twists. Prepare to fail to be prepared. 😱
When Hearts Ignite is the first book in Victoria Lum’s new Orchid City Series. If you have read previous books of hers then you have already met our hero Steven. This is Steven and Grace’s story.
🖤Boss Employee 🖤Billionaire 🖤Touch Her and Die 🖤Forbidden 🖤Tortured Hero 🖤Rich boy/poor girl 🖤Good Girl Getting into Questionable Situation 🖤Secrets, Twists, and Spice! 🖤Lots of Swoon and Angst
Steven is a no love type of guy - he never wants to fall in love or get married. And when he meets Grace, she proves to be the distraction he never wanted. He finds himself doing things that he never thought he would do. The start with the pretense of being friends, which is still a huge deal for Steven, and then it turns into so much more.
To be honest, this book is best gone into blind, so I’m not going to say much. This is the best kind of angsty slow burn book. The way both of these characters torture themselves made my anxiety so high (again in the best way).
Fantastic way to start the series and can’t wait for Ryland’s book next!
I am absolutely floored by how amazing this book is!! Steven and Grace… ahhhhh I don’t want to reveal too much! The book is such a good slow burn, the angst and anticipation will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time, the plot twists are mind blowing! The Orchid series is going to be super special and amazing, I have a feeling! These Anderson siblings… mmh mmh mmh I tell you what!! This is my new favorite billionaire, big city romance and I’m here for it you guys!!! Victoria Lum outdid herself with this one!
When Hearts Ignite by Victoria Lum, this is the first book in the new The Orchid Series, Steven Kingsley is a powerful and very intelligent man, who considers himself broken, since he does not feel love, for him it's not in his plans to fall in love and much less get married, but everything will change when the new intern makes her way inside his hard heart. Grace Peyton is Pietra Capital's new intern, she is very intelligent, sweet and kind, she is determined to work hard to receive a permanent position. She recognizes in Steven a melancholy that makes her approach him and they end up being friends, but this soon transforms and the attraction is undeniable but they cannot act on it, but then she disappears from the company and from Steven's life. After a few months, Steven is still trying to understand what happened and when a chance encounter puts them back in each other's path, many things have changed and although the attraction is still there, there are many questions that need answers to be able to afford a future together I loved this story! A perfect mix of angst, humor, unexpected twists, passion and love with characters with whom you will fall in love and you will be trapped between their lines and you will not want to stop reading until these two get their happy ending. This story is the perfect start to a Series that I will be eagerly awaiting for more. Highly recommended! *Thanks to Victoria Lum and Grey's Promotions for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
¡Altamente Recomendada! *Gracias a Victoria Lum y a Grey's Promotions por mi ARC. Dejo voluntariamente mi reseña honesta*
I am notorious for not reading a book series in order. Is there a support group for that? The Orchid Series by Victoria Lum is one that I have been able to pick and choose what I want to read. Fortunately, the billionaire romance series are standalones, ranging from age gap, professor/student, gothic dark academia, and all with incredible MMCs. It is easy to rationalize that I waited until last to read Book 1. When Hearts Ignite is the most angsty of them all, it throws a dash of taboo—yes, it does—the alpha billionaire that’s not afraid to cry, the FMC that speaks for herself, and when you think all is good, Victoria Lum hits you hard. And then she does it again.
But I love messy, angst, and emotional rollercoasters. When Hearts Ignite has all of that and several detailed, steamy scenes. The Orchid Series is not done yet. Book 5 will be released soon and will have some of my favorite tropes: Amnesia and Brother’s best friend. I’m done for.
Victoria spoils us with the best fictional men. How can real life men compare to this?
Steven and Grace's connection was obvious from the beginning. Their chemistry was palpable. I love the mystery element of the story. I wasn't just reading a love story. I was also trying to figure out the big secret. If you know you know.
Victoria's writing blew me away in this book. There were so many lines I highlighted. Here are some of my favorites:
"I’m starving for her in my love-sick soul, desperate for anything she could give me. Grace. My star in the skies. The moon illuminating the night or the sun shining during the day. The calm in my rough waters."
"I need to see her. I need answers. And I want those motherfucking lips on mine again."
"I’ll knock down those tattered walls and wrap my arms around her, building us a fortress, so she’ll always feel safe. She’ll know she can tell me anything and that won’t ever change my feelings for her. We’re a team and we can solve this."
"Grace: You’re sounding like a vampire from one of the romances I read. Steven: I’m beginning to understand the drivel you read. I just want to keep you tethered to me so I can kiss you and smell you and fuck you at my whim. You make me feel so many things. It’s like I’m seeing the world for the first time with you."
Clearly from these you can tell that Steven is a man obsessed!
Can I just say WOW!!! I am totally in love with this book, for the following reasons: - The Plot is original - The character development is on point - The pain and frustration depiction is so raw! - Their mental and soul connection was so pure - Their spiritual print on each other is so beautiful - the love declarations though get somewhat cheesy but what can I say I LOVE it! - Best of all, they didn’t succumb to their carnal instincts until way after they connected and feelings were involved. Such a breath of fresh air different than most of the romance authors nowadays who rely heavily on hookups/one night stands and early on s*x to capture readers’ attention. Bravo Victoria Lum 👏🏻 I am officially a fan 🩷
When Hearts Ignite by Victoria Lum is the first book of The Orchid and was also my very first book of her.
And be sure that I definitely wasn't my last one! Ooooh no! It's getting started now! When one single book can make me feel like this?! I'm absolutely a new fan!! ❤️❤️
Steven Kingsley is the King of Wall Street. Tallkl, dark, handsome and there's a sadness... only Grace Peyton could see. She's the new intern, but for Steven so much more. Both lives change forever when they've to work side by side...
At first I was a swooning woman who couldn't stop herself from falling even more in love with the main characters and the beginning of their story with every passing sentence, every scene... 🥰😍❤️ But I also turned into a crying mess... just because... things happened and... oh my heart! WOW! ABSOLUTELY WOW!
I DEVOURED THIS BOOK AND COULDN'T GET ENOUGH! There's this special kind of connection between Steven and Grace, which was palpable through my kindle! I felt with them along their journey and OH BOY! WHAT A ROLLER COASTER RIDE! 👏🎢 Ups and downs and left and right... and don't forget the looping! I'm sure that I won't do this book an justice with my review, but I'll try my best to express my feelings. 😉 There's so much going on without being too much! I enjoyed this book! I wanted to finish it real quick, but at the same time I stopped myself to postpone the end of this wonderful book! 🤗 Grace is a real inspiration as a young, strong and independent woman. She knows what she wants and also how to get it. And Steven? Steven Kingsley? My new favourite book boyfriend of all times!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Sooo much tragic! Poor Steven! OMG he stole my heart right from the beginning and I constantly had goosebumps everywhere! Just because of HIM! 🤭😍 He's PERFECTION! Perfect for Grace and perfect himself, although he doesn't see it like that. He's a successful business guy, but there's sooooo much more to him! Beautiful personality! Although he's broody and kinda dark... he...also has a heart of gold! I can't hide this from you guys! ❤️
I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOOOOVED THIS STORY! EVERYTHING! Because their chemistry is something else! Something SO SPECIAL AND ONE OF A KIND. 💕✨️ I also liked all the characters, who are from her other books or upcoming books! I'm totally intrigued and will definitely read the other stories too!
So if you like a protective guy, who's also a sexy dirty talker and a strong woman, who knows how to support him - GET THIS BOOK! There's soooo much chemistry, passion, attraction, love, SPICE, friendship, worshipping, trust, happiness, sadness and much more! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I'M A FAN OF VICTORIA LUM NOW! *goes back to her homepage to check out the other books*
Thanks a lot to Grey's Promos and Victoria Lum for this ARC. This is my honest review in my own words.
Holy. Freaking. Crap. I’ve never read anything by Victoria Lum before, but now that I’ve read the pure perfection that is “When Hearts Ignite,” I’m feeling the urge to go back and read her entire backlist!
I really don’t know what I was expecting when I started reading Steven and Grace’s story. I love a good office romance, which is what originally caught my attention, but this book is so much more than that!
Let’s talk about these characters. Billionaire Steven Kingsley, our amazing MMC, was a beautifully tortured hero, and his backstory truly broke my heart. At the beginning of the book, Steven sees himself as cold and unfeeling, and is determined to never fall in love. However, all of that changes when Grace Peyton, our lovable FMC, enters his life.
I truly believe that Steven fell for Grace the moment he first saw her and spoke to her. I loved how obsessed he was with her, how he was determined to protect her in whatever ways he could, and how he was willing to do anything to prove to her that he was really serious about her.
As for Grace, I really just wanted to give her a hug. She literally goes through hell and back in this book, and she makes a lot of sacrifices to protect the people she loves. What happened to her meant that she definitely had to put aside her pride at times. For that, I think she was so freaking strong, and I really admired and respected her for it.
I also loved the way she was determined to make Steven’s life a little bit brighter, even before anything romantic happened between them. Their chemistry was absolutely fiery from the very beginning, and the way their relationship developed over the course of this book was so well-done. I highly recommend this book!
I just knew, like 2 books ago…when Steven was still an awkward teen, that he was going to steal the show. And man oh man, did Victoria NOT disappoint. Steven Kingsley is the King of Wall Street. He’s brilliant, charismatic, and fierce. He’s a force to be reckoned with, and he always has the very best on his team at Pietra Capital. And as one of his newest interns, Grace Peyton doesn’t back down, doesn’t shy away, & doesn’t mind doing a little extra work to get the job done. Steven & Grace form an unlikely bond of friendship during her internship. They both find a kindred spirit & a bit of a tortured soul in each other. Both have sworn off relationships for similar reasons, but there’s an attraction that is nearly impossible to ignore. They thrive in pushing each other out of their comfort zones & pushing each other to become a better person. Nearing the end of her internship, Grace is handed blow after blow & finds herself in a situation where she must make a drastic change in order to take care of her family. Her disappearance from Steven’s life has left him dumbfounded & lost. Lost not only in business as she was such a key component of his team, but also lost in his personal life. He had found himself relying heavily on her friendship to get him through the day to day. And when that routine is no longer available to you, what do you do? Where do you go? How do you move on? One chance encounter at The Orchid brought a glimpse of Grace back into his life. She’s obviously a shell of the woman she used to be, but she’s captivated him all the same. What happened all those months ago to make her disappear from his life? What does fate have in store for him now that he’s found her again?
I’m not going to spoil anymore, but just know that the swoon factor that Steven oozes is top notch. The slow burn is so worth the wait, hard to believe, I know. And the angst is next level. Grace’s resilience is so admirable & while I found myself gritting my teeth at the stubbornness at times, I knew it was what she had to do to guard her heart & survive. In true Victoria fashion, the plot twists here were anxiety inducing. But this ending has me so excited for the next installment with Ryland! And don’t forget that bonus epilogue!!! TRUST ME!!
When Hearts Ignite is the first book in the Orchid series by Victoria Lum. This continues with the Orchid club introduced in her previous series.
Steven Kingsly is a billionaire, Wall Street genius who has no interest in love. However, he was not prepared for the smart intern, Grace, who showed up hours early every day to work where they slowly built a friendship. She needs to land one of the few jobs at his company to help take care of her mother’s debts and her sister’s ballet school. Things do not turn out the way she needed, and she is forced to do a different type of job and disappears from Steven’s life. When Steven runs into her at the Orchid, he can not let her go and pursues her hard.
Let me tell you, I loved Steven Kinglsey! I always love a hero who doesn’t want or believe in love, yet they always fall hard. Steven was so swoon-worthy and treated Grace like a queen. He recognized her intelligence and beauty from the inside out. Grace did not want to be like her mother, who was in love with being in love and always had her heart broken, but once she lets down her walls, these two have a beautiful connection. There is a plot twist that I saw coming, even though the reveal is supposed to be a shock, but I didn’t mind it. The way the characters came together after this reveal was beautiful, and I appreciated the communication.
These two were so hot together, and I loved Steven’s dirty mouth. The spice was amazing due to their emotional connection and slow burn. I also loved that they started out as friends and how Steven never tried anything with her when she was his intern.
This is only my second Victoria Lum book, but I absolutely love her writing style. She writes beautifully and sucks you into the story. I enjoy a character driven story, and she writes the perfect book boyfriends. I am very excited to read Ryland’s book next, especially since it is a teacher/student romance.
Thank you to Literally Yours PR and the author for providing the ARC.
Victoria Lum just keeps getting better with every book. Steven is a man that guards himself from love and doesn’t think he is capable of it. He loves his sisters and that is enough for him. The second he meets Grace something starts to stir in him. They become fast friends until suddenly she disappears. They meet again and this tome he isn’t letting her go. He will solve all of her problems if it means he gets a shot at love with her.
One of my favorite character types is someone who thinks they aren’t capable of love. It’s so much fun to see the other person just wear them down and show them a different side of life. Grace was immediately able to see that Steven was missing something and she tried her best to get him to see it. She wouldn’t let him get away with not being her friend.
I love the little friendship they developed and how they ate breakfast together every morning. He saw just how good at her job she was and he wanted to help her succeed. He was holding back because he was her boss but he was falling in love.
Grace has been hurt in her past and has just had general bad experiences with men. She isn’t sure if Steven is different or if she wants to try. When something bad happens, she is forced to run away and tells him not to look for her.
Some time later he does find her, and will stop at nothing to actually be with her this time. Grace is still so hesitant because she doesn’t want a man to solve all her problems. She has a hard time asking for help, even from the people she loves. Steven just wants to show her that he loves her and will stand by her side forever.
The theme of the book really is that they are a team. They do everything at work and in life together. They won’t let anyone stand in their way. I loved this book so much and they are true soulmates.
I’m very excited for the next book because it’s professorxstudent.
This is my first Victoria Lum book and it will not be my last. This is the beginning of a new series and I am hooked. Steven is the ultimate broody billionaire MMC. He is understandably standoffish when it comes to romance but this is put to the test when he is blown away by a new intern at his company. Grace is an amazing character and is full of the right kind of motivation when it comes to her family and is willing to work hard to help with her single mother and younger sister. This brings her to Steven's company with the hope of securing a full time position to bring her family out of their tumultuous living situation.
The set up is perfect for a billionaire romance but this is not your typical Cinderella story. This one is full of angst and is highly emotional. There is so much backstory with the families of each of our main characters and this lends to some MAJOR drama throughout this story. I am a strictly spoiler free reviewer so I refuse to say to much about the plot, but I have never read a story that had my jaw dropping at a third act breakup more than this one.
I 100% recommend this to anyone who loves a billionaire romance or likes their stories full of emotion and with high angst.
This book was so long and took a while to get to the point. That's the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars. There was a lot that could have been cut out. Repetitive scenarios as well as dialog that didn't need to be done. Easily could have been 50 to 100 pages less. But, regardless of those issues, I did like the story. Grace is a fascinating FMC. She's not meek in the slightest. She's strong, smart, and still has kindness and softness to her. I also like Steven and the other side characters. Normally, I hate the underlying plots of books like this, but actually, it fits the book and the storyline. I can't wait to have more from this author and these couples.
This was my first book of Victoria's and I'm in love! This was a emotional and heavy read, but I wouldn't want it any other way.
Steven is the King of Wall Street. He's a lonely soul that's accepted that he doesn't have his parents love at a young age, but still strives to be worthy of them. In order to protect his heart he's closed off himself to emotions and drowns himself with work.
Grace is a strong, stubborn, smart and independent(a little too independent) young women that just landed an internship at one of the top investment firm on Wall Street. Coming from a more than humble background Grace is in dire need of the job offer after her internship, but unfortunately due to internal affairs in the company she's not offered one. Which sets off a series of events that causes her to leave Steven's life.
Grace sees past Steven's closed off facade and recognizes the broken part of him. She wants nothing more than to save Steven from himself. But in order to save her family she lets him go. 9 months later they cross paths once again and this time Steven is determined not to let go.
This book had to at the edge of my seat! The plot twists in this book nearly gave me a heart attack, but the HEA at the end was completely worth it!
I truly devoured this book, and couldn’t stop until I finished it. I love when the MMC declares he’ll never fall in love, or that it’s just sex with no feelings involved because it is always such a beautiful moment when they are proven completely wrong, and Steven was no exception to this!
This is an incredible age gap, boss/employee, second chance billionaire romance that had me laughing, crying, and throwing my kindle across the room. I couldn’t believe how easily I was swept up into this story, until I realized that I finished it in one sitting! At that point, I was sad to say goodbye but overwhelmed by their incredible journey.
There is so much angst and tension between Steven and Grace! Once Steven makes up his mind about being with Grace he is completely determined to never let her go, and he shows this in some absolutely feral, swoon worthy ways! Grace is incredibly kind, she is so considerate and wants to truly make Steven happy, however she can. She is fiercely independent, and doesn’t want to rely on anyone, including Steve so she does what she has to do to survive.
They bond very quickly over their insecurities and baggage, both most definitely have some trust issues, but they work through them together and it is an incredible, crazy journey as they do! Their chemistry is top notch, and they are just so perfect for one another.
This book offers so much plot, spice, suspense, and some twists that you don’t see coming. I highly recommend it!
Thank you so so much for the ARC, Victoria! I feel so grateful to have been able to see their story firsthand and be able to continue to think of them even after. This is a book I will definitely recommend over and over. I can’t wait to see Ryland’s story in the next installment ofThe Orchard City Series!
This was my first read by Victoria Lum and it did not disappoint! I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Reader Copy and was so glad I got to dive right in before its release! This is the first book in the Orchid Series and I’m looking already forward to reading the next one!
Grace, the FMC, was the perfect blend of intelligent, independent, and funny. A girl who isn’t afraid to speak up. I enjoyed getting to know her and her banter with Steven was everything! The karaoke scene had me rolling.
Steven is your billionaire, King of Wall Street type, who doesn’t do relationships and lacks emotional connection with those around him, earning him a reputation of being an a$$. Until Grace that is! I enjoyed watching him grow throughout the course of the book.
One of my favorite tropes is workplace romance so I thoroughly enjoyed this book! With twists and turns you won’t see coming, it was a slow burn with the perfect amount of spice.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I feel it’s best to go in blind. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
Tropes: 💜Billionaire 💜Workplace 💜Grumpy/Sunshine 💜Twists and Turns 💜Boss/Employee 💜Angst
This book is a first in a series and takes you on a journey with Steven the billionaire and Grace who is less fortunate in life. Grace lives in the Bronx with her mother and sister. She needs to take care of them and chooses for an internship at Transamerica, Stevens company. Steven is the icy, grumpy billionaire in this story but has a thing for his smart intern Grace. The character development was amazing! The book is really fast paced and if you like a slow burn romance, grumpyxsunshine, forbidden romance, billionaire romance this is the book for you.
In the beginning i thought it was a bit predictable but i ended up getting suprised, but i don´t going to spoil it for you guys haha. I also thought the book was very detailed. I live in Europe but in this book i really had the feeling that i was walking on the streets of New York! It was a real rollercoaster and i´m definitely looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
Thankyou so much Victoria to be a part of your ARC team and this opportunity!
This book was gifted in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited when I heard we were going to get Steven’s story. I’ve loved his character from the moment we met him in The Harshest Hope. I was immediately drawn to him because of his disbelief in love despite his two sisters who have both found their HEA. He’s a controlling and possessive Wall Street billionaire. Due to a lot of personal pain and childhood trauma he has decided he doesn’t have time for a relationship. Work is all he needs until his world gets flipped upside down when he meets the new intern Grace.
Grace is the complete opposite. She’s a bright and positive person. She cares about others and always puts her family first. When she meets her new boss she can tell he’s holding in a lot of darkness. She’s determined to be that light in himself and show him that he’s worthy of love.
I was hooked from page 1. Steven had me on my knees. When you get this man in the bedroom he does not disappoint. The constant twist and turns and the insane plot twists made this book so incredible! By far one of my favorites from Victoria.
